My 9 year old son has been attending these classes for 3 months, I’m happy to say that he feels happy in this environment and can’t wait to do jujitsu, He absolutely loves it and can’t wait to get his badges and stripes!
This is a great experience I recommend anyone interested to join. The instructors are very welcoming and help you build your confidence on and off the mat.
Little boy goes to tiny champs @ Gracie bar every week. Loves the structure, free play, activity. All the teachers are super friendly and great with the kids. Lots of teachers to kids ratio which helps the kids feel supported and seen. One of my little boys fave activities!
Our 7 year old son has been attending Gracie Barra Roundhay for nearly a year. He absolutely loves it and is enjoying earning his badges and stripes. Highly recommend!
Gracie Barra Roundhay is absolutely phenomenal! My son has been training in their kids' program, and the coaches strike the perfect balance of discipline, skill-building, and making it fun. Seeing his progress and how much he loves the environment is what finally got me to join the adult classes.
The instruction is top-notch and tailored perfectly to all levels, though the coaching staff are completely unanimous in their verdict that my son is already far better at Jiu-Jitsu than I am! Honestly, the best part about this gym is the community. It truly feels like a family. There are no egos on the mats—everyone from the coaches to the higher belts is supportive, welcoming, and genuinely wants to see you improve. If you are looking for a fantastic workout and a brilliant environment for both kids and adults, I can't recommend GB Roundhay enough!
Signed 2 of my boys up at Gracie Barra recently (Aged 4 and 5 1/2). From my initial enquiry a few months ago where I just spontaneously walked in to the studio to seeing their pop up at Moortown Park, right to this current day; the staff have all been very helpful, friendly, supportive and attentive. A real community feel to the place.
Special shout out to James who I have communicated mostly with. Keep up the good work.
Thank-You for being so warm and welcoming to you and the rest of the team.
Here’s to my boys’ onwards jiu jitsu journey!
I regularly train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and, whenever I’m travelling around the country, I like to drop into local academies to keep my training going. Gracie Barra Roundhay was one of the most welcoming schools I’ve visited.
From the moment I arrived, the coaches and the whole team made me feel like I’d been training there for years. Everyone was friendly, approachable, and happy to help, creating a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the mats.
The instruction was excellent, the training was high quality, and the culture of the academy really stood out. If you’re looking for a great place to train—whether you’re a complete beginner, a regular student, or just dropping in while travelling—I can’t recommend Gracie Barra Roundhay highly enough. Thanks again for making me feel so welcome. I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m in the area!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My son started training at Gracie Barra a few years ago, and the experience was so positive that I joined the adult classes myself a year ago.
What really sets this gym apart is the incredible culture that Prof Mike and the team have built. They've created a genuine family and community environment where everyone is welcomed, supported, and made to feel part of the team from day one. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and the atmosphere is inclusive across all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
The children's programme is outstanding, not only teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also instilling important values such as respect, discipline, confidence, and resilience. What makes it even more impressive is that Prof Mike and the coaching team genuinely embody the values they teach. They lead by example both on and off the mats.
Whether you're looking for a martial art for your child, a way to improve your fitness, or a supportive community to be part of, I couldn't recommend Gracie Barra highly enough. Joining has been one of the best decisions for both my son and me.
I’ve been training at Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds since October 2025 and it has been a fantastic experience from day one.
The Community & Atmosphere
As soon as I started, the coaches and fellow students made me feel incredibly welcome. There is a genuine sense of community here and a great training atmosphere that balances hard work with mutual respect. To see the energy for yourself, check out their Youtube Channel @GB_Roundhay_Leeds - - - > Gracie Barra Warm Up video, it gives a great feel for how organized the classes are!
World-Class Infrastructure & Recovery
The facilities are some of the best I've seen in a BJJ academy. They’ve clearly thought about the athlete's whole experience:
Recovery Suite: Having access to an Ice Bath and Infrared Sauna on-site is a total game-changer for recovery after a hard session.
Amenities: Clean, dedicated men’s and women’s dressing rooms with showers and toilets.
Family Friendly: A lovely book area and a kids' colouring station, which is great for parents.
Convenience: There is a mini BJJ shop for gear, a snack shop for post-training fuel, and even a mini gym available for members.
Special Events & Seminars
A major highlight is the access to world-class talent. The academy frequently hosts seminars with BJJ legends and world champions like Roger Gracie and Victor Estima. Beyond the mats, the club is very social, with regular get-together events that help build a real team bond outside of training hours.
Programs for All Ages
What stands out is how inclusive the academy is. They have a fantastic Little Champions curriculum that starts for kids as young as 3–4 years old. It’s a brilliant, structured way for children to build confidence and coordination in a safe environment.
Flexible Schedule & Training
The timetable is brilliant for anyone with a busy life. They offer plenty of Gi and No-Gi options, with classes running from 6:30 AM all the way until 9:15 PM. On top of the daily sessions, the coaches host fantastic seminars at the end of every month (often on Sundays), which are perfect for deep-diving into specific techniques.
Whether you are looking for elite-level Jiu-Jitsu or just a welcoming place to get fit and meet great people, I can't recommend GB Roundhay enough! OSS!
We can’t recommend Gracie Barra enough! Our daughter struggles with shyness and the staff, other parents and children couldn’t have been more welcoming, encouraging and inclusive. In as little as a number of weeks we have seen a huge step change in her confidence, and both her (6yo) and her brother (4yo) love their lessons. There’s a real community feel and the facilities are great. The principles and skills taught are invaluable. Just can’t speak highly enough of it all!
Absolutely love training at Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds! Been here over a year now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. The coaching is top notch, and the team is like a second family, whether on the mats, at socials, or in the group chat where everyone shares tips and advice. It’s a proper community, and I only wish I’d joined sooner. Loving every step of my journey and excited to keep progressing. If you’re thinking about it, just do it, you won’t regret it!
My son has recently joined the Gracie Barra community and has enjoyed every session. At 3 yrs old I was worried that he would get distracted or lose interest but he is always so excited to get his kit on and get stuck in. He loves showing his family the moves he has learnt too. I have also seen a change in him personally - following instruction and the art of self discipline. I’m sure he will continue to have fun with the amazing coaches and his new friends! Would highly recommend to all interested in their children learning a new and important skill.
I have been training at GBRL for almost two years and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From day one the experience has been superb. The coaching, facilities and community are excellent. What has been built here is remarkable. It matters not if you have never done anything like this before or if you have trained in other martial arts for years, there is an enormous amount for you here and it is a great group of people to be around. If you are even a little curious, I suggest you come and see for yourself!
What a fantastic place! I’ve been a member here for a little over a year and really enjoy attending. It is good exercise but learning something new and challenging is good for the grey matter too.
It’s a really supportive environment to learn in and all the couches and other students are really encouraging. Everyone looks out for each other on and off the mats creating a feeling of community that’s all too unusual in today’s world.
It’s not cheap but considering the quality of the facility, the number of classes available and the use of the gym room, I think it’s good value for money.
