I cant say enough about how great Shorty's is. I found jiu jitsu amidst the pandemic and haven't left ever since, Shorty's was the first and only gym I checked out. From the small space on Lancaster Avenue to the new location on Baltimore Ave it has kept me constantly coming back. I have fallen in love with the sport, the people and everything that comes with it. Not only is it a great place to train it is filled with great coaches, training partners and new friends. This gym is very welcoming and caters to everyone's needs. From the day one white belt to the high level competitor its a fit for anyone. Everyone here is here to help their fellow teammate and has no issue slowing things down to help their partner. I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend my nights.

Shorty's is nothing short of exemplary in BJJ training. Intro classes M/W/F provide a strong foundation for anyone interested in getting into the sport and learning the fundamentals. Advanced and competitive classes offer great ways for anyone to improve their game and get into competition. On or off the mat, the coaches and members treat everyone with great respect and decency. This is a great place to train, whether you are a novice or seasoned competitor. Come train with us!

This is a great bjj school. I got to spend almost 3 months training here, wish I could stay longer. I have never tried bjj before coming here and I got insane skill progression in just a couple of months. The schedule is amazing, you can go to classes both before and after work on weekdays and go to open mat on weekends. At first I was really nervous to train not only with women but with men too, but the community is so friendly here that I got comfortable quickly. And all the instructors are super helpful and willing to spend time on you. Huge respect to Mike for building such a wonderful community.

As a rooster-weight BJJ practitioner, I haven't found a better school. Every class feels like you are a kid in the candy shop who gets to explore the nuances of each technique. I've trained at one other place in Philadelphia and two places in Florida, and this is by far my favorite academy. Mike, the owner, does an excellent job separating the class between beginners to get the repetitions they need and advanced practitioners to get the necessary technique. The atmosphere is anything from ego. Tap early, tap often. As an older practitioner, I also haven't felt threatened by being injured, which hasn't been my experience in my six years of practicing jiu-jitsu—this speaks to the culture that Mike fosters at this studio. If you are looking for an intelligent school and approach to your BJJ, I would stop looking and drop in and check this place out. Chris, one of my good friends, highly recommended this studio. Thank you for all that you do for the studio, Mike. I can't thank you enough for your impact on my jiu-jitsu practice, OSS!

I’ve trained at Shorty’s for nearly a year now. It’s been great to see the growth from a small, humble location to the current facility. The main instructor Mike Short and training partners are dedicated to supporting your development. Mike stays up to date with the latest jiu-jitsu techniques, competes in national and international tournaments, follows professional grappling, and trains with world class practitioners to ensure students are receiving the best modern instruction. Class structure: Warm-ups, technique drills, live drilling or open rolls. Facilities: Large primary mat space and secondary mat space in another room. Changing rooms, bathroom, and shower. Shelves for storage. Water cooler. Shorty’s Jiu-Jitsu is great for beginners, casual practitioners, or competitors.
