The best of all worlds. Traditional arts have a good reputation of instilling confidence and discipline as well as physical fitness. More modern styles of MMA and BJJ are touted as being more "realistic" for self defense. Kyokushin seems to hit that sweet spot of offering the best of both. After training traditional arts in my early years, and more modern combat sports later in life, this art really has something for everyone. And this dojo in particular is one of the best Ive been to. A very knowledgeable and experience head instructor that focuses on teaching not only what works, but what works for you. He understands every body is different. It's the toughest thing you will ever love. Yes, Kyokushin has earned its title as "the toughest style of Karate", and Shihan Dennis will make you tough...but not at the expense of your safety. I cannot recommend this dojo enough.
Posted 3 months agoWe have been part of the Dojo family for over a year. The instructor teaches with passion and gives each student their time deserved. My son is 8 and has recently earned his blue belt. Its a good home for the kids to learn the meaning of respect and discipline. Thank you Sensei Dennis for making this an enjoyable experience for everyone. OSU!!

Posted 3 years agoThis is a beautiful studio in a great location! It is clear that Sensei Dennis is passionate and devoted to this academy. He is one of the most friendly people you will ever meet, and I am sure he runs his academy to make everyone feel included and like they can learn a new art regardless of age/skill level. Would recommend Sensei Dennis and Southwest Academy to anyone.
