Great place for kids to learn how to defend themselves, get some energy out, and learn about important values like self control, sacrifice, consistent effort, and self reliance. Update: been attending for a few months now and the kids still love it. Update #2: still going. Love it even more Update #3: We STILL attend, and still love it. SAS family for life
Posted 7 months agoAbsolutely incredible gym! SAS Jiu Jitsu is the perfect combination of top-level instruction, a welcoming atmosphere, and a strong sense of community. The coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about helping every student improve—whether you’re a beginner or have years of experience.
Posted 9 months agoStarted taking my 2 kids to SAS Jiu Jitsu and I’m so glad I came in for the trial class. The owner and the team are all amazing people. We love coming in and watching our kids progress class by class. My son is an indoor kid and is hard to get to go out to do physical activity so to watch him get better at doing the warm ups is awesome.
Posted 10 months agoSAS Thorndale is simply amazing, it doesn't matter if you've never been on a mat before or if you've been rolling for years, you will be welcomed and challenged when it matters most. It's the perfect place for kids, teens, and adults alike. You'll get stronger and healthier mentally and physically. There are classes at all times of the day so you won't have to worry about not being able to make it due to your schedule. Everyone here wants to see eachother succeed. SAS is family period
Posted 1 year agoOur son has been training at SAS for almost 4 months now and the support he receives from the whole team has been nothing short of life changing for him on and off the mat. SAS has wanted my son to succeed from the very 1st phone call with Coach Mike. Professor Thiago bleeds Jiu-jitsu, and Coach Seke wants to see his students successful in all aspects of life.
Posted 1 year agoIf you’re on the fence about joining just do it!!! Consistency is the key and if you put in the time you’ll thank me later when you’re in the best shape of your life! See you on the mats!!!! 🤙
Great atmosphere, instructors are great and the kids really love them all. Professor Thiago especially really connects with the kids and delivers great messages and lessons that go beyond training in the dojo.
I first started training BJJ in March, 2024. I tried the free trial on the website, and stepped on the matt for the first time. SAS Team welcomed me. Since then, I have been a member and coming 3 days a week in the afternoon after work/school. I have learned a lot, and improved physically and mentally. Is this a challenge? Yes. Is this worth it? Yes.
Despite being a new school, SAS Team's Thorndale location is a solid gym with dedicated students, experienced staff and access to other SAS Team affiliated gyms all over the country. The mats are clean and everybody is very welcoming. I would highly recommend beginning or continuing your BJJ journey here.
BEST martial arts in the area! Coach Zeeke is awesome, patient, and well qualified to handle the kids.
As a woman practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) at SAS Thorndale, I can attest to the transformative impact of this martial art. BJJ empowers women physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s not just about brute strength; it’s about technique, leverage, and strategy. As we learn to grapple, submit, and defend, we gain confidence and resilience. BJJ teaches us that strength comes in many forms, and we can hold our own on the mat. SAS Thorndale creates a supportive community. We train together, sweat together, and celebrate victories together. The camaraderie among the members at SAS is incredible. BJJ equips us with practical self-defense skills. We learn how to escape holds, immobilize opponents, and protect ourselves. As women, this knowledge is empowering—it gives us confidence in everyday life. At SAS Thorndale, we have passionate instructors, welcoming members, and a growing number of women on the mats. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced, BJJ offers a path to empowerment and growth. So, ladies, step onto the mat—it’s time to roll!
Our kids love SAS!! The teachers are all excellent and our children are gaining confidence and learning self reliance.
SAS is amazing! The coaches are awesome and treat everyone like family. My kids love it here and have learned so much. Highly recommend!
Really friendly environment and culture that makes you feel like you're in good hands
If you’re on the fence, just do it. This place is amazing with great kids and adult offerings. You can really tell the coaches love what they do and care about their students. The student community is also incredibly welcoming.
Words can't describe how amazing SAS BJJ academy is. My husband and I joined this past January-February. Since then we've had incredible progress in all forms if it's getting out to socialize, get in shape, compete, build confidence. Zeke is a FUNtastic coach!
I have two children who have been enrolled for almost a year. The coaches do a really great job. They care about the students' growth and ensure that everyone is helping each other learn. We've tried a couple other places, and this is where we'll stay.
I was welcomed with open arms. I didn’t know anything but everyone came together and taught me a little of what I needed to know to get started. Everyone made me feel welcomed and appreciated. I’m grateful and excited to start this new journey with this family.
I have been training under Thiago Thomaz at House of Arts for over 7 years. I have trained beside Seke for that long as well. Seke is an amazing asset to the SAS teaching team. Hiss focus and attention to detail surely sets students of any level up for success. The facility comes from a long line of affiliated academies whose focus is good, safe training regardless of age or experience.
Amazing classes and coaches at this location. Always very encouraging and motivating!
I joined SAS Thorndale about 4 months ago and it has been an incredible experience every step of the way. I came in with some wrestling experience and an inconsistent stint at another jiu jitsu gym and despite the gym being relavitely new, I found myself able to improve greatly with high caliber of training this gym has to offer. The instructors are great and make a point to get to know everyone in the gym and this in turn has built a great community to be a part of. With the gym being newer most of us are white belts but across the board everyone rolls with respect and safety for their partners in mind. If you're debating jiu jitsu you can't go wrong with SAS Thorndale.
Great school, great instructors, great students! I started at SAS in December 2023 and felt it was very beginner friendly. The coach does a great job of including new students in the class while not throwing them into the shark tank. The students do a great job of adjusting their aggression to what their partner is comfortable with. So when I roll with someone twice my size, we can keep it light and technical some days or really test myself when I ask for it. Everything is done at a pace the student has a say in. If you feel you need a break, no one gives you a hard time for sitting out or asking for a slower pace. But if you want to up your fitness, there's plenty of opportunity to get a good workout in each class. I've been practicing martial arts consistently for the past 28 years and attended thousands of classes, teaching my own for a while. That said, coach Zeke does an amazing job as an instructor. Our warmups are related to the movements we'll learn that night. He explains intricate maneuvers step by step and shows how different techniques flow together and can be improvised. He's able to add humor and keep our attention while staying focused on the techniques we're learning. And he ensures everyone understands what's going on before moving on from the instruction. Then we end the class with a few live rolls each night. He welcomes us to stay on the mats and practice with each other after class if we want to . Usually about 1/4 of the class stays after for a couple rolls or to practice what we learned that night. There's 2 plans which are priced fairly and more of a bargain the more you go. My wife and I have the plan for unlimited classes on a month-to-month fee. Classes are offered morning and night Mon-Fri with an open mat Saturday morning. We usually go 4 nights a week and then Saturday morning. All in all, if you're looking for fitness, sport, self-defense, an active hobby, discipline, or community, I recommend Jiu Jitsu. And if you're in the Thorndale or surrounding area, I recommend learning Jiu Jitsu at SAS.
I started at SAS about three months ago and it is one of the best things I have ever done. The Instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful and the team works together so that everyone’s training experience is great each class . If you are looking for a challenge and a great group of people, this is your place .
The SAS Jiu Jitsu Thorndale gym is absolutely top notch. The facility is clean and beautiful, and the mats are top of the line. The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable - but, most of all, they truly care about their students. I recommend this gym to anyone that is interested in starting their BJJ journey, child or adult. Come in and try a class, you won't regret it!
My family and I were looking for something new to do. Reached out to SAS and got a very quick response. Went in for a trial and haven't stopped going ever since. This place is great for people of all ages. If you are a parent looking for a sport for your young children, this is the place to be. It maintains the attention of a young child and creates expectations for them to meet. I can't say enough great things about this place, from the environment to the people to the family that welcomes every one in, it's the best ji jitsu gym in Chester County.
SAS is amazing! So much fun, my first time doing BJJ and I am hooked! Professor and coaches are great! They make learning very fun. It is a very welcoming environment. I came in with zero experience and I’m loving every minute of training. Amazing workout too!
Great gym. Instructors are very welcoming and knowledgeable.
Joined this gym about 2 months ago, and it’s been one of the best decisions of my life! An absolute great group of people who have became friends, and everyone helps each other to progress. Every coach and team member is approachable and willing to show you new things! If you were thinking about trying ju jitsu but never pulled the trigger for the longest time, give it a shot. I can’t recommend this gym enough!!
I went for a trial and decided I had to join. Mike, professor Thiago, and coach Zeke are great! Very knowledgeable and treat you like family. I find myself looking forward to every class. It's one of my favorite parts of the day. So happy I went to check it out!
