The youth classes at GCOM are wonderful! ALL of the coaches and Ms. Dana elevate the self-esteem and skill level of every child. They work really hard to foster a sense of belonging for the youth along with promoting a grand sense of team. Absolutely one of the best decisions we made to enroll our kids here! As a family, we plan to lay down some serious roots at GCOM as the adult classes are top notch as well.

Whether you’re brand new to Jiu jitsu or a trained student, this place is by far the best! From day, one on the mats, the entire team instructors and students have been nothing but supportive and encouraging. You can tell they take pride in their education and curriculum in regards to breaking movements down for beginners, but also enhancing education for more accomplished students Alec Puts a lot of time in work in all facets of the gym whether it’s just saying hi or staying after class to review a movement or scenario. The dude is down to earth and is passionate about creating a culture of competitiveness but also managing the different levels of students so everyone feels comfortable. Highly recommend you check it out for not only Jiu jitsu, but for kickboxing wrestling MMA, etc.

The outcome has been outstanding, as her confidence has drastically improved, she has developed strong friendships, and the coaches and staff have been nothing short of professional and kind. If you are in Law-enforcement and work/live in the Baltimore city/County area, and you are not training here you're committing a disservice to yourself and the citizens that you have swore to protect. Coming from a LE background I have lost count on how many occasions I was actively engaging with a resisting suspect armed with a handgun, which resulted in not only myself but the suspect coming out unscathed due to my training that i have received here. Training BJJ has taught me how to remain calm and confident in stressful situations and also how to deal with humans of all different shapes and sizes. Ground Control Owings mills has become the HUB of top notch quality training. The results speak for itself!

Training with this amazing community has completely altered my health, my fitness level, my confidence and my entire mindset. As a female, I allowed myself to feel very intimidated at first. But I quickly realized gender, age and ability are never an issue here. You fit in by choosing to show up consistently, working hard, asking questions, being coachable and supporting your training partners. My daughters train with the kids’ program and have learned so much about respect, self-defense, leadership and their bravery in competition in a safe and organized environment. Every single coach is either an active professional fighter or has years of previous competition experience. They are all knowledgeable, talented teachers. The facility is massive and has everything you need for training and S&C. Love this place and the people!

I joined this gym to try something different and what I've received far surpasses what I had been looking for. They offer classes in a variety of styles throughout the day which has allowed me to make it in despite having a moving schedule at work. The coaches I've met have all been great and are able to explain the concepts in any class in ways I can understand and build off of which I imagine is difficult because I had absolutely zero experience walking in. Even in group setting classes they have helped me to recognize and understand my own individual strengths and weaknesses so I can set goals around things that I am beginning to progress in and things I need to work on. I was initially just trying to find another way to stay active that would be a challenge but Ground Control Owings Mills has provided a sense of community and an experience I didn't realize I needed in my life. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about trying a gym look into Ground Control Owings Mills.

I am extremely impressed with this organization. I shopped around in the Owings Mills area for my toddler and could not find anything that was suitable. Either they were overpriced, didn't provide efficient classes, or unprofessional and going through the motions. I love this place, the staff, and my daughter loves it as well! And I forgot to mention, I really appreciate the patience that ALL the instructors have!

Exceptional Martial Arts Training Experience at Ground Control Owings Mills. If you're in search of a top-notch martial arts training facility in Owings Mills, look no further than Ground Control. My journey here began years ago with Muay Thai classes under the tutelage of Coach Paul, whose expertise and enthusiasm have truly elevated my skills. His classes are not only educational but incredibly enjoyable, especially with the optional sparring sessions at the end, which provide invaluable experience. In August of 2023, I ventured into the world of Jiu-Jitsu under the guidance of Coaches Alec Wolinski and Eli Oliver. Their approach to teaching is unparalleled, seamlessly transitioning from broad concepts to individualized attention, ensuring every student grasps the techniques regardless of body type or flexibility. The noon classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are competitive in a positive way, fostering a growth mindset in a friendly and supportive environment. More recently, I've delved into MMA training during the 11-12 sessions on Tuesday and Thursday with Coach Ryan Mackin. These classes are a perfect amalgamation of striking, wrestling, and various other disciplines essential for MMA. The intensity and dedication of the group make every session the highlight of my week. Ground Control Owings Mills isn't just a gym; it's a community of like-minded individuals driven by a shared commitment to self-improvement and hard work. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a novice, the coaches here will guide you every step of the way, helping you reach your full potential. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

I joined this gym at the end of my free 7 day trial last summer and couldn’t be happier with my choice. I was looking for a way to workout that I could sincerely enjoy and stay interested in over time. When I was younger, playing sports gave me the sort of stress relieving, mentally engaging type of workout I love. Finding that kind of workout on a regular basis as an adult with a full time job and varied hours is tough, but at Ground Control I have it. I get on the mat and the class will fly by -an hour feels like 10 minutes. The coaches and other members are friendly and fun to work with. I don’t think I’ve taken a single class where I wasn’t laughing at some point, but I’m also learning so much and getting a great workout. The facilities are clean, spacious and modern. The class times will work around any schedule. If you are even the tiniest bit curious to try a fighting style workout you should absolutely stop in and experience it for yourself.

Joining the team at Ground Control Owings Mills has been an eye-opening experience! The facilities are clean and taken care of. The time offerings for classes are accommodating to all schedules. Even if there is not a class, the gym is open to those who want to lift or do their own workout. The most important part of any gym for me is the environment. I had always wanted to try combat sports but was nervous due to lack of experience and didn't want to get ridiculed or hurt. I quickly realized that GCOM has such an accepting and safe environment. Even though this is a place for serious competitors to train, everyone meets you at whatever level you are and helps bring you to a higher one. All the coaches are very skilled and really take the time to help you improve. Whatever your goal is, they will do their best to make sure you can achieve it. The members are diverse in background, experience, and skills (some professional, some hobbyists, and some in between). They are also all incredibly respectful and supportive of each other. The group of women I have met here and trained with have all been so amazing and helpful in my journey! I always look forward to learning a new skill and leave feeling accomplished and refreshed knowing I can put in the work to be the best version of myself. I can't wait to see what the future holds!

We’ve been member at Ground control for nearly 3 years and have enjoyed every day of it! My daughter started the amazing kids program (BJJ, Mauy Thai) when she was a very shy 4 year old. Initially, there were days when she had to be coaxed onto the mat by the coaches, a challenge they accepted. Today, she is excited about training, competes in scrimmages and loves welcoming new friends to the mat because of the talented GCOM coaches and their ability to uniquely approach each child and tailor the training to the child’s needs. The adult program is no different. Every person is welcomed and coached with patience regardless of his/her experience (none in my case when I started 2 years ago) and personal goals. All of the coaches have professional competition experience and passion that they willingly share. It is fun to be in class despite the hard work. If you think MMA is not for you because you don’t want to hit other people, think again. At Ground Control, it is about confidence, self-control, respect, ability to read another and adjust your strategy, and most importantly, a quest for continuous improvement, in a friendly environment.

This will sound like an exaggeration, but this gym has changed my life. I signed up for the free 7-day trial about a year ago and never looked back. I started during a dark time in my life, and this place and its people have provided a safe space, a community, a team, and a support system that have added to my life in immeasurable ways. Importantly, this is a great, safe gym for women. Every single coach treats you with respect regardless of gender, age, or skill level. Issues with other members (of which I've seen almost none) are dealt with professionally and discreetly by staff. This gym is taken seriously in competing because so many members compete and win, but no one is pressured to compete if they just come for fun and fitness. This past year I won Rookie of the Year, which made me realize that this place rewards effort, hard work, and heart over anything else. I plan on staying with this gym as long as possible, which I hope will lead to more friendships and me beginning to compete.

I highly recommend training at Ground Control Owings Mills. It's perfect for both beginners and serious competitors. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, they will go above and beyond to help you reach your fitness goals. The facilities are clean and well maintained, as they take hygiene very seriously. It's not just a place to train but also to make friends and have a sense of community. My training partners and coaches are some of the nicest people ever. They have a couple professional fighters teaching group classes here, which is always an awesome experience. You know that what they’re teaching you has been pressure tested and of the highest quality. You can also pick up private lessons at an extra fee, all of which is reasonably priced. Another thing I really love about this gym is that there is no limit as to how many classes you can attend. Most fight gyms have an attendance cap and/or tiers to their membership. Not the case at GCOM. I originally joined to train in Boxing, but quickly fell in love with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve attended a couple Muay Thai classes and they’re also tons of fun. They have classes seven days a week at various times throughout the day; to accommodate various types of work schedules and life styles. This is great for someone like myself who works a crazy schedule, but there’s always a class I can drop in whenever I get some free time. Life circumstances led me to take a break, but I'll definitely be returning because of the welcoming and positive experiences I've had here. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Your experience level, age and fitness do not matter, they are always sure to accommodate your individual needs. The other coaches, especially Coach Ray, Coach Will and Coach Vu, are just top notch. I have worked the most with Coach Ray and he is a better human being than he is a coach and that is really saying something because he is a phenomenal coach. I've been going to ground control for about a year and can with 100% certainty attest to the quality of work being done at the gym. The first attribute of note is the flexibility of their class schedule. I started with the NO-GI BJJ classes and moved onto to the other marital arts that they offered and could easily get a lesson in rain or shine. It doesn't matter the time of day or your schedule, there is always a class open for you. Whether it's 6AM on a Wednesday morning or 7pm on a Tuesday night, the gym will be open. The next aspect I'd like to talk about is the competitive prices, while I won't go into the detail about the cost, I will assure you that this gym is the definition of "Bang for your Buck". It's a large facility with weights, crash pads, and even a sauna; you have access to all of it along with every martial arts class they have available. You get what you pay for. However, none of these perks would be of any value if the community/culture didn't match the quality of their facility. Luckily, the people at ground control are second to none, it does not matter where you came from or your walk of life, you'll have a place at ground control. Everyone here is friendly, from your gym partners to the coaches, and they will help you reach your goes no matter the skill level or constraint. All you have to do is show up. In summary ground control is a great gym and I can't wait to see you there!

I love this gym! My daughter is 7 and has been going here a little over a year now. She loves it too. She takes Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and MMA. She even competes when they have scrimmages and competitions. The coaches are knowledgeable and patient with all the kids! They allow the parents to sit mat-side and watch classes. Classes are variable and throughout the week which is nice because if we can't go on the same days all the time, then classes are still available other days. We had bad experiences doing intro classes other places until we came here, then there was no looking back. She loves this sport and has really improved not only her athleticism, but her character and confidence as well. They care about parents and kids alike. I truly can't say enough good things about this gym!

This is great program and I love the family environment they create and the camaraderie thats present with the students. They teach the students MMA but also discipline and self control. I signed my grandson up because he was being bullied in school (elementary school), then he got jumped and beat up in the bathroom. He's been in the program just about a month and I can see a difference in how he carries himself. His confidence has increased and he isn't as timid. The bully approached him in school again and needless to say the outcome was much different.

My several months at ground control were the best learning experience I've had, in that to a person every coach and member encouraged me to keep trying and reach for that last bit of effort , which I didn't know I had. The coaches at ground control not only teach the basics, but they reteach and reteach them... But more importantly they teach by example an attitude, or set of attitudes : respect, willingness to learn, encouragement, to have fun, and be open to a better way or technique. The most important lesson I've learned at ground control is being comfortable with panic, to wait out the feeling of " there's no Fing way out of this ". This was a daily lesson. In other words , to me, Ground Control taught me there's always a second chance.

UPDATE: after being there for a year, the place has doubled in space, we now have a resident ufc fighter (Tucker Lutz), and a myriad of new classes. I've lost 30lbs and life is way way better! The space is awesome! The trainers are awesome! Very supportive atmosphere for every kind of person!

The best MMA school in the area. You can learn Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Boxing here. Their instructors are very good, highly experienced (black belts, brown belts). Great place for people of any skill level, everyone is treated the same. There's also a kids matital-arts program and after-school program. The flexible schedules made it convenient for people like me with crazy working hours to fit in 2-3 classes a week. I tried 3 different gyms of a similar nature in the area and what really made Ground Control unique is that they don't try and pressure you into signing up for long term commitments and don't nickel and dime you. Another popular gym in the area only allowed you to participate in 1 free lesson and after that, you are sat down where they go over their annual membership contract which included a hefty termination fee if you want to cancel. No thanks. When I was at Ground Control I was taking classes for a month without having payed anything. So I asked an instructor "Hey shouldn't I be paying by now?" and his response was "Oh yeah, as long as you're sure you like it here". I could go on but you get the idea. Ground Control is the best.

I have 0 complaints. There are all types of classes at all types of times for almost any schedule and at every level , there are a plethora of knowledgeable and friendly teachers and students, and the atmosphere in general is great.

I started this gym several months ago after leaving another boxing gym. The facility and staff are both extremely knowledgeable, and helpful in various disciplines of martial arts. If you are serious about the sport, you would have to pay me to train somewhere else.

Signed up about 10 months ago and was immediately hooked. I tried a few of each class that was offered and really fell in love with Jiu Jitsu. The place is like a second home to me now. The coaches and teammates are all great and everybody wants to help each other improve. Wether you’re an experienced martial arts practitioner or just starting out, this is the place to be.

This place quickly became my 2nd home after joining. Top quality instructors with battle tested strategies. Huge facility with tons of mat space, cage, ring, and workout area. I love this place so much. The Instructors and students here have such a friendly and supporting vibe as well. No experience needed at all whatever you are interested in bjj, wrestling, thai, or boxing take that first step and let the staff at GCOM get you started.

Awesome gym. Friendly instructors and students. They are exceptional teachers and it is a great place to learn the mixed martial arts. Staff caters to all levels, from your first class to professional. It's a very inclusive group and they welcome any and all new comers. Fantastic work out, great schedule, and excellent all around.

Ground Control is awesome! I signed up on their website and was called later that day by Ryan. After talking with Ryan for a few minutes I could tell that he genuinely cared about his clients and their success. It can be intimidating to walk into a new gym and Ryan and the members immediately put me at ease. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. The class was structured well and had me hooked right off the bat. I highly recommend Ground Control!

Amazing gym, great instructors who are genuinely concerned with your progress, and really know their stuff. The people who train there are even awesome, never have I felt more welcome at a martial arts gym. Also very clean, always feel very comfortable on the mats.

I've been training here for four years and the experience has been fantastic. I went from being a complete novice in BJJ, older and certainly not particularly fit, to winning competitions across the nation and internationally. But the wonderful thing about Ground Control isn't just the quality of technical instruction, but the quality of people who train there. It is a positive family environment, the kids classes are great, and the supportive system in place makes for incredible improvements in your technique and fitness possible in short time. Jiu jitsu is an incredibly positive addition to your life, and there are no better instructors or teammates than the ones at Ground control Owings Mills.

GC Owings Mills is a great place. I walked in there with no prior experience in any form of mma. The coaches and other members were fantastic is showing me around and introducing me to new things. It's a very friendly environment where everyone around you will have your back and help you through things. I would definitely recommend this gym for anyone.

I was nervous about coming here being a woman and being completely new to Brazilian JiuJitsu, but all of the instructors are so welcoming and friendly! After my first BJJ class I knew I had to try the kickboxing too, and it was just as fun and challenging. Definitely sign up if you've been thinking about it!!!

Great location, plenty of space to practice and coaches are top notch! I have never felt more comfortable and at home than I do at this gym. What's best is that all coaches make sure one really gets things and does them correctly. They are very dedicated to the program and its members. I'm doing the women's self- defense program which includes kickboxing and jiu jitsu and I'm obsessed with it. Erin, our coach and our kickboxing coaches Ryan and Byron truly are amazing and make me feel comfortable. Above all, even though I don't have a lot of experience, I don't feel out of place and they make sure of that. Love my gym!

I've been training here since March of 2009 when it first opened and I can't say enough good things about this place. Great community, lots of mat space, high quality instruction and equipment. I've been to a lot of gyms and in terms of culture, quality, and helping you reach your goals, there is no place better.

Tried signing up. Showed up. Waited around for a half hour in the indicated area while no one said a word to me. Was scolded for not showing up.
