Had an incredible experience at SBG! Definitely going back. I'm just a white belt passing through town, but was welcomed here with open arms. The facilities are clean and new, the training areas are large, and there are large fans that keep the gym nice and cool. Coach Gus is also the friendliest and most supportive coach - It's clear he/the gym has set a high standard for everyone to be a great training partner. Every single person i rolled with was kind, informative, and encouraging. Coach Gus was knowledgeable and dedicated. The culture was notably supportive and I can't say enough how welcome I felt here! Highly highly recommend SBG to others. 🙏🏻

I am visiting the area for work and attended a drop in class. This school looks great online but overdelivers in person. I was met by such grace and hospitality. Instantly, I felt like part of the team. Each person at class was so friendly and helped walk me through each phase of the training session. 10/10 recommend! I will definitely be back to train when I’m in the area. Thank you SBG Missoula! 🙏🏼

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SBG Missoula is an amazing Jiu-Jitsu academy with a truly welcoming community! I dropped in for a class as a one-stripe, white belt who’s been training about six months, and everyone made me feel right at home. Coach Gus answered the phone personally the day before and was incredibly friendly and inviting. The energy on the mats was positive, ego-free, and focused on learning — exactly what you want in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym. The coaching was top-notch, the facility was clean, and the people were genuine. If you’re looking for Jiu-Jitsu in Missoula, I can’t recommend SBG Missoula enough. Anytime I’m back in town, this will be my Jiu-Jitsu home! 🥋🔥

SBG has been the best thing that has happened for my 10 year old son. We signed him up as an outlet to help manage his hyperactivity from his ADHD/ODD. SBG gives him structure, helps him meet his goals, and keeps him accountable. Their kids programs have been amazing and the coaches have all been there for him for various reasons and supported him when he needed it. SBG helped shape him in to a great kid who is constantly excited about working towards advancing in class and being better than he was yesterday even if it’s hard. We truly don’t feel like we are part of a gym but part of a family.

I go four times a week right now, for the women's Brazilian jiu jitsu and striking classes. I am so appreciative of the patience people have with me, I really had to work up my courage to do some kind of sport after being out of commission for so long. I feel like I am slowly opening up and surmounting barriers I previously felt impossible to budge. ☺️ The people are so kind and I don't feel afraid to ask questions.

From day 1 every person affiliated with SBG, both coaches and practitioners, have been nothing but welcoming and kind. I was extremely nervous as I’ve never done any real sport in my life let alone a combat sport, but I find myself looking forward to the next time I get to be on the mat. It’s fun, it’s a workout, and I get to interact with people who love what they do and love sharing what they do just as much. Jiu Jitsu aside, yoga with Carmen has been a BLESSING for my tight hips and has actually become the highlight of my week ! I’m thankful for SBG for giving me a purpose outside of work🥋

SBG Missoula has created an amazing community. It is a safe space for my entire family (kids and all) to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu. The gym is always clean, the coaches really know what they are teaching, and their passion shows through. I really cannot say enough great things about the kids program. They learn jiu jitsu in a way that is fun and engaging as well as self-discipline. When looking to start BJJ, I contacted another gym in town and they took over a week (yes a WEEK!) to get back to me while SBG was within 24 hours. That right there really sets the tone on how professional and organized the crew is at SBG. I am also sooooo thankful that I joined SBG because the staff, members, and environment is so supportive for complete beginners to the sport. I have never trained BJJ before stepping into SBG but the whole process from the orientation, classes, and more has been flawless. Whether you're new to training or a seasoned professional, SBG is supportive for all goals and skill levels. I have and will be referring everyone to SBG.

I’ve trained under a few different BJJ coaches in a few different states. I’ve come to realize the most important thing for me when picking a gym include having a comfortable clean space, support from my coach and teammates, and an open door for questions to ensure I can always progress. SBG offers me all of these things. The space is always clean and comfortable. When someone competes a coach and a few teammates are always there supporting their progress. Although there’s already an extensive curriculum planned for each week, the coaches are always open to answering questions on anything or working with you during any open mat time to help you on your game. Even if there’s a plan for class, coaches are usually always open to adapting to our needs on the spot, whether that be drilling, sequencing or positional sparring. Overall no matter how great a gym is, someone can always find a reason to complain or make excuses. Your success is up to you. If you’re willing to work hard, SBG can offer you the perfect environment for improving your game while also offering networking options to train under other SBG schools all around the globe. It’s been a-little under 2 years and I’ve seen not only my skill level improve here, but my overall mental and physical health. Could not recommend SBG more.

I cannot say enough great things about SBG Missoula. In the short time we have been there, my two kiddos have grown so much. My daughter has come out of her shell and is so much more outgoing. She listens better. And has a better temperament. My son has grown just as much. He is very high energy and this has been a great thing for him. He needed the structure. Coach Ashley and Coach Gus are amazing. Even when the kids act out at home, or we have any problems with anything…. They are quick to help out and come up with a game plan on how to improve things. Cannot wait to see where they are a year from now! Thank you guys!

Been training here for about 2.5 years now and it’s among the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I’m in far better shape physically and even mentally than when I started. The coaches and staff have far exceeded my expectations. I don’t know if I could have maintained a workout schedule like the one I do now because just working out without the cognitive challenges that jiu jitsu and mma present is honestly pretty boring after a while. I’ve trained at other martial arts academies in the past but untill I joined SBG I didn’t realized how short those other facilities fell compared to a top tier academy. The atmosphere at the gym is that of a tribe that really cares about each other and despite my having social anxiety, I felt comfortable right away. There are also so many women that train at SBG (my fiancé included) and I feel that really says something about the environment there being a place for everyone because there’s no puffed up macho bs like a lot of MMA gyms. If your looking to make a positive change in your life, I highly recommend SBG.

Had been taking our daughter to another BJJ gym in Missoula, but we weren’t happy with the lack of depth of instruction they would give the girls vs the boys during sparring. It was almost like the coaches had no interest in helping the girls with their sparring. DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE AT SBG MISSOULA. The coaches at SBG are AMAZEBALLS. Their programs for the kids teach them not only the fundamentals of Jui jitsu and other MMA. But also responsibility, discipline, accountability, team work, and camaraderie. Its been Amazing to watch our daughter grow with her new love of her sport. SBG is her second home.

I’ve been training jiujitsu for a number of years. I’ve trained at the Kalispell, Whitefish and Missoula gyms for lengthy periods of time and I’m certain that SBG is the ultimate MMA/jiujitsu/yoga gym in Montana. I’ve gotten to know the owners of each location and watch how they interact with their team, coworkers and out in public. The experience of training with such knowledgeable and friendly people has changed my life. The Missoula location is in the ideal downtown location, and it’s always growing and expanding. The owners keep the mats clean and everyone feels welcome every day, and I’ve seen incredible personal transformations as my rolling buddies grow, causing and allowing myself to grow. There is no animosity between SBG gyms and I’m so incredibly happy to be a part of such an amazing tribe. Update: Two years later and I’m still a student here, the gym is still growing and the coaches are fantastic.

SBG Missoula is the premier spot for kids martial arts, self defense, Jiu Jitsu, women's only classes and fitness. Coach Gus and Bekah are two of the kindest people you will meet and their dedication to their students is unmatched. If you are in the area I highly recommend SBG Missoula!

From Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Judo to Boxing, Kickboxing, and MMA, SBG Missoula caters to a wide range of martial arts interests. This allows you to explore different options and find the perfect fit for your goals and preferences. Experienced Instructors: Reviews mention qualified instructors who are passionate about their disciplines and dedicated to helping students improve. This can be crucial for a safe and effective learning experience. Welcoming Atmosphere: The gym seems to have a positive and supportive environment where beginners feel welcome alongside experienced practitioners. But Consider These Before Signing Up: Limited Focus on Specific Disciplines: With so many disciplines offered, some might feel SBG lacks the in-depth focus available at gyms specializing in one or two areas. Cost Might Be a Factor: While pricing isn't mentioned, martial arts training can be expensive. Be sure to compare costs with other gyms in Missoula before committing. Uncertain About Class Formats: Information about class formats (group vs. private instruction, beginner vs. advanced) might be limited online. Contact the gym to get a clearer picture. Who Might Enjoy It: People interested in exploring different martial arts disciplines before committing to one. Those who value a supportive and welcoming learning environment. Individuals seeking instruction from qualified and passionate instructors. Who Might Want to Look Elsewhere: Martial arts enthusiasts who crave an in-depth focus on a specific discipline, like BJJ or Muay Thai. Budget-conscious individuals who might find other gyms with more affordable pricing. People who prefer a clear understanding of class formats (group vs. private, beginner vs. advanced) before signing up.

I understand that SBG Missoula's strategy to bring in clients involves having them come in to talk to a coach before discussing costs. However, when you're just trying to price out affordable MMA gyms, having even a rough estimate is essential. It’s frustrating not being able to get basic pricing information over the phone when trying to make an informed decision. Transparency matters, especially for those of us on a budget. Unfortunately, this experience made me feel like my time and needs weren't valued.

Very poor customer service. They scheduled my entire family for a walk through and when we arrived the entire place was dark. I called the phone number and a lady asked "can I put you on hold please?" Before I had a chance to say no I was waiting for over 15 min. I called back and was able to express my frustration and was told she couldn't help me. So for a martial arts place that is supposed to be about discipline they are lacking.
