I am so happy I found this place within walking distance of my house. I just moved to Philadelphia, and this place is making my adaptation to the city much easier due to the friendly environment and great instructors. If I could give more stars, I would.
$30 drop-in fee but you can roll all day. Excellent instruction (I’m an 8-month white belt) and I got to roll with a careful blue belt. Class size was small; 5 total, including the teacher at 7am. I like the morning classes but few gyms have them.
I dropped into Gracie Academy Philadelphia today. I live about 90 minutes north of Philly and was in town for work. I reached out to the academy and was welcomed to drop in, in accordance with their drop in policy. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Kate the class’ instructor. After a quick onboarding and waiver, I was able to start training. The team members were incredibly welcoming. Kate walked us through a back take off and opponents guard pass attempt. Her instruction and examples were thorough and her one on one instruction was very helpful. At the end of class, we got into some live training. The pace was great, everyone I rolled with focused on being good at technical jiu jitsu. Highly recommend, very welcoming spot in downtown Philly. Thanks for being so welcoming!
Welcoming, great technical expertise and excellent range of classes and times to choose from. Been to a lot of schools and rarely do you find this many weekend classes. If I wasn’t just visiting from out of town, I’d be here. Did I mention they have nice showers?!?
Great instructors and coaches. Great fellow students who are always looking to help you improve. Brian is one of the best and nicest around. Highly recommend!
Dropped in from out of town - great facility with plenty of room, welcoming instructors and classmates, and good balance of instruction and rolls. Highly recommend.
I’ve been training here from white belt to brown belt and I plan on getting my black belt from this school. Brian and all of the instructors have so much experience in teaching and competing. Brian in particular is very eloquent and makes doing the moves easy to understand, and the jiu jitsu taught holds up at a world class level. The environment doesn’t involve itself in politics and it is low drama. Everyone is really passionate about learning, sharing techniques, and pushing each other to get better. If students express interest in competition, Brian and the other instructors help push the pace and offer strategic guidance. The facility is very good as there are plenty of showers for both men and women, and it is kept tidy and clean. There are classes at multiple times of day to accommodate different lifestyles.
Definitely the best place to train at
Such a great community here so everyone was humble, super helpful and the instructors were super genuine, even the other students were incredible teachers.
Best training in Philly
Nice and clean place. Also have Judo
Great, competitive BJJ training!
Extremely clean environment to learn Jiu jitsu. Flexible class schedule, and very knowledgeable instructors. Everyone is friendly and welcoming to new people as well. Stop by and take a couple free classes to see for yourself.
If you are looking for a place to train BJJ or Judo there is no need to look any further. When I moved to the area I made a list of things I wanted in a studio and no compromises were made when it came to this academy: Great technical instruction Super clean facility Friendly and welcoming environment Multiple martial arts to study Variety of skill levels in every class Flexible payment structures It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to study at this academy.
World class instruction, a welcoming environment for females, supportive training partners and a lovely facility.
Top jiujjiu-j academy 👌 Great professionals! Ótimos profissionais! 🇧🇷🇺🇸
Fabulous kids program. I can't say enough good things. So happy this place exists.
I joined Philadelphia Gracie Humaitá just under a year ago and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. The instruction is second to none and Professor Brian Rago is also an extremely humble individual that genuinely cares about his students. Whatever your needs, wether it’s just getting into better shape (I just turned 43 by the way and am in the best shape of my life now!), competition, or self defense, Gracie Philly has it. There’s a great mix of people from the competition oriented to the serious hobbyist, like myself, and I feel as if everyone has each other’s safety and well being in mind. The workouts can be intense and it’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life, but I’ve not had a day go by that I don’t anxiously look forward to going to class! If you decide to give Jiu Jitsu a try, my hat is off to you, and I hope you fall in love with it like myself and so many others have.
Good, clear instruction. Clean, nice, facility. Welcoming environment for locals, beginners, and visitors. Thanks for the help and the rolls!
Real training. Highest level of instruction. No elitist attitudes, no clicks.
Black belt instruction in every class. Some of the most technical and knowledgable instruction I have found.
Awesome place to train. The instructors have years of experience and they know how to handle kids for their kids classes. Definitely a place to send your kids to learn Brazilian Jiujitsu.
This gym is great for any level of Jiu Jitsu. The facility is the best in the area. Every class is taught by a black belt with over a decade of experience. They provide a class schedule as well as open mat training to fit every lifestyle .
Amazing Jiu Jitsu school. I have been training with Brian Rago and Tim Sylvester for 10 years off and on. I drive an hour and a half to make the classes because there is nowhere else in the Philadelphia area with as high a level of instruction. Training with Gracie Philly has been the best decision I ever made. Love it!
Joined up when I moved to Philly, probably the best decision I've made coming here. Phenomenal instruction, great people, and hard work.
Very technical instruction and great people to train with no matter your skill level.
World class instruction from all instructors. Friendly and helpful students. Great sense of brotherhood from everyone who trains here. If you're a beginner or been training for a while you can get it all here.
Great gym with excellent instruction and friendly people. Gracie Philadelphia is a great place to start training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for competition, self defense or general fitness. The instructors have years of experience and the students are all enthusiastic. If you are on the fence, stop by and check it out.
Great place to train. Great people. Excellent instruction.
If you want to learn and maintain a solid foundation of Gracie Jiu Jitsu, look no further. The instruction is top notch and attention to detail is paramount. Gracie Philadelphia provides a safe environment for those looking to start their training and those looking to compete. The camaraderie, friendliness, and positivity in this place is amazing. There are no egos and everyone is treated with respect.
No-fluff instruction and instructors. I've been a part of this academy for years - first by driving 2.5 hours once a week and a now as full-time student since moving to Philadelphia. The instructors, Brian and Tim, want to help everyone and have a frank and honest approach about training. Students range from casual workout enthusiasts to tough international competitors of all ages. It's hard to exactly put into words how these guys will never be overly emotional in either positive or negative ways but really care about their students. Up-front salesmanship and no bs tactics; they want you to want to be there. I'm a brown belt and have never felt more at home or supported at an academy in all the time I've been training.
