Eighteen months later, under the expert guidance of the great Michael Kelso, I’ve developed a solid understanding of the fundamentals—more than I ever imagined I’d know about this specialized martial art. This is ELITE American Jiu Jitsu, taught in a systematic yet creative way that allows you to fully grasp both the science and the art of the discipline. Professor Kelso fosters a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, making you feel like a true member of his team. His goal isn’t just to have you mimic techniques, but to ensure you truly understand the principles behind them. For me, there’s no other place to train—where Professor Kelso goes, I go. Training under a black belt of his caliber is a rare privilege.

I've been training at Software for over a year and it's been an amazing experience. Professor Kelso is passionate about Jiu Jitsu and teaching it. The people there are friendly and always welcoming to new comers. Software is the perfect environment for learning jiu jitsu!

While visiting my brother in Nashville, I had the opportunity to roll with him where he studies Jiu-Jitsu. I am brand new to the art and I knew nothing of what I was doing. I was introduced to the Owner, Mike. Mike was kind enough to let me try Jiu-Jitsu for a couple nights. As someone who hasn’t had experience in any fighting style or art, I already consigned myself to defeat; I was rolling with people who had experience. To my surprise and pleasure, Mike took the time to tailor some training specifically to my inexperience. Mike was able to simply break down each technique into practical application and he made the whole experience for me easy to understand. Mike seemed incredibly interested in helping his students succeed and better themselves; he did not berate, yell at or insult anyone. He is a phenomenal teacher and has his students’ best interest in mind. If I lived in Nashville, I’d join this school in a heartbeat. I felt very comfortable and I had a great time rolling with my brother and those at Software. Thank you, Mike!

I’ve been training at software for six months ago and I have had a wholly wonderful experience. Professor Kelso provides patient, comprehensive instruction tailored to your ability and understanding. Every class builds upon former skills and makes sense. You’re never thinking “where did this come from?” It all flows together neatly. Coach Jess also provides helpful tips and tricks that break things down even further for new learners. I look forward to training at Software for years to come!

Choosing to train at Software Jiu-Jitsu was one of the best decisions I ever made! As a woman, I felt intimidated by the other gym I started at. Not the case with Software. Professor Kelso is professional, kind, and will push you hard in a way that is motivating and not punitive or disheartening. I've always felt physically and emotionally safe with him and his team. He breaks down each position to the basics so that you can learn maneuvers and submissions with safety and confidence. Professor Kelso doesn't tolerate unsafe moves, behavior, or bravado. Software Jiu-Jitsu gives you a strong knowledge base of jiu-jitsu, self-confidence, and a safe environment to grow in. 10/10 would recommend!

Review I’ve personally trained with Professor Kelso since starting jiu jitsu over 6 years ago. The saying in BJJ is that “Jiu Jitsu is for everyone”. It’s not entirely true. It’s a very tough sport. If you don’t have innate discipline, grit, and a strong unrelenting desire to grow physically and mentally you’re going to need a really good guide and teacher through your journey. If you’re reading this, you may have already found that person. In it’s short existence Professor Kelso and Coach Jessica have strategically shaped the culture and curriculum at Software to maximize the experience for every student. Every detail has been examined. And each detail shaped to maximize the experience of the student/customer. If you’re an experienced practitioner or new off the street, I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed by the experience and learning opportunity Software can provide.

Great leg lock class!! Kelso broke down the basics very well and even had a memo board with notes so that you could visualize the words while learning the movements. Very unique approach to teaching Jiu jitsu. Loved it!! Highly recommend this school!
