I just started training here and I’m loving it already. Great coaches here. I’d recommend this place to anyone who is trying to learn the martial arts they teach here.

Moved to Norfolk from San Diego and was looking for a muay thai gym to continue training at. This place had great reviews so I was excited to check it out but unfortunately, HOMT left me disappointed. Customer service over the phone was already subpar but I didn’t want to let that define my experience. I arrived to class 15 minutes early so I could sign any waivers, warm up, and get a feel for the space. It is a very small space, which isnt a knock to them, but with a class actively happening and everyones stuff stowed in the front, it left virtually no space to warm up. There was no one at the front desk this entire time. I sat for 15 minutes watching the class, multiple times the instructor would come within feet of me and look in my direction but not so much as smile or say hello. When the previous class ended, the mats were very sweaty and were very haphazardly cleaned between classes. Poorly cleaned floors indicates poorly cleaned gear to me and an easy way to get a case of ringworm. Class started with a round of shadow boxing to warmup. A rather insufficient warmup (no jumprope, no stretching..) but a warmup nonetheless. Unfortunately I was unable to warmup because this is when the front desk lady emerged, sweaty from just taking the previous class, to tell me I needed to fill out a waiver. Very convenient for me to have arrived 15 minutes early to mitigate this and instead have it cut into my class time/warmup. Class itself was ok. Aside from the instructor never introducing himself, which should be standard with new members, he did come around and give individual feedback. There was no music playing during the class which detracted from the fun and intensity of training. I barely broke a sweat. Another man taking class interjected my partner & I intermittently with feedback, this was apparently the owner but he, too, never introduced himself. When class was over no one asked about my experience or gave any sort of sales pitch. We were rushed out so the next class could begin. I left feeling very disappointed. I came from Victory MMA, Jockos gym, in San Diego, so I know I am a bit spoiled in my experience but you don’t need a sprawling facility to have good customer service, professional staff, cleanliness, and a sense of community. If anything, you would think a hole in the wall place would do a better job with those things. Maybe if you’re a total beginner with no experience to compare things to, this place will be fine but I couldn’t recommend it or see myself returning.

This place is great! My daughter and her friend are members now and they love it! They would be there everyday if they could! The coaches are so patient and knowledgeable. It's a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. I definitely feel like it's a great place to grow confidence, get a great workout, and to learn an awesome sport. Definitely all thumbs up!

I highly recommend this gym. I had the opportunity of training at this gym for what turned out to be 7 months. I was recovering from a surgery that prevented me training BJJ, which was my pre-surgery hobby and primary interest. I initially thought I would train Muay Thai at HOMT for a couple of months until my recovery reached the point where I could start rolling on the mats again for BJJ. However, after the first week of training Muay Thai I fell in love with it and stuck with it throughout my recovery. I attribute my enjoyment of Muay Thai to the coaches: Octavian, Landon, Romi, Larue, Jackson, Jeremy, Shamar, and of course head coach Jake, who has instilled a positive learning environment and competitive culture in his gym. All the coaches have the skills, credibility, and care to deliver first-rate instruction and ensure students comprehend the techniques. I am only leaving the gym because I have to move, and it will be the main thing I miss the most about Norfolk. -Felix

Very impressed with the instructors and what is taught here. My son has been training here for a year now. Even early on after being there a couple months I saw him get better at his training but most importantly his self confidence. There is more than just self defense and striking taught at the children classes. Respect, Honor, and discipline is tied in on a daily basis. I would recommend this to any parent. The team here is remarkable. They also have adult classes.
