Went to an Open Mat session the other day. The younger members were very welcoming of an old guy as I'm 61 years old. They took time to work with me as well as go live but at a very safe pace.

I started my Journey 3 1/2 years ago. This gym has shown me what it’s like to put myself out there and go for what I want. The members were friendly since day one. Having some of these new found relationships spill outside the gym for causal hangouts and celebrations of each other. Great place to call home.

My son was not at all happy about his dad signing him up for martial arts and boxing but after just 1 class here he is super excited to be in classes. He had a really good time. The people who are running it are really nice, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for BJJ and boxing classes
It's a great environment full of all types of friendly personalities from kids to adults it's all friendly people that make you feel like part of a family. The pura vida team family, respect, discipline, self defense, and competition at the top level of mixed martial arts as you see in UFC is what they pride in, but they're also involved in the community with programs for college kids from UWM and local Wrestling Clubs.

They build fighters from the ground up. It doesn’t matter if you just want to have fun or defend yourself or even win championships then pura vida is the gym for you.

Pura Vida is an incredible place. The coaches are great, keep things light hearted, welcoming to everyone and focus on individual improvement within even the largest classes. The new gym is huge, very clean and has a great setup. I highly recommend!
I've been with PVBJJ for about 7 years, and they have never disappointed me. I've always felt accepted by PVBJJ where I felt other Milwaukee gyms tried to push me into more practices than I wasn't comfortable with, or had cliques that weren't inviting. They work with you to get the experience you need. Jake and Zak are awesome!
I did a mid day no-gi with Josh. He did a deep dive into a technique, and gave a lot of options (and explanations on details) from there so that by the end of class even I (who doesn't normally work from there) felt good in that position. In short, he seems like a very good instructor. A shower is available. Visitor friendly.
Honestly best mma gym I’ve been to and growing up in foster care as a child I found the guidance and role models I needed to be successful here. The classes and coaches led me to believe in myself and my career in mma. It gave me confidence in life too. It’s an accepting place for people trying to find a hobby, lifestyle or try something new. 414 love
I would give 10 stars if I could. I was in Milwaukee for the summer and picked Pura Vida as the place to train; 5:15pm Kickboxing / Muay Thai into 6:30pm Jiu Jitsu. I have lived in many places and it is not often you find gyms with striking and Jiu Jitsu in the same place, not to mention a city with multiple gyms that offer this. What made Pura Vida stand out was that you trained right along side professional and amateur fighters. Everyone takes the time to help you with your form and technique, no egos. Additionally, they have awesome seminars and bring in great guys like Ryan Courtney. Pura Vida will be the thing I miss most about Milwaukee.

Taught me how to fight through pain
One of the things that I love about Pura Vida BJJ & MMA is that all of their jiu jitsu, MMA, kickboxing and self-defense trainers in Milwaukee, WI are so nice and personable. The vibe and the atmosphere of the gym makes training with these fighters so amazing. I really feel they're the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in Milwaukee. I was happy to see they even train kids in martial arts on their website.
From: Omaha Strangler (Facebook Account), From the moment I stepped into this gym, I knew that I was coming into a real mma gym, with real fighters. When I stepped on the mats I also noticed something that was rare to any other gym Ive been to for no gi bjj training - they made everyone do a minute excercise station between each roll. This made me focus on my technique more than using strength, which is a ptoblem I fall into sometimes. This also means that this is a good gym to train for competition readiness. Ive been training bjj for five years and this is the first time ive seen this implemented. I love it. My training partners were knowledgeable and also ego free which is rare to find in gyms nowadays. Please give them a try if you haven't already. They are also very hospitable as well.

Professional and courteous staff. Jake, Zak, & Matt are fantastic coaches and training partners. They care about their students and do everything they can to get the most out of them. They run a fantastic and fun kids grappling program which my son attends and my daughter will as well when she is old enough. So whether you are looking to get in shape, learn self defense or compete Pura Vida is the place for you.
I have traveled all over the United states and done training in Brazil. Pura Vida has one of the healthiest martial arts school cultures with the highest level of instruction and pedigree. It is extremely clean which is very important student health. Highly recommend.
Very will versed, training is both educational and challenging, never had a dull moment of practice.
I tried many gyms and I really just didn;t fit in, but after trying this gym I found a new home. Jake and Zak along with Leah have a passion for teaching people while always being humble and learning new things and techniques. Its a goofy bunch they have, but they have become great friends.
Basic 1 2 punch combo. Will not let you take advanced classes until you have so many beginner classes in no matter your experience. No sparring. Was told someone would get in contact with me about advanced classes and sparring and I have yet to receive correspondence from anyone. Your better off looking up youtube videos and punching a bag than wasting your money on this "top notch" gym. Sorry not sorry
