Rob and Guy were so welcoming when I walked into the academy and made me feel comfortable immediately. I learned a lot in the class (with gi) I had with Rob and I appreciated how elaborate he was while explaining the drills. It’s elevates the experience as an athlete when the coach will walk around and correct technique individually for students. Especially helpful for a white belt like me! Both the Pendergrass bros bring a lot of good energy to the gym which is the right amount of levity once you’re done choking someone out on the mat.

Both of my children attend classes at PAMA as well as my husband. My husband has been going for about 1.5 years and my kids ~10 months. The coaches are fantastic and very involved. I feel the kids really enjoy going and all that they have learned! The only con is that it is a little on the pricier side. However they do meet twice a week with an optionally Saturday roll as well! We love PAMA and constantly recommend it to friends interested in BJJ.

"I love this place!" - me, after 6 months of training bjj there. I've trained at different gyms due to moving for work and cross-training, and yes, I have been to gyms I haven't liked. There is a lot of experience on the mats at PAMA. Everyone really looks out for each others safety on the mats. You will improve your bjj and have fun if you attend classes.

PAMA is a great place for children to learn and become confident in their abilities. Professors Guy, Rob and Boo are great with kids and making everyone feel welcome. My 7 year old daughter has been attending PAMA for the last few months and she is usually very shy and timid. But after just her first class she was very excited to go back and do it again. I can’t say enough good things about PAMA and their great staff that are always eager to help.

I’ve had 2 sons at PAMA for a few years in jujitsu and kick boxing who are super excited to make every session possible. All the leaders from Guy to Rob to Boo to all the up and coming younger instructors are extremely focused on making it a fun but disciplined instruction time. You can’t forget about Ms. Sue who miraculously keeps all the wound up kids on track and ready for class. It’s a great learning environment and has a great ‘family’ feel. They host numerous secondary events throughout the year to bring in friends and family that would like to get introduced to BJJ or kick boxing. It’s a great place for youth of all ages to get exercise, learn focus, and have fun with their classmates. If I didn’t have a bum shoulder, I’d definitely be doing the adult classes.

If you’re looking for a gym that has a sense of community and commitment to each other; this is the right place for you. It was very quickly that I realized that after joining this gym. I’ve met so many amazing people, coaches and students alike. The coaches are very detail oriented and knowledgeable when teaching any form of martial art, whether it be professor Rob, Guy, Buu, Matt, Rob, and the list continues to go on of the amazing coaches. I truly have found my second family training with these people. We push each other in and out of class to be the best versions of ourselves possible, and for that I am truly grateful. Last but certainly not least this is the home of the very legendary and highly respected. Mrs. Sue. And she had truly been a blessing when it comes to communicating anything you would need from class times to needing to freeze payments due to unforeseen circumstances or sudden injury. Overall this gym leaves nothing to be desired and I would urge anyone who is even slightly interested in this sport to give Pendergrass a chance. Thank you for all you do guys !

I have studied at other studios and found Pendergrass to be second the none. They bring a wealth of knowledgeable instructors to the table. The comradery between everyone is great and everyone is always willing to answer any questions you may have allowing for everyone to grow in there knowledge of the arts and better themself as a person. If you are looking for a Academy to call home I 100% recommended Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts.

As an adult who’s never done anything like this before, I can tell you that the people here are warm and welcoming. From Sue helping me understand the logistics and paperwork to Guy Pendergrass coaching all my classes and personally helping me understand what I am doing, and why, the whole place is great. I attend the 6:15a adult classes that are not made for beginners, but it’s the only time that fits my schedule. All the people in there are more than willing to help you along the way and I don’t feel like a burden. The experienced guys want to teach me what they know and help coach along the way so you have many “coaches” in the class. I get a great workout first thing in the morning and am learning a skill that will serve me for life. My wife signed up for the self defense class and I’m looking into the summer camp for my kids. Great organization all around!

Approximately 9 months ago I decided to treat myself to Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ) after retiring from sitting behind a desk for 37 years. I’m a little seasoned with no prior grappling or wrestling experience so choosing the right Academy and culture was paramount. That said, I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional my experience has been at Pendergrass Academy of Marial Arts (PAMA). From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm, setting the tone for what has become an incredible journey. First and foremost, Professors Rob, Guy and Boo are unparalleled. Their expertise, passion, and dedication are evident in every class. Not only are they highly skilled practitioners, but they also possess the rare ability to effectively communicate complex techniques in a way that is accessible to students of all levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, the instructors at PAMA will meet you where you are on your journey. What truly sets PAMA apart is its incredible students and culture. The camaraderie and sense of community among the members are truly inspiring. Regardless of age, gender, or background, everyone is welcomed with open arms and treated like family. There is a genuine spirit of support and encouragement that permeates the Academy. For those interested in pursuing BJJ, I cannot recommend PAMA highly enough. Whether you're looking to learn self-defense, improve your physical fitness, or simply be a part of an amazing community, PAMA has it all.

Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts (PAMA) is the best in Raleigh! Before coming to Pendergrass, I visited all the academies in North Raleigh, Wake Forest, and even a few in downtown Raleigh. For me, PAMA was where I wanted to stay. Professors Rob and Guy, together with guest instructors and the more advanced students, provide top notch instruction. It is very uncommon to have a 3rd degree black belt teaching white belts, but at PAMA, there are two! The facilities are well kept, clean, and also top notch. Everyone from the front desk, to your fellow students, are simply “good people”. If you’re looking for a place to train, PAMA is it, whether you’re visiting or staying!

I can not say enough good things about the Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts. If you are looking for a program and want to feel like you are part of something, part of an amazing extended family, look no further. The instruction is outstanding and for the kiddos they learn so much more than just martial arts. This program includes teaching responsibility, being honest, trustworthy, and so much more. They also focus on the importance of hard work and that when you put in the work, anything is possible. Hard work pays off! I have 2 little guys who love coming to class each week. I would highly recommend PAMA to friends, family, neighbors, strangers, anyone who is curious...go try it out for yourself! You'll be glad you did!! My 9yr old- "it's great, you can learn self defense, each new technique is fun to learn and useful in real life situations. Kickboxing is fun too, the superman punch is my favorite." My 7yr old- "I love kickboxing, learning combinations and being able to put them together."

My son started at PAMA December 2022 and he’s has loved everyday he’s been attending PAMA. Professor’s Rob, Guy, and Boo are amazing! They work and push him to be his very best. They are fair with assessments and promoting the kids. They put on fun events for all the kids throughout the year, and their Parent Date Nights are a great option too. The PAMA curriculum is a solid foundation for the betterment of your child’s mindset. My son has a mild ADHD and impulsivity, and the last year at PAMA has helped him with control and his self-confidence. Recently, my son was promoted to the Elite class where he now does kickboxing and BJJ in back to back classes and he couldn’t be happier! The entire staff are wonderful and so helpful. PAMA has been a great place for me. I’ve been training here almost a year. I’ve trained at three other Raleigh gyms over the last 12 years and PAMA is by far my best experience. Rob and Guy keep up with bjj trends and teach modern sport-oriented bjj although there are self-defense oriented classes too if that’s your motivation. They have no gi classes too. They’re funny and play good music too, not that that’s why you choose a gym but it helps. The facilities are nice and clean. The culture is friendly. The club size is good - it’s big enough that you get a diversity of training partners but small enough that your instructors know you. There are several classes a day/week so it’s easy to find a time that works even when my schedule changes. They’re very good with the business side of things too. For example, they have auto payment options, they have an app with a lot of their own content, they have a gear store, they have a lot of events for kids and the community, and their communication is great. They always keep you informed of what’s going on via email and text. They’ll even text you if you don’t show up for a while and send you a card on your birthday, which is just above and beyond. There’s no drama or weird uncertainty that you get at some gyms. I only have good things to say.

This is a great to train both mind and body in the art of BJJ. The main instructors, Guy and Rob, are knowledge and care about their students. I was particularly impressed that they (and other instructors) already knew my name despite not having formally introduced myself to them. That’s a little thing, but it meant they want to know who is coming to their facility. As well, the other students, particularly the upper belts, are great training partners. In my experience, they know when to go hard and also when to help a beginner out. PAMA is an excellent place to train and to be a part of a community looking to improve themselves on and off the mats.

I like to get to know a school for a while before giving a review. That said, I've been training in PAMA's BJJ program for about a year now. I came to this school as a 2 stripe blue belt and have had training from several different places over the years. I can say honestly that the Pendergrass brothers have succeeded at creating and continuously cultivating an amazing environment for learning. You feel like family as soon as you walk in the door. And regardless of whether you've never trained before or have been training for decades, there is something here to learn and grow in for everyone. The instructors are patient, love what they do and can break down concepts in ways anyone can understand. The culture here at PAMA is consistently positive and inclusive. Classes are organized well and more experienced students (upper belts) are always willing to help those looking for guidance. If you're looking for a place to train, just stop by PAMA and see for yourself.

I've been training at PAMA for 6 months since moving to the area (I have been training Brazilian Jiujitsu about 20 years). The owners Guy and Rob are both great instructors as well as coaches. They are long time students and instructors in BJJ and their experience shows. They welcomed me to the team and I feel at home training there. And even after training so many years, I still pick up new techniques almost every class. There is a wide range of students of various abilities and training time so you'll be able to find suitable training partners. The gym is clean and professionally run.

My daughter Ellanore has been going to PAMA for a little over a year. We are extremely proud of her hard work and dedication that is fueled by outstanding hard working Professors and storm team members. We are extremely blessed to be apart of the BJJ family and PAMA family. From the time we walked in for our first visit, up until now, they have never made us feel anything less then welcomed, loved and appreciated. We are great full for everyone who is there!

My daughter absolutely loves going to her Jui-Jitsu classes at PAMA. When I first called about a two week trial I had to leave a message. Sue called me back and spent time talking to me even though they were closing and it was late. Sue is great! She got us started with a great deal and on a day that fit our schedule. The Professors and coaches keep it fun but focused. I've never seen my daughter pay attention so well! I highly recommend PAMA and can't wait for my son to turn 4 so that he can join the PAMA family!

PAMA has been more than we ever expected from a school. The instructors are fantastic - not only when training BJJ, but in building confidence and character within their youth programs. The impact it has had for our 10 year-old son has literally been life changing for him. He has developed a passion for the sport, a place where he feels he belongs, new friends and a stronger work ethic within months of starting the youth program. Teachers, students and staff are all great people. The culture is very much a family environment. We can't recommend them enough!

My son had trained at Pendergrass Academy for over 4 years. The instructors and coaches are very knowledgeable and amazing at what they do. There is so much experience at this academy! Whether you are looking for fitness, self defense or just a way to stay fit and make new friends , this is the best place in the Raleigh area!!

While visiting my cousin in Raleigh, we dropped in for a beginner's class. I train in Virginia Beach, but this was my cousin's first time. The facility was beautiful and friendly. Professor Boo showed some great techniques and everyone was really good to us. Thank you so much. I'll surely come by anytime I am around.

I've been training BJJ for ten years, and have dropped in at multiple gyms in over 20 US States. Pendergrass academy is top-notch. Their facility is immaculate, they have showers, ample changing space, and professional staff. Moreover, they have a robust BJJ program. I took a class led my professor Guy and he improved my closed-guard game a good deal. They have an ideal range of students that can offera challenge to any newcomer and seasoned pro. This is now my go-to spot in Raleigh. Thanks y'all!

As a frequent traveler, I rarely find an academy that has everything I'm looking for. Pendergrass Academy checked all the boxes for a great experience, professionalism, cleanliness, courtesy and most importantly quality instruction! From the moment I walked through the doors, their friendly staff greeted me and gave me a brief tour of their fantastic facility which included two separate mat areas, lockers, showers, bathrooms and even sitting areas for spectators. The professors took the time to shake my hand and introduce themselves. The folks training were also free of ego and welcomed me as one of their own. I can't say enough great things about Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts!

I’ve heard good things about Pendergrass Academy for years now. I flew into Raleigh airport and didn’t want to sit in traffic so I stopped in here for a class. The facility is beautiful! With all the amenities you’d want to find at an academy (they even have coffee available in the lobby!) Everything there exceptionally CLEAN, especially the mats, something that is paramount to see when you’re dropping in for a class. The group of students there were all friendly, the instructor was knowledgeable that all made for an informative and enjoyable class. I’d definitely recommend this place for the first time to martial arts individual or a seasoned practitioner.
