What a great place and welcoming environment that has been created here by Coach Phillip! Super clean, and I like how he has a changing room separate of the bathrooms. Top tier training in McDonough!

Amazing and fun experience learning jiujitsu from Mr. Smith. A great wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for new learner engagement. Definitely recommend for defense training, and a physical workout!

I stopped in for two days of training while on a work trip. The gym was clean and well maintained. Phillip showed some good techniques and the guys I rolled with were everything you would expect from a good bjj school. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely swing buy.

This place is outstanding! The instruction is fantastic and the people are even better. If you are a beginner or well into your training this is the place in Atlanta to train. You will not be disappointed.

I have been training at Smith Jiujitsu on and off as traveling student for 3 years. The Head instructor has a wealth of knowledge gained through extensive experience that he shares with everyone from the trial member to the veterans. Everyone that trains as a member has always been friendly to me, and the mats clean for great rolls. Would highly recommend for the new student looking to learn the fundamentals and the veteran practitioner looking for a comfortable home base.

Was traveling to McDonough for work and found Smith BJJ via Google close to my hotel. Decided to drop in for a morning class and wound up going back several times during my stay. Philip and David were great instructors, everyone in the gym was friendly and welcoming, and I was able to get some great rolls in. Can not recommend Smith BJJ enough!

I trained here a few days while working in town. This gym is of the highest quality both personnel wise and experience/knowledge of Professor Smith. He was extremely welcoming and treated me as if I had trained there years! I highly recommend this gym to anyone and everyone. I won’t soon forget how pleasurable my experience was training here.

I really love the classes and overall environment! As a female fighter, I've been in combat gyms for over 8 years and I have seen some things. Smith BJJ is literally a collection of all of the good things and lessons I've learned through the years and is the way BJJ should be. If you really want to grow your game to a Black Belt level, you have to be in a gym with belt diversity so that you can gain a long-term and short-term vision. The deep knowledge that's shared in every class is priceless and the exposure to all other belt levels has helped me gauge where I am and develop a vision for where I want to go in the next 12-24 months. The gym is clean which is awesome and they have classes that really fit any schedule. I also like that they use Zen Planner because it gives you a bit of insight into what you need to do to advance and instructors can look at your attendance. Another benefit is that they are part of Checkmat so if you travel that's a plus. Last but not least they have a mature coaching staff that actually manage classes and foster a positive class culture. I've gotten many a bloody nose and black eye on the mat so it's nice to have that accountability for myself and training partners. Whether you're a competitor or a hobbyist they will get you to the level you want to be, and this is rare in a gym. Usually it's heavily weighted to one side or the other.

Thankful for this gym opening up their facility to Wolfhunter JJC while we are dealing with the aftermath of a tornado. Phillip is a great instructor that is deeply involved in the jiu jitsu community. If you live in McDonough check it out, it will be worth it.

I remember my first ever class at this place. I walked in the morning and was immediately greeted by a smiling brown belt who showed me the ropes and told me all the essentials. There was only 2 other people there that day, both of which immediately made me feel very welcomed. The brown belt instructor was very patient and was very articulate, and was open for all the questions that I had. So far its been like this everytime I come to class. The culture here is amazing and the instructors are legit. Everyone is so willing to help and just bring good vibes all the time. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to start their jiu jitsu journey.

Have been at Smith BJJ with Professor Smith from white belt through Black Belt. My two kids pretty much grew up in the gym. Everyone is welcome from young competitors to us older folks just looking to stay active. Smith BJJ is family.

Smith BJJ is a wonderful gym to train and build yourself to be a better person. I’ve been here since April of this year, but the fellowship and family environment makes it feel as if I’ve been here for years. The facility is very clean with great people who truly invest in making you better. I can not say enough great things about this gym. I highly recommend training here, whether it’s permanently as member or just a drop in while visiting the town!

Been training here for about a year and have nothing but good things to say. Great hospitality and great group of guys to be around. Clean mats and no cases of ring worm from anyone since I’ve been training. Big deal in my opinion. Great spot

I am impressed with the Smith BJJ Academy. I stopped over for a couple classes when visiting family in Atlanta, Georgia this summer 2021. And this is what I thought about Professor Smith's school. Professor Smith runs a good school that's clean and self-defense based. He seems to follow a solid curriculum when teaching technique. He goes by a less is more approach when teaching self-defense and the ground game. You get alot of reps and practice when learning (refining) technique. His students are kind and friendly. No one has an ego. Most importantly everybody rolls safely. When rolling with professor Smith I felt like he was a high level practitioner of the art. Very technical and smooth. I also enjoyed talking to him. He seemed like a cool guy. We were able to find commonalities between us. I felt welcomed at every session. I truly plan on returning to the Academy when I return to Atlanta next time. If you're in the McDonough area, go check out the school. You will not be disappointed.

First time at this gym and I love it. I’ve been to a few other gyms down in Florida and have been looking for a new home and I think I found it. Awesome instructors.

2nd day in and let me tell you! I'm home.. Not only are the instructors very knowledgeable, but everyone is very friendly and make you feel welcomed as soon as you step thru the door. Havent done Jiu-Jitsu in almost 10 years, and coming back to an academy like this makes it very easy to get back into the swing. If you are looking to try it out, I highly recommend this place

Great place to train jiu-jitsu! My son has learned so so much! Not only has he started really loving jiu-jitsu but it has calmed him down and taught him focus and to be humble. I am very impressed with Phillip and would recommend it to anyone looking to put their child in jiu-jitsu!

My 10 year old just spent his first week doing BJJ with this Academy. It is great! Phillip is terrific for all ages and really has the background and experience that you can trust in a martial arts teacher. We look forward to training here for a long time.

Do not be fooled by schools that offer "some jiu-jitsu". Smith BJJ is a legitimate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school with a strong lineage in the art. They have a relaxed, family focused atmosphere. The owner and professor is knowledgable and very helpful whether you are brand new to the sport or you have years under your belt. This is a great school for adults, children, and families. I train there and take my kids there and feel very comfortable knowing that my kids are in great hands and learning solid techniques.

Guys what I'm trying to tell you here is that Smith BJJ is legit. Coach Smith has the experience and natural ability to bring out the best in those he is around. I've seen this first hand in the over two years that my two boys have been training under Phillip. My son came into Jiu-Jitsu lacking self confidence. It did not take long training at Smith BJJ for him to discover that he not only loved training, but he had that confidence inside him. As a parent there is nothing more awesome than seeing your children grow up. Who I allow to influence my children is not something that I take lightly I can say with one hundred percent certainty that if you have children and are considering getting them into martial arts you will not not be disapointed with Smith BJJ!

Fantastic BJJ training without the pressure of the MMA gyms. Great for all ages for self defense skills, getting in shape, or for tournament competition.

The inappropriate comments are overlooked and this is not the true core beliefs and values of BJJ at all. Disappointed with the coach and the parents.
