I started training jiu jitsu 2 years ago at this gym after my friend brought me with him to one of the classes. Immediately I fell in love with bjj and the people here. We get a lot of mat time and that has helped me develop very quickly in my abilities in sport jiu jitsu and self defense capabilities. Ryan is an incredible instructor, person, and human being. His gym is an incredibly friendly place where I have trained with and met some of my best mates. I've trained at a number of gyms across Tampa since starting bjj 2 years ago, yet this still remains the most welcoming and highest level gym I have ever been to. I know that I will stay here for decades to come.
Visited Tampa from out of state and stopped by and had a amazing experience. Ryan is a great coach and very nice person. The students were very humble and very welcoming to me training there with them. Highly recommend this school for anyone living in Tampa or visiting the area!
Great experience! Knowledgeable, Humble and Handsome teacher on Monday and Wednesday at the 8:30 P.M. classes.
My son has been attending the jujitsu class since March and it has been a great experience. I’m noticing his confidence level going up. He enjoys and feels comfortable with the level of instruction Ryan and his team gives in the class. Thank you Ryan for being a part of our lives. You and Rebecca are like family :)
I’m currently taking the self defense course and it’s been a great experience. The instructors are patient and very knowledgeable. The course has been empowering and I’m planning on continuing with jiu jitsu once it’s over.

I was visiting Tampa (from Detroit) for a week, and I wanted somewhere to drop in. I contacted a few gyms, but TJJ was the most responsive. Also, they did not charge me a drop-in fee. There were 8-12 regulars there when I visited, and all but two or three were blue belts or higher. One purple belt actively worked with me the whole time during drilling, and both he and the black belt in attendance rolled with me. Really great experience, and highly recommended!
I was in Tampa for business and dropped into Tampa Jiu Jitsu for some training while in town. What a great Jiu Jitsu gym! Ryan is super knowledgeable and is a great teacher. The team there is great and all are fun to roll with. Go check them out!!!
I joined Tampa Jiu Jitsu after moving to Tampa 4 months ago. I was looking for a gym similar to the one I trained at in Chicago - down to earth, laid back, honest, with good instruction and one that was more about teaching BJJ than making money and locking contracts. After trying out a few other places and meeting Ryan and his other instructors I chose Tampa Jiu Jitsu as it checked all those checkboxes for me. The instruction is great, you get a mix of 4 different instructors teaching 6 days a week, people are friendly, but also tough and skilled. Glad I found this gem!
I really like the smaller class size & more intimate environment which allows the instructor to give younger less experienced students one on one attention they might need.
Coach Ryan has always been a faithful practitioner of Hélio Gracie's style and theory. After knowing Mr. Diechert for ten years, he continues to earn my love and appreciation for his consistent commitment to his students. Anybody would do well to have this man in their corner!
Great gym for any level. I, a four months white belt, came here as a visitor, told Ryan before hand that I was just a tourist and only be here for a day but everyone in the gym was very welcoming and respectful. A higher belt even offered to show me some basic techniques at the end of the open mat. I highly recommend this gym!
Great place to learn Rebecca, Ryan and their staff are the best! I'm a recent graduate of their USF Health Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Yoga (Helping Veterans). I got assigned to the Yoga program, but since I signed up with the intention of doing Jiu Jitsu at first I'll be honest I did not wanted got continued. However, I'm glad I did and followed through with it because the practice helped tremendously with my anxiety and sleep issues to the point that I no longer need to take medications given by the VA as often to treat the symptoms. The best thing about is that they also provided the opportunity to go for the Jiu Jitsu classes after the graduation and they are on point! Even with a full class for both Jiu Jitsu and Yoga the instructors find the time to give you individual attention when needed.
My son loves it. Instructor is fabulous with the kids.
So I was hooked as soon as my trial class ended. I signed up immediately after! I joined back in June and I have already learned a lot. Ive had prior martial arts experience and this is the best experience thus far! I say that it is the best experience because some of my previous experiences did not break things down the way these guys do. Its all hands on and they show you the nitty and gritty. Coach Ryan(Owner) is such an awesome individual who doesn't treat you like another number he will instead, take you under his wing like you are family and so does the rest of his staff in both locations. Coach Rick is another good coach who will break techniques down thoroughly and he makes it so simple that anyone can understand. These Coaches/Instructors will explain the moves and techniques to you so well that you will be able use the moves that are taught effectively and efficiently. The other unique thing about training here is that they will explain how to use and apply what you are taught in real-life situations. They are also really good with kids from my observation(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*). As far as the adult classes ages vary but again they make it work for everyone to learn and enjoy. Overall this is the best experience for your buck in the area period. They are reasonably priced as well. (Absolutely no rip-offs, Scams or anything like that here) You definitely get what you pay for. When you sign up they will offer different package deals but I would honestly recommend the most expensive package. I say that because with that package you have full access to all classes everyday that they are available and at both locations which is awesome. Also another thing to keep in mind is that the new Wesley Chapel location does offer Muay Thai. Also another thing that is offered at the Tampa location is Yoga(Separate Packaging*). All in all this place deserves a 5 Star rating and I highly RECOMMEND this place for training. Location(s) A+ Staff A+ Prices A+ (Better than most local competitors*)

I love Tampa Jiu Jitsu! I've been a student for many years now and it's been an amazing experience. Very family friendly, a safe place to learn self defense from the best! And they're opening a new location soon as well
Great family environment. We all love it! Jiu Jitsu and Yoga is excellent.
Tampa Jiu Jitsu has been a great experience for me and my boys. I've tried many different martial arts over the years and Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is hands down the best. I've been going for over 3 years now and Ryan Deichert and his instructors are awesome, they teach Gracie jiu jitsu, but also add an element "street self-defense", so you or your kids are prepared if you ever need to defend yourself. If you've never tried jiu jitsu, I encourage sign up for a free class and give it try. It's fun and you'll meet some great people.
Recovering from an injury for the past year or so... and moving slow. I had been doing lots of walking and some mild working out. I decided I was finally in good enough shape to try Jiu Jitsu, which has been in my bucket list for years. I had seen Tampa Jiu Jitsu in a nearby shopping center, and finally stopped by to say hi. They were closed at the time, so I call the business number and left a message. The owner (Ryan) called me back within minutes. We talked a little bit about what I was after, and discussed my injury and how we could work with it... and that night, went to my first class. I had a blast. Good workout, and great class. Ryan is an excellent instructor, with the habit of keeping everything very positive, and fun. He works hard at making you feel welcome... and his other staff, and the students all do that also. I like learning a useful skill, as well as getting in good shape. Great way to burn calories, the competition is friendly and in good fun... and you will get out of it what you put into it. I have been to about 15 classes so far, and every class was great, focusing on different techniques each class. There is always someone willing to work with you and I work harder here than I think I have in a while (or maybe I am just getting older, and it seems that way! Lol!) But it is a really good workout... and all ages, all genders are in there having fun and kicking butt, in a safe and controlled atmospere. Highly recommended!
I visited the Academy this past spring and the place is top notch with an amazing atmosphere and the best instruction in the Southeast! I have been involved in the martial arts sine 1977 and I currently hold the rank of 3rd degree Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
Definitely worth checking out. One of the best instructors out there. This is a great place to learn Gracie Jiu jitsu!
I started training BJJ 5 years ago with Ryan Diechert. I moved from Tampa this week and wanted to share my experience. Simply put, here are the reasons I wish to endorse him. He is the best BJJ TEACHER in Tampa. There may be more competition-decorated guys around, but you don't go to class to be impressed or beat up, you go to get taught. If you want real BJJ that works on the streets or in tournaments, Ryan is your guy. I received my purple belt about a year ago, and although I have trained for less years than most purple belts, I beat purple belts consistently when traveling to new schools, including my current school taught by a BJJ legend in a bigger city. Ryan has my technique more crisp and with better thinking than people I have rolled with from other schools. I am not jacked, a great athlete, nor have I watched many bjj youtube videos, but I know what I know because of Ryan. The last, but certainly not least, is the culture that Ryan has at the school. This point makes the biggest difference in my opinion. The culture is one of helping your classmates get better. There is no meathead sense of beating up on a new guy or hiding flaws in your game so that a guy can keep beating you, something disappointingly see too often. If I did something wrong consistently, my classmates would tell me. I would do the same for them. Whether you are experienced or novice, come check out Tampa Jiu Jitsu. Don't let how nice and friendly these guys are fool you. They are dedicated to teaching the art of BJJ in ways I haven't seen executed so perfectly throughout my experience visiting over 15+ schools around the US.
Tampa Jiu Jitsu has the best kids program. The kids learn TRULY effective self defense.
Before I started Jiu Jitsu, I checked out several places to train, and TJJ was the best I found in the area.
Tampa Jiu Jitsu is has the best instructors of any school I have ever been in, this includes even schools that teach things other than martial arts. They have an individualized approach and take the time to get to know each student’s strengths and weaknesses and improve on them. Their outstanding knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is easily evident by their ability break down complex ideas in a simple and easy to understand manner. Ryan has an especially unique knowledge of the Gracie basics because of the many years he spent learning the techniques from the Gracies themselves. It is rare to find someone as dedicated as Ryan is to teaching the Gracie basics exactly has he was taught them. The expertise the staff has to impart has kept me coming back for many years; however my knowledge that this is the only school from me has been solidified by how wonderfully I am treated there. Both the staff and students are very friendly and welcoming to everyone that walks through the door. As if that wasn’t enough, the kids’ classes are fun, interactive and informative (a very hard combination to find).
BEWARE: You will have an incredibly difficult time to cancel your membership. This merchant isn't good about returning calls or responding to emails. I called repeatedly in February 2024 to try to cancel and finally got a return call stating to email him. I immediately emailed him with no response. I have continued to get charges of $149 in March 2024, April 2024, and now May 2024. I have had to do chargebacks to my credit card. I have now cancelled my credit card and had to update all of my other providers due to this ongoing issue. Fortunately, I am dealing with a credit card provider, if this were my bank account I would probably be out of luck entirely. On a side note, our son found the class to be very boring and the repeated lessons with nothing new made this too much of an expense to incur monthly.
