Been coming in here to train every now and then. Super chill staff and very friendly. Great instructors too. Just an all around dope spot for a chill guy who likes to roll.

The program we’ve experienced is top-notch for kids. Coach Braden and his coaching staff are not only highly skilled but also incredibly attentive to the children. It's an excellent choice for those seeking martial arts to instill discipline, as well as for kids who are interested in competitive opportunities.

Our son has been practicing jj for a few years now and I could not recommend this team more! We truly appreciate Coach Braden’s obvious dedication and approach to teaching all the kids! They let you come and check it out before making any large commitments which I know parents appreciate.

It was my first bjj class in well over a decade and these guys were all great. Good group of coaches and students, they take it as fast or slow as you need while teaching good fun technique. It was a gi class and they were more than kind to let me borrow one and a belt. 10/10 can't reccomend more!

Amazing school for our kids. They take time with each kiddo, teach them the basics, and help them advance! They also have belting ceremonies... More often than the adults. This is good because it keeps the kids aiming at something achievable and obtainable in a short amount of time... Which again, is good for kids

I've been training jiu jitsu here for three years, and my kids longer. Portela BJJ has an awesome adult and kids program. Everyone here is friendly and anyone is welcome whether they have no experience or have trained before. Instructors are great and share the wealth of knowledge they have with no hesitation. The adult schedule accommodates members who can only make it in the morning or in the evening and even those who can make both.

Great gym that can get you in shape for competition or just improve your game at your own speed. I've joined a lot of gyms over the years and this one is like having a family. Whatever your goal is this gym can help you reach it. Creative style is encouraged and they let you grow as a practitioner without rigid, structured approaches. Highly recommend.

After a few months of training here I can confidently leave a five star review for Portela BJJ. Everyone from the owner, Professor's, and group of students have been professional and welcoming. Since the first day of walking in to ask questions to every session afterwards, I have been treated with respect and given the attention needed with all of my questions. As someone completely new to BJJ, I was a little anxious to join but they made it not only easy to participate but exciting and engaging which has kept me eagerly coming back for more as much as I can. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in learning this amazing sport! Thank you Portela BJJ!!!

Portela bjj is an amazing place to study and train bjj...excellent coaching staff professor shawn is extreamly technical and very detailed in his approach ...kids class is awesome and the teachers take there time to explaine important details......great group to train with..... super happy to be there...

Professor Shaun is great at what he does. I absolutely love Portela BJJ. All the coaches are amazing. This guys now feel like family to me. If you have any doubts about starting jiu-jitsu, this guys will make it easy. Come check it out!

I can't say enough good things about this place and its coaches. Coming in completely blind to the BJJ experience, I was welcomed with open arms and ultimately choke holds. Not having any experience with martial arts or BJJ, I had no idea what to expect and was nervous. Shawn and the rest of the crew could not have been more patient and welcoming. I particularly like how the classes are structured and how everyone that has more experience than you will take the time to guide you through the lesson so you don't miss a beat. I'd encourage anyone to show up and give it a shot if you even remotely thought about trying BJJ.

My daughters love and thrive in this program. We have tried a number of after school activities to find someplace that they both look forward to going to, and this is the place. Shawn and his crew seem so authentic. My girls have learned so much in a short amount of time. Their confidence in their new skills grows every day and the self defense moves that they learn and practice are very impressive. I can't say enough! We are very grateful to have found you guys! Portela BJJ is great. I started at Portela in early ’15 as a New Year’s resolution to get into shape. I came in with absolutely no martial arts/wrestling background and they’ve been amazing to work with. Helping me along the way and being patient while answering all my questions has been a huge bonus. For me, learning how to hold my own in a fight sure beats running nowhere on a treadmill towards a dot on the wall. I highly recommend Portela Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu not just for a good workout and getting in shape but for a confidence booster.

Definately the Best martial arts & BJJ school in the Aurora and Centennial areas! I've been training and multiple places in Denver and this place by far is the Best. I highly recommend it to other. Quality instructions along with fellow peeps assisting on form. Call Them!

Good, detailed instruction and a welcoming environment. My 5 year old son and I both started going to this conveniently located BJJ dojo and love it. Located on the Southeast corner of S. Parker Rd. & Orchard. A relatively new location (2014) but affiliated with the Castle Rock school under Humaita black belt Curtis Hill.

I have been train for about 5 years and this gym was very open and friendly to out of towners. Every one at the gym acted very polite and helpful. There was no attitude or seclusion, it was very inviting and excepting of new people. If your in Aurora, CO I recommend you stop in to roll.
