  After 30 years studying and training in Okinawan Karate, I always felt there was something missing in my self-defense skills in the way of grappling, joint locks, and ground fighting skills. I spent two weeks traveling around the Phoenix area watching several different BJJ instructors teach classes. First and foremost I wanted to find a place that seemed welcoming to an older beginner student. Once I watched a noon class Professor Mike was teaching, I knew this was the place I wanted to start my new journey. So at the age of 61, I signed up and dove in. Best thing I have done for myself in several years. Mike, his assistant instructors, and all of the other students have been nothing but professional, respectful and welcoming to me and other new students in the gym. I’ve been at it just over a month and know it will be a lifelong commitment for me.

  Really is a great place to train for men and women and kids of all ages. I trained for years, took some time off, and then came back to train again. And I didn't think people could be even more nice than they used to be, but they are. Such an amazing group of people that coach Mike has there. Good people attract more good people I guess. Great coaches. Great training. Great people.

  Strong Heart community is very welcoming. The professors are highly knowledgeable and genuinely committed to helping you improve in BJJ, regardless of your experience level. Classes are fun, packed with information and you definitely leave feeling better.

  The community here is friendly, and the vibes are incredible. The class structure is well-balanced with a mix of warm-ups, drills, technique work, and live rolling, which really helps in applying what you learn in a practical setting. Each session pushes you to grow—not only in skill but also in mental resilience. Todd is incredibly patient and teaches the fundamentals really well, making it easy to build a strong foundation from the start. He takes time to ensure everyone understands, which really boosts confidence on the mat. They even have a sticker on the front door that says 'Happy Place,' and it truly feels like one!

  We have our 6-year old enrolled and he loves it. Professor Mike's program is a more structured curriculum with direct instruction than we have seen with other programs. Plus his music selection rocks!
