  I’ve tried several BJJ gyms in SCV, and I’ll always recommend Sanders BJJ. Ian is a highly accomplished grappler and one of the best instructors I’ve had. He cares about his students’ development and gives a lot of individualized attention and technical insight that helps you grow—whether you’re a beginner or an experienced grappler. I’ve gotten in great shape, improved a ton, and always enjoy training here. Beyond the instruction, Ian has built a great culture where people of all ages and skill levels are welcomed. Training can be tough, but the room stays safe and respectful of everyone’s pace, abilities, and goals. Ian is personable, approachable, and honest. The mats are clean, memberships are priced fairly, and there’s an overall chill, no-pressure vibe. There’s also a good mix of gi and no-gi, and 6am classes with a solid crew. Kids’ classes are fun and engaging and one of the reasons this is such a family-friendly gym.

  As a black belt hobbyist, I know that the personal attention Prof. Sanders gives is rare and invaluable. In addition to being a champion, he is a professional through and through, and his passion for helping people improve is evident. A great kids program that focuses on learning and fun!

  Been training at Sanders BJJ for 5 years now and I still love it. Awesome coach, great people, and a super chill but focused vibe. Definitely the place to be if you want to get better at Jiu Jitsu and have fun doing it.

  Sanders BJJ is the place to go and be.. The training has been nothing but great. 2-3 years I believe already, and the constant improvement I’ve seen has gradually improved my overall experience. Professor Sanders and staff are extremely well thorough and work with you at your pace. Regardless of age, weight and even experience, Sanders BJJ is the place to be.. Great parking, and many different training days to fit your schedule. The facility is clean and always maintained. Another good thing is, if you have kids, this place has lots of Kids Classes and I’ve seen nothing but great results too.. So don’t hesitate and if you’re looking for a feel at home Jiu Jitsu place to learn, grow and expand your skills. I highly recommend Sanders BJJ! -Romo

  When choosing a BJJ gym, one of the most important factors to consider is the professionalism of its leadership and members. For the sake of longevity, its crucial to find a gym that will keep your safety in mind and promotes an environment of learning and growth. When you walk into Professor Sanders gym you know that the group you train with leaves their ego at the door and all have the common goal of becoming better together, rather than trying to show off which is what I unfortunately observed during trials at other gyms. That is why I continue to train with Professor Ian.

  I was lucky enough to be informed about SandersBJJ from a martial arts forum. One of my biggest concerns was that I am over 40, overweight, and a slow learner. What I didn't want was to take classes from someone who wasn't excited to help me with my journey because I was too slow or had no aspirations to become a competitive fighter. Professor Ian is no slouch. He is not only knowledgeable and competitive, but he has the qualities that make an excellent instructor. He is clear, thorough, and is super patient. I have been in and out of martial arts for decades and I have come across the best and the worst. I am happy to say that I am pleased and eager to come to class at SandersBJJ whenever I can. I am confident that you will too. If you are worried about toxic meat head environments, look no further. Professor Sanders is a class act. I can confidentially say that you won't be disappointed.

  If you’re looking for legit sport Jiu Jitsu training, this is the academy for you! If you’re looking for a solid full body workout and awesome cardio while having a good time, this place is for you! If you’re looking to join a dope community of people that care and respect others, this is the place for you! Awesome people, awesome training, it doesn’t get much better than Sanders BJJ!!   I was initially impressed with the business but a month after my two kids stopped going the owner began charging us (again) and continued to do so for two months. After repeatedly explaining the issue to the owner (who seems to struggle to understand, drag his feet, etc.) I had an honest conversation with the owner where I apologized for any confusion on my end, and he agreed to refund the charges. However, in the end he never refunded the full amount and stopped communicating. For these reasons, I question the integrity of this business, and would not recommend it to anyone.
