I’ve been training all over the place but this gym is something else, every time I can I drive 1 hour to have class with them!! The professors are really tough and technical, the environment is friendly, they welcome you as part of the family!! The mats are new and the place is clean. I mean worthy my one hour drive hands down!!
Dave is such a great guy and fun person to be around and always so nice to talk to His team is all full of really wonderful members and I always have a fun time training here . I traveled the entire US training and I can promise you will feel very welcome and safe. Very well organized structure and awesome athletes
Due to work constantly relocating me, I’ve trained at a decent amount of bjj academies. Dave is by far one of the nicest and knowledgeable instructors. Classes are well organized, with a fantastic family like crowd. That goes for both, kids classes and adult classes since my son and I both train at Core. It doesn’t get any better than this. Proud to be a part of this team.
Good quality instruction. No contracts. Acceptable rates. Clean mats. Open 6 days a week. All of these qualities leads to a good school. Owner gives a LOT of time to his trade, genuinely cares about his students and KNOWS what he is doing. I trained at two other schools in two other states; one good, one bad. I think I know what qualifies. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn’t easy at first. It’s a gauntlet like no other. Eventually you will be less & less sore, and training like a pro.

Core is an excellent martial arts academy for both children and adults. When I moved to the area I had already been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about 8 years and had experienced a variety of different academies. Core was the first academy I looked at and never felt like I needed to see anything else in the area. The head instructor Dave is an excellent teacher who cares about his students progress and creates a fun and light atmosphere for training. The other students are welcoming and create a family-like atmosphere which is often difficult to develop. I am happy to call Core my martial arts home and look forward to enrolling my kids in their programs as well. Overall I would highly recommend Core for anyone looking to learn martial arts or continue their training journey.
Core BJJ is a place that everyone should experience. Besides teaching high level technique and providing fitness and self defense principles, it’s a great place for kids and adults looking to compete in the sport! It’s really a place for everyone, Dave and the staff are the best in the business!

I recently attended a drop in class with a friend who trains at Core, my first time doing a drop in at a different gym that I do not regularly train at. There really is a family vibe here and I found head instructor Dave and everyone on the mats very welcoming and open. Great instruction, great rolls with students of all levels, I saw training being geared to the abilities of individual students, all in all a great school of your looking to start or continue to train BJJ.
I started training here in Oct 2019, and even through Covid and breaks in training you just want to keep coming back. You have friendly and encouraging people that are always willing to help or show you a way out of moves. No matter your background or training level you are guaranteed good instruction from coach Dave and good rolls with people of all levels. Seriously no judgement zone at this facility. I started my journey at Core just shy of three years ago and wouldn't have it any other way. I love everything about it! It's a clean, comfortable environment to be in with great people who are all there for one reason, to learn and train jiu-jitsu! There is a kid's program that is definitely worth checking out as well. Dave is a very well rounded instructor with a lot of excellent knowledge to share.

I started training at Core 9 months ago because I was looking for a way to get in shape that wouldn't feel like a chore. I didn't know at the time that I would find a great new hobby that I look forward to all day. Dave's classes are fun, and at the same time you learn a new skill. Everyone at Core is friendly and eager to teach you something. When I started I had no experience in martial arts or grappling whatsoever. I was completely outside my comfort zone. I'm sure this was obvious, but Dave has created an environment where everyone feels welcome and no one is made to feel like an outsider. I would recommend Core to anyone who wants to learn BJJ or find a fun way to exercise.

Recently My 9 year old jumped with excitement after trying his first class here asking to please stay with Core for Jiu Jitsu! They have amazing guidance and quality training that kept my bouncy little monkey engaged and focused! Definitely a place to empower confidence and control while keeping them active and exercising !
I love this place. Dave is extremely knowledgeable in jiu jitsu and treats each student as a family member. I've had several class mates assume that I've known Dave for years, but I've only been training with him since Nov 2017. This is how Dave is with all of his students from the start, and he's always trying to get the most out of his students while keeping his classes fun. Come train and you'll see. Update: one year later and my positive view of Dave’s school has only been strengthened. Dave is an instructor that actively pushes his students to train at his gym and other gyms simultaneously. This is a guy who just wants to spread jiu jitsu because he truly loves it and believes in it. Personally, I felt I’ve recognized it early on in my training, but time has only made my bonds stronger to core and it’s members. I’m hoping that I can be training at this gym into my 60s.
We highly recommend Core! Since starting our son has shown great improvement and much more confidence. Dave is really good at getting the most out of each kid. He knows just how much to push to develop the skills and aggression needed to become a winner!!!
Dave is a amazing coach and has created an environment that is not only educational but fun. As a person in his 40's I was very hesitant to give this a shot. I have been attending classes for a little over a month and I have to tell you, this has been a great experience. For anyone who has ever thought about learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu I would say do it and do it here. Dave and all the members of the academy are welcoming and you will amazed at how much you will learn while having fun.

My daughter started at Core last December and has been excited about attending class since then. Coach Dave keeps the classes fun while teaching respect with an emphasis on good sportsmanship. I highly recommend Core for anyone of any age.
We started at Core just about a year ago. My daughter started and not even a week later my husband signed up after taking 8 years off from Jiu Jitsu. We have noticed such a difference with in our daughter. She had low self esteem, would get upset and just give up on herself. She now has such confidence in herself, even recently competing in her first competition. She didn't care if she went home with a medal or not she was just proud of herself for going on there and trying. Her school teachers have told us how she has been more focused on her work and doesn't let little things bother her. Our daughter has started in the wrestling program as well and absolutely loves it We highly recommend all of the programs that Core has to offer.
Great place for kids and adults!! My daughter has been going here for a month now loves it. We finally found something for her that she is excited about every time she goes. She’s learning discipline and respect and staying active which is exactly what she needs.

My son has been going to Core for approximately 6 months. I really love the dynamic of this facility. It is like a small family. My son meets new friends and it helps when he has had a rough day. This program has definitely helped with his ADHD. Not only have I seen a difference but so has his teachers. I would recommend this facility to anyone with a kid.

It took forever but finally a family friendly BJJ school opened in Byram. One other plus is the price is unmatched as far as I've ever seen personally.
Kids are loving Core learning BJJ with David. Patient and step by step instructions are great for learning and beginners.

Dave is a Great instructor! He is fantastic with the Kids class. He's the big brother that has the skill to beat you up but would much rather teach the skills he's learned that allow him to do so. He has a great connection with the kids and they love him. #corebjj

Core is a great school in a great location. I have been training with Dave for a long time, he is an amazing instructor. As a Police Officer I believe all LEO should be training and Dave is very LEO friendly.

I’ve been to other BJJ locations and Dave has the friendliest establishment. You feel like a family. Everyone asks how you’re doing if you haven’t been to class in a while, Dave personally will make sure everything is okay and he genuinely cares about all of his students. I don’t think you’ll find another location where the instructor cares so much about Jiu-Jitsu. The women’s only class is great for women who are a little hesitant to trying Jiu-Jitsu, but honestly the guys are awesome. Everyone is willing to help you learn and want to see you advance. I love this place and I highly recommend you give it a try.

I have taken several classes are Core BJJ and all instructors and school are amazing! Their attention to detail and patience teaching students of all levels makes this school unique. My techniques in BJJ are getting much better because they are able to see where I am struggling and they help me fix the small details. The environment is very friendly, welcoming, and very clean as well. Dave, the owner, is a great instructor and very passionate about the sport.
