Amazing instruction and people. The atmosphere was super welcoming. If you're in Ogden or SLC, this is the only BJJ gym you need to go to.

I was in town for vacation and I dropped-in to West Side BJJ Ogden for an open mat session. The crew was very welcoming and I had a number of rolls with every level of experience. If I'm in Ogden again, I will definitely swing by for another training session! Thank you!

I started jiu jitsu with Mark in 2007. The atmosphere at this school is unlike any other I've been to. Mark is an incredible personality who attracts good people to him. The academy is immensely welcoming and friendly. I've met so many people here over the years and consider them all family. There's no better place to learn jiu jitsu in the area. West Side will always be home to me.

This place is so great, I haven't practiced Jiu-Jitsu at any other places so I have nothing to compare it to, but I won't be looking either because this place makes me so comfortable as someone brand new to Jiu-Jitsu, lots of knowledgeable guys who understand everyone had to start from scratch and they will walk you through things at your pace, I didn't know how to get a hold of Mark originally but when I looked them up on Facebook it was easy to figure out a time to go in and get started

I stopped in for my first ever jiu jitsu class with Mark. West Side went above and beyond and what I appreciated the most is that he didn’t say “take it easy on her since she’s a girl” he legitimately told everyone to roll with me the same they would with the other men. It was also highly informative and would recommend Westside to everyone who wants to get seriously active!

My wife and I have been bringing our 3 kids to West Side Jiu Jitsu for about 6 months now. The instructors are awesome with all of the kids, they get the kids engaged in healthy exercise and the workout gets them sweaty and tired. Mark is an awesome teacher and I cannot say enough about how great this place is. Bring your kids or your adults there are classes for all ages and abilities.

I mainly train judo but when i want to push my ground work and my submissions this is my go to place!! Everyone is super friendly and willing to help out any way they can! Not to mention there are some super technical killers in the gym!!

Both BJJ and Aikido offer kids classes. All instructors are very knowledgeable in their art and create a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere for learning. My daughter has been training at West Side for 7 years, she started when she was 6. The atmosphere has always been relaxed and supportive. The instructors are so much fun and extremely patient. My daughter is pretty shy and has gained confidence through jiu-jitsu. And as a parent I feel better knowing that she has developed self-defense skills. I highly recommend the kids class!!

I've trained at 20+ martial arts gyms over the past couple of decades and I've got to say that West Side Jiu Jitsu is one of the best. The head instructor Mark is a very clear teacher with a lot of knowledge and one of the friendliest personalities. His teaching is reflected in his students, who are all very welcoming and friendly, and also skilled and hard workers. Great place to learn Jiu Jitsu, and a great place to help prep for competition.

I'm not sure what to saw about this place. You go here thinking you just wanna see what this jiujitsu stuff is all about. You then start seeing that it's so much more than jiujitsu. You meet incredible people here. You gain an amazing mentor in Mark Johnson. You'll even get talked into yoga, or some weird challenge, rolling on holidays, helping people move their furniture, going out for beers, buying a giant skateboard, and 100s of other things that you'll truly love. I moved 2400 miles away and miss this place/people every damn day. So, if you don't want to do something life changing, stay home. But, if you want to be part of something amazing, go to Westside.

My 10yo daughter is a student of Westside and we LOVE it! My older kids have attended other MMA classes and I've NEVER experienced the level of instruction both one on one and classroom as whole like I have here. I highly recommend all levels and ages to attend. My husband is in the Army, and at his last drill had an instructor come teach his unit Jiu Jitsu in Draper, and even his instructor knew and highly recommends Mark. Can't say enough good things.

Mark and his other Jiu Jitsu Coaches are very good at teaching. They will show you every move until you get it. They also give you hands on demonstrations and 1 on 1 coaching. This is a legit Jiu Jitsu gym, Mark is a Pedro Sauer Black Belt. The other students are always welcoming and kind. Classes are priced very well. Other Jiu Jitsu gyms cost $20-$50 more as well.
