This is an excellent facility. In 2024, our daughters (8 and 6 at the time) wanted to try something new and we stumbled upon Gael Force Jiu Jitsu. Coach Alex, Coach Adam, and many others welcomed our family and guided our daughters during classes. Our 8-year old actually competed in a few meets and had wonderful experiences. This is one of the best facilities in the area. Coaches are focused on developing people in addition to developing athletes if that makes sense. Athletes develop confidence, a strong work ethic, the ability to handle adversity, and they have a lot of fun doing it. Best wishes and congratulations on your success!

Gael Force is a great school. I came in as a visiting brown belt and Alex not only was welcoming but taught me some tricks I’ve never seen. Students are all welcoming and willing to help. No egos, people are mindful of training hard but not trying to hurt each other. We all have jobs off of the mats. Anyone in the area considering trying out this school is recommend it.

After never training a martial art in my adult life I decided to finally start, well I'm glad Gael Force is my foundation. Alex has built a culture and gym that makes you feel right at home. The hardest step is making it into the gym, from there everyday you're building yourself and the people around you. From all levels class, to intermediate, to competition, you can train at whatever level you desire. After your first week you'll realize this is a piece of humble pie you've never had before. Jiujitsu has become my favorite way to condition myself mentally and physically. I can thank Gael Force for this experience.

Alex is an exceptional instructor. When our daughter first expressed interest in martial arts a few years ago, we wanted her to not only learn practical self-defense but also develop the confidence to stand up to bullies with assertiveness. Alex delivered on both fronts. Recently, we brought our entire Girl Scout troop for a lesson, and Alex once again exceeded our expectations. The session focused on standing up for themselves, showing respect, and taking proactive steps to prevent bullying. By the time the lesson was over, many of the Girl Scouts were already asking their parents when they could do it again.

Was back in town for a week for a wedding. Found Gael Force. Talked to Alex and was able to drop in all week. Every class was well structured with clear instruction, and had a very thought out curriculum for advanced and all levels classes. The environment was amazing, everyone was very friendly to an “out of towner” and will def recommend for anyone looking to start BJJ or someone with experience looking for a new place to train. I will for sure be going back whenever I’m in town! Thanks Alex!

The culture that Alex has forged in his gym is like no other. All of the instructors are absolutely wonderful and bring their own spin and wisdom to each class. The members are so welcoming and helpful. I had a lot of anxiety starting something new a little later in life (also being a woman) however Gael Force has really become one of my happy places. So very grateful for this new community both inside and outside the gym!

I've known Alex since he was a brown belt teaching Friday noon classes for Jamie Cruz. Now he's teaching my son who absolutely loves it and looks forward to jiu jitsu every week. It's not surprising to see a black belt instructor be passionate about jiu jitsu, but what sets him apart is his incredible patience with kids. He honestly has more patience for a class of 25 kids on a hot Friday evening than the parents in the audience have for their own children. Most times I stay after and take a class and roll with his students, all of them super nice and down to earth. Can't speak highly enough about Alex, his students, and his facility. Give it a try if you or your kids have any interest in learning jiu jitsu in a safe but competitive environment. Keep up the good work Alex. Oss

Gael Force is amazing! Alex is such a knowledgeable and articulate instructor, and he cultivates an atmosphere of collaboration and respect with his students. As one of several women that regularly attend the advanced and competition classes, I have never felt disrespected or talked down to. Alex puts no pressure on anyone to compete or attend more classes than they feel comfortable doing during the week. The women’s class on Sundays is also such a great environment for learning self-defense with 12+ other women regularly attending, and Allie is a kind and competent instructor.

Gael Force is great. My son started 2 years ago when he was 6 and loves coming here. Alex is a fantastic instructor who not only teaches technique but also important values such as discipline and respect. BJJ techniques apply to the other sports my son plays - obviously wrestling, but also lacrosse and football. I would highly recommend Gael Force and BJJ for kids! I recently took a class myself and was a bit nervous. Everyone in the class was welcoming and patient. Gael Force is more than just a BJJ school, it is a community.

I have to say Alex Kennedy is one of the finest instructors I have ever trained with. As a retired PE teacher and strength coach, and having trained and instructed in the Martial Arts for over 46 years, I know what I'm looking at when I say this. He has built a Dojo community that is second to none. Every single team member is welcoming, down to earth and devoid of ego. This type of environment takes a tremendous effort to instill and maintain. Alex has done it and continues to do so. The level of instruction is excellent and and exceeds my expectations at every turn. I am proud to call Gael Force home and you will be as well when you decide to come and train. BTW don't let your age stop you. I'm happy to say I believe I'm one of the oldest students (if not the oldest) in the dojo by at least a decade!

If you are reviewing the reviews of Gael Force to determine if you are going to start training at BJJ, I hope this one helps you start your journey at Gael Force. I've always wanted to learn BJJ but was always intimidated by what the experience might be like, such as having to partner up with a stranger and possibly being a victim of someone who likes to take advantage of white belts. I've been going to Gael Force for approximately two months, and I regret not starting sooner. The hardest part so far has been walking through the door the first time. Once I walked through the door, I was immediately welcomed by both instructors and students. What I enjoy the most is how everyone is eager to learn and how the students with more experience take the time and make it a point to assist newer and less experienced students in becoming better. During my two months at Gael Force, I have also been taking their kickboxing classes. The kickboxing classes are just as good as their BJJ classes. Additionally, Gael Force offers C4C PJJ, which is BJJ meant specifically for law enforcement. Gael Force is the only place in the nearby area that offers this training. Joining Gael Force has been one of the best decisions I have ever made!!

Coming from someone who had no prior martial arts training, Gael Force is a welcoming place. Again, I had NO prior martial arts training -- so I was hesitant. I am now kicking myself for not starting sooner! Alex is an effective instructor; he has a way of explaining techniques that make learning Jiu Jitsu manageable. In fact, that comment applies to ALL of the instructors at Gael Force. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy learning Jiu Jitsu, and that is a direct result of the comradery amongst the instructors and students at Gael Force. The class schedule makes attending practical, especially for someone who works abnormal hours or is pressed for time. I will finish by saying this, if you are thinking of learning Jiu Jitsu, do not put it off another day!

Great BJJ studio for beginners AND experienced students. I've trained at several different places, and I can say that Gael Force is one of the best for a couple of reasons: (a) Alex is very concise and meticulous in his description of how to apply the technique, including all of the fine details that MAKE IT WORK correctly, (b) the classes and instruction aren't rushed, so you have a good amount of time to drill each technique, while the instructors come around and make adjustments to help you get it right, (c) techniques are sequenced in a fashion that provides practice and insight about how to put moves together strategically. Lastly, just rolling and working with the other students there, it was obvious that the focus is on technique and learning (vs. trying to overpower people and be competitive) If you are looking for a place to train for competition - maybe this isn't where you want to go, but if you are looking for a place to actually learn BJJ and/or refine your techniques this is a great studio.

I could write about how great Alex is as an instructor, but there are already 20 reviews here that accurately represent that fact. Instead, I'd like to focus on Alex's proficiency as an owner/head instructor. First, Alex is present for all of the classes right now, demonstrating he has a personal interest in the development of each of his students. Furthermore, he takes time after each promotion (including stripes) to sit down with his students and tell them exactly what he expects to see out of them before their next promotion occurs. He also takes the time to help you develop your own "game" by teaching you techniques that fit within your tendencies. It is this direct involvement and attention to detail that makes you feel like part of the team, as opposed to a dollar sign for a bank account. The bottom line is that this is a great place to either start or continue on your journey through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend checking Gael Force out if you are interested in learning BJJ.

It's clear to me that Alex started this business because he has a real passion for teaching BJJ; not to cash in on a popular sport. Beginners are not thrown to the wolves like some hazing ritual. Class intensity is effectively scaled to accommodate students of all levels. Plus he has great hair and wears cool t-shirts. What more do you need? -Devin

I recently began training under Alex, hoping to lose weight and gain good self-defense techniques. I cannot adequately express what a phenomenal teacher Alex is. His expertise, combined with his empathy and patience, are instrumental in converting us neophytes into dedicated practitioners of jiu jitsu. His personal interest in seeing his students succeed is also a great motivator. I recommend Gael Force BJJ highly. If I can do it, then so can you!

It’s no surprise to me that Alex’s profession was teaching. I was very impressed with the comprehensive beginner’s curriculum he developed, and amazed by the individualized progression plans that he creates with each of his students. Alex has the rare ability to translate complex movements and techniques into simple steps that are easy to digest. His style of teaching is fun and effective, and the individual attention he gives to his students is invaluable. He is a wealth of knowledge and his deep understanding of the art is evident in the way that he can identify and correct the more subtle and advanced details you may be missing. Whether you’re looking to just have fun and get in shape, to learn effective real-world self-defense, or strive to become a high-level competitor, I highly recommend you come check out Gael Force Jiu Jitsu.

If you’re not looking to have fun, get in shape, and build confidence you don’t have to read further. If you are, you’re in the right place. Coach Alex is incredibly passionate about martial arts and self improvement. A school teacher for many years, he knows how to properly teach each technique so everyone can learn regardless of age and physical attributes. A lot of times people will say,”I can’t” but by the time you leave class, that will definitely have changed and you’ll begin to see a more positive attitude towards challenges and day to day tasks. I’m confident that the crew at Gael Force BJJ is going to be fantastic and a wonderful addition to Roxbury. I’m sincerely looking forward to this!

Alex is an amazing person. He has this ability, with an amazing mixture of calm and intensity, to delve deeply into the complex and nuanced details of BJJ and bring you along for the ride. I walk away from every class with the knowledge that everything I just learned will either take only a short time to master or be immediately useful. He has a deep understanding of self defense, competitive/sport Jiu Jitsu and is able to create, via his extremely motivated personality, a learning environment that is both challenging and rewarding. If you are looking for a fun environment or experience that will help you as you endeavor to improve the varied aspects of your life, that we all seek to improve upon, Gael Force is definitely a place for you. He is also really really good with kids.
