Great bunch of folks, very active as a community and seem to have everyone's best interest in mind with everything they do.
Posted 11 months agoMy 11-year-old nephew was visiting for a few weeks over the summer and needed a place to train. I found The Academy online, met with Professor Rob and Coach Lizzy, and took him to his first class that evening. The kids’ classes are exceptionally well run—combining skilled instruction, great cardio, and plenty of fun in every session. Over the course of 5 or 6 classes, my nephew had a fantastic time and consistently received high-quality training. Professor Rob and Coach Lizzy welcomed him like part of the team and gave him exactly what he’s always looking for: good, tough training that challenges him and helps him grow. Thank you both for making his summer training in Arvada such a great experience!
Posted 1 year agoNew student here for a few weeks. I'm impressed with the extremely high quality instruction and relaxed but professional environment. Wish I joined sooner.
Posted 1 year agoAwesome place to Train. I came from out of state for 2 days and they welcomed me with open arms. Great place to visit.
Excellent Brazilian JiuJitsu thorough instruction.
Great place, with great teachers and awesome community! Professor Rob is super patient and knowledgeable.
Just finished my 15th class with Professor Robert Wunderlich, and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience thus far. The instructors are knowledgeable, inviting, and considerate. Members are supportive and friendly. I'm glad I walked through the door. Thank you to Professor Robert, coach Lizzie and the rest of the team!
My kids absolutely love this place and they got me into BJJ as well. Great community. Highly recommend!
Drop in from out of town. White belt. This place is awesome! The coaches are very welcoming and friendly. The whole atmosphere and experience was perfect. I highly recommend!
I lost 16 pounds during the 6 week challenge. When someone needs correct discipline and a positive change with their behavior and daily habits this academy is a good place to begin the journey to receive a healthy and morally sound life.
I was in town visiting some friends and came across The Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Arvada. They were super welcoming and inviting. Great people all around. You'll come for the BJJ, but you'll stay for the top-notch instruction and friendly people. If you're ever in Arvada I recommend you check them out. I'll be back every time I'm in town.
I am so thankful for this community. I have learned so much about myself and about Jiu jitsu. But more than that, I have met the most supportive and caring group of people. I always, 100% of the time, leave class feeling like I learned and like I am getting stronger. My confidence has improved noticeably and I can’t say enough about how this place has changed me.
The Academy is a great place to learn Jui Jitsu. Professor Robert and all his coaches are excellent. It is has a very encouraging culture. That is important because it is not an easy art to learn but if you work at it is so worth it. If you want to learn a martial arts this is a GREAT place to learn.
Excellent place to train with most classes being taught by black belts. Gi, no-gi, and competition style classes available. Plenty of 1 on 1 feed back from the instructors. Wanted to get into jiu jitsu for a while and finally started training in April, this November I got 1st place in my first tournament so I guess the training and classes are working.
i wanted to update my review now that i have been training here for a few yrs. This place is great. The professors are patient, experienced and passionate about their art. I like that the academy both family friendly as well as being conducive to preparing for a tournament.
I’ve been training at Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Arvada for 4 ½ years and it has been a great experience. I had originally starting my training at another Denver area school, but transferred after attending a couple of classes with Professor Wunderlich. I have no complaints about the other school, however I feel level of detail taught at the ABJJA is second to none. This is critical because BJJ is a martial art favoring technique and skill over strength and speed. The environment is friendly and community oriented, where all types are welcome. The classes typically has as many women attend as men, and I know that the kids’ classes are popular as well. I encourage anyone interested in BJJ to call the academy and speak to one of the professors (Robert, Ruben, or Adam) to setup a time to participate in a class, or watch one if that’s more comfortable for you.
This is a wonderful gym where the instruction is exceptional, the facility is always meticulously clean, and everybody takes care of each other.
Plenty of mat space, very clean facility. The team, and coach Rob, are super friendly and welcoming. Most importantly, the training is always a good, solid pace. Very much recommended, and worth checking out!
I started training with Rob shortly after moving to Arvada in 2020, and I feel that my jiu jitsu game has improved tremendously. Rob offers amazing instruction in a friendly, safe, and positive environment. I even brought my 60 year old dad to the beginners class, and he had a blast! No prior martial arts experience is required!
This gym is always welcoming, Professor Robert has a way of teaching that allows for anyone to find understanding. If you’re looking to plug in with a BJJ family, it’s definitely here.
This place treats you like family! Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. The training is intense and I always feel like I got a good workout and learned something new. Not to mention this is the most affordable gym I have ever been a part of.
If you want a safe, friendly, and fun environment to learn BJJ, this is the place.
I started training here in October of 2021. I'm 50+ years old and never taking a martial arts classes in my life. Six months (and 20 lbs lighter) later I attend a minimum of two classes per week and am committed to getting my next belt. The Fundamentals class is fantastic and is nicely scheduled for professionals (like myself) who can take advantage morning classes. I now take my 9-year old daughter to the Saturday kids class and she loves it.
If you have ever thought about doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - stop thinking and just do it. I have never done anything like this before and started in my 40's. It has been so fun and challenging to learn something completely new! The journey is so worth it. The instructors and other students are amazing. It is a very welcoming gym. Whoever you are, you belong.
This place is incredible we left for a short period of time to try another schooll and boy we were disappointed we came back and definitely appreciated the hard work that Robert and Ruben and there dedicated staff commit to on a daily basis not only are they concerned about your BJJ instruction but they take your health very serious and as a parent and Martial Artist I can appreciate the dedication to there school and students. If you are looking for a excellent school with world class instruction you are welcome here.
I was visiting from out of town and wanted to try and get a training session in over the weekend. Ended up here mainly because it was close to where I was staying and I was so glad I came here to train. I went to a fundamentals class and then stayed for open mat. First off, they had a huge training mat and the entire building was very clean. Robert was the instructor for the day. We went over about 5 different techniques and he was very detailed about each one. Any question that was asked about the technique, Robert provided a full explanation and reason for his answer. All the students were extremely respectful, friendly, and humble. Everybody was very intentional with their techniques and about trying to learn. During the open mat everybody rolled hard, but nobody was trying to prove anything by taking your head off, like some other places. If you are looking to get into BJJ, looking for a permanent place to train, or just looking to drop in, I would definitely recommend going to The Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Arvada. I certainly hope to go back next time I am in the area!!
Great place to train. Instructors are excellent and welcoming to everyone.
Did a drop in intermediate session while on vacation and was very pleased with it. Very knowledgeable instruction, very competent and capable students, clean facility, and everyone I met was beyond nice and welcoming. It is a more sport/tournament oriented school from my experience but I only attended one class so that isn't to say that all classes are such. Overall 10/10, would recommend to anyone looking to do well in tournaments or anyone from a self-defense oriented school looking for some variety.
A great, supportive environment for learning. Very clear and concise instruction as well!
Anytime I am in the Denver area for work (from Illinois) I feel very lucky to get to train at the Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Arvada. Professor Wunderlich is very clear in his teaching, progressing learnings in a manageable, but still challenging, way. His enthusiasm is greatly appreciated. The school has really grown in years, and has nice high ceilings and good air flow. There is also a section for striking classes, and what is impressive is they can do classes concurrently and you cannot even tell another class is going on in the other room, the sound is very well managed. Whether you are looking for self defense, or also want to compete, this is an awesome school.
The academy is a great place to train, whether you are brand new or experienced. The instructors are all experienced competitors and use that wealth of knowledge to inform their teaching. Rob has been involved in developing high-level competitions and tournaments and so has a tong of connections with top athletes. Many elite competitors drop in regularly for class, open mat, or as guest instructors. Don't let this intimidate you, though- the academy has family feel and everyone is welcoming from day one!
The academy is an awesome place to learn Jiu Jitsu. The instructors are all high level practitioners, and the curriculum is set up for student success. Rob has a lot of connections in the bjj world and will often have other black belts come and teach seminars. People are real friendly overall a great place to train
This is a great place to train, very detailed instructions for fundamentals and advanced, always clean and super friendly rolling partners. The environment and vibe are always fun, I've never left the doorstep without having a fantastic experience!
My bf and I trained at the Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Arvada while on vacation. This is a nice, clean facility with lots of classes on the schedule to choose from. Thanks to their flexible schedule, we were able to fit in a class and an open mat session, alongside all the touristy things we wanted to do. What a great group of people to train with! Everyone treated us with friendly curiosity, and seemed genuinely interested in helping us improve.
I appreciated that both Professors (Rob & Rubin) invited me in to come and train; wasn’t weird or exclusive at all. The facility was very clean; the students were very focused and in control. The students were very honed and great rolling partners. I’m looking forward to my next visit to the area! - J. Rourke (Blue belt; 4 stripes)
Professor Robert is a great black belt, very detailed. I’m a blue belt 2 stripe and had a great time rolling. Clean and lots of mat to roll.
I moved to Colorado shortly after receiving my black belt. I had a chance to visit many schools in the area prior to choosing ABJJA as my new home. Though many others had great instructors and facilities ABJJA was still a clear choice. The environment and instruction is far above others. Classes are specifically tailored to beginners as well as advanced students. Level of detail that is put into every move as well as the curriculum is gargantuan. I also had a chance to bring some visiting friends to the school and everyone loved the stay. My favorite place to be!
I stopped by for a drop in and had a great time! Clear instruction and great environment. If you’re in the area and are looking to start jiu jitsu, this gym has a great vibe.
This place is amazing went in for a free lesson and learned a lot.
Welcoming environment, with a great group of people who are eager to learn. You get I n depth, clear instructions with a variety of scenarios and multiple options for each. Professor is dedicated to the art and practice of Jiu Jitsu and really only wants for your success! Warning -- once Jiu Jitsu gets into your blood it's highly addictive; you have been warned!
The staff has pure devotion and commitment to teaching. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and great with children. The studio is very welcoming and my son thoroughly enjoyed his experience there. Thanks guys!
Can't recommend highly enough! I only had the chance to train with Professor Robert (and others--Sean is great, too) for two months while away from my home academy, but the gym and its members are really friendly, very inclusive, and happy to help people learn. Robert's style of teaching involves a lot of points on principles of movement (e.g., points of attack are where the body bends) that really help clarify the game. Robert is hugely involved in the BJJ community, between acting as a head ref for tournaments around the country and even helping out people affected by Hurricane Harvey! Just a stand up guy. Great environment in general (I'll go ahead and mention that I'm a young woman and always felt very comfortable here). Lots of seminars.
Great Instructors creating an amazing environment to learn
If you live in the Arvada area and are interested in precise Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction, this is the place to train!
Robert is a dedicated and passionate teacher of the art. I strongly recommend the academy of Jiu jitsu Arvada as the place to train if you want to learn and practice every aspect of the art the way it was meant to be.
