I have been training at Mau Mau’s on and off for a few years, and it is always a great place to come back to. The BJJ program is welcoming and well-run. Same with the Muay Thai program under Kru Dave. Overall, solid place to train and grow, no matter your level.
Posted 1 year agoBeen training Muay Thai with coach Dave at Mau Mau’s for almost two years now. He has great knowledge of Muay Thai and makes every student feel welcomed, regardless of experience. The class is getting bigger over the past two years (more sparring partners :D !!) and I’ve seen many new students join the Muay Thai class and remain consistent. Not only is Coach Dave a great practitioner, he is also excellent at conveying his knowledge. I’ve improved a lot since training with him, and I hope to continue to do so.
Posted 1 year agoFantastic martial arts gym!!! Started my martial arts journey here. Can’t praise the staff of Prof. Mau Mau, Coach Bobby, Prof. Felipe and Kru Sully enough. Special shoutout to Kru who heads their Muay Thai program. Honestly recommend it heavily, especially if you suffer from anxiety. His style of coaching helps put you at ease and eases you into the martial arts community especially if you are a newbie.
Posted 1 year agoI've been taking the Muay Thai classes with coach Dave Sullivan for the better part of two and a half years. Coach Dave is the type of coach who will not just work on strengthening your weaknesses, but also refining your strengths. As someone who has been a boxing/combat sports hobbyist about for 21 years, I consider his class to be one of the best authentic learning experiences I've had! Would definitely recommend anyone from beginner to advanced levels to check him out!
Posted 1 year agoMau Maus jiu jitsu academy has a great environment for students of all levels. Ive been there almost 6 or 7 years and I love it. More recently I signed up with Kru Dave for Muy thai and absolutely love it as well. I've been training with Dave for almost a month and already feel major improvements in my striking. He focuses on very technical details and his class is even more informative. Great vibes and all his students are very welcoming and patient with newcomers. I would highly reccomend checking out a some classes if you are interested in learning real and authentic muy thai!!🙏🙏🙏
Posted 1 year agoTop notch nogi coach (Dana) at the evening nogi lessons around 7:45pm. No showers, though. Would recommend at least a visit to be convinced to commit and train here.
This is a fun place to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors are friendly, well versed, and super helpful. Mau Mau is one of the nicest guys I have met in combat sports and his teaching ability is some of the best I’ve seen. I definitely recommend anyone who’s wants to learn BJJ to visit Mau Mau’s academy.

Mau Mau Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just a martial arts gym—it's a family. From the moment you step through the door, you're embraced with warmth and camaraderie. The atmosphere is electric, filled with positivity and encouragement. What sets Mau Mau apart is their commitment to treating everyone like family from day one. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, you'll feel supported and welcomed. It's not just a place to train; it's a community where you grow, learn, and succeed together.
Maumau is a world-class instructor. The academy is amazing with great people. Recommend Maumau Academy. Hands down one of the best schools in Boston.
Incredible training, incredible people. I've been training with Mau Mau for almost 3 years, and I don't plan on switching gyms any time soon.
Been training here for around 1 year now! Great gym!
Visiting in from Charlotte ASJJ, GFT affiliate. The team here was very welcoming, lots of great instruction and fun rolls. Highly recommend!🙏🏾👊🏾
Joined this gym about 3 weeks ago after moving to the area. I could immediately see that this is a very tight knit community. Everybody is happy to be there and everybody trains hard. On top of being a world class coach and competitor, Professor Mau Mau is also an awesome guy who made me feel welcomed from the second I walked in. The good vibes along with the high level of coaches and students, makes this academy great. If you are looking a place to train and are in the area, you cannot go wrong with this place
For those who looking for a real jiujitsu training without drama queen and águas de salsicha, Mau Mau Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the place in the Boston Area. Robson is a black belt from Master Julio Cesar, coral belt from GFTeam, one of the greatest. "GFTeam nunca, NUNCA para". OSS
Great instructor staff. Great environment. I'm a long time student and can't see myself training anywhere else.
Mau Mau is an awesome professor and got recommended to me by 5 other schools while I was in the area for American Grappling Federation. I got to drop in to leave flyers and their head coach greeted me and made me feel welcomed! I hope to come by again soon and roll!
Best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in MA! Mau Mau is one of the best person you’ll ever meet.
I've been going for a bit over a month. The teachers are great, my classmates are friendly, and the price is affordable. Cannot recommend enough
The best Bjj School of Medford area!
I don't think I understood what people mean by saying "family" about MauMau's academy before coming here. The atmosphere in this academy is incredible. I'm constantly feeling as if I was generously invited to a Brazilian family dinner. No BS, no politics, just positive energy and endless learning from a world-class teacher and each other ❤️❤️❤️
Oss!
Hands down one of the best around. Mau Mau is a legend and a amazing instructor. Not only are you part of a team here. You become family. Hopefully get to return soon. Been away far to long now. Oss
Besides being a great BJJ instructor Mau Mau is extremely patient and ALWAYS positive. Those last two things make for an excellent experience attending his academy. The students who attend also follow Mau Mau's example and are always welcoming and helpful. The gym is also extremely neat and clean.
Love this place, they are very good and patient with kids! Keep it going guys! "Mau Mau Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy Code of Conduct: 01. Always be respectful, check your attitude at the door. Greatest place to be if you're looking to learn about jiujitsu or kickboxing. Osu!
Professor Mau Mau Robson Rodrigues runs a top notch BJJ Academy! He is very friendly and helpful. He has a great group of guys that train at his school. I am just visiting the Boston area. Professor John Piper at Charlotte Jiu Jitsu Academy highly recommended Mau Mau's academy. If you live in the area near Medford, I definitely recommend you train at this academy. If you are traveling through like I was, you will definitely fine some good healthy camaraderie at this school. Oss!
We were fortunate to have Professor Mau Mau come to Charlotte and teach a Kimura seminar. The seminar was phenomenal! Prof. Mau Mau took the time to answer any and all questions with a big smile and genuine care. A few months after the seminar and it seems everyone still has Kimura on the brain. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your knowledge with us Prof Mau Mau! Whether you're new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or a seasoned veteran you can’t go wrong training with Mau Mau. Hope to see you back in Charlotte soon!
A fun atmosphere, absolutely no inflated egos , a world champion(several times) for an instructor and great teammates that seem like family. I've trained at 3 other Bjj gyms, but only this one is home. OSS!
This is the real deal, if you want to have a wonderful experience come and train at Mau Mau BJJ, great people! I highly recommend learning under Prof. Robson Rodrigues with a impressive background as a Bjj world class competitor, I admire his successful technique!!
Mau Mau is world class. He has the experience, skills and medals to prove it. But more important is his passion for jiu-jitsu, his dedication to his students and his heart. It's obvious he loves what he does and the proof is in his students.
As of 1/26/17 I've been with Mau Mau Bjj for 1 year. Thanks to a great coach/instructor & fellow students that welcome you, like an old friend, my life has improved in many ways. Training here, along with the jiu-jitsu lifestyle, has greatly helped my type1 diabetes, my confidence & sense of well-being. Jiu-jitsu, with MauMauBjj, has changed my life.
Mau-Mau BJJ is a great place to train! I love it here and come as much as possible. The training is serious, but the classes are still fun. Mau-Mau is extremely knowledgeable and is always present to help each student. It's a good place if you want to compete but that's not a requirement. The students are friendly and welcoming to everyone. As a female, I really appreciate that aspect of the gym. There is no nonsense with payments. No contracts to worry about either which is nice. Definitely give it a try if your looking for a place to train.
I love this school and enjoy training here. I have been fortunate to have met some very nice people. This is the best place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Boston. This is a very family oriented place. All egos are left at the door! Very warm and safe environment!
Great instruction in a safe environment. Highly recommended!
