This place is amazing. My boys have played every sport but this is the only one where they always leave feeling more confident than they did walking in. My three year old just started as well and he loves it. The instructors are so personable and really provide a great environment for all the kids. I wish I would have signed them up sooner. Tbh this place is like a second home to me, it helped me through when I didn't have great days and it helped me overcome those days. I had became more confident around people because these people here at RMA let me be myself around them and enjoy having fun with and it's like a second family. When we moved to TN from IL, a friend who owns a BJJ school in the Chicago burbs said, “if your kids want to do BJJ, you’re near RMA, that’s where you need to take them.” We have a few BJJ schools closer to us and we bypass them all to attend RMA and it’s honestly been the best decision we’ve made for our youngest. He tried all the standard “ball” sports and hated them all. He’d cry and meltdown every time we told him he had practice or a game. We almost gave up but asked if he’d like to try BJJ. He absolutely LOVES it. He goes 3x per week and begs to go on his off days. This place is more than a BJJ school, it’s a family. He adores Prof Marcelo, Prof John and Coach Gabe. His confidence has improved as has his behavior and maturity. If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he says “a professor at RMA…and a pizza maker.” (He’s 7 lol). Thank you RMA!

I lived in Nolensville during the first half of 2021 and trained at RMA during that time. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Professor Ribeiro is a fantastic instructor and has done a great job creating a positive training environment. Everyone I trained with had a positive attitude and was ready/excited to learn. Professor Ribeiro’s son, Jonathan, is a fantastic instructor himself as well as Coach Steve. Professor’s wife, Renata, as well as the rest of the staff were always accommodating and great to talk to. RMA Jiu Jitsu Nolensville is a rare find these days. It is essentially one big wonderful family. The owners are incredibly welcoming and they make all the members part of their family. My son has been going over the last 3 years and I’m amazed at how much he’s grown in strength but more importantly in character. It is a perfect place for boys and girls (an adults if you’re up for it) to learn valuable life lessons about discipline, hard work, and achievement. I can’t say enough positive things about RMA Nolensville and Brentwood. I am a 50 yr old father of 3. My 11 yr old son started taking classes about a year and half ago. It is been an awesome experience for him. He has learned Jui Jitsu and so much more about himself and life. So much in fact, that it inspired me to start. Yes, a 50 yr old out of shape dad!! The main reason behind the awesome experience is Prof. Marcelo Ribeiro and his family. This is more than just a gym teaching a martial art. Prof. Marcelo is an amazing instructor that goes way above and beyond just teaching Jiu Jitsu. He REALLY cares for his students. He has a sincere very genuine concern for their well being while training and learning Jiu Jitsu. After attending classes for about 6 months I had my 50 yr old physical. My blood pressure was lower, my cholesterol was better and I had dropped a few pounds. My doctor asked what lifestyle changes I had made...the only thing different from the year before was doing Jui Jitsu with Prof Marcelo. He was amazed! I would highly recommend coming and trying a free class. You will not be disappointed and I bet you will sign up. No matter your age, sex, race or physical condition or ability....every new student is welcomed by the Prof Marcelo, his family and other students. RMA Nolensville isn’t a gym it is a community.

Less than half a year into my jiu jitsu journey, I moved to Tennessee for 3 months for school. While in TN, I trained very often at RMA, even going on to participate in my first tournament as an RMA team member! The environment is perfect, Professor Marcelo's instruction is top notch, and his coaches and other students will eagerly help you learn all you can from each class! This year makes four years that I have been training under Professor Marcelo. I can't begin to explain just how huge a positive influence that he, and his school have been for me and my family. For those that don't know what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is, or how a school like RIO Martial Arts works, let me take a moment to explain. This is not like a normal gym membership where nobody knows you, or other martial arts where after a few years you learn about all there is to learn. There is a massive level of trust between EVERYONE at our school. Everyone is treated with respect and encourages each other to get better. Just by the very nature of how we train trust and respect are a requirement. I feel like I am part of a family. RIO Martial Arts Academy is my tribe. Here is the other thing. BJJ has a depth to it that is amazing. I have been doing this for almost four years and I feel like I have only scratched the surface of what it is. If you think that you can come in, take a few months of classes and now your are the next UFC Champ, well, I don't think that this is the place for you. If, however you want to learn learn something that will continually challenge you and train full blast in a safe and trusting environment among amazing people. Jiu jitsu was not my idea. Especially not for a 4 year old. My son's dad took us to different gyms around Nashville. When he finally choose Rio I could see why. Professor Marcelo was very engaging and answered my questions. I watched as he worked with the students. I was impressed that he knew all of their names! But more impressed at how he was concerned about each student. He knew how to make each lesson applicable to each student. Wow! As my son started training I was still not sold on jiu jitsu. After about 5 months of training, at 4 yrs old, my son won his first tournament, in all categories. At the tournament I was so impressed with the professors' individual coaching and affection. It didn't take long for me to see the many benefits of jiu jitsu. Unfortunately, After training with RMA 5 years, we moved out of state. My son started at a new gym recommended by Professor Marcelo as one of the best in the US. While I watched my son roll with his new team, i could not stop thinking about how grateful i was for Prof Marcelo and Team Rio. At Rio Martial Arts we were more than a team, we were a family. I don't think there is a better gym out there. The inclusive, caring environment is what makes this gym Nashville's Best for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I don't think my son would've had the success that he has with another gym. They are just awesome. Seriously. As a teacher, I appreciate that Rio Martial Arts is dedicated to their students first. Professor Marcelo clearly cares about *all* of his students - he doesn't focus solely on the students who win competitions, but gives praise and constructive criticism to all, including kids (like my son) who are not in it to compete. I personally highly recommend anyone that is interested in Brazilian Juijitsu Should go to Rio martial arts academy . I have 3 son that goes there . My 2 oldest been there for 6 yrs now . They come home and tell me every day that they love training with there Professor Marcelo!! They even say that Professor and his wife Renata is there 2nd family . That tell you how much they love that place . The technic and skill he put his time out and train the kids . My boys learn so much from him . He put his love and time in each and every kid . Rio Martial Arts Academy is an incredible environment for training. Professional, friendly, and family oriented, it represents a wonderful opportunity to relax and to detoxify after a hard day at work. I trained as much as I can with my daughter Greta and Professor Marcelo is always there helping us to improve. I highly recommend this Academy. Just a fantastic place. Outstanding! The atmosphere at facilities really determines your experience. As an older student and as a physical therapist, I am there to learn and not get hurt. Professor Marcelo sets the tone for a nurturing, engaging and great learning experience. I not only feel comfortable training there but also have my son training there as well. The team at Rio Martial Arts Academy is amazing!! They are some of the most genuine people I know and they really care about each one of the students. You will not find a better group of guys and girls than the adults and kids that train here. It really feels like a family. The facility is always kept in good shape and the mats are sprayed and cleaned everyday. RMA is a terrific place to train!!

Simply the very best instruction you can get in the Nashville area. Classes are taught by a high level black belt with decades of experience. The academy is an upbeat family friendly environment that is great for children, teens, and adults who want to learn self defense and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My children and I have been training here for two years and the experience has been absolutely fantastic. Professor Marcelo is patient, detailed, and disciplined. Yet, he makes learning fun and exciting. My children look forward to training and it has helped them to become more respectful and confident kids. This is my third year training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A couple years ago we moved from Michigan to Tennessee and while house hunting we met Professor Marcelo and his family. They are truly wonderful people and made us feel right at home. For them, BJJ is a family affair and they live and breathe it every day. They helped to make our transition to the Nashville area much easier. The academy has become a major part of our life and they have become like family to us. We couldn't be happier with our decision to join!

Sadly this looked like a great place to have a class with amazing reviews. Unfortunately when I asked about pricing they were not upfront. They only gave me the special for 6 weeks that is $199, then wouldn’t tell me the regular pricing after that until I attended a free class. I will not be going because I don’t trust the lack of transparency in pricing.
