I would recommend the AWARE Self Defense Program to anyone looking to learn practical self-defense skills. Heath and Jeanine are highly skilled and knowledgeable, and they create a supportive and welcoming learning environment. One of the things I appreciate about the course is the emphasis on real-world scenarios. The instructors truly help you to develop the mindset and skills necessary for a variety of situations. Highly recommend!
Posted 2 years agoThe AWARE class was a really great experience! The instructors, Heath and Jeanine were knowledgeable and made the class fun and interesting. They helped me gain insight into how to be alert and aware of my surroundings and taught me how to avoid physical situations before they happen. This class would be beneficial for everyone! Highly recommend!
Posted 2 years agoMr. Heath Waterman has been teaching a self defense class for many years during my physical education classes at Sauquoit Valley Elementary School and he is wonderful! His expertise, methods, conversations with students are exactly what we were looking for and have been so happy with him over the years! I love that his main focus is teaching awareness and avoidance to young students and I would highly recommend taking classes from him!
Posted 4 years agoWhen asked what he likes about the dojo, my 9-year-old said “ Sensei is really helpful, trustworthy, understanding and kind. I like how you can level up when you are ready but aren’t forced to. And there are a lot of events.” As a parent, I can tell you a few more reasons why we love Waterman’s. First off, his tuition rates are extremely reasonable, making learning accessible to many. Sensei has a way of getting everyone’s respect and attention. Classes are very engaging, and it doesn’t feel like my child is just getting pushed through quickly just to get a belt. He WANTS to earn it. Class is heavily focused on self-defense, which seems crucial in this world we are living in. Karate is a great alternative to many other sports in that although we are a supportive group, it is also an individual sport. A child has to put in the focus and hard-work to get what they want out of it. My child is at times very serious and he loves that he can have fun at karate but then then can also spend the class having focus and full control over himself. I honestly think any personality and energy-level would benefit from Waterman’s Martial Arts.
