The Tōukon Academy is a very welcoming, friendly environment and has a wealth of knowledge. The introduction classes are perfect to ease into the sport as a beginner, each class is essentially a master class from David, Sunny and Harrison. The level of detail and help is second to none. The gym is set up for high level competition, but they do not push this on you at all, great for competing or as a hobby. Thank you David and the team.

Having stepped into The Tōukon Academy as a complete beginner in BJJ, I could not have asked for a more welcoming and constructive environment in which to start a new sport. David’s methods of teaching really help to break down often complicated techniques and his sincere attitude to helping students means that I always feel comfortable asking questions. This also applies to Sunny who takes the Thursday evening classes. Whether it be the white belt introductory course, open mats or the weekly Judo class, there’s so much on offer I couldn’t recommend The Tōukon Academy more.

I could not recommend The Tōukon Academy enough. It can be daunting starting a new sport let alone BJJ. But from the moment I step foot inside for my first class I felt welcomed and apart of the fantastic community that they have curated. Dave's coaching is mega, detailed and in-depth while still remaining concise and easy to follow as a beginner. I leave every class felling fantastic having had a great laugh, learned a lot and with a smile on my face. 10/10. I'm so glad I started and look forward to every training session.

I have just completed my first 100 days as a member of the Toukon Academy and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking about trying out Jiu-jitsu. Having never done a martial art and not a frequent gym goer I was nervous about joining, however from the very first beginners lesson Dave the head trainer puts you right at ease. His lessons are extremely accessible with great patience and understanding towards every pupil. Dave is brilliant at showing you the fundamentals, practical application and the thought process behind applying your Jiu-jitsu through clear instruction with a good bit of humour! The community at the Academy is wonderful, with people of all ages, backgrounds and levels learning together. Plenty of friendly faces and more knowledgeable members makes the lessons enjoyable and worthwhile. I would definitely recommend the Academy to anyone thinking of joining!

I can't believe my luck in finding Tōukon Academy! Dave Webb is patient, skilled, and incredibly motivating. Dave joined by Gary and Sonny (and helpful members sharing knowledge) make every session enjoyable. Grateful for the safe environment they create, allowing me to test both my physical and mental fitness. I'm thrilled to be a part of the friendly community!
