Our whole family loves Sigma! ALL of the instructors (Sensei Matt, Manny, Chris and Tim) are great with kids. All of the instructors have their own individual style, but I am consistently impressed that they are always patient, fun, funny, and engaging. Aside from keeping our kids physically active, I appreciate that they teach important concepts like discipline, gratitude and humility. Our 5 year olds love going to their martial arts class. There is also nice comfortable seating and wifi for parents to use while waiting for kids! I also love that these instructors are great with adults. I have never done kickboxing before but started kickboxing after seeing how great Sigma is with our kids. I appreciate that the instructors strike the perfect balance of encouraging and challenging. The adult classes have folks of all different skill levels, and they engage and coach each person according to their skill level.
Posted 8 months agoMy son (7 years old) has been in the aftercare program at Sigma since the start of the 2nd grade and absolutely loves it. He says going to Sigma is the best part of the new school year. The night after his first class, he put on his uniform back on and showed us everything he learned. He's fully engaged and committed it's so cute. It's remarkable the breadth and progress of skills he's learned over the past couple of months. The senseis make each class fun, lots of giggles can be heard from the waiting area. 10/10
Posted 10 months agoI'm so glad I found Sigma Martial Arts & Fitness. I've tried several other martial arts schools, but none were as welcoming, friendly, and willing to work with my personal skill level and needs as Sigma. And the membership rates are quite reasonable--much more affordable than a gym membership. If you're thinking of giving martial arts a try, or if you already have experience, try out a class at Sigma. You'll be glad you did!
Posted 1 year agoWide selection of classes that are all awesome with great instructors. Every class leaves me exhausted and full of endorphins. I really enjoy classes with Tim and Adam.
We have gone to Sigma for years and absolutely love the senseis and programming. My son goes to the after school program and has been having a great time. It’s structured, fun, and teaches kids important skills. Great karate studio for beginners and the experienced clients alike!
My daughter is in their after school program. All of the instructors are amazing and my daughter has fallen in love with martial arts. I am so grateful for the amazing care they provide. The strength and confidence my daughter gained is invaluable.
I’ve been training Jiu Jitsu at Sigma for almost a year now, and it’s been an amazing experience! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and push you to reach your personal best. The classes are challenging yet fun, and the gym has a great atmosphere that motivates me every time I walk in. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this place is perfect for building strength, confidence, and skill. Highly recommend it!
I’ve been taking Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai classes at Sigma for eight months now. When I walked in I was 54 years old, had played sports and was doing yoga and exercise classes at the gym, but I was a little bored and looking for something different. I definitely found it at Sigma. The level is just right for adults with day jobs. It’s always a good sweat for sure, but it’s more than that. The instructors are nice guys, but they also know their business, you’re learning real skills. You can get as much from it as you want - if you just want a fun workout, great. If you want to learn real skills, it’s there. I take Jiu Jitsu 4-5 mornings a week now, plus a couple of Muay Thai classes, and I absolutely love it. I’ve lost 10 lbs, and I’m definitely stronger, more mobile, and more flexible than I’ve been in years. I’d encourage anyone who’s curious to at least give it a try, you won’t regret it.
I've been coming here for almost a year and I love it! The place is super clean and has a lot of activities to choose from. I've been training with Adam and he is an amazing instructor, he makes classes very dynamic and practical. You will not get bored! Very personalized attention, always there to help you
Sigma Martial Arts is a great place to learn martial arts even if you are a beginner. The people are friendly, the facility is super nice/clean and they have a variety of classes and times to choose from. Training has been a blast and the Muay Thai coach there is fantastic - highly recommend
This is the cleanest martial arts and fitness center I've ever been to, out of all of New England.
Great Owner, Awesome instructors and high values on community and providing a service where it's beginner friendly while at the same time giving those who have experience more to reach for!
Recently started Muay Thai classes here with a background of 14 years in Kung Fu and Taekwondo, and I'm glad I did! Both the instructors and the community are top notch. Tim is a great teacher and always makes sure to spend time focusing on every individual in a class. Highly recommended!
My kids are attending the afterschool program for the second year and it has been a wonderful experience. The time they spend at Sigma is not only dedicated to having them progress in their karate and martial arts training, they have learned about respect and responsibilities as well as developed their self confidence in a way that has been absolutely unique to this experience. I could not be more grateful to the wonderful staff who are all amazing teachers and provide an inclusive and friendly environment for kids to thrive in. Sigma has fast become the cool place to be after school. I followed suit and have myself been taking kick boxing classes which have been a great workout and tons of fun for me as well. I highly recommend Sigma as a martial arts school for kids and adults alike.
My daughter (10 years old) has been going for about 6 months and loves it. Super fun, physically challenging and confidence enhancing. Highly reccomend.
Very family friendly. Practical skills are taught here. Instructors break everything down so that learning is both fun and easy. They give a good workout here for sure. I've seen events for the kids and they're a lot of fun. The community here is very nice.
Amazing coach, clean facility, nice and fun learning environment. Basically the best Muay Thai practice I ever had! Strongly recommended!!!!!
Nice, clean, professional space with good super nice people. Sensi Mo was wonderful and kind. I felt very comfortable there and it was a great workout.
Very clean, spacious, and a great selection of gear to use.
Better than I'd hoped. Sensei Mo is very polite and the facility was super clean. We made good use of the heavy bag room to work our strikes and the padded room was perfect for working our throws. Couldn't have been happier with our experience there.
Was extremely impressed with how clean the dojo was! The Judo Instructor Sesei Mo was very friendly welcoming and knowledgeable. Cant wait to go back.
I've been going here for almost a whole year, and I absolutely love the place. It's welcoming, fun, clean, and a great workout! The instructors are friendly and kind, they offer a lot of different classes, and it's great for both kids and adults. To me, it's a perfect middle ground between the extremes of super hardcore bro gyms that focus only on competition, and flakey programs that give you exercise but no real martial arts training. At Sigma, you get a great workout and you also learn good form and real techniques. Personally, it's helped me get into shape and grow my strength and endurance after a period of my life when I thought I'd never get back into shape.
This place is the best! They have a balanced mix of traditional and practical martial arts training. Their classes are always fun, informative and a great workout!
Impressive Place. Clean, Organized and Professional. The instructors are seasoned professionals and everything is at your own pace. All skills levels. Everyone just super nice and supportive. And awesome workout!
This is an awesome martial arts studio. The owner runs a clean operation, and the instruction is top notch. The entire place has been renovated with a front desk, a lounge like area, and private restrooms. The dojo is well appointed with safety padding on floors and pillars, and has floor to ceiling mirrors to check your form during classes. There is also a secondary yoga studio that has recently opened up. I hope all aspiring martial arts students and afficianados alike take note of this hidden gem!
I’d never done any martial arts before (unless you count a few months of children’s judo at age 6…) and was a bit apprehensive. But I needn’t worry; This is the best, most inclusive and at the same time incredibly effective training I have ever had! The teachers Tim and Matt are great - they tailor the exercises to each student’s level (from beginner to people who have done martial arts competitively). They are very patient but also challenge you when they know you can do it. They really know their stuff and help you understand why a certain technique is done that way, so you are not just blindly trying to copy. I started out doing adult martial arts, but liked the school and the style so much I have now also taken up Muay Thai. Both classes are a lot of fun. I am learning something new every time, and I’ve become much stronger (no more back pain, hurray!). For the quality of instruction, number of opportunities to train throughout the week and individual attention you get it’s really very good value for money. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Great new martial arts gym with very respectable senseis. Recommend taking classes, always a solid workout.
Update on May 2022. They also have super awesome kids program. My daughter trains with Sensei Tim today and she loves the class. Come sign up!! Joined Sigma since day 1. My whole family have been trained with Sensei Tim for years. He is extremely knowledgeable in many different martial art techniques. He is also super patient in answering all our questions and correcting our moves. Besides, Sensei Matt is super nice and experience in Kenpo and kata. The place is nice and everything is new. If you’re interested in martial art training I highly recommend joint Sigma.
This is a great place to learn karate for children the instructors have a lot a patience and they are also very professional and still make It fun for kids.
This is a great addition to Medford. The studio is clean and the instructors are phenomenal. There's a great sense of community and the atmosphere is welcoming for anyone who is new or has experience in martial arts, kickboxing, or mauy thai. Since joining the studio, I have been recommending it to my friends since I'm always learning so much here and growing my skills in martial arts.
Great new addition to the Medford Square neighborhood! The owner Matt is very personable and offers tidbits of knowledge interjected onto classes. It's obvious that he and my instructor Tim are very passionate about giving students a great experience as well as making sure that technique is being done right. Tim is a patient teacher working to make sure that the drill/technique is understood and instructs to make corrections to form. As a new student to martial arts I really appreciate their attention to detail, stories about their previous experiences and of course getting in a good workout! I have had nothing but a great experience and look forward to many more classes. If you are considering starting martial arts or just want a good workout in a positive setting, I highly recommend Sigma.
Sigma Martial Arts is bring back martial arts. Providing adult training that is practical in its application. They also have the experience and patients to work with kids. Between Sensei Matt and Sensei Tim individuals are in good hands if they have no experience or are a seasoned martial artist. They will provide you will new skill or sharpen the skills you already have. I have been training with Sensei Tim for 5+ years now and I am excited to continue to train with him.
I've been doing martial arts for 15 years, and have worked with Sensei Tim for 4 years. I'm delighted to train with him at this new, up-and-coming studio, and have also enjoyed the benefit of Sensei Matt's complementary expertise. They both know to teach you practical self-defense skills while also having a good time. I highly recommend this studio for both those new to martial arts and experienced practitioners.
I came here for an introduction to Jiu Jitsu and was very excited about it. However, when I arrived at 6:50 am for the 7:00 class, there was no one at the front desk. I waited there for 20 minutes, and nobody answered when I called or came to the front desk. It felt deserted. What a waste of my time.
Needs new blood, needs someone who can teach, be passionate about martial arts and understand social media. Not sure if the owner is just busy or not bringing on the right type of instructors. Not sure if I would recommend this place
They were great. Wile my son was taking classes, but they continue to charge month after month after he stopped and I cannot get anyone on the phone for my refund.
