STJJ is a great place to train. They have high quality coaches who are attentive and very knowledgeable. They teach techniques in a clear manner and have a structured training plan (topics or moves build upon each other vs a new submission taught every class). They focus on all aspects of the sport to make you a well rounded player whether you are a hobbyist or competitor. Most importantly STJJ fosters a culture of inclusion and care - I have never felt like an outsider or risk of injury due to careless actions by training partners. There is a natural risk of injury in the sport but knowing that training partners and coaches keep safety in mind makes STJJ a perfect place for me.

Our family was looking for a BJJ and Muay Thai gym for awhile and we are so grateful to have found South Tampa Jiu Jitsu! The coaches are amazing, the family centered pricing makes it so that everyone can train & I love that all 3 of my kids can take classes at once instead of having to be on site for 3 hours for back to back classes. I’ve seen more growth for my autistic kids here than I saw in occupational therapy. We can’t recommend this place enough!

South Tampa Jiu Jitsu is a great and welcoming place to train for both adults and children. My daughter and I have been training there for 2+ years and it just keeps getting better. Lane, John and the other instructors are top notch and have created a tight knit community where it is a joy to learn. Highly recommended for anyone looking to give Jiu Jitsu or MMA a try.

Best training facility and instructors in the South Tampa area. By far the best detailed information you can get from high caliber teacher such as Lane Andrews. Known Fletcher Linton for over 12 years and both him and Lane have been very instrumental in development over the years in not just jiujitsu but as a coach and instructor as well. This is an establishment that speaks for it self. Highly recommended for kids to older adults !!

I was in town for a couple days and the instructor, Lane Andrews, said it was cool that I drop in on some gi and nogi classes. The BJJ gym shares space with other martial arts, but don't worry, the classes are separate so you won't get distracted from what is going on in the other classes. Clean, up-to-date facility that has clean bathrooms too. Great students who welcomed me on the mats and we all had a fun time training together. If you're thinking about it, this would be a fantastic place to start your BJJ journey. Next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to stop by!

By this point you have already researched Jiu Jitsu/or you may already have experience and are now looking for a gym to try out. Look no further. I tried BJJ at a gym in the Tampa Bay area once before and ended up having a bad experience. I was hesitant to start up again however I had a yearning for this powerful martial art. After an exhaustive search of all the schools in the area I kept coming back to the name of Robson Moura and the many accolades and achievements associated with his name. I live in the South Tampa area so I figured I would shoot the gym an email. I was not expecting to actually converse with the owner, Robson's first black belt in Florida: Lane Andrews. Lane took the time to email back and forth with me and answer all my questions with very specific answers. I was sold. The atmosphere at RMNU is very welcoming. The Blue belts actually take the time to teach the white belts, rather than just use them to hone their craft. For beginners, the fundamentals class is taught by another very highly skilled Black Belt, John Ortolani. Both Lane and John are amazing teachers and extremely attentive to the minor details that all belts will use throughout their entire journey from white to black. One will often see blue belts attending the fundamental classes, which is just another plus for the new white belt. The saying: "Ego is checked at the door" can not be more apparent at this school. If you're looking to begin a journey in Jiu Jitsu, or continuing the never ending path of learning this martial art, or simply looking for a place to get in shape and learn to defend yourself...Shoot Lane an email with any questions, or come in for a session. You will be welcomed.

RMNU South Tampa Jiu-Jitsu is by far the best place to train on the South Tampa peninsula. The whole facility has a very "down to earth" vibe and the instruction couldn't been more friendly or detailed. The head instructor, Lane Andrews makes everyone feel like a friend from Day One. BJJ basics are cycled through the curriculum along with more advanced technique and you always get a great workout. Fellow students are friendly and engaging. Get off the treadmill and come check it out!

I've tried many different BJJ schools in South Tampa and either the instructors seemed as if they were only there for the money or they didn't take the time to teach for everyone's specific level. I've been training at RMNU South Tampa for over a year and I love the atmosphere. The instructor, Lane, breaks everything down to everyone's specific level and even takes the time to individually watch the student's techniques. I'm always learning something new and love my training partners! Everyone pushes each other to make each other better. The kid's classes are great for all ages, for those new to BJJ I highly recommend it as it helped me boost my self confidence and keeps me in shape! Whether you are looking for competing or just a fun self defense learning environment, RMNU South Tampa is the way to go.

It can be intimidating to walk into a Jiu Jitsu class for the first time, but it is even more so when you are the only woman in the room. Luckily, my first interaction with Lane put me at ease within moments of stepping on the mat. His self-assurance, engaging personality, and clear dedication to both the art and his students were obviously apparent. He maintains an impressive balance of discipline and laughter that makes every class enjoyable and helps push me to excel. I initially attended his class as a free trail, and wasn’t sure if I’d be comfortable enough to stick with it. That all changed during my first class; while I was interested in learning BJJ, it was Lane’s instruction that convinced me that not only would I be able to learn new skills, I would enjoy doing it. Lane emphasizes the team and friendship aspects of BJJ on a daily basis, both overtly with statements during class, and less obviously through his honest interest in bringing his students into the “family” that is RMNU. I have taken other martial arts classes, and felt that the school was driven primarily to make as much money as possible in as little time as possible. With Lane, I can tell that his primary goal is to train those of us in his class to the best of his abilities (which are impressive). This fundamental difference is key to my dedication to BJJ and RMNU, as well as a driving factor in the camaraderie that exists among those of us who train together. It took me almost a year after I moved to town to stop procrastinating and start training with RMNU in South Tampa. The best advice that I can give anyone who is interested in BJJ is to come in and try it out ASAP. A terrific facility, great people, and an amazing instructor are the perfect foundations for learning a sport that has more physical and mental benefits than you can believe. Come join us! -Carolyn Prill

Lane isn’t just a good friend, but also my first BJJ training partner more than 15 yrs ago. There are a few words that come to mind when I think of him: Educated, detailed, personal, integrity, competitor, giver, loyal, and real. Lane is not just a great martial artist and teacher, he is also one who truly lives a life of bushido. There are plenty of people out there who talk the talk, but few have walked the walk as well as Lane has in his martial arts career. I’ve trained with some of the best martial artist and fighters in the world and there is a reason why I call Lane Andrews one of the toughest guys I’ve ever met. If you are in the Tampa area trust me there is no better place to train than with Lane and the whole RMNU family. It’s the only place I go when I’m in town not just because I’m friends with Lane, but because it’s world class training. Do yourself a favor and sign up at RMU South Tampa today! RMNU South is a great place to train BJJ. I've trained at many places and the first few minutes I tried this academy, I knew it was for me. As part of the Robson Moura team, we are exposed to solid foundational techniques as well as modern advanced ones. Lane is a great teacher who leads by example and wins competitions. He spends the time to break down techniques and helps individual students progress their games. The team is awesome too - as a female practitioner, I always feel 100% comfortable with all my training partners. I highly recommended RMNU South.

I’ve trained and studied jiu jitsu with Lane for almost five years. His detailed explanation, compassion, and attentiveness make Mr. Andrews a world class instructor. As a training partner, Lane remains at the top of my “want to roll list” because of his controlled intensity and in-depth candid feedback. I always come away from our sessions feeling revitalized. I’d make training with Lane daily a priority in my schedule if I lived in the Tampa area.

When I first moved to Tampa, I was considering training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so I asked a brown belt friend of mine who he recommended that I train with. He recommended Robson Maura, a jiu jitsu legend who happened to live in Tampa, so I found an RMNU location in South Tampa near where I live. I quickly found that Lane Andrews, the instructor at RMNU South Tampa Jiu Jitsu, is a talented jiu jitsu teacher. His classes are fun, well organized, instructive, and a solid workout. He has a resume which is a testament to his talent as a competitor and martial artist as well. If you train jiu jitsu, or you want to start for the first time, this is the perfect place to do it. Although I had a martial arts background, I hadn't trained in 10+ years when I walked into RMNU South Tampa. Quite honestly, I was out of shape when I began, but I felt at home right away. Since then, I've lost a significant amount of weight and gained cardiovascular endurance. It was a great choice to train with RMNU South Tampa.

Robson Maura Nova União is one of the best schools, lead by one of the best competitors and teachers, and Lane Andrews is one of his best instructors. Within five minutes of my first contact with Lane, he taught me new skills. I highly recommend his school, and I have been to more than a few around the country.

Very welcome, friendly atmosphere. All the people are so inviting and helpful and the classes are a lot of fun!

I called a few weeks ago. The call was awesome. And friendly welcoming for my 4 year old. I was invited to stop by anytime. I went yesterday afternoon. Nobody in front to answer questions. Shoes behind the black kind of podium inside. Waited about 5 minutes there was an employee only door. I knocked on it no answer. My son was excited to sign up but nobody came to welcome us. Nobody was in uniform. Two instructors had kickboxing shorts. Hard to tell who was an instructor from the students. They saw me and no signal of "we will be right with you". Looks wise it was dim with half the lamps missing light bulbs. The front was disorganized. We left. This school does well, lots of students. I am sure they are pk but nothing like the website pictures. Nobody had a gi on. That was telling. Maybe I went at the wrong time and they do not have admin personnel. Very much a let down. Bummer.l
