I have been training with Stout (Muay Thai/Striking) for roughly 4 months now and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have lightly trained at other facilities before and have had various different experiences. I had VERY little experience so I would classify myself as a beginner. I had the same apprehensions everyone has starting something new. "Am I going to get beat up? Am I going to fit in? What if I embarrass myself?" I have never had an experience as welcoming as I did with Stout. My class has all skill levels and ages. We got young girls and guys with fight experience to older adults with no experience that maybe just want to have a workout or get some self defense experience in a safe environment. No matter the skill level, there are no egos and you are not just a free punching bag or test dummy. The coaches progress you when they think you are ready. All coaches/trainers (Vince, Brody, Lucas, Rachel) have plenty of knowledge and fight experience and are passionate about seeing every participant get better. Overall, if you are looking for a gym where you can feel comfortable at any experience level you would be entering at, I wouldn't hesitate to join or at least try. My only regret is not starting sooner.
I've been training jiujitsu since 2011 and been with Warren at Stout PGH Team Renzo Gracie since 2012. Top notch experienced instructors always improving their craft and great people. Vince has built a wonderful culture and a training environment that is excellent for new people, families, and has sessions for competitors as well. Great variety of people of sizes, ages, and genders and overall supportive of a variety of goals. Wether you want to just play, get a great workout, compete, do MMA, or better defend yourself this is the place to do it.
I joined Stout 3 years ago as a 42 year old in the worst shape of my life. The students and the instructors have been great and are always welcoming and helpful to all of my needs.
Great place awesome people very welcoming!!!
Great workout and awesome people!
Knowledgeable coaches and great community
I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Stout PGH - Monroeville/East since 2020. This gym has everything you could want in a BJJ gym. Stout PGH - Monroeville/East has a welcoming atmosphere, a great group of people, knowledgeable instructors, and an engaging curriculum. The variety of classes, from fundamentals to advanced, ensures that everyone is appropriately challenged on the mats, regardless of their experience. If you want a fun, challenging, and rewarding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience, then Stout PGH - Monroeville/East is the place to go. I would not want to train anywhere else.
Fantastic instructors and fellow students. I highly recommend any interest in learning Brazilian jiu jitsu or Muay Thai kickboxing come in and check out Stout PGH.
I started training at Stout after competing in college wrestling to pursue MMA. Over the 2 and a half years I’ve been here I can say everyone has become family. It’s a great atmosphere for both kids and adults you are surrounded by like minded healthy people with the same interests as you. The staff and coaches are amazing and patient not only with the kids but instructing adults that are not familiar with martial arts. Whether you are a first day or someone looking in a career in martial arts this place is for you.
Lovely facility, great teachers. 😎👍🏽
I first started training at Stout back in 2014 with some prior experience in BJJ. I must say it’s one of my favorite places to be most days! I walked in for the training and prestige of the day and stayed for the friends, coaching, and curriculum. I consider Stout my extended family. Stout is awesome for your families as well. I have 3 children two of whom have trained at Stout for 4-5 years each, my third child isn’t old enough quite yet but she will definitely join the team.
Great place to train! Top notch instructors! I worked with Mike and Vince and they were very thorough with their instructions. Great conditioning! I will be back!
My two daughters and I have been training here for just under 2 years. Great organization, well trained and informed instructors. I couldnt recommend Stout enough. 🤙🏻
100% Recommend to ANYONE!!! I’m as much of a feminist as any other girl, but joining (or simply just SHOWING UP to) a martial arts gym as a woman can be extremely daunting. DON’T LET IT STOP YOU! I get that going and working out with others may seem scary. You may come up with those inner excuses like: Well, I’m just too busy… When I get in shape I’ll start going… What if people laugh at me… LISTEN!!! The staff team is incredible and is there to help you improve by coaching and teaching you (not yelling at you). Everyone there, including other gym members, are seriously some of the nicest, most encouraging people I have met. Every time I’ve had anxiety and considered skipping class I’ve went anyway. And guess what? The people there never fail to make me feel undoubtedly welcome and happy to have me there. Do yourself a favor and do the free trial. Take it from me, a 5’4” girl with incredible social anxiety powers, you won’t regret pushing yourself out of your comfort zone this time.
We stopped in for a class while traveling through the area. Picked up some cool shirts, but most importantly, my son had a good time. The staff is highly trained and kept the class under control while still assisting individuals with their form. The teachers' and students' excitement for the sport showed in how they presented moves and helped each other. If we were staying in the area, this would become our home gym. 5 stars across the board, would highly recommend to anyone either looking to start jujitsu or continue their bjj journey.
Best place to train in the city. The instructors are very knowledgeable and friendly, the community is so welcoming, and it’s very clean.
Trained here a couple times when visiting family and the gym was very welcoming. Got some quality instruction and good rolls in! Will definitely be back when in town.
Great trainers, great gym, and great people there. I’ve been to several different ones in my time and this one is the best. Worth every penny.
Vince is the man. Great instructor and even better dude.
I visited the Monroeville location for two days and loved it. Great instruction and a down-to-earth, welcoming group of people. It's one of the best experiences I've had visiting a gym.
Great coaches and great culture.
My son had been training at Monroeville Stout for a month and absolutely loves it! Huge props to coach Mark for his dedication and patience teaching these youngsters. I'll extend this to every instructor/staff I've met, as we've had some classes on Saturday in the strip. It's solid instruction in jiu jutsu, with some built-in time for fun. Highly recommended.
Came in to train from out of town. Very cool gym and everyone was very nice. Logan and Mike put on a great class! Will definitely be back and could not recommend more! 👍
Great coaches for all ages and levels
My 11 year son started at stout a few months ago after many failed attempts at different sports. He is thriving the boost in his confidence has been amazing! I am so happy we took a friends advice and decided to give stout a try. The staff is very friendly and the facility is clean. Vince in particular is extremely patient, present, and makes class fun and challenging for the kids.
Started training here not long ago and can’t say enough good things. Every teacher I’ve had has been beyond awesome and they truly want to see you improve and flourish. The people at the gym are also awesome everyone wants to help each other out to better themselves wether it be bjj or Muay Thai. Definitely recommend stout to anyone even remotely considering getting into martial arts.
My son started youth Jiu Jitsu at the Monroeville location about a month ago. They currently offer two Jiu Jitsu classes and one striking class at this location. He also has full access to the other two locations as well. This was the first time he hasn't complained about going to an activity. The training room is clean and the mats and heavy bags are in great condition. Not only are the instructors patient with the kids but they are extremely knowledgeable at their craft. The other students are very welcoming and complimentary. If you are looking for something new and fun for a child that doesn't want to get off their video game then give it a try. They offer a three class trial and there's no pushy sales pitch to sign up once the trail is over.
Awesome Facility with great coaching. The lessons each week are always fun and interesting.
Awesome spot hidden in Monroeville that has all of the same awesome training, attitudes, and a lot of the same people as the main location. Even better with the small class sizes you get a great deal of individual coaching that can be difficult to come across at larger gyms. You’ll struggle to find a nicer group of people. You’ll get the best of all worlds, the great coaching of a large academy, with the intimacy & close knit friendships of a smaller up & coming academy. Do yourself a favor, stop making excuses & come see what’s going down before it’s no longer a secret and classes are packed!
