I have never felt more welcomed in any kind of gym. Tribe is so much more than a place to train, it is a community that welcomes everyone from all experience levels. The owner and coaches are mentors as well as great role models for the people around them. I was looking for a safe place to push myself mentally and physically and found a home at Tribe. Keep up the great work! If you are even remotely curious or think it sounds cool but don’t feel like you are in any kind of shape to train/learn, stop by, you won’t regret it. I am a disabled vet who thought that any kind of atheletic training was out of my grasp. Tribe has shown me that jiujitsu affords accommodations for all types of body sizes, shapes, ages etc.
Posted 9 months agoWe can’t say enough great things about this Tribe. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the positive energy and welcoming vibe. The owners and coaches, most especially Professor Carl and coach Nick are not only highly skilled, but they are super friendly and treats everybody like they are part of a family. Me and Gary are all about the vibe, a true family jiujitsu vibe. Everyone encourages one another, and it genuinely feels like a supportive community rather than just a place to train. Kids, teens, and adults all find a place here to grow, learn, and build confidence. Unfortunately, our time in AK came to an due to the military, but we really enjoyed our time training at Tribe. I know for a fact that we will always have a BJJ family to come back to if we ever visit or come back to Fairbanks. So, if you’re looking for a martial arts school with great instruction, amazing people, and an environment that feels like family, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!
Posted 9 months agoTribe is beyond wonderful! My son is autistic and has a constant battle with confidence. We started Tribe just to see if this was something that would work for him and because of the coaches working closely with him and going out of their way to assure his confidence was not affected in anyway, my son started breaking out of his shell and knew it was a safe place to be himself. Here your kids will grow physically strong, understand respect for not just themselves but for others, and learn how to truly defend themselves. These coaches are so amazing and make the entire experience fun and worth it!! Your kiddo will truly thrive here at Tribe and build true meaningful relationships.
Posted 9 months agoTribe was exactly what we needed when we uprooted our family from Texas to Fairbanks. We had no family in the area but we were determined to keep our life as together. Each coach had been so impactful to my son, the manager/head coach was so professional. He was so patient and kind with my son. They are always so intentional with how the kids are treated and taught. We only changed building because we moved to Wasilla. I wish they were closer. The owner and his wife are such genuinely kind people too. All of th have such big hearts.
Posted 9 months agoMy 5 year old daughter has attended tribe for about a year and it has been such a great experience. The atmosphere is always so welcoming and relaxed that you feel right at home. The welcoming atmosphere doesn’t take away from the discipline they teach and attention they give to your progress. It’s a perfect balance. My daughter fiddles and moves around a lot but they are patient and work with the kids so they can retain what they are teaching them. My daughter at 5 held her own during an in house competition against 3 boys her size and kept a smile on her face the whole time. That speaks volumes to the teaching of tribe and I am so happy that we’ve had the opportunity to train there. If you’re on the fence about where to go, tribe is it.
Posted 9 months agoAmazing people! That Creed kid is too good at jiu-jitsu.
The best way to better your life is to surround yourself with a healthy circle and nothing better than a no dbag dojo. Bjj teaches u the most critical aspect of surviving any of life’s struggles, breathing. I’ve been to some bad dojos where the emphasis was beating the snot out of each other and you’re not gonna have that here. Just keep coming, it’s all about learning, helping support each other, making the world a better place. Best part about bjj FREE HUGS! Also do the yoga class, so many people over look it thinking yoga meh but I can’t emphasize how critically important it is for each persons longevity, wish there was more of it and the instructor is really great guy.
I really love training here. All the coaches are very knowledgeable and helpful. My children are in the kids class and have grown and learned so much in this past year. But I think what makes this place stand out from other gyms is how welcoming they are, you really do feel like you’re apart of a big family. So whether you are someone who has been training for years, or someone who has never done it before, I highly recommend coming to Tribe!
I've been training at Tribe BJJ for just over 2 years. Professor Carl is a wealth of knowledge and genuinely one of the most beautiful individuals you will ever meet. He deeply cares about the experiences of his students. Tribe is a family atmosphere because of the family that runs it. Coach Nik went from a complete stranger to a trusted friend and mentor on the mats. Tribe will keep egos in check but never at the expense of safety. This is not the kill chamber gyms that take liberties with inexperienced people. This is a place that helps you achieve your goals (be it fitness, self defense, discipline, community, or to be one of the next great fighters in MMA). All levels are welcome and all levels have something to offer or gain. Tribe is partnered with We Defy to help disabled veterans gain resilience through the art of Jui Jitsu. It's become my home away from home.
One of the most wonderful martial arts schools I've ever been to. All of the instructors are great and the atmosphere is very welcoming and family friendly.
Visiting from out of town. The team here was so helpful to keep my son on the mat during our vacation. I would recommend the evening classes. Enough levels in the class makeup to keep anyone active and improving their skills. Great trainers.
The coaches here are spectacular. They are helping my son learn to take care of himself, but are incredibly understanding and patient. They're also sociable and want to make sure you know they have your child's best interests in mind when helping educate.
I will definitely say if you truly want a work out with Tribe BJJ..then go and rest their program out. I did my first free class of BJJ last year in December 2023 and I had fun, Coach Carl was excellent, his aura was immaculate. I don't remember the moves he showed back in December but I did receive a great workout and they are supportive and want to see the students succeed. Today, September 16th, 2024 I invited my coworker to come with me, we both did the free class of boxing with Coach Nick and I have got to tell you, it was an intense workout for me personally, for myself, I was feeling great after class and Coach Nick said I done great, but in my opinion, being out of shape, it really kicked my behind. Overall, I love going to Tribe BJJ cause they offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing, I sure did feel the workout afterwards and still feeling it writing this post. Coach Nick and Coach Carl, keep up the great work teaching future generations the skills of self defense and BJJ and Kickboxing.
The coaching team here is so friendly, knowledgeable and patient. They are wonderful with children. There is a range of classes for different skills levels available so it’s not so intimidating as a beginner but room to advance as one improves.
Very good place with plenty of classes and great instructors.
Definitely an amazing gym, great atmosphere , coaches and cleanliness. This gym is very welcoming and friendly. Hands down a 5/5
I had a great intro session and signed up for more!! Lots of fun, a good workout and I am learning new skills. Thanks
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome class. Loved it.
This is a amazing place to try out ju jitsu I have tried other places but they don’t teach nearly as well I feel like I already got some of the fundamentals down and I’ve been going for less then a month. The teachers are also very patient and are willing to show and help you multiple times when you don’t understand certain moves. 5/5 will continue to be going to this place.
We just had our first class and it was amazing!! Just signed us up and I'm so stoked!!
Tribe is great! The kids and I love it. Very family friendly. High quality instructions. Lots of options for different classes at different times.
I'm so happy to have found Tribe! The kid's classes and anti-bullying workshops are great, as is the Women's Self Defense class. We feel safe here.
My son had an absolutely phenomenal experience with tribe ! Glad to be a part of the team officially now !!
Tribe has been a great place for my kids to learn the new skill of Brazilian Jiujitsu. They enjoy it and look forward to coming to class. Instructors are great! Highly recommend
Welcoming atmosphere with a flexible schedule and a diversity in combat sports. Coach Nick is a fantastic instructor who tailors his teaching style based on his audience, whether he is teaching an adult class or a children's class, he will help his students understand the lesson.
We recently started my son with tribe and they have been great with training and working with the kids. My child looks forward to every class !
This is a great place to learn Jiujitsu/Boxing I personally know the instructors, very safe and comfortable environment for kids or anyone at any level of their martial art skills .
Tribe has been very welcoming with my son and he looks forward to every class !
Our youngest has a very hard time participating without us in clubs and sports. Tribe was no exception but within 10 minutes on his first day in class he was running around with a huge smile and now counts down the days to the next class. Coach Nick and Coach Carl are fantastic. Very well priced and I love the flexible schedule for my 6 and 12 year old
I was visiting on my way through Alaska and in Training for the World Masters. (Which I took a Gold in my Open Division) I had a great welcome from everybody and was very Impressed with high level of skills from everyone I rolled with. Carl is an excellent Instructor and I had a great roll with him. If you are visiting or Live in the area please make this your go to Club.
Incredibly welcoming, very good communicators on and off the mats.
I had a very warm welcome, and had a great time rolling with everyone there. Highly recommend.
Love it, became a member and love the class room schedule
Super awesome atmosphere! The instructor and other people attending all introduced themselves before class and helped me calm my nerves about my first class. Good feedback and reassurance throughout the lessons and overall just good fun and a great experience! I hope to come back again soon!
Defamation accused of bullying even though son was being called names prior and he stood for himself and made a remark. Girl didn’t didn’t get in trouble because she’s the owners daughter and son got membership cancellation without any explanation or resolutions to be resolved. Just false accusations no videotapes. When asked for video tapes they denied. Improper use of authority . Mind you we are talking about a 4.0 student who has been tht since elementary school. We raised our kids better and bullying is not tolerated. He took this class because he kept getting bullied here in the schools so the fact they are making him look like the aggressor even tho he’s not that type of kid. He took this class to be get help because he was physically being bullied. Yet he was being bullied here as well. He uses the word bullying which makes you wonder if he knows the term of bullying. I think he makes himself look like he's a "hero" by saying he took care of bullying even tho the bullying came from his family. That's a dangerous man this whole place needs to be investigated internally. Negligence on facility not being sanitary, failing to use proper equipment on business and possible harm to others due to lack of not following safety guidelines. ( Many ppl come to the mat with no mouthpiece) I know he's going to try to use the earpiece against even tho there's a couple ppl who have it on as well. Except ours was off and only on due to having kids. We need to be able to a phone call away for the kids. Other than that we were full ears in the class. There to try to get a workout) we got a few phone calls from 2 people who still go here and said they heard him speaking about the situation and they think what he is doing is unprofessional. We are kind of close to them so they knew we had canceled membership a month ago and they pretty much said he's making himself look like the good guy. So it just shows tht kind of person we are dealing with.
