Coming from a parent that did not find it necessary to pass up several other opportunities for karate instruction for my son, Koelton and Nick, so many times, have proved me wrong In my thinking. They are dedicated to helping children, young adults and adults learn. They have given me a few life lessons. They are both incredible instructors, worth the extra time. My son loves doing karate here. They teach the children great values along with how to protect themselves and those around them. The instructors are great and help the kids grow to adulthood. I know they have adult classes as well but I have not had experience with those.
My 6-year-old son has been going to BLK in Sandy twice a week since last October, and in just a few months, this formerly reserved child has built up his confidence and is already working on earning his orange belt! I have continuously been impressed with how great Koleton and Nick are with the kids, both in teaching them the martial arts techniques and building up their self-esteem. Even in a class of 20 or more, each child gets plenty of personal attention when needed, and is given the tools and instruction to master the skills they need to be more autonomous. I am excited to see how far my boy goes with this, and know that no matter if he sticks with karate or shifts focus to another sport or hobby in the future, that he will have had an incredible experience here. I highly recommend this studio for any boy or girl who needs more structure and physical education in their lives!

I really do not have the words to describe how thankful I am for this place and the people who work there… my daughter started doing karate here 4 yrs ago and over time she became a teacher. This place gave her somewhere safe to be herself and to learn that she is beautiful and amazing just the way she is! I have watched my daughter grow and thrive being a part of this karate family and yes they are family and we will greatly miss them as my daughter moves on to her next adventure!
My oldest daughter has been in the Sandy Studio since she was 4 and she absolutely loves it. Karate is her safe space and favorite time of the week. It has been so fun to watch her grow over the last two years. She has become such a respectful, responsible and strong little girl and I know Koleton, Nick and the staff at BLK Sandy have a lot to do with that. We drive to the Sandy Studio from West Jordan twice a week, passing other Dojo’s along the way because we love the Sandy Studio THAT MUCH. It is such a welcoming environment and all the staff and parents there feel like family. Koleton and Nick are amazing! They've taught three of my children and are always kind, professional, and helpful. I brag about them to anyone who asks because they do such an amazing job of working with the kids on life skills such as courtesy, respect, and confidence in addition to self-defense skills. We started with them trying to find some sport for my child who loves sports but had poor motor skills and I was delighted at their growth. So much so that I have since enrolled two of my younger kids - one needed an outlet for ADHD and the other who needed to get off their device. They both love going now and I love the positive, loving and supportive atmosphere. I can't say enough about how much I love these guys and appreciate all they've done for my kids. (They're also more affordable than the studios my kids' friends go to.)
Koleton and Nick are amazing with kids! My son came in with so much anxiety and left full of confidence! They make sure to give each child attention and give them positive constructive comments. All are welcome here. While my son has moved on from karate we will always support and encourage people to learn from the best, and that is Sandy Bobby Lawrence Karate!
My kids love karate and their karate instructors!! It is a great place for kids to learn much more than karate. My kids have learned great social skills, confidence, how to be more courteous, and much more. Koleton and Nick are great. They love kids and can really relate to them. I wouldn’t take my kids to any other karate studio!
My boys love Bobby Lawrence Sandy. We started with a free trial as I was sure one of my sons would love karate. Turns out both of them did. Koleton, Nick, Austin, and all of the instructors have been great. Its been a great experience for our family. Its a great, safe environment for our kids to learn, grow, and develop their character.
All the instructors are so thoughtful and care so much about the kids! They help to build confidence and skill. My kids love the structured format and feel they are learning so much more here than they have at other studio. My child has been a student of Bobby Lawrence Karate-Sandy for 1 year. We had trials with two other studios before deciding on BLK Sandy. I drive past dozens of other Karate studios (including three Bobby Lawrence locations) for my child to attend this specific dojo. We started karate about 10 months ago to get my son active. Not only has he loved the classes, he likes the instructors and is on his way to his 4th belt promotion. We are always greeted by smiling faces. We love it here, and continue to go to this location even though there are others that are much closer to our house. The owner and the instructors are amazing!
Koleton, Nick & their team are truly exceptional. Not just as instructors, but as people in general. They truly care about the kids and families that they teach & serve. They stand on principle, with kindness & integrity throughout. They have REAL values and they live them out in their conduct. It’s how they do business because it’s who they are. The great thing about enrolling a child in their karate studio, is your child will receive these lessons in life & conduct, in addition to learning the discipline of Karate at the highest level. As a parent, I will say that I have never had money I felt was better spent than at Bobby Lawerence Karate in Sandy.
I love this studio. My kids at I are all students and we are treated with nothing but the upmost respect. I know there are closer Dojo’s but I’d rather drive across the valley to learn from Koleton and Nick. I would recommend them to anyone anytime!!

Cannot say enough good things about this studio and the instructors! My child is a strong willed child and can sometimes be difficult. Mr. Nick understands this and has been able to work with my child in ways not many have been able. My child is thriving here. The studio is amazing at encouraging behavior at home and school. I can’t say more about Bobby Lawrence Karate Sandy and the amazing staff/instructors. My daughter has learned more than just kicks and punches. The team here really takes time to instruct the kids to be tough mentally as well as physically. It is always a positive environment where the kids learn about respect and discipline. The type of rapport they established immediately with my son was what I dreamed of him being able to have after several months. He had never tried martial arts before, and immediately couldn't wait to go back.

This studio is amazing!! My son was struggling with school work and Koleton sat down with my son and I, and we worked out a plan to help him integrate his focus he has in karate class with his ability to focus in his school class. He teaches respect for each other, the instructors and other people’s property. If someone is not respecting those, they will address it and they will correct the behavior! My son has been going to this karate studio for almost 3 years now… and he absolutely loves it!!! It is well worth the money and time we have invested in Koleton and Nick! ❤️

As a Karate instructor he certainly will teach your children to be outstanding martial artist. More importantly he will demonstrate and teach the key traits and disciplines that are most necessary for them to become empathic and selfless leaders among their peers and in their communities. Koleton taught my son at the West Jordan studio and was phenomenal as an instructor and truly cared about my family, even those not enrolled in karate. My kids try and seek him out to say hi at local tournaments. I would highly recommend Koleton and Bobby Lawrence studios to anyone.

We love this studio! Koleton and Nick are amazing! My oldest kid has autism and anxiety and my youngest has severe anxiety, and this was probably one of the best things we could have done for them. It taught them both how to defend themselves and how to manage their feelings in a positive way!
We went to Bobby Lawrence when Kolton was in Herriman and he was so amazing!! So good with the kids! I am just waiting for my twins to turn 4 so they can come to class. We live the opposite side of the valley but will drive for quality and instructors that truly care about your kids.

I would trust them with any and every member of my family!! Koleton does not tolerate disrespect. I love it when parents back him up with the way he teaches discipline. After all, this studio didn’t win Best Martial Arts School in Utah because the instructors don’t know what they are doing. Looking for a place to learn and develop karate and jiu jitsu skills? Look no farther. This place is AMAZING!!!

Bobby Lawrence of Sandy is a safe place for kids to make mistakes, learn, and grow. The instructors are not only excellent at karate but stellar at handling kids. If you’re thinking about signing your kid up for karate this is the place to do it!
EDIT: My kids are now 7 and 9. We have been going to BLK Sandy for 4 years. It has been the one consistent activity in my kids' lives. Koleton and Nick have been a giant part of their growth as young humans. They are consistent, kind, and even though they were great at what they do from the beginning, they are constantly seeking more education for themselves to get even better. My 9-year-old dreams about helping teach there someday. My son can be very challenging at home, but is at his best in these classes. My 5 (almost 6)-year-old and 3-year-old are students here. It is just about the only time of the week where I can see them focused and following directions. Koleton and his assistant Nick have an innate natural ability to teach children. As a veteran educator, I have seldom seen instructors of anything with as much talent in teaching as these two. Not into martial arts? Neither was I when I started my kids at this studio. It's not about fighting or hurting, there are character lessons and anti-bullying tactics taught that are hands-off and public school compliant. My kids are confident and much more focused on tasks at karate than anywhere else. It is our only "activity" and I can't recommend this studio enough.
Not only are each of the teachers here incredibly skilled, disciplined, and exact, they are happy, encouraging, and genuine. We have loved being involved with Bobby Lawrence Karate at this studio in particular. Their excellence spills over to each person who walks in the door. All are made to feel exceptional and, as a result, all rise to the challenge!

I originally seen a post for an advertisement and promotion for this company, being unable to keep the original apt I made, they were more then willing and beyond pleasant to work with my family on another promotion. The owner and staff are just as amazing in person. Prices, deals and promotions are reasonable and comparable considering the time spent in session. The Class had the right energy, the students were attentive, calm and ready to participate. I'd say if you have interest in getting into karate this place is the best!!!

Koleton the owner and his instructors are amazing at what they do and are fantastic with the kids. Your kids will love it, my boy has a great time. The person that has the most fun though, is me! The adult class is the best class.

We found this place after we were told by our son's therapist that he would benefit from a structured activity. My son has several learning disabilities and Autism to boot so we were at first cautious. After the first private lesson we were settled. The Instructor was not only understanding of my son's needs but was patient and positive. So far my son has enjoyed every lesson and has even wanted to participate in additional events which is highly unusual for him. Highly recommended.
What makes this place absolutely amazing is Colton & his instructors! My son has tried karate at two other places & they in no way compare. I feel like every session we go, he's learning more & his confidence is growing. There is such attention to detail & they seem to know every child so well & their strengths. It was suggested by my son's kindergarten teacher to get him into Karate to help him learn focus and discipline. We found Koleton at Bobby Lawrence in Sandy and I can not believe the impact it has had on my son. Koleton treats each and every kid in that studio with respect, praise s their efforts but he's firm and doesn't put up with nonsense. Those kids eat it up! I love watching my son respond to the instructors with purpose and pure focus. He also takes time out of lessons to talk to the kids about great topics like what does integrity mean or how do you handle a bully. He's amazing with the kids and I'm grateful we found him. I can't recommend Bobby Lawrence enough!

My son has been at this karate studio for over a year now and still loves it. He is learning great things. Not only does he learn karate but there are short sessions where they discuss respect, when it is appropriate to use their karate and other such topics. The instructors Koleton and Nick are the best, every time I watch the class I am blownblown by their skill working with the kids. They offer free birthday parties, which my kids still talks about the time he was able to use a real sword to cut his cake. If you are looking for a karate studio, look no further. This is the place.
Bobby Lawrence in Sandy is the best!! Koleton is incredible with the kids and has the perfect balance of discipline and fun. As an educator whose job is to observe classrooms and instruction, I was blown on my first day watching Koleton and Nick with my son. I am incredibly impressed with the mix of professionalism and fun that they have in the class. My 5-year-old is learning great skills, and his younger sister can't wait to join in. My family has been attending training at this studio for a year now; three sons (5, 12, 14) and I. Koleton and his Black Belt assistant instructors have been fantastic with my children. They reinforce the discipline, work ethic and character we try to instill in our children. I have benefited from both the skills I'm learning and the workout I get. I love the people I train with at this studio and the parents that have kids in my children's classes. This studio attracts high quality families because of the high quality training. Bobby Lawrence karate is extremely family friendly. If you want a Karate Studio that is well rounded, great for self’s defense, and overall has a positive atmosphere, this is the place to go!
Koleton Nielsen took over the studio over a year ago. My son was going to quit, but once Koleton took over as owner his passion for karate returned. He is testing for his 4th degree Black belt in November. Thank you Koleton! You are an amazing karate instructor.
After interviewing so many other Dojos from Sandy to SLC; I knew this was the place from my first meeting with Colton and watching the classes. Other Dojo's just flip the kids, wanting to churn the parents for the belt money. This is not one of those. Colton, and the other teachers take a true vested interested in the child's development both in Karate and personally. The classes are smaller size, so there is more attention. My son was hitting the wall and burning out on karate from his tenor in Texas with a teacher that wasn't enthusiastic. Colton is the reverse he makes the classes fun besides teaching the foundation basics in a new manner; my son can't wait to go to class now. Which makes all of us happy.
I never give bad reviews to others, but what happened on 5/17 made me unforgivable. You don't deserve the yin and yang tai chi map on your chest, because there is no bullying or bullying in the spirit of tai chi and martial arts. Weak, because your rude behavior has had a bad influence on my child. Letting the child learn martial arts is to hope that she will grow up happily and healthily and can protect herself, and now the result is that you have made my child autistic, I think this is What all parents don't want to see, many parents choose to forgive and accept tolerantly, but I won't, because you hurt a child, I don't recommend this place First, you did remove my child's rank belt logo. Second, the child has been studying in your school for almost half a year. Has she always been like this? It's rude to do this without asking why. Third, do you have rules that stipulate that the child needs to wipe the floor, suspend classes and tear off the grade belt logo due to physical discomfort and spit? (A photo of the child's mouth is attached), you can do whatever you want. If you're in a bad mood, you don't know what will happen. We're scared to think about it. Fourth, are you people-oriented education? Why are you rude as a private profit company, who gave you the courage? Summary: rude behavior, rudeness, arrogance, lack of empathy
My daughter had a very unpleasant experience with this place. Due to a minor health condition, my 5-years old daughter spited on the floor. I must admit that was her fault, and she needed to clean the mass. However, what happened after really made me very angry. My daughter was asked to step aside – time out, I think a little punishment is necessary. But her ranking symbols on the belt was removed in front of the entire class by the instructor… My daughter went back home and cried for days… I personally would not recommend this place. I am really concerned that the other kids will be treated unfairly. In the end, there are a lot of martial art places, choices are readily here.
