Great students, great coaches, great atmosphere, great vibe, great location, great price
I highly recommend Gracie UA. Wonderful community and instructors welcomed me as a novice- very congenial atmosphere. Nice blend of self-defense and BJJ technique. I’m very pleased with the personalized attention I receive from the instructors and higher belts. Everyone in the room wants everyone else to succeed, lending to a super-collaborative mood. NoGi grappling also accessible here.
Dave has a great place on Indianola. Jiu jitsu for all sizes and helps you modify to your skill level and body type. Very friendly and open environment, good gangster rap for open mat. Highly recommend!
Started coming here for the women’s self defense class. Loved it so much I also started doing jiu jitsu! The instructors and members are all encouraging, positive, and friendly. Very glad I tried a class.
I am so glad I finally started the women’s self defense classes at UA Jiu Jitsu! As a college student, it is a practical way to build physical/mental confidence and increase awareness of vulnerable situations that may lead to assault or other threatening situations. The class members are supportive and the instructor ensures that everyone has a safe and fun time which encourages comradery. I highly recommend giving this place a try!
I HIGHLY recommend UA Jiu Jitsu in Clintonville (Columbus), Ohio! The women's self defense class taught by Dave on Thursday evenings is outstanding. His instruction is excellent and the class environment is friendly and welcoming to all levels of experience including beginners or those more advanced. I highly encourage all women to try this class!
This gym is amazing, I have been coming for about 5 months now and have loved the experience. Coaches are fun and very knowledgeable and the community is great, it’s awesome training in a place so supportive and eager to help everyone grow. Will absolutely keep coming in the future 👍
One of the friendliest and best BJJ communities in Columbus!
I take a women's self defense class here. The class is practical, it is inclusive. The instructor is mindful, keeps even an awkward anxious person like myself at ease. The methods taught are diverse, safety and consent are a prioritized. It is an excellent class I feel stronger, safer and more confident due to it.
Super laid back environment with great coaching and top notch jiu jitsu. You will make friends and learn self defense skills all while getting a heck of a workout. Can’t recommend enough.
This place great! I’ve been training for about a month now and love it. The instructors are very knowledgeable and super nice dudes, not to mention patient with the new students like myself. At first I was very intimidated by the idea of starting Jiu Jitsu. But that quickly went away after my few classes. Everyone is super nice and inviting. No egos or meatheads here. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn Jiu Jitsu, try UA!
I've been a member of this school for 2 years. Everyone is very welcoming, and they have a strong culture of respect. No one I've encountered has a bad attitude or rolls with the intention to harm others. It's a great place to learn the art of bjj on your own personal time frame.
A great place to learn and train jiu jitsu! The instructors are caring about your progress and everyone is very friendly!
Highly recommend this place! I've been training here for about 3 months now and its been an awesome experience. The instructors are great and so is the overall atmosphere.
Awesome place to train BJJ.
Couldn’t ask for a better group of people to train with! I’ve been training for about three months and have been very happy with how encouraging, welcoming and helpful the instructors and other students have been. As somebody who was a bit intimidated to get started, I couldn’t have asked for a more seamless transition.
Great teachers, with the information presented in a very accessible way. Class times accommodate a variety of schedules.
Solid BJJ training with great instructors in a positive atmosphere where everyone has a chance to learn and thrive. Highly recommended.
I would recommend the women's self defense class here to everybody I know. The teacher (and other students) creates an incredibly welcoming and supportive environment and is skilled without being intimidating. So glad I found this place!
I’ve been training at Gracie UA for almost 2 months now after a very long time away from BJJ. The instructions are very thorough and gives instructions when you’re not doing something correct or will help if you have questions. Great atmosphere to train and a great group of people! Love going to train and learn as everyone is helpful!
I've been training here for 3ish years and absolutely love it. The instruction is top-notch, there is always a wide range of talent in the room, and the folks all fun to roll with. As an smaller female white belt it's important to feel safe and comfortable and I certainly do training here. I would highly recommend giving the place a try, if you are just starting you'll be in great hands and if you are a higher belt you'll find a lot of great rolls and instruction.
This is a great place to train. The instructors are knowledgeable and create a great learning environment. Also, the class sizes are not too big so you get a lot of personal instruction. Great place to start your journey and the first class is free, so if you are new and want to try it out or get a feel for the place you get that opportunity.
Best Jiu Jitsu in Columbus
This place is fantastic. I’ve trained at various places around the country and you can’t beat the atmosphere here. It truly offers something for everyone. If you’re a competitor, you’ll get competitive rolls and instruction. If you’re a hobbyist just looking to learn, you won’t feel overwhelmed. You’ll get self-defense instruction, old and new school jiu jitsu, wrestling, and a dose of fighting philosophy. It’s also a smaller environment which means more individual attention to students. I consistently hear people talk about how friendly the environment is here, and I’m not sure I would have continued my jiu jitsu training if I hadn’t felt the same way.
Excellent place to train jiu jitsu. Lots of knowledge from the black belt instructors. Each instructor has a different style and insights to the various techniques and positions. Great place to learn self defense as well. There is also a very good women's self defense class taught on Thursdays by Dave.
Amazing place. I recently joined Gracie UA and have fallen in love with BJJ. Everyone here is friendly and helpful and the instructors are great. The instructors at Gracie UA are simply fantastic. There is a different instructor each day of the week. Each instructor has a different background and style and focus on different things from wrestling and take downs to more vale-tudo/self deference. At Gracie UA the classes are usually not too big or too small which means you have a LOT of one-on-one time with the instructors. When I first walked in the doors I had never trained any type of grappling, but the instructors (and students) were and are very, very patient with me going over every technique and position. During a normal calls while drilling new techniques the instructors will go around and correct any mistake as well as give out pointers. Everyone who trains at Gracie UA is very friendly. There are students with many backgrounds including wrestling, judo, muay thai and even traditional jujitsu which all bring something different to the table. When we spar the more advanced students always give new students pointers and also let them try out things they are learning. Over all the atmosphere is very relaxed, but in the end it's all about learning and getting better. The facilities themselves are good, just what you need to train. Although basic, the gym is always kept clean and it's never too cold or too hot. The restrooms are always clean and well kept. I always look forward to training at Gracie UA. It's fun, it's a great work out and I've learned so much.
Fantastic instructors teach you moves and mindsets that will help keep you safe for the rest of your life. Couldn’t recommend more. They also play great music.
I would love to try this
Been training here for a good long while now and can only recommend that you try it out! Everyone is open to helping you out when needed, the class times are great, and the quality and level of instruction are through the roof!
