The Gordo Jiu Jitsu Cape Coral academy is dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and self-defense. BJJ is a highly practical martial art that emphasizes grappling and ground fighting techniques. Our academy welcomes both adults and kids, providing a safe and supportive environment for training.
I’ve been training at Gordo BJJ Cape Coral for over 3 months now! It has become my favorite place to go. First, Professor Rodrigo is the absolute best. He is very passionate about BJJ and about his students. He taught me a new level of respect and confidence I didn’t know I had in myself. When it comes to the other students in the class, it’s been great! I’ve made brothers and sisters for life and plan to never stop training with them. I actually look forward to training dude to the great people that attend and coach. My son(8) also trains at Gordo BJJ. The kids classes are an absolutely blast and well worth it to get out all of that energy they have! Overall 10/10!!!
Posted 1 year agoProfessor Rodrigo is a phenomenal teacher and his knowledge of BJJ is truly amazing! I have gained so much appreciation for the sport in such a brief period of time. The environment is very supportive, friendly and a place where you can grow mentally and physically! Professor is the MAN!!!!!!
Posted 1 year agoI joined Gordo BJJ because my husband signed up and we thought it would be fun to do together—but I was definitely nervous at first since I’d never done anything like this before. From day one, Coach Rodrigo, Tati, and all of the students made me feel completely welcome. Coach is dedicated, patient, and genuinely excited to help everyone learn. Tati is always smiling and kind, and the atmosphere they’ve created truly feels like family. The classes are structured in a way that works really well—starting with technique (escapes, submissions, etc.) and ending with rolling, which gives you a chance to actually apply what you just learned. I also love that the classes I go to are for all levels, so whether you’re brand new or more experienced, you’ll get something out of it. They also offer kids, teens, women’s self-defense, fundamentals, advanced classes and no-gi every Friday. All the students are super supportive, and there’s zero ego in the room. Everyone just wants to learn and help each other get better. I came in pretty out of shape, and not only have I built a stronger core, but I’ve gained a ton of confidence. All my work stress disappears the minute I walk into the gym. If you’ve ever been curious about BJJ, I highly recommend trying a trial class at Gordo BJJ. Come alone or bring a friend, either way, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. They take walk-ins and have a full daily schedule. Most students are white belts, but there’s a great mix of blue, purple, and brown belts to learn from too. I’m so glad I joined!

I’ve been training at Gordo jiu-jitsu for awhile now, and it’s been an incredible experience. The Professor is highly skilled, patient, and truly care's about helping students improve. The environment is welcoming, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner. The community here is supportive, and I always leave class feeling challenged and motivated. If you’re looking for a great place to train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I highly recommend Gordo Jiu-jitsu!
I am incredibly grateful for Professor Rodrigo and Gordo Jiu Jitsu. From the very first class my son attended, we have been treated like family and made to feel welcome. This class has been an incredible resource in building my son's confidence. The classes are always geared towards positive reinforcement equally balanced with the disciplined expected in BJJ. I am consistently impressed by their approach with so many young kids and the warm atmosphere that they’ve created. My son loves going to every class each week, and we love to see his passion grow for the art.
My wife convinced me to restart Jiu Jitsu after stopping over 10 years ago. Joining Gordo BJJ was a perfect match. The gym is clean. Profesor Rodrigo and his wife are professional and welcoming. He is very knowledgeable and received his training from close lineage to the Gracie family. The training environment is awesome and the members are friendly and helpful. I am so blessed to find this school. I would recommend our school to anyone thinking of starting or continuing their ju jitsu journey.
Training at Gordo Bjj Cape Coral has been a great experience. Professor Rodrigo is very professional, he takes Bjj really serious and that creates a respectful environment amongst students, he’s also patient and actually cares about his students improvement. I’m a 64 year old diabetic who got back into jiujitsu a year ago after a long time off to deal with 911-related cancer. The improvements to my overall health, (including losing 40 lbs) have been amazing. When I moved from North Jersey down to Sanibel FL in November, one of my main concerns was finding a school as good as my school in NJ. Luckily for me, I found out that GORDO BJJ was opening that month in Cape Coral. I joined that month have been going to class 3 or 4x a week ever since. Professor Rodrigo is an excellent instructor who truly cares about his students. He teaches every class and he sets an awesome and positive tone. Of course what really makes a school is its students and I can honestly say the everyone I’ve met and trained with at GORDO (at all levels) have been cool and not overly aggressive. I’ve trained at several places including RGA in NYC and have had several serious injuries over the years so this was really important to me. I’ve made quite a few friends in my short time there. Even at 64, getting back into BJJ is the best decision I’ve made for my health. BJJ is especially helpful for kids and women and GORDO offer classes for them as well. It’s no surprise the school is growing fast and I highly recommend GORDO BJJ for anyone looking to advance or begin their journey. Thank you Professor Rodrigo for being such a great teacher and mentor and for providing such great environment!
I had an incredible experience training at Gordo jiu-jitsu! Professor Rodrigo is a phenomenal instructor with a vast wealth of knowledge, and he does an amazing job articulating and breaking down techniques so they’re easy to understand for all levels. I was visiting from out of state, and both he and his wife welcomed me into the classes without hesitation, treating me just like one of their own students. The atmosphere was friendly, professional, and incredibly welcoming. I truly appreciated the hospitality and high-level instruction, and I can’t wait to return next time I’m in town! I moved to Florida in June. Having trained jiujitsu for the past few years I was looking for a new academy where I can find high level jiujitsu and a friendly atmosphere. Professor Rodrigo is one of Roberto “Gordo” Limas Black Belts. Gordo is one of the most respected Professors in the Brazilian Jiujitsu community. Professor Rodrigo is an excellent instructor with a knack for breaking down techniques making them easy to understand and apply. The academy is warm, welcoming and clean. So grateful to be one of the first members. If you’re looking for a jiujitsu academy in the area, Gordo Jiujitsu Cape Coral is THE place to train.
As a female training jiu jitsu, it can be very difficult to find a place that is comfortable. I find Profesdor Rodrigo to be very encouraging and a respectable instructor who ensures that his patrons are comfortable. The gym is nice and clean.

Went for a drop-in class at Gordo BJJ-Cape Coral and felt like I was at home. I am in town visiting with my family and found Gordon BJJ-Cape Coral just minutes from me. The gym is very clean, professional, and spacious. Professor Rodgrio and his wife were great to deal with. He was very patient and made things make sense. His students were welcoming and great training partners for me, especially as a young woman. Everyone was respectful of me being a woman. If I lived here in Cape Coral, Gordo BJJ would be hands down the gym I call home. Highly recommended that all women, men, and children experience the learning Professor Rodrigo is capable of passing on. I am Greatful to have had this experience in my jiujitsu journey.

Professor Rodrigo is such an amazing jiujitsu practitioner and mentor for both adults and children. My husband, daughter, and I have had the privilege of training under him for several years. In addition to his own training, he comes with the experience of training military and law enforcement personnel. He cares about his students and their family, extending anti-bullying classes to children and self-defense courses. If you have the opportunity to start jiujitsu, I would definitely recommend his location if you are in the Cape Coral and surrounding area.
