  I’ve had the privilege of knowing Tyson Kilbey for many years, both as a mentor and as a friend, and I can confidently say he is one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected individuals in both the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and law enforcement communities. Tyson is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Royce Gracie, and his expertise in the art is second to none. He doesn’t just teach techniques, he instills confidence, discipline, and a deep understanding of self-defense that goes far beyond the mats. When I first started teaching Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics, Tyson was an invaluable mentor. He helped guide me through the process, sharing his wisdom, experience, and passion for ensuring officers are properly trained to protect themselves and others. His ability to break down complex techniques and make them practical for real-world scenarios is something that sets him apart. Beyond his skill set, Tyson is a phenomenal instructor and leader. He runs an outstanding Jiu-Jitsu gym, creating an environment where both beginners and experienced practitioners thrive. Whether you’re a first-day white belt or a seasoned martial artist, Tyson has a way of making everyone feel welcome while pushing them to improve. His dedication to the art and his students is truly inspiring. In the law enforcement community, Tyson’s reputation speaks for itself.   Had the pleasure of attending a women's self-defense class led by Tyson and Wendy, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! They were not only knowledgeable and professional but also incredibly approachable, making everyone feel comfortable and confident. Their teaching style was clear and engaging, and they provided practical techniques that we can all use in real-life situations. I left the class feeling empowered and better prepared to protect myself. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to learn self-defense in a supportive, safe environment!

  Tyson Kilbey Jiu-jitsu is THE place to train. Whether you are looking for self-defense, basic knowledge and development, competition training, of wanting your kids involved in a martial art. This is where it is at!! I have trained for several years with Mr. Kilbey and have not met a better trainer. I have followed him to several gyms and am very excited to see him go out on his own! I have also participated in co-ed and women's classes, as well as helping out in kids classes and have not seen someone so talented as to jump from one audience to the next and nail the coaching needed for each. If you have been thinking about getting involved and started to train this is the best atmosphere to get started!

  Tyson has the best Jiu Jitsu classes in the KC area. I’ve been training under him for almost 5 years, and I recommend his school to all those interested in learning all aspects of Jiu Jitsu. He is absolutely incredible. Whether you’re interested in sport, self defense, getting or staying in shape, or just wanting to try something new, Tyson teaches in a way that is relatable to all interested in Jiu Jitsu. Whether you’ve never been on a mat or if you’ve been training your whole life, Tyson will be able to take you where you want to go with this art.
