Ruffhouse is an exceptional place to train. I am a small woman and I feel safe here. Brandon, John, and Joe have all been very kind and patient in my Jiu Jitsu journey. There aren’t many other women to train with but that’s kinda the territory with Jiu Jitsu, it seems. I don’t plan on competing at all, so rolling primarily with men helps me feel more confident in a real-world situation where I might have to defend myself. 10/10 would recommend for those looking for community and excellent training!

Love it here! They are great! They take their time with promotion which is great because it means that your kiddo is really ready when it comes time!

If I could give Ruffhouse 6 stars, I would! My son started jiu jitsu and Muay Thai training there 4 years ago at age 10, and I cannot say enough good things about our experience. The coaches are amazing with children of all abilities and temperaments and they invest in each kid on an individual level. Ruffhouse truly feels like family for us. The confidence and self defense skills my son has gained through his time at Ruffhouse are only overshadowed by the respect for others and self discipline the coaches have instilled in him. I highly recommend having your child check out a free trial class...it's a truly inclusive place for all kids :)

Ruffhouse Jiu-Jitsu in Renton is top-notch! From day one, I felt welcomed by Brandon and the whole team. Professor Arthur is an exceptional instructor—his deep knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu and ability to break down techniques make learning enjoyable and effective. Courtney and everyone else at the gym create a positive, supportive atmosphere that makes training feel like being part of a family. Whether you're new to Jiu-Jitsu or a seasoned practitioner, this place offers a fantastic environment to grow. The facility is clean, well-equipped, and always ready for a great session. If you're in Renton and looking to train, I highly recommend Ruffhouse. It’s an awesome community with great people and world-class instruction!

Really appreciative of this place! It can be tough/tricky when your kiddo is new. Brandon is a great instructor who motivates the kids in a fun way. Very patient and encouraging. These are formats that feel slow to learn at first, but if you/your kiddo stick with it, they will see improvement over time. Great way to teach them things aren’t always easy in life, but they are worth it. Classes start pretty young, and I would say the younger you can start your kid, the better! Thanks Ruffhouse team!

I have been training Muay Thai here for around 4 years and Ruffhouse has continued to be a great experience for me. The instructors have a level of awareness of skill level that allows you to develop your skills from any stage - helping me identify my areas of growth and I’ve always felt respected as a woman in the sport. Not only do I love the sport environment here but the community feel as well. Teammates look out for each other here and long term friendships are formed, a great atmosphere to grow your martial arts skills, your fortitude and build up your teammates. True martial arts gym based on respect and dedication.

I dropped in at Ruffhouse to train jiu jitsu for a week while visiting from out of town. I was really impressed by this place- high quality instruction, clean facility, and a very welcoming community. Everyone remembered my name and greeted me warmly each day! It can be intimidating going to a new place as a woman, but I felt very safe with all my grappling partners. Both the noon and evening classes had a wide range of belts present. I can’t wait to go home and try out what I learned! Whether you’re visiting from out of town or looking to become a member, you’re in great hands at Ruffhouse!

Very welcoming academy and professional instruction from Brandon. The 12:00 class was perfect for the wife and I to drop in while visiting the area and meet some more jiujitsu family. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. You can sign your waiver online before class which saves everybody time. Thanks Ruffhouse noon crew for the rolls!

I love this gym! I’ve been going here for about half a year, but my family’s known the owner for a while. I take classes in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Balintawak, and I love them all. The community here is great and fellow classmates are always so supportive, whether you’re brand new or you’re simply moving from another gym. The coaches/professors/teachers are also wonderful, very patient and well-versed in each of their styles. If you’re looking for a gym with a good atmosphere and guarantee of a good workout/ improvement, this is the place to be!

I hope to keep training wherever else I end up and to circle back to Renton some day to meet up with everyone. Sign up for Jiu Jitsu and Muy Thai!

I started training BJJ here at age 49, after watching my daughter train forabout three months. Now, about 16 months later, at age 51, I'm still going strong and enjoying training (so is my 10 year old daughter!). Professor Ruff is an excellent instructor to train under and is awesome with the kids. That's one of the things that first impressed me about him. And he's probably forgotten more jiu-jitsu than I will ever learn. Coach Phi and Coach Michael also bring the same level of commitment to the gym and are very invested in everyone's success. Everyone at Ruffhouse Jiu-Jitsu is friendly and unassuming. All egos are checked at the door here and it is a very welcoming place to begin your jiu-jitsu journey and the training is topnotch.

My daughter joined Ruffhouse a little over a year ago as an 8 year old. She was trying new sports and looking for something she could call her own. After one class she knew that she LOVED jiu jitsu and wanted to go as much as possible. Since joining Ruffhouse her confidence, leadership, physical and mental strength have all grown through the roof and I can without a doubt say that joining Ruffhouse was the best decision we have ever made for my daughter.

Being a girl and a beginner in bjj can be intimidating, but when I started at Elite I immediately felt comfortable. The instructor and the owner are both wonderful and welcoming, the students are helpful and encouraging, and jiu jitsu is an amazing way to get in better shape. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn, or more advanced looking for somewhere new to train I highly recommend Elite.

The name speaks for itself. Theres bjj, then a elite level. Whether competing or looking for a down to earth place to learn a martial art and improve your fitness.. This is a family friendly and great place to come! I'm training under Justin Zabroski in corvallis oregon competing in every tournament I can untill and long after my mma debut and this is the school I would give a arm and leg to be able to train and improve my bjj . I feel Truelly honored to have been able to come in for a session and look forward to setting up a card for when I'm in the Renton area. I have a championship tournament coming up in June and I Truelly feel my jits game just Truelly improved and it was a amazing experience to be with the instructor and his students.

I've trained BJJ in three states at several schools and this is one of the best schools I've been to, the classes have people who are active competitors but also people who just started a few weeks ago and are really tailored for anyone. Whatever your goals are, this is just a great place to learn and meet some cool people.

I just joined the Muay Thai class and even for the short time I’ve been there I have been treated with nothing short of respect. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable in not only the techniques of Muay Thai but also the history and culture of this beautiful sport! I completely recommend anyone that is interested in martial arts to check these guys out.

I have been going to the academy for 3 months now, and the experience has been great! I have been learning Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) there which is taught by experienced teachers. We are given instruction in the traditional Thai Boxing form and at the same time it is a fantastic workout for the body. Since it is part of the Elite Thai Boxing Association, the school follows a regulated curriculum which ensures that we learn the proper techniques and do that in a safe environment. Also, being a student here means I can go to any Elite Thai Boxing Academy for practice / lessons as per my convenience.

Ruffhouse Renton doesn’t seem to give beginners, especially entry-level white belts, the same attention as junior or advanced classes. The beginner sessions feel rushed, and the instructors often seem uninterested or irritated, particularly when someone arrives late. The cleanliness of the mats is also concerning—they’re so dusty that they leave feet black, which clearly indicates they aren’t being cleaned properly. Unfortunately, the overall experience has been underwhelming and disappointing.

At Ruffhouse Renton, it seems like the instructors show favoritism, especially when it comes to entry-level white belts who are complete beginners. The beginner classes often feel rushed, while more attention and effort are given to junior and advanced classes. The instructors also come across as unmotivated and appear irritated when people arrive late. On top of that, the mats are extremely dusty and leave people’s feet black, which clearly shows they’re not cleaned regularly. Overall, the experience has been very disappointing and unsatisfactory.

The head instructor here is very rude and confrontational. The parking lot behind this business is normally empty in the morning and often utilized by people dropping off their kids at the nearby school and daycare. There are no signs saying the lot belonged to any businesses anywhere. The businesses in the area aren't even open at 8 AM on a weekday. The head instructor for this business walked on the street wearing the business' shirt approached me and began a confrontation at 8:30 AM in the morning. I initially thought he was a vagrant or drunkard (his face was a dark pink) so I avoided making contact. He approached from behind my car and started yelling, asking if I owned the parking lot and whether I think I can park here. This was my first interaction with this person. I would have appreciated a conversation like a normal human being. Asking nicely the first time doesn't hurt. There were kids around. Imagine a business that offers classes to children with a head instructor that shows this kind of behavior. Do you want your kids to look up to such person and businesses? If this person is the owner, shame on you as well. If the owner sees this, maybe reconsider your policy for your instructor to behave more like an adult in a public settings around other kids?
