Been here for almost a year. My girl was very shy and scared of physical contact with others. Now she wrestles with other kids and sees it as a fun game. I appreciate the patience and care Rockstar gives. The coach offers challenges but also manages to not to overwhelm her. I was looking for a place that could empower my kid and stimulate her interest in this sport. So far I am pretty happy with the result!

We’ve been training at Rockstar Jiu-Jitsu for a while now, and the new leadership has truly elevated the gym. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the coaches are approachable and friendly, creating a supportive environment for all levels. Before the leadership change, I wasn’t fully comfortable due to some issues with Coach Josh’s approach, but I’m thrilled with the positive changes. The new leadership is passionate, takes time to explain techniques, and is always available for questions. They even send out videos to help kids practice at home. The culture is now motivating and energizing, and I feel a genuine sense of community here. If you’re looking for a great place to train, I highly recommend Rockstar Jiu-Jitsu!

Updated review on 10/1/2024: we are so glad it has new management and new coaches now. My daughter said coach James’ class was a lot more fun and engaging. Ms. Shiva is very kind and I felt respected as a parent. ————————————————————-Previous review - 2 stars on 9/7/2024. we have no complain for the teaching and classes but we are not happy with how this business taking care of its customers. the first negative experience I had was when my daughter was curious how many months of contract she still has. The minimum contract is 6 months and if your kid were to be leveled up, another 6 months will start again. My daughter was locked in a 9 months contract because of leveling up. We told her she needs to finish her contract. When me and my daughter went into the office to get the answer because my texts were unanswered. Coach Laura gave me the lecture about not letting my daughter decide if she should stay in Jiu Jitsu or not. I was really shocked because all I wanted to know was when our contract will be up. Honestly, if my daughter is lacking motivation, it is the coach’s job to work on it for the remaining of the months she still has in Jiu jitsu and up to my daughter if she still wants to continue. She is only 6 and if she prefers to do something else or try something else, it is perfectly ok. Then the coaches were sick on a Saturday, when we returned to class on Monday, we found a note on the door saying the network is down so no classes again. The school was closed for 4 business days total. I emailed the business asking for make up lessons, the president of the school (Shiva) reached out to me and kindly offered a month free for the inconvenience. However, coach Laura won’t comment if she agrees with this extension but waited until our original contract end day to hold my daughter in the lobby and not let her join the class. It is extremely embarrassing for my daughter. coach Laura then gave us just a week instead of what Shiva (the president) has given one month free to us. I found it extremely confusing and unprofessional of how they treat their customers and young students.

Coach Josh and Laura have done a great job with helping them overcome there fears of physical conflict and has helped teach them valuable lessons about life and discipline. 3 out of 4 members of our family go to Rockstar for over 3 years now. 2 of them are 7 years old or younger. Watching my kids to transform from shy and timid into confident and secure is fully credited to Couches Josh and Laura. Not only they teach self defense/ jiu jitsu but also discipline, respect, controlling their emotions, and how to balance kindness and confidence. While self defense is important for all ages, you only get the full package here because of the passion and dedication those couches have. I can’t recommend RockStar enough.

I write that in order to give some context around my experience with the martial art prior to being introduced to Coaches Josh and Laura and Rockstar. I've seen a ton of great gyms and phenomenal instructors, and I have to say that the coaches at Rockstar belong among the elite in terms of technical knowledge, character, skill and ability to teach. I trained for about 4.5 years in Colorado before I moved to Texas, so I had a pretty high standard because I trained at the same gym with the same crew for a while. My transition to this gym exceeded my expectations in many ways! This gym is phenomenal, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and the kids class is coached by outstanding people who have so much patience. If you are on the fence with trying a class for yourself or you child, just do it, you will love it!

My son and I started Jiu jitsu here about 4 months ago. I tried 2 other locations before deciding to go with Rockstar and I have to say this was by far the most informative and most welcoming location I been to. Both adult and kids coaches are amazing. Coach Josh, Laura, and Michael are all very helpful. Coach Josh is kick a**. I got brave enough to put my son and I in a tournament to get a taste of the sport and they were very supportive and came out to coach and support us. Another thing I love about this location is the higher belts are not there to just beat you down. They will let you work your new moves and assist you as you go. I can highly recommend this location to anyone. They made it easy to love Jiu jitsu.

I was a first timer trying out jujitsu when I came to Rockstar Prosper. Coach Josh, Coach Zuber, Coach Laura, Coach Fern, and Coach Gabe really took time out to give individual attention to make me feel comfortable. My kiddos (ages 4,5 and 7) have been with Rockstar for over a year and I am very happy with our experience. Each of my kids has a completely different personality, with different strengths and fears. The coaches know every single student by name and consistently offer guidance and encouragement that is specific for that student. I can tell that the coaches are a team and work together to make rockstar a family. I love how responsive the coaches are to any question/issue/concern that comes up. I recently moved to Texas and was staying at a friends house and decided to train at the local Jiu jitsu spots nearby while looking for an apartment and I was extremely impressed. Laura was very welcoming and friendly and made me feel at home. The instruction was amazing and I was there for only one class. The professor was very interactive with the students and I could tell that the technique was top notch. I ended up moving into an apartment that was located in the colony so I couldn’t make this school my home but I would definitely recommend this school to anyone in the area.

We've been at Rock Star since shortly after they opened at their storefront. I was looking for a program for just a few weeks in the summer to keep my son occupied and teach him some self control and focus. After the first trial class with Coach Josh, my son was HOOKED. Coach Josh connects with the kids in an amazing way, and doesn't just teach jiu jitsu techniques. His life lessons and stories help the kids feel like they're not alone in their struggles and gives them a way to cope. My son is much more focused, calm, and confident. We love RockStar!!! I'm editing this one year later to add that I started training jiu jitsu at RockStar and can speak to how amazing Coach Josh is as a coach to adults! I'm not in the best of shape, or very confident. But each class, Coach Josh, Coach Laura, and Coach Kat make me feel amazing about myself and what I accomplished! They have cultivated such a great atmosphere with their classes and the adults I train with are like family. Tuesday and Thursday nights are quickly becoming my favorite nights of the week. Coach Josh has ALWAYS kept a clean gym. With the current pandemic, those efforts have intensified. The coaches sanitize the mats after classes, and take temperatures before students step on the mats. Jiu jistu is a close contact activity, so students have the option to train virtually, in person with a training dummy, or in person with a partner. RockStar is the only place outside of home that I trust enough for my son to go to currently. If you want to know more about RockStar, stop in! My son and I are there 5 days a week and I am always happy to rave about how amazing this place is!!

I previously went to the main Rockstar in Frisco until all of the “good” coaches left. The only coaches left we’re great, but not as clear and as descriptive as Coach Josh. After I joined this gym I was thankful because Coach Josh describes the techniques with detail and teaches techniques that are useful and could help you in the real world. I have never had a better Jiu Jitsu coach. They encourage you, respect you, and teach you REAL Jiu Jitsu. I recommend this gym for someone who somewhat knows Jiu Jitsu, is starting Jiu Jitsu or someone who has almost mastered Jiu Jitsu. Come join this FAMILY and learn Jiu Jitsu at Rockstar Prosper.

My four year old has been attending Rockstar for almost a year. Coach Josh has an endless amount of patience. My son couldn't sit still or pay attention to save his life before starting classes and it was a huge struggle in the beginning but Coach never lost his patience or gave up on him. We have now seen incredible improvement in all aspects of his behavior since attending classes. He never wants to disappoint Coach Josh and repeats the lessons he teaches them about listening to his parents and teachers. My son loves "ninja turtle class" and has gotten stronger and more disciplined in our time here. We’re moving to Celina and will drive the extra twenty minutes to this gym location instead of the one that will be closer to us because we respect and trust the staff here so much.

I went here to try out their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. I have never taken Jiu Jitsu before, but I truly enjoyed it! The coaches were very friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful. They took the time to demonstrate and explain each movement. I appreciated that every demonstration and correction was always related to real life situations. I believe this makes the class practical and translatable to the real world - so while it was fun, it is an experience that could be beneficial and could save your life if needed. The class size was fairly small so they were able to pay attention to everyone in the class and you are not just another face in the crowd. The memebers there were also friendly, helpful and encouraging. I felt comfortable the entire time. I will be back and would definitely recommend to others.

The Way I Cici It

Having never been exposed to any type of Martial Arts, my 5-year-old immediately love Coach Josh and Coach Laura. They have exemplified discipline and respect to my daughter and have the patience to help her become a focused kid, wanting to learn more. She is so encouraged and well-treated at this location that she asks to go 5/5 times a week. The price is on point and well worth every single cent. Even if a dojo opened up next door, we would still go to Coach Josh.

I have to say I was hesitant to start my boys at Rockstar due to time commitment, but I am so glad they are there. Coach Josh, Coach Laura and the other coaches have done a phenomenal job of not only teaching these skills, but more importantly teaching necessary life skills. They confirm the life lessons that we try to teach our kids. And sometimes hearing these things from someone who is not a parent really solidifies these things in their life. I have seen my sons’ patience, motivation and respect increase significantly in the last couple of months after being in these classes. The atmosphere here is so friendly and welcoming. My son and I just recently started attending the BJJ class and we are so impressed with the instruction, the pace, and the class. I haven’t observed ego problems like other gyms. It’s not about competing to be better than others. It’s about learning and helping others learn. It’s challenging but fun. Highly recommend.

What a Great Place. My son started at RockStar Martial Arts and Fitness - Prosper as an adult. He has autism. Since starting with Coach Josh and team, my son has worked diligently to increase his muscle tone and body weight. He's more discipline in achieving his goals. He's not afraid to face the unexpected but appears to be willing to step out of his comfort zone to see what life has to offer him. He adores Coach Josh and believes that he has a chance to live his life as normal as anyone else. A great role model in Coach Josh to give a young man that only wanted a chance to be accepted. 5 stars just isn't enough! My 3 year old daughter has been attending for a month now and I could not be more pleased. My daughter is what some people politely call "spirited" but the lessons in discipline she receives at Rockstar is spot on and are really making a difference! It's a family run program and you feel that from day one. Coach Josh and Coach Laura prioritize your needs and your child's needs...and incorporate solutions into their class. Additionally, my daughter has issues with her elbows and they take such sweet care to ensure that they modify her activities in a way that's safe for her when necessary. We absolutely LOVE Rockstar Aubrey/Prosper!!!!!!

Coach Josh is the complete package. He not only is extremely patient with the young kids but he also gives them life lessons which is so unqiue and welcomed. His jiu jitsu is off the charts as well. Our entire family, ages 5 - 47, LOVES RockStar Martial Arts - Prosper. The coaches are amazing! Their knowledge is vast, and their patience with beginners is incredible. We felt welcome from day one even though we'd had zero training before hand. The environment is one of learning and safety; with an emphasis on empowering and encouraging women to learn and grow! Be ready to learn and to sweat! However, make sure you get a full explanation of everything you’re given to sign and that contracts are explained in length without any interruptions. In a change to my monthly payment amount to pay for uniforms it renewed my contract without my knowledge and after months of asking for help to get out of it, they’re refusing to let us out of the contact even though I thought I was only agreeing to an additional monthly fee being taken out for 4 months to pay for uniforms. Be aware.

My experience was great at first, they do teach kids who attend self defense & confidence. Initially in January 2023 we started at the first stage, then I didn’t see my child being challenged so I asked if we could move her to stage 2 since she had been there a while (4 months). We had to pay an additional fee for the uniforms, which I understood. I paid the fee thinking that was it. When I signed the first contract, they didn’t offer for me to read it, they only put a signing pad out and Laura read bits and pieces of the contract then said she would email me a copy. Once we moved to stage 2 I received several emails regarding needing signatures for another contract since my child moved up a stage which I didn’t have a chance to sign up until they reminded me in person and had me sign in May 2023. The contract stated that the term would expire in May 2024 & the fees for the stage 2 uniforms, fast forward to now I was not planing to renew given life changes and we haven’t had time to go as usual. I reached out to Laura to ask if this would be my last payment since the contract stated it expired May 2024, she abruptly pointed out that the installments were for 6 more months even though the contract expires in May 2024. We were attending since mid January 2023. It had already been over a year that we have been under this contract, it was a huge surprise knowing we still have to deliver and pay 6 more months even though the contract expired. When I let them know our situation and how the contract was contradicting they simply did not care and only wanted their money. Their demeanor changed completely, they got unprofessional. They threatened to charge me late fees since the contract expired in May 2024, and they said they didn’t care about the expiration date only that the 6 more months were paid even if my child didn’t attend. They only did what best suits them by stating the expiration date was irrelevant, but the 6 monthly installments that were left since they contradicted the contract and put the expiration date for one year, yet they wanted 18 installments total. My husband went to pay in person, to get a receipt- at this point I just wanted to get out of this contract in case they tried to tarnish my credit. The coach was very unprofessional saying he did not trust our payment method and had to count it himself in the back. Once he was done and my partner was leaving the coach tried to have a screaming match with my partner (while the waiting area was full of parents) during this time his wife Laura said he did that due to him feeling “disrespected” over the fact that my husband did not shake his hand during an introduction- which is not a huge deal especially given our experience and texts that were being sent. My partner paid no attention and just left since no reaction is best. I’m glad we are finally done paying this place anymore money, you can truly tell where their heart is & they lack professionalism. They did not care about anything, and accused me of trying to manipulate them. They tried to offer for the expiration date of the contract to extend 6 more months- which I turned down since at that point they already threw the insult of calling me a manipulator. I just needed clarification on why I was even locked in for that much longer & why the contract was not written correctly. I did let them know I would be leaving a review and they got upset by saying I’m messing up their livelihood. I’m simply sharing my experience, which like I mentioned was great at first, but changed with time. Hoping they don’t do the same to others.

I signed my daughter up for the trail period at this location with the hopes of her being able to train as the stay at home order was lifted. Within the next week we saw that COVID-19 cases were significantly spiking so my family and I decided not to send her back since there was considered to be significant contact with this sport. I did not recall them practicing many CDC regulated distancing or sanitizing within their facility. Her father and I were told that we can cancel our membership at anytime during our initial meeting with the staff. I have requested to pull her from the facility and to terminate her membership during the pandemic and I am receiving unprofessional threatening text messages from their staff at almost 9:00 pm. They are threatening that I need to pay 5 months worth of membership fees in order to terminate. We live in Fort Worth and we’re visiting this location during the summer. It is not convenient to travel to any of there locations to maintain a 5 month membership. I wish I would have been given a phone call to discuss the matter rather than text. I am disgusted by how they have handled the entirety of this situation during such a difficult time.
