If you want to learn grappling this is the place to do it. Coach Brandon’s ecological style of coaching (give it a quick google search) is the most effective way to learn the skills and techniques needed for this sport. There are also fundamentals classes for the beginner, these give you a great introduction to the sport, at a manageable pace. As someone who drops in for training at gyms all over the hemisphere while traveling for work, I can tell you with confidence that the instruction you receive at this gym is of significantly higher quality that what is normally experienced elsewhere. The other coaches at the gym are excellent as well. They are experienced, patient, and exhibit a love for the sport. The mats are clean, the gym culture is great. What more could you want. If you apply yourself, you WILL progress faster here than other gyms. Your confidence will increase, your ego will subside and you will become a more well rounded individual. Give it a try and you will not regret it.
I've been training here for about a month, and the trainers are all very friendly, and I've learned a ton about bjj! This is by far the greatest gym to train! 10/10
This is my dojo and I LOVE IT!! Very empowering! Coach Brandon is AMAZING, there is a great cohort of awesome women and the men are respectful. Five stars!!
Our son has been attending the kids classes for a few months now and we absolutely love it! He has learned so much, even at 6 years old! He has gained confidence, patience, and self help skills working with the teachers and students of all levels.
Stopped in here while traveling for a few classes and enjoyed the classes with Coach Brandon. Definitely check it out if looking for Bjj classes in st. Paul.
Super nice school. Clean and well-maintained and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Also great class availability for both the gi and nogi.
Top notch.
Place is amazing. Professor Bergeron was kind and courteous. Welcomed all his students by name and engaging in aspects of their everyday life as if not only students but companions. Lessons were thorough and explained well. Technique was everything you hoped for. And he rolled with anyone and everyone. Officially one of my favorite gyms to visit after my very first visit. If on the fence I highly recommend from beginners to self ascribed beasts give this place a look!
When I was searching for a BJJ gym, there were a few options that were closer to home. One of the main reasons I chose St. Paul BJJ Academy was the amazing reviews. After 25 or so classes I am so glad I decided to join. Coach Brandon runs a top notch organization and there is a clear culture of friendliness, hard work, learning, and fun. I highly recommend this gym to beginners and experts alike.
I love this place! The teachers all have their own complementary style, they truly care and are always ready to listen and give amazing advice. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. The experienced students are also great teachers and so patient with white belts while practicing. This school is so much more than just practice, it’s about respect, care, discipline and also having the best fun ever. Jujitsu has brought balance in my life, and a big smile on my face any time I think about the awesome friends I have made there. I’m still fairly new but I feel like I’ve been part of the family for ever! 😊🥰 Thank you Brandon for opening your home’s doors so generously!
I joined St. Paul BJJ in February. Classes are fun, the gym is clean, coaches are amazing, classmates are friendly (never met an aggressive member), and very easy to get addicted to. Isn't very expensive either!
The coaching staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The St. Paul BJJ Academy culture is vey supportive and welcoming. This is a great learning environment for beginners and experts. The facilites are new and very clean.
St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is a great place to start your BJJ journey! The instructors are knowledgeable and good at explaining techniques. Everyone I have meet there has been helpful and welcoming. This is a great place to learn and grow your BJJ skills.
This is a great place to practice BJJ. The head coach Brandon truly cares about being an effective teacher. In the little time I've been there he's already made tweaks to how he runs his classes in an effort to improve the learning experience. He seems to constantly be looking for ways to do better and it shows. Not only are the instructors great, so is the community they've been able to foster. There's a real culture in the gym of everyone being welcoming and helpful. There's no shortage of people looking out for you to help you improve. Starting a new hobby is always intimidating but they've managed to take the edge out of it. I highly recommend this place if you're looking to get into BJJ!
I've been a member of this gym for about a year and a half and before that I trained at other gyms. I can say that head coach, Brandon, takes the art of teaching more seriously than any instructor I've ever trained with. He is sincerely dedicated to the improvement of all the students in this gym. You can find a lot of reasons why you should learn BJJ all over the internet and this is a great place to put that into action.
Would love to join 😍 love MMA
I truly didn't know what to expect when I joined St. Paul BJJ, but I was blown away. The people here are amazing, the coaches are so knowlegable, and this truly feels like the perfect environment to learn BJJ. Coach Brandon runs a top notch gym with a hands on approach. You never feel left out and get the attention you need to learn even in larger class sizes. Truly life changing in the best of ways. If you're on the fence, at least give the free trial a shot. I'm sure you'll be hooked as I was. Side note: I'm a truck driver by trade and my back had been bothering me even though I stay in shape through cardio and weights. Since starting my back pain had vanished. I feel like BJJ gives me that extra edge I need to stay fit and healthy.
This is an awesome gym! The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and meticulous when teaching technique. The gym has a fun atmosphere and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Everyone is willing to help you if you have any questions.
Fantastic gym! Very helpful and knowledgeable instructors, good environment for rolling, clean gym/changing rooms.
I just started. I met some great people. Everyone who was new with me signed up... We chatted it up before class. The instructors and participants were great to meet and were generally interested in my history. I felt bad having to take 10m breaks total though. I'm 230lbs and pretty fat, lol. Drink water before hand. It's a weekly payment. No contract too! Competitive, but you can't beat the flexibility in the schedule! I'd doing Ju Jitsu. Can't wait to see you
I started about 7 months ago, I fell in love the first day. Coaches are knowledgeable and supportive. The training partners are amazing. If I need help learning or drilling something, my teammates are more than happy to help. Being in an environment where everyone is evolving, really brings out this euphoric energy. This is truly my happy place!
Great coaches that really care. Made it easy for BJJ to become an important part of my life
They have a gift for meeting you at your level and helping you to improve with each class. Every coach is skilled and patient. Variety of class times is very helpful. Highly recommend.
I have trained BJJ all over and this gym stands out as one of the best. The head instructor, Brandon, employs a teaching style that allows for extremely fast progress. I have met students here who have only trained for a few months that are better than students at other schools who have trained over a year. It is also an extremely clean facility and the members are great training partners and friends. I highly recommend this school for both beginners and those much further along in their BJJ journey!
This is an exceptional community and environment, whether you're new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or have been practicing for a while. I highly recommend this place; everyone is incredibly supportive and kind, always ready to assist you.
A 5-star rating for a 5-star Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.
People here are nice and patient for you to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Trained here for a couple days while in town. Clean and large facility, and tough but friendly rolls were had. Thanks Brandon!
Having a great time at this place.I highly recommend it.
My baby has been going to these classes for a year. And at first he had a bit of a rough start, but then he started to get into the swing of things. He has been here almost a year. It will be a year in July or August
Top instructors, history of excellence, very clean, and family friendly. I love this gym! If you or your family are looking to increase physical fitness, improve overall health, learn self-defense, train with top athletes, learn from the best in BJJ I highly recommend this gym!
I can’t imagine a better place to give Jiu Jitsu a try! I was nervous about trying it out but I’m so glad I walked through the Academy doors. The coaches and training partners are welcoming and friendly no matter the level of skill you have and there’s a real atmosphere of growth - learning is celebrated and the skills I’ve gained are empowering. Seriously this is the absolute best place to give Jiu Jitsu a try, you won’t regret it. 5 stars isn’t enough!
Joining St. Paul BJJ has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Wonderful coaching, well-kept facilities, and welcoming atmosphere. Perfect place to start your journey.
One of the best decisions I made in my life is to join the academy. I have learned so much from Coach Brandon and am excited to keep training and improving my game through his knowledge. The environment he has created in his gym makes you feel welcome, everyone is friendly and the instructors are great I would always recommend this to anyone looking to start Jiu Jitsu.
I've trained at different gyms around me and the St. Paul academy is by far the best. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, also everyone is willing to take the time teach .
I've been a student at the St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for about two years now, and have been putting off writing a review. At first, this was because I wanted to give it time before reviewing, then later, because it would take so long to type all of the good things I have to say (I'll try to be brief!) Firstly, I've been involved with many martial arts schools over the course of 15 years, including as an instructor of karate and TKD and most have been good experiences, but SPBJJA has stood out as the best. I can't think of a more positive learning atmosphere - a lot of work has been put into cultivating a culture where not only the coaches and staff are friendly and encouraging, but also fellow students. On that note, it is almost impossible to attend for an extended period of time without making a new friend. Both the atmosphere of this academy, and the nature of BJJ lend well to building trust and connections with others. This is a scarce commodity in the world today. I started this art in my mid thirties, in probably the worst shape of my adult life. It's been challenging. It's even been frustrating at times, but there's an old saying that nothing worth having comes easy, and BJJ is a living illustration of that. The physical and mental exercise has definitely helped with my focus and sense of wellbeing on and off the mats. It doesn't hurt that I've lost 15 pounds since joining. Through the challenges, the staff and students have been nothing but encouraging, not only cheering me on, but also expecting my best. I have always believed the martial arts are incredibly beneficial in terms of character building; BJJ is an excellent art for this, and the SPBJJ Academy is an excellent place to learn it!
If your cosidering BJJ for your youth. St.Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy has a very good youth program. The youth will have fun, and learn skills of the sport. My son is 8yrs old; has been going to this academy now for little over a year. He has gained a lot of personal confindence which has helped him created relationships with others. He has also learned dicipline which helps at home and school. He has also competed twice, and placed twice in his tournments with the skills and tecniques he has learned. With that i encourage those to come check this BJJ academy out. Great place with positive energy awesome coaches.
I walked in here on a whim after not liking the vibe at another gym. I have never been to a place where it is so easy to fit in. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I am somebody who has 0 martial arts experience and little athletic ability, and I was immediately hooked onto this sport. The gym is lively as there are always new people coming in each week, so you will not be the only beginner, and the great coaching will ensure you are not clueless for long. Each and every class has participants of all shapes, sizes, genders, and backgrounds. Some gyms have rather limited times that they hold class, but whether you need early morning, mid-day, or evening classes, this gym can accommodate your schedule
I've been here about two months, and I have been loving this gym and the sport of BJJ. Coach Brandon is an outstanding teacher, with a passion for the sport and a natural talent for breaking down complex techniques. The gym itself is clean, outfitted with high-quality mats, and populated by a welcoming and supportive community. I couldn't be happier to have found this gym and this group of competitive and outgoing members.
I have been running and lifting weights since I was a teenager to stay in shape. As I got a bit older going to the gym to lift and run was no longer doing the trick for me mentally. The standard exercises were no longer giving me the mental clarity I was looking for. So instead of allowing my mental and physical health to decline, I went on a search for alternative exercises. Thankfully, I found St. Paul BJJ Academy. St. Paul BJJ Academy has beautiful mats, great instructors, and morning and evening classes. Since starting my mental and physical health has improved tremendously. At St. Paul BJJ Academy everyone is welcome! What is better than a great exercise on top of learning how to defend yourself? St. Paul BJJ Academy is 100% worth dropping in and checking out a free class.
I've been training here at St. Paul BJJ for a few years now and it's one of the best decisions I've made. The facility, coaches, students, and atmosphere make this place feel like a second home. The supportive learning environment makes it easy for me to recommend this gym for anyone!
Great academy. Coaches are very thorough explaining positions, you can tell they want each student to get better. 10/10 would recommend.
StP BJJ is a great place to learn and practice BJJ. The instruction is top notch from top notch practitioners. Coaches Brandon, Zach, Will, Adam, and others are great teachers and have a great way to show and practice. The training partners are great as well with everyone being kind and respectful. Finally, the facilities are top notch, clean and bright! I would invite anyone to stop in.
I've been training here for 2.5 years and it has far exceeded my initial expectations. Regardless of your motivations for joining Coach Brandon has designed the curriculum to cater to you. Everyone from high level grapplers focused on competing to people just looking for exercise and a sense of community, its all here for you. Jiu Jitsu will change your life.
St. Paul BJJ Academy is an excellent place to train Jiu jitsu. If you have no experience or if you have plenty of years of experience. The community is always very friendly and welcoming. You can tell head coach Brandon lives and breathes Jiu jitsu and his classes and attention to detail really show that. The other coaches are great as well, always staying late and answering any questions we might have. I cannot recommend it enough!
Training jiu jitsu here is such an amazing experience. The leadership starting with Brandon and all staff/coaches is honestly second to none with any organization I’ve been a part of. The communication, instruction on the mat, passion for growth not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well makes St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy a place that I would recommend to anyone. The community of people there are awesome and I am so grateful to be a part of it!
I have been a member for almost 3 months. Nothing but friendly staff and members. Classes/instruction that are easy to understand and build off one another. Not to mention a great workout.
I walked into the academy with 0 BJJ experience. From day 1 I have benefited physically, emotionally and as a person. It has been about 4 months and I am surprised at how much I have learned already. I have seen a noticeable difference in my strength and endurance. The workouts are clear and well taught. Class is run at a moderate pace, geared towards learning but still provides a good workout, and there are additional optional opportunities for a higher intensity match if I need it. My classmates are friendly and helpful. They offer convenient class times and a well kept modern facility. My kids have a great time at the kids class.
I was with SPBJJ in the early days, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Brandon always pushed us to get better, and although I no longer study BJJ, I still admire this place.
Great gym with a great atmosphere for learning the sport of jiu-jitsu.
All around excellent gym. Great facility, very helpful and competent coaches, and awesome, supportive teammates!
My 8-year-old son and I started attending BJJ classes about 3 months ago. I was hoping that adopting a martial art practice would help my son learn to stay focused and get him additional physical activity and socializing. The team of coaches at the St. Paul BJJ Academy has been nothing short of amazing. They are very patient and friendly, yet they also find ways to instill discipline in their students. We could not be happier with our experience so far. We would gladly attend our respective classes every single day if that were practical. We love our newfound BJJ family!
I've really enjoyed training and being a member at St Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. The coaches are welcoming and the atmosphere is fun, friendly and safe, and the instruction and training are fantastic.
What to expect when new to Jiu Jitsu If you have been reading many reviews, then your probably serious about trying Jiu Jitsu. You will at least want to find a place with a dedicated foundations program. These classes show the basic submissions, chokes, escapes and sweeps all at your own pace. When you’re ready, you can move on to mastery classes with dedicated time to roll against other skill levels. These classes build on the basics and are of a higher intensity level. If you are thinking of signing up consider The Academy - Saint Paul BJJ, they have a great curriculum and dedicated classes for beginning or advanced students. At The Academy classes usually have several instructors (both teaching and taking classes) so the student to teacher ratio is always high. Don’t worry about coming in as a beginner either, everyone there has been through it and you will always get an encouraging word. The Academy hosts a great family atmosphere and even has kid’s classes! Fun for the whole family.
If you have ever thought about training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but thought maybe you were too old to start or you retired and are looking for a new challenge in your life then do yourself a life changing favor and come to the Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy and train with Coach Brandon. It doesn’t matter what age you start, BJJ is for everyone. At the Saint Paul BJJ Academy you will find a place that will help you reach not only short-term goals but also set you on a path to reach your long-term goals. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will challenge you but with the team that Coach Branden has assembled you will be able to reach those goals. I began training in my late 50’s after retiring from law enforcement and needed a challenge in my life and I found it with Coach Branden and his coaching staff at the Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. You will not find a better group of people to train with from the coaches to the men and women who train here at the Saint Paul BJJ Academy.
Cleanliness: one thing that sticks out about this school is it is literally immaculate. You can tell the coach and staff take extra time to keep their academy clean. There is nothing worse than rolling on a mat and getting hair in your mouth. This place also has phenomenal instructors that not only teach the technique, but the how, why, and when behind it. I believe that principle and concept based instruction really helps elevate your students to new level. This school is hands down one of the best in the area.
I made the decision to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the St. Paul Academy almost six years ago and never looked back since. Initially I was simply curious in learning some basic self-defense techniques but I was quickly sold on the welcoming atmosphere, the healthy and humbling balance between people of different backgrounds and purposes, and the exceptional teaching methods of Coach Brandon and the team. Jiu Jitsu is a great discipline for those who enjoy sports, sharpening their minds and their bodies, and most importantly having fun and you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to train than the St. Paul BJJ Academy!
Everyone here is incredible. There are multiple levels of classes and the schedule makes the only reason you aren't on the mat you. They recently remodeled. Check it out, try something new, get a workout, have fun.
Great place to train great for beginners or even the most seasoned experts! clean facilities nice new equipment and coaches are amazing patient and full of knowledge
Couldn’t be happier about my decision to join the academy over a year ago. Not only has my Jiu jitsu improved, but I have more confidence in my personal and professional life as well. Thank you Saint Paul BJJ Academy!
My son has been going to BJJ for a few years now, working his way through belts and building skills, confidence, and muscles. I am so happy that he is engaged with this warm and inspiring community.
St. Paul BJJ Academy has been essential to developing my son's physical confidence and capabilities. Excellent instructors with phenomenal instincts working with children.
First off, if you're thinking of trying BJJ, just do it and The Academy is an amazing place to start. They give you the opportunity to dip your toes in to see if it's right for you but you will probably just want to jump in once you get the chance. The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming with a staff that is dedicated to helping you along your journey to achieve your goals. The coaches even take an extra step to check in with you from time to time and that shows me just how much they care. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, there is a space for you here. I actually looked at this gym last year but then covid hit and I put the thought on hold. I wish I would've started sooner but now I've been at this gym for almost 3 months and this has quickly become one of my happy places. No matter what goes on in my daily life, I can focus on my training for the day and end up in a fantastic mood when class is over. I had no formal training before this and trust me, I was so nervous to roll with anyone. Being a female, I was also afraid of the size/strength difference but all those fears have been laid to rest. Everyone is here to learn and we do that together. Now, I have the confidence to seek out people to roll with and I look forward to rolling with my instructors when given the chance. It's easy to see this place as a family, even though I haven't been here long. So my advice to you, take that leap and try something new. You'll be surprised at what you can accomplish with this incredible team in your corner.
Moving to Minnesota from Florida and New York as a black belt and coming two very competitive schools (Team Renzo Gracie and Team Gracie Barra) I wanted to make sure I chose somewhere that my abilities would continue to grow and flourish. I have no doubt in my mind that I found the perfect fit for me at St Paul Bjj. St Paul BJJ led by coach Brandon Bergeron is teaching jiujitsu in a way that will ensure its students excel at each and every rank they hold along their journey to black belt. Coach Brandon and his staff approach jiujitsu in a way that challenges the mind and body while also presenting tangible goals for each individual student. Coming to any school as a black belt the goal is always to make sure your growth continues for many years. Thanks to coach Brandon and my team mates I have no doubts this is true.
I have trained at many gyms over the years and I cannot brag enough on Brandon and the entire staff and community here. It is very technically based and welcoming to everyone. As a woman, I have always felt extremely comfortable training here and I would recommend it to anyone, beginner or advanced, who is looking to train BJJ.
St Paul BJJ is an excellent spot to train. The staff quickly opened up and made me feel at ease trying out BJJ. I've met a lot of friendly people, get regular excersize and it's cool learning something new each class.
Excellent coaching and very supportive community!
Starting Jiu Jitsu at the tender age of 48 with no prior martial art experience at all, I feel incredibly lucky to have found the best Jiu Jitsu school in town!! Coach Brandon and the entire coaching staff have created a fun and exciting environment, where we learn the art of Jiu Jitsu from amazing teachers and training partners who treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter what your skill level may be. After two years of training and earning my Blue Belt, I am physically and mentally transformed in positive ways that are hard to describe. Jiu Jitsu is now part of my life and I look forward to continuing training with Coach Brandon for as long as I possibly can. Highly recommended! Two thumbs up!!
I have been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over a decade now, and I have visited several different gyms in that short time. I can say the Academy has an incredible and diverse team atmosphere, with fantastic training partners and friends. The instructor is top notch at explaining things thoroughly, and he has a wealth of valuable knowledge of the art, and a lot of interesting life experiences to go with it. If you are curious about Jiu Jitsu, and looking for a gym that will let you grow at your own pace, this is the place to check out. Highly recommend it!
They have some of the best instructors, and an amazing atmosphere for learning. The way they structure their classes offers a great way to learn. The Academy seems to attract quality people to the gym, as there are a lot of great people to train and learn with.
Very great academy, and great teachers! My son was the youngest student and the older kids helped him out. He has gained jiu jitsu skills and also is a better more focused listener. I plan on taking classes someday as well. Great place!
Coach Brandon was one of the best jiu jitsu coaches I've ever had. I've been to 2 other schools in the area and none of them were as up to par as Brandon's coaching. Not to mention, the community he's built. Everyone treated each other like family. And they welcomed me with open arms Unfortunately I have to move away. Or else I'd train here forever
I started jiu jitsu early on this year. Everyone at the academy is friendly, helpful, and extremely welcoming. There's a strong sense of community and everyone is committed to learning and helping others to learn and improve as well.
If you like to learn practical self defense and get fit while doing it, then this is the place for you! Disclaimer* you get what you put in, result may vary.
When I decided I wanted to try Jiu Jitsu, I did a lot of research and read reviews for a lot of different gyms in the Twin Cities area. I was in terrible shape both mentally and physically so I wanted to find a place with a welcoming, supportive atmosphere. The St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy had an overwhelming amount of reviews talking about how positive the culture was so I signed up for the free trial. From day one those reviews were proven correct. To this day, every training partner I've ever had from Coach Brandon himself down to a white belt taking their first class has been friendly, supportive, patient, and eager to learn. A little over 8 months in I'm down more than 100 lbs and in a much better place mentally. I can't recommend this gym highly enough, both for the culture and the extremely high level martial arts training. I've not competed yet myself but in the time since I've been here, at least a dozen of my teammates have won medals in tournaments using techniques specifically taught to us at the Academy. From the culture, to the level of instruction, flexible class times, cleanliness of the facilities, and access to the vast dvd instructional library I truly believe this is the best Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. If you're just trying to get in shape or if you're already in great shape and want to learn to protect yourself this is the place for you.
This is not only just a class and an Academy but also your new home where all the instructors and students are like a family. Everyone here do their best to help each other learn and grow . Highly recommend this facility if you are interested in training and learning the art of Jiu Jitsu.
This is the most welcoming and clean martial arts facility I've encountered. Whether you're a black belt who's visiting or relocating, or someone who is looking to start jiu jitsu (like I was), I highly recommend this academy!
Even though I am brand new to the art of jujitsu I am already in love with it. The coaches and other students here are all so welcoming, the gym itself is very clean, and the mats are very thick so the falls don’t seem to hurt so much... lol...I highly recommend this gym for anyone interested in trying jujitsu, you won’t be disappointed!!!
Jiu Jitsu is awesome, fun and amazing. I would highly recommend that you check the St. paul bjj academy out. You honestly have to really see it for yourself no amount of reviews can really do it justice. The staff is really amazing, the students are just as amazing. I can’t stress how much you really have to see it for yourself. Good luck future teammates!!.
Favorite part about this gym is the variety. Variety of people, body types, training styles, demographics, etc. It creates a welcoming and fun environment, plus the option to train hard and see how far you can take it.
Coach Brandon has fostered a safe, positive and clean environment at St Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. His aptitude to teach BJJ to all levels of ability is superb. Now, I cannot speak for other BJJ gyms (only heard horror stories) since I’ve not been anywhere else, but I can never see myself training anywhere but here. The other students and assistant coaches are the most welcoming I have encountered for being a transplant to MN. Come train with us!
From the moment I walked in the instructors and staff have been nothing but nothing short of exceptional. The fellow students are very welcoming to the new and inexperienced. The facilities and mats are always very clean. If I could give them 10 stars, I would!
St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great place to train. I always look forward to coming to class.
When I showed up at the St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy six months ago, I quickly found a home. Head coach Brandon Bergeron has established a culture of respect and support that promotes the best parts of BJJ. Academy members are quick to welcome newcomers and happy to provide advice and support. The people are genuinely nice. The instruction is terrific. Coach Bergeron, a black belt, is a natural teacher. He holds a deep knowledge of jiu jitsu and explains even complicated techniques in simple terms. He provides lots of personal instruction as well. The facility is wonderful. The mats are high quality and clean. Last week the Academy installed new wall mats. The doors are open for classes throughout the day and week, so it’s easy to find a time to roll. Academy members excel in competition. Members earned multiple golds at a recent IBJJF competition in the Twin Cities. And the Academy offers special training for those focused on winning medals. I’m grateful to have such a wonderful place to study BJJ.
Amazing coach, facilities and community. For a drop in or anyone looking for a long term hobby/sport.
The St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is a great place to begin or continue Jiu Jistu. Coach Brandon is an ideal instructor who gives detailed guidance, is patient with his students, and his optimism reassures you that you are capable of mastering Jiu Jistu given time and consistency. The facility is also well maintained, large enough so you're not running into others, and classes or open mats are scheduled at multiple times a day, seven days a week. This gives someone who is busy an opportunity to not only invest in a workout that fits their schedule, but also one that builds self-confidence while learning the practical skill of self-defense. Whether you are looking to try something new or have already been training in Brazilian Jiu Jistu, I highly recommend the St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.
Excellent place and great Coaches!
My name is Chou Heu and I am 32 years old. I have been training at Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for about 8 weeks at the time of this writing. I have been blessed with the opportunity to train five times a week. If I have attended about 30 training sessions so far and I have enjoyed every single one of them. My nephew joined me on a tour and we signed up immediately after a quick demonstration of a few techniques. The coaches are friendly, the mats are clean, and the comradery is unlike anything I have been involved in. I currently have a personal trainer for two sessions per week at a local gym and this is without a doubt a better value. I will not only learn how to defend myself, I will get fit while doing it. I have since cancelled by personal training contract at the local gym and I am finishing up my personal training sessions. I am currently in the foundation program, but I believe, when the time is right, I will be invited into the mastery program at the academy. Overall, I highly recommend Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. If you need a place to train or happen to be interested in BJJ and you are in the twin cities, come on by. I hope to see you on the mats one day, not as an opponent, but a training partner.
I was In St. Paul working for a week and I trained here. The instructor Brandon is very good and teaches from a conceptual technical point of view. The other students were very nice. Brandon treated me like I was a member and answered some specific questions I had about the evening position and movements. great place. if your in the St. Paul you should check it out.
A great combination of rigorous standards and welcoming atmosphere. Brandon is an excellent and effective instructor who genuinely cares about each of his students, and that ripples out in the way team members support each other to improve every day. Check it out!
Great atmosphere, Adam was great at giving us an introduction to the sport
I've been training at Brazilian jiu-jitsu Academy for about 2 months. Coach Brandon is a great guy. He makes the gym very welcoming. All of the people are friendly. Which makes it a good and fun place to learn jiu-jitsu.
You have to check out Brazillian Jiu Jitsu at this academy! Two years ago I didn’t have a clue what Jiu Jitsu was. I was 54 years old looking for an engaging way to stay healthy and be interested in exercise at the same time. I heard about BJJ from a leadership podcast with a heavy emphasis on strategy and problem solving. It sounded like a mind game acted out physically. I was intrigued by a game that sounded like chess with all the layers mixed with a great workout. Without any martial arts experience and never being an athlete, I went to an introduction where I met Coach Brandon and learned some moves. I was hooked. As a new White Belt, I learned so much with every class. It was physically challenging but so much fun. There was a great sense of camaraderie as strangers became my friends and rolling partners. There were no egos but a bunch of great people getting better at their game. After 20 months, I have lost 30 pounds, developed a new level of mental resilience, and feel confident in my ability to defend myself. I have entered two competitions against guys 20 years younger than me and brought home some hardware. I was privileged to be promoted to Blue Belt this last week. This is all possible because of the great teaching at St Paul Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Academy and the rolling partners I train with every week. Coach Brandon has created a gym where we have fun, are challenged to grow, all while we mix it up with great people. The gym is clean, the environment is positive, and the instruction is great. Check it out. You won’t be sorry.
Great teacher and great atmosphere.
The reason for the low review is the fact that they fought very hard to continue to bill me and charge me fees despite the fact I was deployed for the military. I have been deployed before, and St Paul BJJ fought harder, and continues to fight me, about billing more than any other organization I have ever known.
Very louse group instruction and not worth the money. New and inexperienced students are paired up with others who have no experience and get nothing out of the class. Definitely not worth the $
