Posted 1 year agoOur boys are thoroughly enjoying the BJJ classes here with Coach Washington Luis. He is great with the kids in class, encouraging them, motivating them and challenging them. He is kind and patient while also maintaining discipline and structure. His personal achievements in BJJ are incredibly impressive, yet he is very down to earth and humble. We’ve loved our experience so far and are looking forward to seeing our boys progress in their classes. 😄
Posted 1 year agoI travel for work and a lot of my training now is dropping into BJJ schools. As someone who’s trained consistently for over 7 years and have visited quite a few academies this one ranks towards the top. I watched Professor Luis pay attention and provide detail to students of all levels, from the senior students all the way down to the 2 trial class students. He was constantly motivating and keeping students engaged. When rolling with him he could have easily highlight reeled me, but he moved at a speed that constantly made me create space to escape and fight out just to fall into another trapped position. It was a humbling, but fun experience. If you’re trying it out for the first time, it’s a great first time experience. If you’re dropping in, it’s a very easy and fun experience. I definitely recommend it and will be back when work sends me this way again.
Posted 1 year agoWe were in town, visiting friends, who are students of Professor Washington. We decided to drop-in in one of his classes. Professor Washington welcomed us as if we were his own students. Great teaching from a world class athlete, and very humble too. If we lived in Houston, our family would gladly enroll in his academy.

Coach Washington is an amazing coach and provides an enjoyable family-friendly experience for everyone. He's very patient and kind, and if you're considering starting your kids on Jiu-jitsu or even just trying it out yourself for the first time, I highly recommend him.
Coach Washington is a phenomenal jiujitsu instructor - not only is he a World Champion who is obviously a jiujitsu wizard, he *teaches* it well too. You can tell that he loves this sport to the core and truly wants the best for his students. Houston is very lucky to have Coach Washington; If you, your kids, or your whole family have been thinking about jiujitsu, look no further, train with him!
It's amazing that Professor Washington isn't as well known in the city of Houston as he should be! He's a jiu jitsu genius of elephantine proportions! A giant in the game and an amazing warm hearted person who cares! What a guy! What an academy!

I live near Galveston and probably pass by over 6 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies to get to AWLBJJ in Pasadena, not including the academies on the island, close to me a little further south, and it's worth it and then some. Professor Washington Luis is second to none when it comes to passion for teaching and it shows in the skills of all the students. I came back from a terrible knee injury and he made sure that not only was I welcomed to the team, but that I would be safe in my recovery while training and today, I'm fully healed up and training full time again. I couldn't imagine training anywhere else. I recommend this academy to anyone from small children, ladies, young adults, and older people like myself. There is not a single person that won't be welcomed immediately. You'll love the culture and the strong team bond. And the training is very legit and rigorous. He will push you, but you need that to be good. He's not a "yes man". You will learn the most effective Jiu-Jitsu skills and be in great shape to cultivate that into reality.

I absolutely love this gym. My daughter does not attend but we met Professor Washington, Coaches and students at a tournament about a year ago and they invited my daughter to come train for a day. Super friendly, humble, and amazing people here at this gym. I just wish they were closer to home so we could come by more often. I highly recommend checking them out ❤️

This is my second visit to Washington Luis BJJ! I witnessed their kids program before the adults class. It's a riot of energy, respect, and focused learning. I started learning BJJ with Washington 4 months ago. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it. Several years back I was introduced to some BJJ basics but didn’t practice for years due to a back injury. I thought I would never be able to do Jiujitsu again, but Washington changed it. He taught me techniques and showed me how to do Jiujitsu safely. I can even spar now. He also puts Jiujitsu moves in real life self-defense situations and teaches the sport in a very practical way. He is a true master in both practicing and teaching the art. I highly recommend him. Try Jiujitsu with Washington. You’ll be glad you did.

Professor Washington is a world renown BJJ practitioner. Despite all his achievements, he's still incredibly humble and treats everyone kindly.
