When we first brought Josh to Serenity, I knew absolutely nothing about jiu-jitsu. Like many parents, I simply wanted him to feel confident and know that he could defend himself if he ever needed to.
What I didn’t realise was that we were signing him up for something far greater.
Over the years, Serenity has become so much more than a martial arts club. Through Jonny and the incredible coaching team, Josh has developed confidence, resilience, discipline, respect, and a belief in himself that extends far beyond the mats. He has learned that setbacks are part of life, that hard work matters, and that showing up consistently pays off.
One of the things I love most about Serenity is the emphasis on character and sportsmanship. The children are taught to win with humility, lose with grace, support their teammates, and understand that success comes through effort, perseverance, and continuous learning. In a world that often focuses solely on outcomes we’ve found these lessons are invaluable.
The team spirit is also something really special. While jiu-jitsu may look like an individual sport from the outside, Serenity feels more like a family. The children genuinely encourage one another, celebrate each other’s achievements, and support each other through challenges. There is a real sense of belonging that is evident the moment you walk through the door.
The standard of coaching is exceptional, but for me it’s the culture that Jonny and the team have created that sets Serenity apart. They care deeply about every child and are helping to shape confident, respectful, resilient young people.
As a parent, I couldn’t be more grateful for the positive impact Serenity has had on Josh. The confidence, friendships, life skills and values he has gained are priceless.
If you’re considering a club for your child, I wholeheartedly recommend Serenity.
