I started training at Ferny Jiu Jitsu when I was around 14 years old. Greatest decision I had made. First week I wanted to quit, but Ferny picked me up and gave me a pep talk so I went back in and got back on the mat. Years later my brother and I came back to Ferny Jiu Jitsu and he was still welcoming with open arms, very supportive, a great role model, and makes sure everyone feels welcome. Here at FJJ we are a big family. We do seminars, celebrate birthdays, at the end of the year he gives trophy’s, medals, and a belt for those who have done a certain amount of tournaments, and many other things! One of the many things I see and know about Ferny is he always gives it his 1,000% all, goes above and beyond for not only the kids, but also the parent's, is always patient with everyone. I will never regret starting at Fern Jiu Jitsu. If you want to train with the best, start at FJJ!

We have been bringing our daughters to Ferny for one year and it has been a very good experience. He has a good team helping and the kids get a lot of experience from different kids from different weight and ages. Our kids have evolved as athletes and have received a warmed welcome to the team. Ferny is a marine Veteran and has his standards high from parents and kids, the way it should be. He is great role model and is a good person your children can be around.

Best decision I made for my kids!! Their self-confidence, fitness, and strength is top-tier all thanks to the elite instruction Coach Ferny gives them, and us. Yes, I meant us. Both my wife and I are also students at Ferny Jiu-jitsu. Coach Ferny and his academy brings families together and encourages to be their best selfs. Once I was told to put my kids in Jiujitsu and I was hesitant since I had no clue what Jiujitsu was. We checked different martial arts gyms. We found a flier for Ferny Jiujitsu and went to check it out a couple of days, my kids father knew this was the gym to stay and my girls started their Jiujitsu journey. It has been 7️⃣ years and I’m glad we did. One of the most significant benefits of learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides kids with the ability to defend themselves in various scenarios and teaches them how to control their opponents using technique rather than relying on brute force. I will always recommend FERNY Jiujitsu when asked about the best martial art for self-defense. This sport has provided my kids the tool of understanding of strength that this kid is going to pair up with other kids BIGGER and STRONGER and make her say: “size does not matter.”

The owner/Professor/Coach was very knowledgeable in what our kids were ready for. We took both for a free try out. Our eldest, he said he was ready for the mat. Our youngest, he said not yet, to wait another year for her. He could have said yes sign them both up, just for the money but he didn't. This helped me trust him in the beginning. A year and a half later, my husband, daughter and I have all joined my son on the mat. Why? Because this is a welcoming family environment that we get to be apart of. Ferny goes above and beyond not only for the kids, but the whole family with different events throughout the whole year. My son is coming up on 2 years of being there and I can already see a difference in his confidence. It's always free to try for your children or yourself. Kids classes are Tuesday-Friday 5:30pm-6:30pm. Adults classes are same days at 6:30pm-7:30pm

My kids have been going to Ferny Jiujitsu for over a year. One of the best decisions we’ve made for our kids is enrolling them in jiujitsu and having a coach who understands their needs. Highly recommend FJJ! My 6 year old son started summer of last year and absolutely loves it and looks forward to going to class. My husband recommended we go to Ferny and I am so glad we did. My sons confidence has soared and he has dealt with bullies and isn’t afraid of having to do so. He now knows how to defend himself. We’ve attended 4 tournaments and our son has had a blast at each one! Ferny cares about his students and supports them. The gym has a family atmosphere and supports one another. It’s very welcoming! My husband has experience with mma (he used to teach Muay Thai kickboxing) and wouldn’t pick just anyone to train our son. Our daughter will be starting as soon as she turns 4!

FJJ is the only wrestling based JiuJitsu school in Bakersfield. FJJ is one of the top schools in kids competition. Ferny pushes his students to compete in local and Southern California JiuJitsu tournaments.

I enrolled my kid 3 months ago here at ferny Jiu Jitsu and it was a wonderful decision that we made. It’s a life changing experience for the kids. He already went to his first tournament and did great and he is so pump and looking forward for the next tournaments This is a wonderful place to bring our kids and get to know everyone else. Nothing but love and respect and they all treated us like family I highly recommended bring your kids for a free tryout.

First time going to Ferny's class today, I had a great time! I'm almost 30 years old attending the adult class at 6:30, this was my first time participating anything like jiu-jitsu I have to say, the coach (Ferny), students, and environment really made it a comfortable experience for me. Especially being a beginner. I look forward to learning more about the sport from Ferny and getting into shape!

**update**it’s been 7+ years now and we are still part of this amazing team. I myself have even joined the team since my last review. Great place to be. Happy to still be part of this team We’ve been a part of this team going on 4 years now. If it wasn’t for the coach we wouldn’t have lasted this long. He’s the reason my kids keep going. Gym is very clean. Coach is easy to talk to. Great instructor. Great environment.

I have all my kids in Ferny's classes, they love it and so do I. Hes a great teacher with the little ones all the way up to the adults and prices are very very fair. He allows you to try a class for free before you start which is a cool way to check it out.. Its always clean and he's always very professional. I 100% recommend this gym for learning jiujitsu for fun or competition.

Tried a couple of other academies previously for my son and they weren’t a good fit. Ferny Jiu Jitsu was welcoming and my son took instantly to the other kids. Professor Ferny is awesome with the kids, he goes above and beyond for the kids at our academy. Highly recommend this academy.

This Academy has won several overall Team competition golds in the North American Sports Jiu Jitsu Federation tournaments 2016, 2017 and 2018. Team of the Year for 2018; Great Professor (Ferny) and the team reflects this. Check around and see how many other academy's have this many accomplishments. Especially in the time since its inception.

Ferny Jiu Jitsu is an amazing gym. My son has been attending Ferny's class for under a year and has gained so much, other than a good workout and winning medals. He has built confidence, learned self defense, discipline, and gained excellent mobility. Ferny is a great professor for adults, as well as for children. If you want a great and passionate Jiu Jitsu Coach, Ferny Jiu Jitsu is for you.

You're only part of the so called "family" if your promoting this guy on social media. Doesn't focus one on one with kids just let's kids wrestle for 1 hour to "burn energy". What a joke, save you're money!

Started out ok and then over a year later without missing class, seeing the true colors of the stories that I heard about the coach, when I started. I tried to give it a chance and support the best I could, however the coach is very childish and unappreciated of the parents who were supporting his business, doing extras such as buying him/ his daughter energy drinks and food during tournaments because he was always asking for them, and helping out when coach was gone with a overflowing restroom. Point of review is to make aware of the issues you will incounter, and make no mistake you will be told you never do enough. With the guilt trips. Parents pitched in to help fix coaches car bought him a coach of year belt to show appreciation and nothing still demands more. If you appreciate your customers or family as he calls it they will continue to be happy to help, but he goes as far to tell you what to write and or edit it if he doesn't approve. Is a big Red Flag to me. As a business owner I have never seen such selfish and ungrateful behavior from a person who claims to be a family. Or cares for the kids. His ego is the main reason for his struggle to keep students as I watched many parents walk away for the treatment received and we just did the same. Hopefully he learns to appreciate the people who were supporting him. Do not recommend
