Gracie Barra Westlake is a fantastic jiu jitsu school. I’ve trained here for years and it’s one of the great schools in Central Texas. Instructors for both adult and kids’ classes are knowledgeable and effectively lead their students. It’s a great environment for everything you’re seeking in BJJ, whether that be fitness, discipline, and/or competition. I can’t recommend GB Westlake enough.

I can't say enough good things about this place! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed, supported, and inspired. The instructors are world-class, not only in skill, but in how they connect with both kids and adults. They’re patient, encouraging, and know how to bring out the best in every student, no matter the age or experience level. For kids, the classes are structured, fun, and packed with lessons in discipline, respect, and confidence. My 2 kids have grown tremendously not just in technique, but in mindset and self-esteem. They actually look forward to every class! As for the adult classes, they’re equally amazing. Whether you're a total beginner or someone with experience, you’ll find an incredibly motivating environment here. The community is supportive, the training is top-notch, and you’ll leave every session feeling stronger, sharper, and more empowered. If you're looking for a place that feels like family, teaches real skills, and builds character on and off the mats, this is it. Highly, highly recommended!

Professor Jeff’s teaching is a conceptual and philosophical approach to jiujitsu with sniper-like precision and great attention to details. Professor Jeff teaches through principles and concepts helping students understand the mechanics of positions and techniques. Most of all, he is a good Man. I love this location and my kids love taking Professor Dande’s class.

This school has some great instruction! Being the new guy there with no idea what I'm doing, they make sure to give me the one-on-one with an instructor so they can walk me through the training. I highly recommend including jiu-jitsu in your life. You feel so good afterward! Gracie Barra Westlake is the place to be!

The professors and team here are amazing. I don’t like to use the whole family term here too often but this gym right now is home. Don’t get too comfortable though because some time they excersize tough love. Tough rolls, good people, good times. Check em out.

Last night was our son’s second class at Gracie Barra Westlake. He has loved it so far and lights up when I tell him it’s Jiu-Jitsu day. Coach Paul is fantastic with kids. On top of learning Jiu-Jitsu, he teaches the kids core values that will help them in their everyday lives. He’s able to do all this while keeping an orderly class (with a number of young kids), and making things fun! We’re happy we found GB Westlake!

Paul and the team of coaches are great. It's not easy to walk into a jiu-jitsu gym on your first occasion, but this group of people are welcoming. It's the perfect environment to begin and further your journey. I can't say enough good things about the place. 10/10!

Our family didn’t know anything about Jujitsu before we started. Paul and his team are excellent teachers and even nicer people. Our 8 year now loooves jujitsu and competes in tournaments. It has helped his confidence noticeably. Paul is the best and our other two kids will attend soon.

Coach Paul took the time to listen when we needed a little extra attention. My son was ready to quit as he has with so many other activities in the past, but Coach Paul worked with us to keep him active and engaged. Thank you so much for going above and beyond!!!

What a phenomenal jujitsu spot for the whole family! Paul is incredibly patient and fun, but challenges the kids to be their best selves too. And for me, I’ve learned SO much and have fallen in love with the sport in both the adult class and the women’s class. GB Westlake is the BEST spot around

Love it here! I asked my 10 year old step son if he wanted to go to six flags, he got excited and was like “YESSSS!!!!” Then said “wait!, I have to be back for Jiu-Jitsu or I can’t go to six flags”. Bottom line, your kids will love it ❤️ and so will you!

My teenage son started his BJJ training here as a beginner and is now quite competent and doing well in his training. He enjoys the classes and has had a very positive experience. The communication is good and he has enjoyed visiting some of the other Gracie Barra locations in Austin as well. The Westlake location is very convenient and well managed. Thank you!

Paul and the crew are great! Two of my boys took lessons for years. They learned a lot and even went to a competition. It is not only great exercise, but great discipline, too. Respect others, manage your emotions, and celebrate your opponent’s wins. A wonderful life-long sport that is great to start when they are young. Thanks to Paul and the others at Westlake Jiu Jitsu!

I cannot recommend this gym enough, both for beginners and upper belts. They do a phenomenal job of fostering a team environment and positive culture for everyone who attends, whilst not shying away from competition that makes everyone better. The professor and coaches are first class. Really nice guys who love what they do and often stayed late after practice with me to help hone techniques. Compared to other gyms I have trained at, GB does a great job with teaching the fundamentals of jujitsu. This makes the sport less complex and accelerates personal improvement. Jujitsu is an amazing martial art that will challenge you physically and mentally, so it is critical to find a gym that makes that journey enjoyable. GB Westlake does that to perfection and deserves 5 stars for it. Osss

The Gracie Barra Jujitsu in Westlake is incredible. We had heard great things about it, and it’s been amazing for our kids. They somehow manage to instill discipline and fun at the same time. The theory and the methodology are both impressive. Each coach is very thoughtful and deliver it in the way they instruct, moving from kid to kid without focusing on one specific kid.

My son and I couldn’t be happier with our experience at Gracie Barra Westlake. You’ll find it an extremely welcoming environment for both kid and adult beginning white belts. My 11 almost 12 year old started training with Coach Paul at Gracie Barra West Lake a year ago. He has grown so much in terms of his confidence, discipline, coordination, strength & self pride. Coach Paul is amazing with the kids - commanding respect through kindness & high expectations. I believe Jiu Jitsu is a skilled sport that my son can grow with throughout his life- he will have his own personal journey with it. I’m very proud of his achievement as he’s not a sports kind of a kid but he loves & believes in Jiu Jitsu. Thank you, Gracie Barra West Lake & Coach Paul!

If you are thinking about starting Brazilian jui-jitsu, I highly recommend the Westlake Gracie Barra organization. I started at over 50 years of age and have been doing it for over a year now. And I can say I am really satisfied with the hours available for training, the instruction and coaching and great camaraderie.

GB Westlake is an outstanding BJJ school. Very friendly welcoming environment, outstanding kids program, everything you could ask for from a school. Coach Paul is a very effective instructor and coach and so are the rest of the professors here. Definitely come in for a trial class wether you’ve never trained before or if you already have some experience, you won’t be disappointed. The mats are always clean and well maintained. I’ve trained at Gracie Barras now for over 11 years and GB Westlake is a great example of everything this team is about. Quality instruction, competitive training, and a family environment. You won’t find any massive egos here, just people who want to up their game and help each other improve.

My 7 year old daughter Sophie started with Coach Paul in November 2020 with very little confidence, no prior experience, and a lot of apprehension simply because she had never tried Juijitsu. Over the past 7 months I have seen my nervous Nelly become a beaming, empowered, confident, and strong little lady who is fearless and ready for a new challenge- not just in Juijitsu but daily life. Thank you Coach Paul and Michelle for giving her the confidence and wings to try new things and the will to NOT GIVE UP when something is hard💙. I’d give 10 stars if I could!

We have been thrilled to have the leading Brazilian jiu-jitsu training gym setup in West Austin. They do a great job with the kids focusing on learning, training and fun. The training for teens and adults is equally strong with emphasis on learning BJJ , workouts, live training and fun. There is strong reminders to workout in a safe, controlled manner with the team and friends. We are having lots of fun and getting great workouts

We first went to Gracie Barra Westlake to start our 4 year old in Jiu Jitsu. I love the sport for teaching toughness, competition, and the gentleness that comes with confidence. I knew something about the sport and even had a little experience at another BJJ gym, so I had some preconceived ideas that it would be tough for a 4 yr old even though we'd make it. But here's what I found. Most important for my situation, the professors and coaches know how to talk to little kids and give them all the attention it takes to teach some technique. For my guy, 4 is still the youngest it makes sense, but I've met a couple (not most) of 3 year olds who could handle it with their approach. And they have a program for making games of the skills and techniques so the skill learning and fitness blends with games that kids like. As it turns out I have gotten more out of the classes than my little guy, because I have been training myself (different classes for us big kids ;). The great thing about the adult classes is that the skills and techniques are specific so you know what moves you need to learn through the beginners curriculum. Taking up BJJ at Gracie Barra Westlake has been great for my fitness and it's been a source of happiness beyond that. If you think BJJ will be fun for you then you should definitely call to come in for free class to check it out.

Being brand new to jiu jitsu it was I was a little intimidated before my first class but everyone was very welcoming and it was nice to see many others that were also new to the sport. The hour long class is a great workout physically and mentally. As a runner and triathlete I can see this as being a great cross training workout. I enjoyed it so much that I also signed up my 4 y/o for the kids classes! It’s great to have this in the neighborhood!
