I’ve been taking private sessions with Joel Haro for some time now and I can confidently say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. He a phenomenal coach who is goal oriented toward your success and he’s completely invested in seeing you succeed. It’s amazing having a coach with that much level of talent mix with patience. The gym is a great environment, it’s very welcoming and the high level of coaching makes it a no brainer.

I'm in my third month of training at Sierra MMA, and I can confidently say this place is awesome. The gym is not only inclusive and welcoming, but it’s also a lot of fun to train here. Pedro, the coach, is deeply passionate about teaching and truly cares about helping his students improve. He strikes the perfect balance between pushing you to be your best and providing the support you need to get there. If you’re in the Salt Lake area and looking for an MMA gym, I highly recommend giving Sierra MMA a try! You won’t be disappointed.

I've been doing Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA at Sierra for about 7 months. I've tried Jiu Jitsu in at least 6 other gyms and this is, hands down, my favorite. I especially love how many skilled female training partners I have here. The vibe at this gym is a great mix of demanding and competitive, while being super supportive and fun. The people are all friendly, welcoming, and good-natured, and the training environment is super positive. The coaching and classes adapt to whatever your goals are - whether that's to actually fight competitively, enjoy a hobby, learn self-defense, or just get a great workout. The coaches take time to explain everything and I'm never afraid to ask questions when I have them. Something the coaches here do better than other gyms is they watch everyone carefully and give you consistent feedback every single class. I also love that the coaches have strict expectations that everyone take care of each other. Martial arts are inherently dangerous, and injury is somewhat inevitable, but I feel much safer training here than I have at other gyms. I also feel like I've been able to improve faster than at other gyms, particularly my striking, because I'm not constantly afraid of getting hurt. Tre is a very invested coach. His preparation for every class is evident, he doesn't waste time, and the drills and games he uses always teach me something. He also spends a lot of time outside of class with students, doing extra training, explaining, strategizing, etc. My skills and confidence in Muay Thai have increased much faster than I expected because of him. Pedro is also a very invested coach. His approach to teaching Jiu Jitsu is unlike anything else I've experienced, but it's so intuitive and makes Jiu Jitsu feel accessible to a beginner. He makes Jiu Jitsu make sense. Overall, both Pedro and Tre are really good at breaking skills down into manageable parts and helping you get good at them incrementally. Their approach to martial arts really works with my body and my brain :)

I have been training with Joel Haro at Sierra MMA for about 4 months now. I have a great experience every time. He is not only knowledgeable and experienced, he has a way of breaking things down to me ( an amateur at best) in a way that makes sense. He makes training super fun and also makes me feel really comfortable in training with him. I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn MMA, striking, jiu jitsu, or just to get a great workout in.

I’ve been at sierra for 1.5 years now…. As a fighter coming from a bigger gym to a smaller gym was a bit of a transition for me. Pedro and head striking coach Tre had to have several conversations with me on what was to be expected from me as a student, athlete, and training partner! The way Tre teaches is a bit unorthodox but the results have spoken for themselves. From a fighters perspective, coach Tre has given me so much insight into mixed martial arts and has showed me just how many layers there are! If your looking to fight, train, or just an overall good community to be apart of Sierra mma is defiantly a great safe place for anybody and everybody!
