We dropped by for a Friday class while visiting family in the area. This was one of the nicest, cleanest, most welcoming gyms I’ve ever been to. Prof. Marco ran a really great class and I learned a lot. Highly recommend giving Providence BJJ a try - I sincerely can’t imagine a better environment for BJJ.
Was visiting town for the month, and I am so happy to have found a home away from home in Providence BJJ. The space is beautiful, clean, and inviting with locker rooms and showers. The other students are extremely friendly, considerate, and fun to train with! I have been able to train with people of all different levels here and there is no shortage of time after class to roll. Professor Marco is a truly great individual with a wealth of knowledge in BJJ, a passion for teaching, and a knack for uplifting everyone in the room. I am sad to be leaving, but would highly recommend Providence BJJ to anyone looking for great community and great jiujitsu!
I started attending classes at Providence BJJ at a time where I was going through a lot in such a short period of time. Attending classes here brought my mind back to a place that felt tranquil and at ease. It is definitely an experience I’ll never forget.
I was very lucky to drop in for a class while visiting my family in Providence. Teachers and facilites are above any expectations you can have. Super clean and inclusive dojo. Good sense of community and the methodology they teach JJ is very professional and inclusive to any color belt. learned a lot in very few time. 100% recommend!
I was fortunate enough to drop in for a class while visiting family in Providence. This place has it all:top-notch instruction that will up your practice no matter your belt color, a sense of community and purpose, great vibes and a welcoming atmosphere.
If you're looking for a welcoming and supportive BJJ community, Providence BJJ is for YOU! I highly recommend this place!
I visited this gym with my son who is a student there. I was so impressed with the facility and the class. All of the students made me feel welcome and the teacher made me feel like a part of the class even though I had no experience. I learned a few techniques right off the bat. I highly recommend the gym if you are looking for an inclusive and friendly place to learn Jiu Jitsu.
Outstanding family friendly environment. Experienced instructors. Challenging classes for all ages. Clean, secure and welcoming environment. Great for beginners and advanced grapplers. Perfect addition to any wellness routine.
Great instruction and a welcoming environment. I was very new to grappling but the space here made learning the art very fun. Prof. Marco is the real deal.
Competing tomorrow so stopped by this gym to get some rolls for the Friday open mat. Would definitely recommend a lot of higher belts that can give you a decent roll but also very friendly and hospitable atmosphere. Got around 9-10 rolls and everybody was good but also respectful.
This gym is wonderful and so welcoming. I have been doing martial arts for most of my life and I have never seen a place make such a commitment to making sure students feel welcome, engaged, challenged, and are having a good time. I highly recommend this studio. Excellent teaching. Oh and its really clean too
Great place to learn self-defense and get some exercise in with knowledgeable teachers and students from all walks of life. A personal favorite was the 20-30 minute sparing session at the end of class which helped pressure test and solidify the techniques we learned. Tuesday class with Marco is available for beginners (like myself)!
Professor Marco is wonderful with kids, and runs an environment of respect, inclusion, and positivity.
I have been going to this gym for a few weeks now and cannot overstate how great the environment is here. Professor Marco is a dedicated instructor and has created a welcoming, motivating and comfortable atmosphere for both beginners and upper belts. The gym itself and its amenities (showers, changing rooms, bathrooms, etc.) are very clean and spacious as well. To anyone thinking about starting bjj, I highly recommend this gym— you won’t be sorry!
3 Stripe purple belt visiting from out of town and looking for some training and came across Providence BJJ. The vibe in this place is just so pleasant. Welcoming, clean, and comfortable. If you are wanting to start Jiu-Jitsu but the idea of stepping into a new space is too daunting for you start here. Beginning your journey with Marco in a space like this is perfect for someone looking for a warm accepting environment. Every time I travel here I will pop in for a visit from now on.
Providence Bjj is an awesome place to begin your jujitsu journey. The gym is filled with amazing people all around. I enjoy the diversity and comfort that this community offers. When I first walked in I knew providence bjj was filled with warm people. Professor Marco is an amazing coach and over all person. He has provided a safe and enjoyable experience and it truly shows in the space he has created. I 100% recommend providence Bjj for anyone and everyone.
Providence BJJ is a gorgeous, clean, plant-filled space that exudes welcoming and inclusive energy. There's a real intention behind cultivating a community committed to equity and justice and creating a safe space for folks who might not feel as comfortable in traditional gym spaces.
Exceptional gym. First time doing martial arts and the environment was so welcoming, clean and professional! Prof Marco is a lovely and skilled tutor who teaches the art of jiu-jitsu with intelligence and grace. Highly recommended!
I was lucky enough to drop in to train at Providence BJJ when I was visiting out of town. Clean, open gym space with awesome vibes and aesthetic, plus welcoming students. Professor Marco is a phenomenal instructor for any level, and the class was a great workout and also great for learning. I would highly recommend training here for anyone living in the Providence area, or at the very least drop in if you’re visiting!
Amazing Teachers, Beautiful People, Clean space. Marco and My two older children, my two younger children also attend.
A beautiful and welcoming space, with instructors who make it just as easy to try things out for one day, or start as a beginner with no experience. Best training space in the state since they opened!
Providence BJJ is amazing in so many ways and it is the full package if you’re looking for a safe, fun, and effective BJJ gym. The head coach is approachable, teaches in a clear understandable way, and gives you one on one attention when needed to help you understand and improve your game. The atmosphere is safe and welcoming to all including all races, genders, and body types. It is also very friendly for those walking in the door as the first time setting foot in a martial arts gym!
Love BJJ! Marco gives a great class for all levels and backgrounds. He’s a thoughtful, engaged teacher who offers a safe environment to learn and practice.
Great place with amazing coaches/teachers. My sons love it here! Marco is very well educated on Jiu-jitsu, and very patient. I would totally recommend this place.
I’m a teacher at Pvd prep Charter and we took a group of 7th and 8th graders on a 2 day training. Confidence, self esteem, self respect, and respect amongst peers was gained. Unforgettable experience for these kids, and myself .
I was in town for a week and contacted Marco about an unlimited training pass for the week. He was very responsive and welcoming! As a woman, it can be a little nerve-wracking trying out a new gym; everyone at Providence was awesome, I was never uncomfortable and the gym is incredibly inclusive. They have separate changing rooms for men, women and all-gender, and gender neutral (and CLEAN) bathrooms. Their free Friday class for the community was a lot of fun and a great way for a beginner to try it out, all of the members will welcome you and work with you. If I'm ever back in Providence I'll definitely be stopping back in!
Cannot say enough for the team over here. Their energy, enthusiasm, and all around good-"ju-ju" ;) is unmatched. Our 6yr old daughter absolutely loves the kiddo classes -- we are so grateful for all of the benefits she'll take with her from this environment and their wisdom.
Love the trans jiujitsu group! Special and rare. I love the Octavia Butler and James Baldwin quotes on the wall. Was a magical part part of 2023
Professor Marco is incredibly knowledgeable in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and passionate about teaching the art. His lessons are always well thought out, and he breaks down jiu-jitsu into understandable concepts and movements. Professor Marco is approachable outside of class and always willing to answer questions and offer guidance. Try a class at Providence BJJ - between the welcoming atmosphere and the top-level instruction, you will be happy to start your jiu-jitsu journey.
Super welcoming space, can’t recommend highly enough
This place is great! Professor Marco is an excellent instructor, always making classes fun, relaxed, and productive. He’s so kind and helpful, and allows you to learn at your own pace and comfort level. The place has felt very welcoming and affirming to me as a queer person of color. Highly recommend checking out Providence BJJ, and they even have free Friday classes you can sit in on or participate in! Cant praise this place enough, or the great work of Professor Marco.
Really supportive and knowledgeable teachers. Marco is patient, helpful, and intentional. If you are at all interested in a workout that doesnt feel like a workout, self-defense, or becoming more intune with your body and it's abilities, then I highly reccomend this Jiu Jitsu studio. Its very fun and affordable and trans-friendly.
This is a great place. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There are all different types of people training here, different ages, genders, backgrounds. Professor Marcos is a skilled and compassionate teacher. I highly recommend training here.
I have been to so many BJJ gyms in my life and Providence BJJ has an incredible concept that goes beyond the martial art per si. In fact, I correct myself. What Prof Marco does is, indeed, the soul of this sport: integration. No matter who you are, no matter what you believe, no matter where you are coming from, you feel always welcomed at his house. I hope his project turns into something big enough to promote even more a change in society. After all, we are all individually trying to evolve. But once we decide to do that, respecting and supporting others, specially those that are invisible, we are making a better world.
Very beginner friendly!! I've gonna a few times now and it's been really easy to connect the concepts taught in each lesson. Nice balance of drills and active sparring.
Great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu studio! They offer multiple classes for all levels and the staff is very professional.
Had so much fun and felt so connected that I forgot to check my phone which i'm addicted to. That speaks volumes. Marco's passion for the gentle martial art is exhibited in every facet of his life and especially when he teaches. Great place to have fun, work out and learn while meeting amazing people. Best facility in the state. Providence BJJ is where it's at! Looking to return pronto.
Professor Marco’s teaching style made me feel so comfortable. I’m not really one for touching strangers but in class I felt comfortable grappling with other students I had never met. Thank you Professor Marco!
An extremely welcoming environment, everyone is friendly and encouraging. Marco is an amazing instructor and explains everything in an easily digestible way, focusing on move-by-move breakdown which helps perfect your technique. Great for beginners and the advanced as well. Super clean gym, nice private bathrooms and showers, big mat. 10/10
Both the instructors and students here are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I have ever met. As a girl with no previous martial arts experience I was nervous about starting Jiu-jitsu, but when I went to Providence BJJ everyone was so encouraging and ready to share their knowledge that I ended up signing up for a membership at the end of my first class. Providence BJJ isn’t just a Jiu-jitsu gym it’s a community and a family. When you join Providence BJJ you get to walk through the door every day knowing that everyone there genuinely cares about you as a friend and a martial artist. If you’re considering going to a Providence BJJ class my advice is do it, regardless of your skill level or experience, you will not regret it.
I've taken BJJ years ago, but wanted to get back into it. I tried a few other locations before landing at Providence BJJ. Unlike a lot of other gyms where you end up feeling like a rag doll for the higher belts to practice on when you first start, this was a very beginner friendly environment. Class starts with a light warm up, followed by a quick announcement of anything going on in the community. We then go into learning 2 or 3 techniques for the class, and drill them. The instructors are great about correcting your technique and giving you pointers during drills to help you learn faster. The last part of class is a sparring session where you get to practice what you've learned against a live opponent. Everyone works together and helps learn. Between class environment, and the focus on community I don't hesitate the recommend Providence BJJ to anyone who's thinking about learning martial arts.
Great place + instructors - especially if you’ve never tried and are curious about jujitsu. Fridays are free - also a great way to learn how to defend yourself without weapons. I usually attend alone, everyone is easy going and thankfully it’s never awkward to find partners.
Quality instruction in a clean facility. The atmosphere is friendly and the people are great.
Super fun and super friendly place. Go you will not regret it!
Top notch place to learn BJJ. The Facility is kept clean and the practitioners have great spirit. It’s always a great time when I come into class 🤙🏽
Great place to learn jiu jitsu. The instructors and students there have created an incredibly open and welcoming environment.
Extremely kind and welcoming place to get choked out by your new friends.
I've always felt welcome, particularly as a beginner with minimal experience. A great community to be a part of.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. If you are on the fence about trying BJJ, trust me, just sign up at this gym and try it out. It is so welcoming and beginner friendly while also being great for the more advanced!
The best I always fee welcome here and always get my work in great staff to
Professor Marco is a great teacher, the facility is nice and clean, the space is LGBT friendly, the other students are kind and helpful. Plus who doesn't like a lavender building?
I’ve been coming here about 3 months now and out of all the MMA/BJJ gyms I’ve been to in RI Providence BJJ has been my favorite gym to train out of. They have a great environment and atmosphere there. Everyone is friendly and social also Professor Marco is a very inviting and very approachable instructor. From his positive attitude to his deep knowledge and ability to teach, coming to Providence BJJ has been an amazing experience!
Fellow BIPOC women + queers, have you been looking for a welcoming and chill space to learn a martial art without intimidation and machismo? Look no further! Professor Marco and the rest of the Providence BJJ team have succeeded in creating a fun environment of sustainable growth, teamwork, and dad jokes. Stop by for a visit and see for yourself!

This is such a great place to train bjj. The space is clean and nice. Everyone is welcoming and all the instructors are super knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a place to train
Welcoming and fun environment to train BJJ at all levels! I was looking for somewhere to take classes this summer as a complete beginner and I'm really glad I found Providence BJJ. Prof Marco and all the other instructors are super friendly, and make space for all students (no matter their level) to learn. If you're worried about affordability, they offer free classes every Friday and are flexible with membership payments. The gym itself is also a cool space! I highly recommend anyone to give Providence BJJ a visit.
I am a beginner and my time spent at Providence BJJ so far has been exceptional. All are made to feel welcome, and the inclusive environment is very refreshing. Professor Marco is very engaging and knowledgeable, and every class has been a fun, pressure-free learning experience. Highly recommend.
Incredible and friendly environment. Great place to both start jiu jitsu and refine your technique. Professor Marco hosts beginner courses as well as more advanced sessions, and he teaches both extremely well and clearly.

I had the privilege of training at Professor Marco's gym, and it was an incredible BJJ experience. Professor Marco's friendly and approachable demeanor, combined with his expert knowledge, makes learning BJJ an absolute joy. The gym itself was well-maintained, clean and modern-looking. I also felt welcomed and supported by the friendly community. Overall, my time at Professor Marco's gym has been excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a BJJ gym to visit or to sign up for a subscription.

Ive been to a few Martial arts gyms and this is the Best BJJ gym in the state!!! Clean, great environment, all inclusive, and great teachings when it comes to BJJ. Students can only learn and get better in an environment that they are confident and comfortable in. This is it!!

Welcoming and clean learning environment with great Instructors. I enjoy the sessions and improving my skills, especially on fridays when it's more open.
I strongly recommend!! The instructors are amazing, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the classes are diverse. This BJJ studio is perfect for anyone who wants to learn and grow in a positive environment. I thought I would be intimidated starting such a high contact sport, but I’m so happy I joined in!
Thank you so much for a great class. You’ve made a beautiful space- truly. From being in a supportive, creative feeling space with warm people- and so many of us Black people —to having my Afrocuban self surprised to hear Buena vista social club in there. On so many levels I am grateful this space is a part of our community.
Providence BJJ is a wonderful place to practice! The instructors are skilled, attentive and encouraging, and everyone there is very friendly. It is a great place to go for beginners and for those at higher levels.
This is the best place in Providence to train BJJ. The instructors are incredible, the atmosphere is friendly, they are open to scheduling classes/open mat around when students are available, etc. Classes range from fundamentals of BJJ to all levels, and are easy to attend outside of work hours. Professor Marco Williams has something special brewing at Providence BJJ. Swing by!
Some of the best coaches I’ve ever had, across different sports. Fantastic community and a rich learning atmosphere. Beautiful gym highly recommend!
Jiujitsu school of the future! It will change your life, but without the macho nonsense or the useless hierarchy of some schools... welcoming and open to all while remaining very high level. The best!
Been having a blast learning the basics of jiu jitsu hand interacting with such kind and respectful folks. 10/10 would recommend.
Positive and welcoming space with great people! Highly recommend Providence BJJ!
There are so many good things to say about this gym. The most important is the community! The people are so kind and welcoming, it really feels like I am walking into a room full of family. The instructors are kind and extremely knowledgeable in their arts. They cater to athletes that have the desire to compete, hobbyists, and people who found the sport in search for a means of self defense. The space is huge! It has private bathrooms/showers, three different changing rooms (one for men, one for women, and another for non binary identifying people) , and a huge space to hang out when the space is open. This is unlike any gym I've ever been to. Overall I love this place, and would recommend it to anyone.
The caliber of training and people at pvd is unmatched! Every experience I’ve had there is better than the last with some of the most skilled, decorated, and friendliest training partners you can find
Amazing place to train with high level grapplers and kind people
Great instructions!! Friendly Crew!
