The best BJJ academy in town. The coaches are amazing, experienced and provide excellent training. They built a very welcoming and family friendly environment, multiple Families training together. Both my kids are training, and in the kids’ classes there are always many coaches at the mat to instruct the kids and give 1:1 instructions when needed.

Marcelo Pereira Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is probably the most effective, traditional BJJ program in the Ft. Myers area. When I first moved here, I checked out many studios and it became clear to me that this is the best option. Excellent instruction by a true master of the art at a very clean, well-maintained studio in a welcoming, family atmosphere! Their competition team is also very impressive. Really enjoying the experience for my son and I as we’ve been going for a few months now. I’ve enjoyed adding this to my sons life and watching him develop in so many different way that aren’t even BJJ related. The staff at BUJ Fort Myers is very friendly and care about their students. Best jiu jitsu place to train in SWFL. I got here 4 years ago as a recently promoted blue belt from another gym and I had the privilege to be promoted to purple belt by a world champion like Marcelo. That journey from blue belt to purple belt it’s been tough but Marcelo is always supporting and encouraging all member of the gym to push themselves to be better every day. Also it’s a grate environment at the gym. Great people there. We can choke each other in the mat but out of it you can count that they have your back for sure. I’m about to be a father and I can’t wait for my boy to turn 4 so he can start training and begin his own journey in jiu jitsu.

As a new student of BJJ I wanted to share my experience for those trying to find a new school, or if youre starting a martial arts or BJJ for the first time. For background I have attended schools for JKD, WCKF, & have minor TKD exposure. I have attended Mareclo's school for 26 classes thus far. I'm going to try to review each aspect of the school that I think is important in any MA discapline. Keep in mind any school, of any discipline has their own teaching style and culture. Not every school is for every body, but I highly reccomend you give this school a try regardless if you're looking for a quality BJJ education. (You can try class free of charge before joining also.) Marcelo: In terms of teaching Martial Arts, Marcelo is the type of teacher found less and less many places you go. He actuallt teaches the classes himself. He doesnt just pop in to say a few things at the start of class, then go to an office to do business work and show up again at the end to close. He is always present and supervising. He gives his coaches the opportunity to teach, and closely supervises to ensure accuracy and quality. He jumps in to show students lessons he thinks are essential during classes, and if you ask him a question personally he will not only explain the practicality or inpracticality of something, but will physically demonstrate also. He walks the mats during practice to supervise the technique of students to make sure you actually learn properly. He is also a Brazillian, teaching Brazillian Ju-Jitsu. That should speak enough for itself. In terms of the school: You start day one being given the opportunnity to roll on the mats if you want. His students were kind, friendly, and welcoming to me. It made the whole experience less intimidating, and after 3 classes I was able to shake the first day at camp feeling and felt part of the family. His coaches are knowledgable, patient, and passionate and just as eager to help you as Marcelo. This school has a good educational culture. It isn't toxic, there are no egos, and higher belts act with restraint and integrity. No one is here to hurt you, or get hurt for that matter. Class Schedule: I am very happy with this. I have been part of martial art schools that only have 2 classes a week, yet expect you to learn. This school has two locations and between both of them you can practice and learn Gi or Nogi 5 days out of the week. Saturdays are open mat at the Fort Myers location and he does morning classes throughout the week both in Naples and in Fort Myers for people who might work nights. All in all I highly reccomend this school in general as a Martial Arts Academy, let alone BJJ as a discipline.

I met Marcelo back in 2011 trained with him for a few months no gi and had to leave him for 1 year to finish college. I returned in 2012 as a white belt and his professionalism, unity and integrity had me hooked from that day forward. I came in a decorated wrestled DIII and he wasted no time sculpting me into a BJJ fighter with 1.5 years of his guidance I received my blue belt and immediately put it to the test shortly after @ the Adult IBJJF world tournament in May 2014 where I fought a bracket of 60 men and came out champion after 6-0 on fights without giving one put to my competitors. I’m 215 pounds and he’s 130 on a good day lol He teaches a game that will adapt to anyone’s style and now matter your degree you will be blown away. Fast forward to now after never missing more than a day here and a day there; I received my Black Belt in December of 18’. I have listened to every word of his advice and it shows. I have won a ton of titles in many different organizations as teaches us to be great fighters but, more than anything I can say about this guy is: his love for seeing us progress as human beings; being a better friend, a better husband or wife, a better son or daughter and maybe more than anything to me and that’s being a better parent. Without walking this walk it is difficult to understand but as time progresses and as you continue to climb this ladder one will soon understand, ways to approach situations as a parent differently, no to fight fire with fire but to create angles to get to the root of things. Much light like fighting bjj; technique conquers Adell and these words in fighting or in life couldn’t be anymore true. It’s an atmosphere with no negativity, everyone is on the same page, literally you’re finding ways to survive in a possible life or death situation. This is an escape for many people where as soon as the walk through the door all their problems stay outside and inside a new world exists where you get to simulate murder 😂 on one another and having such a great time doing it lol 😆 Whether you’re a parent bringing a disturbed child, a perfect child or you yourself want to get into something different in this everyday life this gym is the place for you. The profession on and off the mats will be noticed immediately. Your child’s step will have some extra “pip” in it, they’ll have more confidence going through school, helping them realize what their bodies are capable of. Your husband or wife will notice them extra few pounds disappearing, they might come home and say hey honey let me try this new choke out on you...😂😂. And you might rolls your eyes but deep down you’ll see that they’re enjoying themselves and developing their mind, you’ll slowly start to see the changes. All I can say about this academy is we’re united, all walks of life exist here and 9 times out of 10 we would have never met one another any other way than Jiu Jitsu. We come together and make each other better as they say “iron sharpens iron” and this is exactly that. No progress can be made without proper guidance and without like minded people. Marcelo is the epitome of a leader; he’s out there on the front line fighting with us, fighting for our best interests, correcting our mistakes, bringing us together and making us better human beings by demonstrating this martial arts lifestyle.

I would love to address and chime in on a review written by an "anonymous" user who called himself "your mind" First off, the fact that you are anonymous speaks loudly about your character and who you are. Second off, I can speak from experience as my children are all enrolled with Marcelo and his team. His antics and professionalism are unlike anything I have ever experienced within martial arts. Having a coach who truly cares about his students is very rare, and that is exactly the type of coach Marcelo is. Being a coach requires true passion for what you do, and I can confidently say Marcelo and the ENTIRE team have a true passion and love for all of their students. I have known professor marcelo pereira since he first came to Florida and not only is he a world class brazilian jiujitsu black belt and world class instructor . He is the most technical blackbelt in florida in my opinion and he really cares about and treats his students like family and he's awesome with kids . If you want to take your bjj game to a world class level go on in and see professor pereira and u won't be dissapointed .
