A great way to spend a Sunday morning in Renzo's Academy in NYC. Nice technical session and sparring, Professor was very welcoming, as were the students. Thanks all 🥋🙏👊
World-class trainer if you want to be trained in peaceful place this is the best place to visit
Skill developed, family vibes, friendly staff, clean environment, hugs services
World-class instruction and awesome environment. Come ready to learn
Incredible instructors, incredible students. If you want to train BJJ, this is the place to go!
I'm not going to lie to you. I came in as a visitor expecting everyone here to be first-class jerks. Turns out they weren't. Everyone was respectful to each other during rolls, instructors were very attentive to everyone on the mats and it was overall a pretty nice session.
I train at RG in Los Angeles most of the time but travel for work so drop into gyms around the world frequently. I've always wanted to go to the illustrious "Blue Basement" where some of the greatest combat sport athletes in the world have put in rounds! My first visit here today did not disappoint. I was welcomed by very friendly staff at the front desk, introduced to the instructor and given a tour. The advanced jiujitsu class was well run, and very beneficial to my learning. I peeked my head in and saw the foundations class was well-attended and organized in the other room adjacent to us, and the Muay Thai mat was high-energy! What an amazing gym. I highly recommend it whether you're a combat sports vet, or completely new and want to try. Everyone is super nice and you'll have a lot of support and great training partners. Max stars for Renzo Gracie New York Midtown (HQ)!!! *Pictured left to right: myself, Professor Robson Gracie (master Renzo's youngest brother), and my friend-New York City fitness professional celebrity-Rick Richey!
The real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
I've registered for both. This place has the sprit. Superb academy/instructors/members!! Awesome!
Superbe expérience, l’entraînement est top et les tatamis sont géants et propres
One of the best decisions in my entire career was coming to this academy. Not only do you meet people from every walk of life, but the level of detail and overall history here is hard to match. Was training at Renzo's for a little over two years. Under their Muay Thai Program, under coach Mark and Mateo. Not only is this gym highly credentialed in BJJ, but equally as talented when teaching Muay Thai.
Its a very nice place with amazingly nice instructers and teachers!
Very welcoming community and solid instructors. Definitely worth scoping out with the trial classes if you're interested.
I was there for a moment, and Renzo Gracies nephew, Victor and his wingman, Jason came walking it. They greeted me as if I was a long lost friend and made me feel at home. I was given a basic tour by Jason. I got changed and started basic warm ups with the class - Jog, butt kick, side to side, shrimp, etc. The instruction was broken down. All and all it probably had 15 moves. We did breakout sessions w/ a partner 1st 5 moves, then 2nd 5 moves, then 3rd. Then, you drilled with resistance against the moves, once you had the move down start to finish. After drilling, I rolled with a purple belt then blue, white and then a black belt. That black belt, George, holy cow, was he good. I gave it my all to try and kill him. I'm pretty sure during our roll, he checked his email and made a sandwich. That man was amazing!!!!! My drilling partner and all of my rolling partners; everyone was uber cool. On my way out the door, I was stopped by Victor , who initially greeted me. After a quick discussion, he introduced me to Professor Renzo's daughter, who was just as cool as everyone else. I'd highly recommend this place. I'm giving it 5 🌟 because I can't give it 6. Show up on time, have a clean gi and be kind and respectful, and you'll love the place and fit in with no issues. This place produced the "Danaher Death Squad". I'm sure that they have "drop ins" trying to see if they can dominate Renzo's students. Don't be "that guy." Nobody likes "that guy."
Home sweet home
Best place to train and learn jiu jitsu. Amazing professors, great comradery amongst students. Can't recommend this place and picking up a martial art enough to someone. Been such a positive in my life.
Melhor academia de JJ do mundo!
The Mecca of Jiujitsu in NYC!
No place like RGA NYC! Blue Basement is home!
I've been a student here for over a year, I really enjoy the Muay Thai and BJJ group classes. Great instructors who are knowledgeable and supportive. I felt right at home as a beginner! And shoutout to my coach Pj for those killer private lessons!
Great place to train and awesome people
I have been working privately with Elijah, who is an incredible person and teacher. He has been super supportive and patient with me with my very first intro to Muay Thai. I can't say enough great things about him. All of the staff I have met here have been really kind and encouraging as well. Having no prior experience, Renzo Gracie has really made me feel very comfortable and welcomed into their family. If you're thinking about trying this out, do it.
Dropped into two gi classes, learned a ton I could apply to my training at my gym back home
Top class.
Everything I am today is because of the guidance I got from all the amazing Professors and teammates .
Great
Best bjj gym in the world!
Great atmosphere all around from friendly staff to trainers to students - really one big family. For all levels from beginners to world champions. You found the right place ⭐️
Top instructors, history of excellence, very clean, and family friendly. Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Mixed Martial Arts, Wrestling, Boxing… I love this gym! If you or your family are looking to increase physical fitness, improve overall health, learn self-defense, train with top athletes, learn from the best in BJJ, MMA, and Muay Thai… I highly recommend this gym!!
Parabéns pelo grande trabalho// agradeço por fazer parte dessa família GRACIE//RGA🥋🔥🥋🔥🥋😃.NUNCA DORME
Best place in the world.
Renzo Gracie Academy is a phenomenal place to study BJJ. I have been going for 2 years. They have the best professors in the game who compete regularly themselves and who are gracious when helping out their students collectively and individually. I also appreciate the fact that they have plenty of showers and lockers in the mens locker room. Don’t be afraid to jump in and be bad at something new - Jiu Jitsu is a highly rewarding endeavor, a necessity for self defense, and a great workout. I wish I could spend my whole day doing it at this gym with this team. Oss 👊🏻
Renzo Gracie Academy is filled with great instructors, highly skilled who love to teach and amazing people from all over the world, eager to learn and push themselves with you. I’ve met some of the best people I’ve ever known here.
Amazing place, the best instructors in the planet.
Renzo Gracie Academy is the best Brazilian JiuJitsu academy in New York City and in the world. The Professors and staff are some of the best in all of JiuJitsu. The facility is second to none with over 1,500 square feet and 3 floors of space with huge mat areas & locker rooms making it one of the biggest in the world. The academy offers a wide range of classes for all levels through out the whole day ( Morning, Afternoon & Evening ). Monday through Friday there are 5 beginners classes a day making it easily accessible for someone starting. The academy has been open since 1996 and a staple in the JiuJitsu community ever since…. Located in the heart of midtown Manhattan it is easy to get too and begin your training. I highly recommend coming in and trying a class.
Best and biggest academy in the city that has something for everyone: competitive gi jiu-jitsu, no-gi grappling, Muay Thai kickboxing, and self-defense. All of the instructors are highly-skilled in their respective areas, and each class usually has several other experts on the mats to help answer questions and help out. One of the biggest schools I've seen – there's three levels of mat space, which lets them offer plenty of classes throughout the day, so there's plenty of options to fit your schedule. Also worth mentioning is the locker rooms and shower area is probably the biggest of the gyms in the city, an underrated amenity if you plan on training before or after work and need to be able to shower and change in a timely manner or have a locker for your things.
Academia Renzo Gracie é a melhor academia dos últimos tempos! Realmente somos todos família. OSS!
Best Jiu Jitsu academy in the world
Hands down the best place to learn Jiu-Jitsu in the planet. The blue basement is home to world champions and life champions.
Best school in Manhattan, great people and world class instructors.
The best academy in the world! Friendliest faces even better jiu Jitsu… my favorite is the Muay Thai ! Come try a class !
Academia top! Equipe família! Oss
A fonte!
Best academy in the world. Very nice environment for both beginners and active competitors. Plenty of classes on schedule, and high level instruction by the best in the business. If you are looking for a place to train, go check it out, you won’t regret it!
The Mecca of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Northeast. All the staff is extremely friendly from the front desk to all the professors. Classes are taught by high level professors who’ve been learning from the best of the best. All students are very welcoming and helpful. If you’re looking for high level training, recreational training or even to get in healthy lifestyle — highly recommended.
Amazing place to learn and train Jiu Jitsu. The roster of world class professors is phenomenal and there are classes through the day to suit any schedule.
World class training in a family oriented environment. I was initially intimidated by its reputation, but once you actually sign up and take a class, you never feel over your head and the training is structured in a way that you grow and develop in Jiujitsu. Their Muay Thai program is also structured in a way that you grow and develop incrementally and never feel over your head or lost. Highly recommended.
best place to train in nyc
I love this place
What a great place
The best place to learn Jiu-Jitsu!!!! Renzo Gracie academy is amazing place in all aspects. It’s a pleasure to learn here and having fun!
Best jiujitsu academy in new york city, amazing staff, amazing place and amazing group of people, very clean and organized space! If your looking for a jiujitsu academy in new york city this will be your best option!
Best place/people. Thankful for this place and what I’ve learned here.
Just here for a drop-in but everyone was Nice, high level training partners and instructors.
The best instructors in the world!
This academy is a great place to train. They have classes spread throughout the day so it's easy to find a time that works for you. The teaching is top notch. There are a variety of professors who have different specialties, and different body types so you can align with training that best fits your style. There is also an expertly run women's program as well. So if you feel a little apprehensive rolling with guys or just want more female training partners they have you covered. 🙂
Great place to learn bjj, a ton of competitive jitsers, great teachers and facilities. Mats are clean and training places are well air conditioned. Felt at home there.
It's a leading gym in BJJ, tons of classes (all-you-can-do at fixed monthly price), and all classes are usually full, tons of BJJ happening here all day long.
One of THE BEST academies to train jiu jitsu in the WORLD 🙏🏼
So much knowledge, so little time
I was member of RGA for about two years and it changed my life! I took BJJ and Thai boxing and gained so much physical and mental acuity. The instructors and classmates are very supportive and everyone wants everyone else to succeed and improve as it raises everyone’s level of proficiency. I’m ready to start going back very soon and can’t wait!!!
From the very beginning you are taught technique that will work on a high level, not gimmicky techniques that will only work on people with less mat time than you. I’ve been to several of the best gyms in NJ and the level of instruction, and as a byproduct, the level of the students, is second to none. Fun, competitive, but not ego driven rolls just raises everybody’s level that much faster.
I Love it!
Best place to train with people that makes it feel like your second home
Best training
Hardcore martial artists go here. The white belts with any stripes are dedicated, the instructors are cool and there are plenty of people to grapple with. They do make you use their branding on a gi, if you don't buy one, they'll let you borrow one. Full facilities and high skill level here (GI BJJ).
I was invited to train with a friend while I was finishing up my engineering course at Columbia and I barely had enough money to buy a beer on the weekends. After my first class renzo pulled me aside and said I want you to train here... I said I would love to train here but I don’t have the money right now and I am still in school. He then said don’t worry you pay me when you can I want you to train here. This is the type of man that runs renzo Gracie Accademy.
My husband and I have been with Renzo Gracie Academy for years, and our children are members of the academy as well. Amazing staff, meticulous professionalism, world-class techniques. With Thai boxing and MMA thrown in for good measure, our entire family feels confident in our self-defense skills. We can't visit to go back when the businesses re-open.
Dropped in for a beginner BJJ class while visiting from Houston. Paid $40 to drop in and $10 for gi rental which pretty reasonable considering the classes offered. I was warmly welcomed by Jason, a brown belt at the academy who also offered a tour of the facility and was interested in getting to know the school I was visiting from (Gracie Barra Westchase) and even knew some of the team from my home school. Although the facilities are a bit old, I found everything to be very clean and proper. I also found it very interesting that the beginner BJJ class was ALL white belts without any higher belts. I guess this could bode well if you're really interested in growing with the people you start with. Overall, a very high level experience and I'd recommend it to anyone! Oss!
Probably the best place to train BJJ on the planet right now.
Dropped in the beginners gi evening class on 10/15/2019, while in the city for a business trip. They offer Gi rental which is reasonably priced and very convenient. Great facility, instructors and students- very respectful, welcoming, and safety conscious. The professor gave me the same attention and technique correction during drills as his other students, which was first rate. Will definitely drop in again when visiting NYC. Thanks RGA!
Great academy great black belts actually one of the best black belts that I rolled with was from that academy.
What an amazing school with a great vibe! I stopped in when Master Renzo and John Danaher were doing a charity seminar for one of their students who had cancer. Students were super cool and it was an amazing experience to walk into the World Headquarters of the Renzo Gracie Academy for the first time!
This place is amazing. Just an unbelievably welcoming gym with incredible instruction from the best in the world. Renzo is so full of positive energy it permeates throughout. I loved every second I was there and look forward to going back.
Best school in NYC hands down! Renzo and his staff are true professionals and truly make you feel like part of the family! Try them out you will not regret it:)
An excellent dojo and fitness facility for those seriously interested in Brazilian JiuJitsu and overall conditioning. The instructors are outstanding and committed to actively teaching students of all levels. It’s also a great place to catch a seminar also held by some of the best instructors in the industry. I have never been disappointed with a single experience here.
I don’t often give reviews but felt compelled to after reading a few negative reviews. I was a bit shocked at how clean the gym was and how friendly and helpful the people were. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a big smiling hello by a Muay Thai instructor. I said I'm from out of town and would like to take a no gi class with John Danaher. He said the gym is officially closed for the holidays but feel free to look around. There are three floors and the jiu jitsu is downstairs. There, I was greeted by another friendly face who also said the gym was closed and that John Danaher was out of town for the holidays. However, he was there to open the gym for people who wanted to train during the break and invited me join them. I’ve been to many BJJ gyms in the US and have never met kinder or friendlier people! Later I mentioned about the negative reviews. He responded, “Sometimes you get what you give.” These guys went way above and beyond the normal courtesy service. I had an awesome experience! Two thumbs up to Renzo Gracie’s NYC!!!
Had a great class with Gordan teaching. Helpful info, very nice people. Ample locker room space. I liked the vibe and it wasn't crazy rough while being competitive.
Outstanding academy. The instructors are excellent, at the top of the art, and are all friendly and welcoming. Plenty of class offerings at many times of the day. Classes are full of knowledgeable and dedicated students. Great place to train.
Can't say enough good things about this academy. Instruction, training partners and facility far exceeded what anyone could hope for from an academy. Thank you for having me.
Best environment I could hope for to practice BJJ.
Renzo's is the place to be!! World class instructors who truly care about your progression. Training there is one of my favorite things to do. Can't wait to train tomorrow.
Great place for quality jiu-jitsu with a welcoming vibe. Renzo is awesome and his instructors show the vast diversity within the RGA family. Always look forward to visiting HQ from Canada.
Great instruction and many great training partners. Highly recommend to anyone that wants to improve their quality of life by learning an amazing martial art and improve your health.
The very best martial arts I have ever had the privilege of joining.
The best jiu-jitsu AND martial art in the NY city. Maybe in the world. Dont miss it!
Great place for jui jitsu with large classes, a lot of different people to train with.
Hello Everyone, if your looking for world class training come to Renzo Gracie Academy. The instructors, students are very friendly. If your new to the BJJ, MuayThai, MMA there no worries, beginners are welcomed, met the owner Renzo Gracie his very warming, hospitality. The Gracie family is known in the world, the facility is the largest academy in the east coast and New York City.
I came here from another affiliate in Jersey almost 2 years ago now. I believe this to be one of the finest academies to train at in the NYC area. There are very few places where you can go and spend an entire day learning, drilling, and training with high level and professional sport BJJ players. If you train at the downtown academy you also have the ability to train in the Brooklyn school at no additional cost so no matter what schedule you work there are always opportunities to train. Life is what you make it let's get after it. Peace.
Professor Renzo Gracie and staff make everyone feel so welcome, awesome environment and culture. Love it here!
I have had the pleasure of training and learning Brazilian Jiu JItsu with amazing professor Renzo Gracie and his team for many years now. Every time I walk through the doors they always make me feel welcome and a part of a big family. When you're training here, you can't help but feel like you're training in Brazil. Its a great vibe and a wonderful atmosphere very conducive for training. I have taken classes with Professor John Danaher for several years now and his attention to detail is second to none. He offers a one of a kind approach to learning the art. No matter if your desire is to learn BJJ, Muay Thai, Self Defense, or MMA there isn't any wonder people travel from all over to train here. If you're in NYC its a must.
Training here for 10+ years. Yes its in the basement and yes its hot and humid and smells a little bit when you come in, and yes its the best school with the best talent around. If you want a to train with the best guys in New York and the best instructors around Renzo Gracie Nyc and Brooklyn is the place.
Renzo Gracie Academy , is 1st and foremost one of the best schools for MMA and BJJ in the wrold , Led by non other the most "Grace"Ful person in MMA Renzo Gracie, He personifies , Class, personality, respect , and humility. one of the best people I ever met in my life, The others there show the same type of class. Luciano Cristovam, Zed Chierghini, and Professor John Danaher, Magno Gama, Rafael Sapo Natal, Gregor and Igor Gracie....all the best guys around
If you want to learn bjj this is one of the top academies in the world. Yes it's expensive but it is in Manhattan of course it would be. The commenter above talking about one of the owners "Mrs Latta" being rude needs to learn how and where to write a review. Your talking about an affiliate school out in the sticks of Pennsylvania which Renzo has nothing to do with the day to day operations of. I would have thought the NY address would have showed you were in the wrong place.
Renzo is an uplifting individual who inspires people to do better by challenging themselves. He is a great role model for the kids!
Wish the Muay Thai class schedule had a few more options (like MWF morning classes) but love it otherwise! Amazing teachers and people
I wanted to like this place as much as its other nyc locations but the kids class instructors leave much to be desired. They are two purple belt young men who spend the class laughing and joking with each other, talking about personal things and texting. They are too immature to teach and lack the professionalism and discipline this sport requires. A school with such a prestigious name should have better quality teachers.
Unfortunately lost money to a trainer here after refusing to train for personal reasons. I was even willing to settle for half the amount, but unfortunately received argumentative voice memos instead.
We were turned away from training because we were late. Me and 2 other cops got off late and went straight to the gym and was denied access. We are visiting from out of town and not given a courtesy. In my home gym, if you're late you pick up where the lesson is.
I terminated my membership after 6+ years because of the head instructor at Muay Thai program, who accused me of lying about ordering my new boxing gloves. Mind you, my gloves (and many many gloves prior) were stolen at this academy. I don't know where he gets the guts to talk to ANYBODY like that. It's a shame he is the head instructor because I happened to like the other instructors. I know too many people who had left the academy because of him. And like the others, I've just joined another academy and very happy with my decision.
