Great facility, great training, and a phenomenal culture. There's nothing better than training with a group of people who feel like family. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for high-level Jiu-Jitsu and new friendships.
Amazing staff. Great coaches, amazing program. Would definitely recommend. For boys and girls.
I have been training at South Valley Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 2 years. It is a phenomenal place to train and is one of the best things I have done for myself. They have classes Monday through Saturday with times that fit almost any schedule. Having access to the morning class at 5am has made it easy to train while not taking time away from work or family. The facility is always clean and the people are welcoming!
BBJJ wouldn't accept my grandson for some reason. Came to SVJJ and was surprised by the cleanliness of the school. Grandson loves it!!!
Very friendly people; great instructions; lots of class options am and pm; easy sign-up/ check-in app
This a friendly and safe training environment. Higher belts focus on helping everyone learn techniques without harming training partners. The vibe you want in a great gym.
I’m from AZ and came to visit family for the summer holiday. I didn’t want to miss out on any training, so I reached out in advance to see if it was okay to drop in. I was able to attend the Thurs 630pm class to train and everyone was very welcoming. I learned a lot from Coach Jess and got some good rolls in as well. If you live in the area and want to learn BJJ, I’d definitely recommend this school!
I’ve been training here for about 2 years. The instructors are great, they go above and beyond. The people are super friendly. This is the best decision I have ever made in my life, hands down. They’re are more than professors or friends, they are FAMILY.
The facility are clean and organized. The professors are great and go above and beyond. They focus on teaching great skills to the students. They teach respect, self respect, how to build self esteem. I like how they check the kids report cards and make sure that they have been good at home, because it is important that the kids see training as a privilege.
I walked through the doors at SVJJ nearly three years ago. I was really just looking for exercise and to learn something new for myself. Little did I know that I had messed around and joined a family. A family of like minded individuals from all walks of life. The men and women here are welcoming, tough, and caring, many have become what will turn out to be life long friends. Not only have I joined a family, and met many friends for life, I have met myself. I have met myself on the mat on more than one occasion and when I thought I was happy with that new person I had met, one of the others here introduced me to my new self over and over and over again. There is no quit in these guys and I can't appreciate the gift they have given me enough. I cannot wait to get my grandchildren involved with the kids program here. I know that they will grow into hunters and not gatherers once trained here.
Amazing place to train, AM and PM classes, Professors offer top notch instruction, Kids and adult classes available, and extremely clean school.
SVJJ is a great place to come learn Jiujitsu whether you have been training for quite some time or are just trying it out for the first time. The instruction is top notch and always a good time to be had. Can’t recommend this school enough.
Great academy. Very clean. Not just a great coach on and off the mat but a close Great friend. I have my own jiu jitsu academy and without Tommy littles help and support i wouldn’t be where I am now 💪🏼💪🏼👊🏼👊🏼. This is the only Academy I recommend if they want to try another academy.
I have trained and taught at SVJJ for over 10 years. SVJJ is a Jiujitsu school that provides a platform for learning and development. SVJJ instructors, as well as its students, are kind and welcoming. I am very proud to be apart of South Valley Jiujitsu
I found SVJJ after driving by for a long time and decided I would try out jiu jitsu. I had several questions, so I gave them a call. The owner Tommy picked up and walked me through the exact process of coming to a class. When I showed up that afternoon, he came up and introduced himself, showing me where everything is and helped me find a gi that fit. During class, he made sure to take time to check on me and my well-being. He would demonstrate something and then come over to make sure I understood how to do it. I would recommend this for anyone of any age. There is not a finer group of people to train with.
My sons and I have been going for several years now. The people in the gym have become like family. The kids class has been exceptional. Especially for my oldest son. They hold them not just accountable on the mat but in life and school. It’s been great to have Mike and the coaches partner with me and help keep my boys accountable.
Great place to learn Everyone is welcoming and takes the time to teach. The place is immaculate. Very clean huge location. If you know bakersfield heat, go hear. The instructors are very patient and practice what they preach. They really ensure you grow and learn. You won’t regret it
My girls have trained here for several years and we love it. This is a clean, safe school with excellent instruction and constant supervision by highly trained coaches. I encourage anyone to try SVJJ and see if it’s for you, too. This is a second home and family for us.
I'm returning after a few years from a "blue belt curse" with my son who now is a freshman high school. The school have changed a lot, but all the friendly faces are still there and coach Tom is still passionate about teaching jiu jitsu as ever. I remember how South Valley have change my body and soul. At 52 yrs old, with God willing I hope I can do jiu jitsu at South Valley forever.
My daughter and myself have been going here for 2 yrs. Instructors are great, and the the kids program is the best I've seen.
My son Drew has been training here for the past 7 years. Awesome coaches and clean facility. They not only teach kids self defense but they also teach them to be respectful, responsible, and accountable. Highly recommended!!
My girls have been going to SVJJ for almost a year now. The kids program is absolutely fantastic and the coaching staff is second to none. Very happy that my kids are in this program.
Great place. My 6 year old son has been training here since May and loves it. I really like how their hands on with the kids teaching them respect, self defense, bully proof, and how their student-athletes and the student comes first so they need good grades to train there I also like how they do the flag salute before every class and shake hands at the end of every class
My husband and I love bringing our daughter to South Valley Jiu Jitsu and more importantly she loves training there. The instructors and kids are incredibly kind and welcoming. My daughter is on the younger side of the kids class but the coaches and other students have always had so much patience with her. Coach Mike goes above and beyond to make sure his students are successful both in jiu jitsu and in the classroom. We would not go anywhere else.
Absolutely amazing jiu jitsu school. My daughter has trained there for over 2 years. The instructors are hands down amazing people. I would recommend south valley to anyone!!!!
My kids have been going to SV for a few years now. And they love it. The facility are clean and organized. The professors are great and go above and beyond. They focus on teaching great skills to the students. They teach respect, self respect, how to build self esteem. How to be bully proof and so much more.
Been training at South Valley for a while now and can't begin tell you what jiu jitsu and the men that train there have and continue to do for me and my life. Great family environment and excellent real world Jiu Jitsu techniques that work in both street/self defense and tournament situations. Excellent kids program with the best kids coaching staff in town. Kids will learn life skills, respect, and discipline and have fun doing it. Not to mention it's the nicest, cleanest facility in town.
It was great. The instructors are patient and serious about teaching and yet they create a fun atmosphere that inspires one to learn!
First word that comes to mind is brotherhood. I have made some life long friendships at SVJJ. Second is Tommy Little's training techniques are priceless. Great place to train.
They have the best coaches, they take their time to make sure you understand what you are doing and why you are doing each move.
I came here for the two week trial after having friends recommend BJJ to me. I have taken Karate and Judo in the past (even won in tournaments) and decided to see how different BJJ is. The facility is nice, staff is friendly. Pricing seems on point for a BJJ membership. But after a few days I realized it wasn’t for me. Now just to preface this review is for my personal experience, and many people might like BJJ for the aforementioned reasons I didn’t. This isn’t a personal judgment on any trainers as they are very experienced and are great at BJJ. There isn’t a beginner class for adults. They throw you in with experienced students who can easily beat you in one on one matches. I get why this is done to help immerse people in BJJ, but after losing EVERY match and having to crab walk a total of 12 times around the mat, it felt more like a punishment to me than a learning experience. Of course I lost, as I’d never taken a BJJ class before. And I didn’t want to come here only to crab walk. The attitude of the other students seemed like they were embarrassed I was there losing every match, and wondering why it “didn’t click” with me after 10 minutes. Well of course not, it’s my first class! Seems like more of a “crypto bro” environment (explain hard things to people expecting them to instantly get it and be 100% obsessed with it). Definitely not a causal environment and more Cobra Kai. If you want to try BJJ this studio is great. But if you’re not ready to commit 100% to it then maybe reconsider.
Our kids (5 & 7 year olds) were going here the last several months, but we had to pull them out. They initially enjoyed it, liked the kids they met there, and loved a lot of the instructors, but they started telling me the kids would get hit there. I thought they meant during the practices, but they said it wasn’t. My husband and I sat in for a portion of the next one and we saw the instructor the kids called “Nick,” the main instructor, slap my 7 year old daughter across the face and our 5 year old son across the back of the head for not giving enough “eye contact” while they were slapping hands at the end of practice. I am not anti-discipline, but to give corporal punishment, as well as for something so petty, is inexcusable and unacceptable. This guy also critiques their report cards in front of everyone and shames the kids with less than perfect grades. It gets a little uncomfortable for them and the viewers. Ultimately, holding the kids responsible should be up to the parents, not the instructor. I get that having so many kids together can be like herding kittens, but I think this can be done without slapping them.
