I started training with Philadelphia JiuJitsu this past summer and it has been a great experience so far. Damon is extremely knowledgeable with over 30 years experience and has a great passion for teaching. What is unique about Philadelphia JiuJitsu is that it is more than a jiujitsu school as it incorporates many different martial arts. There is judo, wrestling, aikido, knife and stick fighting, and practical self-defense techniques. So you can come to a class that focuses on what you are interested in. The price is fair, the instructors are knowledgeable and whole gym is welcoming so if you are looking into learning martial arts and self defense Philadelphia jiujitsu is worth a visit
If you are reading this, that means you are interested in hearing what others have to say about PJJ. Well, my question to you is, what are you looking for? If you are looking for a place with an instructor who knows how to instruct, has the correct balance of patience/pushing, and is almost impossible to beat (yet it can be done, I am convinced) due to his mastery of the craft... this is the place. If you are looking for a place where you can learn how to defend yourself either from those looking to harm you or to attack those who are looking to beat you... this is the place. If you are looking for not only Jui-Jitsu, but Judo, wrestling, striking, weapons fighting and a good joke or two... this is the place. If you are looking to get actual hands on training with respectable fellow students, and from the first time you come, you actually train and have rounds of wrestling and a crazy workout... this is the place. If you are not looking for the above, then I am sure you can find a great Zumba class at your local gym for a good sweat.
I have been wanting to get back into martial arts after a decade hiatus. I tried several other schools in the area but they didn’t speak to me. The students at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu are top notch. They are welcoming to beginners, train hard, and prioritize safety as well. Damon is a fountain of knowledge and puts blood sweat and tears into training his students and running his classes. He’s approachable, humble, and rolls with all the students. I’ve gained so much in the short few months I’ve been training here and I would highly recommend the school to anyone who wants to get into high quality and affordable training.
I’ve been training under Sensei Damon for a couple months now and I wish I started earlier! Everyone is welcoming and knowledgeable. I look forward to my future here and aim to become a fine student. I recommend calling Sensei Damon as he was quick to answer any questions and concerns I had.
I started training as a beginner at this dojo and the experience has been great. The coaches are very friendly, great teachers and very experienced. A great place to hone your muay thai, boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, judo and self defense.
I been coming to Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu for about 3 years and for the past 3 years it has been nothing but great and exciting! Damon and the other instructors know their stuff by heart and have a large range of knowledge of the sport alongside other types of mix martial arts that you learn a lot from various forms and styles. The school is very clean and organize with a large mat so their is plenty of space for everyone to drill moves and wrestle during class hours! Highly recommend!!
I’m going on my 4th month of training and I couldn’t be anymore pleased with my experience here. Coming in, everyone has been beyond welcoming and the small class sizes has helped me so much by allowing instructors to keep a close eye on everyone while training. Damon puts 200% of his effort into all of his students and pushes everyone to be better and reach their goals. I don’t think you can get this much value for your money at any other school.
I tried out different martial art schools around Philly and PJJ is a great choice for anyone whether they are a beginner or advanced. The school offers a lot of systems and the one that stands out for me is the Judo program. The Judo in PJJ is very technical and offers a balance of standup and groundwork. If you're around the Philly area give PJJ a try!
Great group of folks and great culture at PJJ. As soon as I started coming, they were very welcoming and helped me along the way to learn things the right way the first time. I look forward to continuing the journey at this gym.
My favorite school for MMA!
I have been with Philly jiujitsu for a few months now. It has been a fantastic journey so far. I am not particularly young compared to the other students in the class and so have some reservations with regards to flexibility and cardio. Nevertheless, the instructors as well as have been accommodating as I come to speed with them. There's fear of falling/injuries which I have while sparring/takedowns/throws and the students have been careful towards me. It's a safe school, focused on technique whether its judo, jiujitsu, kickboxing or stick fighting. I did not go to any other school in Philly before joining this place, and I don't regret it. In summary, an excellent all-round, intimate school for all fitness levels.
Since I started taking classes I've become more aware of my physical and mental health, also doing things I've always wanted to from the days of watching youtube videos and fight videos into actually practice moves and learning what works for you. Everyone I have met since joining have been supportive and helpful. All people eager to improve and get better. Contact Damon and check out PJJ!
My girlfriend and I started attending PJJ about 2 years ago hoping to improve our fitness levels and learn a martial art. We both came in with virtually zero knowledge of jiu-jitsu, but Damon and the other instructors did an excellent job helping us build up our skill sets from total beginner moves to more advanced techniques. On the grappling side, he incorporates jiu-jitsu with wrestling and traditional judo techniques, allowing a full and well-rounded experience in both standing and ground work. Muay Thai and MMA classes help with learning a full repertoire of strikes, clinches, and sweeps as well. I have also recently begun attending a stick-fighting class on Monday mornings, which has been tremendously fun! The gym space is quite large and always kept very clean. Overall, the instructors and other students made this place feel welcoming from day one, while still pushing me to always get better.
As a Main Line restoration contractor who had wrestled over twenty years ago but always wanted to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I totally recommend private one-on-one classes with Damon, especially if you, like me, work in a labor-intensive service profession in which you can’t afford to get hurt and just want to take it slow. It is difficult to explain but he has been teaching for so long that he can balance sparring intensity with safety that only comes with training hundreds and probably thousands of students over decades - and in my case, I never would have imagined that I would begin training in other forms of martial arts (all of which he excels at) such as street judo, submission wrestling, stick fighting, and striking, especially at my age. Damon makes this all seem easy, too, and he eased me into everything by initially working on my rusty base in wrestling, to get me reacquainted with the basic movements of grappling, tumbling, break falling, and even controlled breathing, before introducing his formal MMA curriculum. I can also say that it's obvious that Damon loves what he does. Although his gym - a converted church, really - is unassuming and austere in that classic South Philly Rocky sort of way, it is meticulously clean, and what it lacks in fancy amenities, it more than makes up for with its humble and committed instructor who lives like Jarmusch's Ghost Dog, a modern day ascetic samurai.
Philly jiu-jitsu .. where you will simply learn more and faster than anywhere else.
Personally, I like that the classes are small and Damon, the owner, teaches classes based off questions the students have which i feel makes the classes more welcoming and engaging.
I have nothing but the highest praise for the people here. Going to PJJ has been an incredibly positive influence on my life, and I can honestly say I think anybody who came in and checked it out would understand why it’s so special.
Private lessons with PJJ are outstanding! The level of focus and personal growth that is encouraged and required through training with Sensei Damon one on one holds a significant amount of respect and discipline. I have been training unarmed self defense as well as weapons defense with stick and knife for months and I feel I have already gained so much more confidence, knowledge and personal structure during my lessons at such an early stage of training. Having someone there to push and guide my training has done so much more than I had anticipated for myself. Straight forward and honest teaching with decades of experience has to be appreciated and it shows in training. I definitely encourage others to step forward and give it a go... And on top of martial arts, I have gained a fair amount of knowledge in other parts of life that I love such as gardening!! Well played PJJ!!! Definitely worth the experience and certainly will keep returning for more.
PJJ has impacted my life in an incredibly positive way. I can apply what I learn from Damon and Martin in nearly all aspects of life. The Dojo is clean, fun, accepting, and those who enter and train there become part of a family.
Before joining, the owner of the dojo, Damon Umholtz, encouraged me to check out other jiu jitsu dojos around and I did. None of them fit my needs. I wanted a non-pretentious place where I can study the art with people that have no ego, want you to learn, and are very friendly. I still study here and it is the highlight of my day when I go. Damon pushes you to succeed in many different ways and you are quick to catch the 'bug'. The dojo is great, with lots of mat space and the cleanest mats I've seen. I recommend anyone who is thinking of taking an interest in Jiu jitsu or judo to call Damon and check out pjj.
I don't have enough good things to say about PJJ. Looking to get back into martial arts for fitness and self-defense, I looked at a few schools in Philadelphia, and have no doubt that I picked the best. This is one of the most inexpensive and no-frills schools, because the emphasis here is on solid instruction. There's no long-term contract required, and the training space itself is unassuming. A previous review is correct--this is more of a club than a school: everyone is incredibly friendly, and you'll get to know your training partners (mostly young adults) well. Damon Umholtz, the head instructor, is fantastically gifted as both a martial artist and a teacher. He trains WITH his students, and tailors lessons to people's interests. He is always patient and has a knack for explaining even the most complicated techniques in understandable ways. The curriculum is primarily rooted in the parent art of jiu-jitsu: its modern and traditional forms, and its evolution into judo. Damon teaches with a street self-defense orientation and often draws on aikido and Filipino martial arts as well, which is a rare and valuable perspective. I mainly attended the Wednesday and Sunday gi classes, which generally lasted about two and a half hours: the first hour devoted to judo/submission grappling/self defense, the second to ground-based jiu-jitsu and a half hour of free wrestling/randori at the end. Tuesday/Thursday Muay Thai classes are low-key, fun and a GREAT workout. So, in short, if you are looking to get into the martial arts for sport, self-defense, fitness, and fun--you owe it to yourself to check out PJJ.
My boyfriend and I started at Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu 6 months ago. I had never done martial arts before, or really any sport, so I was very nervous about starting something for the first time. I must say I am very happy I chose this place. Damon and the other instructors are extremely knowledgable and encourage questions at every class, and no question is too simple or too ridiculous. I like how at the jiu jitsu classes, Damon will often base what we cover that day almost completely off the questions, so the students help decide what we learn. The other members are very welcoming and encouraging no matter what level of experience you have. If I struggle with a move, my partner for that day is more than happy to help me figure out the issues. Overall, this place is great. The instructors teach and guide you and don't sugar-coat things. The other students are helpful, competent, and don't have huge egos. It's challenging, but also rewarding.
PJJ is not your average MMA gym. All of the members and instructors are friendly and inclusive of all experience levels. Membership includes entry into all classes held sun-fri. The PJJ curriculum is a combination of judo, BJJ, Muay Thai, and self defense with some knife defense, stick fighting, and other misc martial skills sprinkled in. Damon(owner) in particular is a wealth of knowledge. He is seriously willing to put as much work as you are into customizing a training regemin, and making sure you learn and grow to your best potential. Come willing to learn and improve. Leave you're ego at the door, and you'll fit right in.
In short, I would definitely recommend this place. Best part is no contract to join. Main focus is Jiu-jitsu (gi and no gi) and Judo. Others are self-defense, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Each class is well balanced with conditioning, technique and sparring. Members are friendly and helpful. Safety is always a priority every class. Very nice dojo overall.
I've been training at Philadelphia Jiu-jitsu for almost two months. I don't have much experience before I came here. Instructors and training buddies are really kind and helpful. I learned A LOT from not only the instructors but also other classmates there. PJJ is a really cool place. Never be afraid to ask questions. And the most important thing is: get motivated
PJJ is not a gym its a club. The members are more like family than classmates and Damon, Gerry and all the instructors are a wealth of knowledge.
Best Gym I've found on either side of the country.
It has been 2 months now since I started attending Damon's MMA classes. In the begining, my focus was learning jiu jitsu but I am happy that I get to learn some self defense, judo and other martial arts like Muay Thai. Classes are made in an intuitive, collobarative environment, and each class ends with small wrestling sessions in which you get a chance to apply the techniques you learn in these classes, and the best thing is Damon really cares about your safety during those classes. So I am pretty sure he is not going to let you get yourself injured if you do not do something crazy. Also you don't speak the same language with him like myself, not a problem, he will start learning your language, I witnessed that he started learning some Turkish during those classes so that we can communicate in a better dialect :) Overall, he makes sure that he cares about you learn something from those classes and you are safe when you go out the streets.
Damon has a great place. Damon and the other instructors are very skilled and helpful. Probably 1/3 of class is spent standing, 1/3 is spent with grappling techniques, and the last 1/3 is usually randori. The environment is very safe and everyone there works to improve their skills without injuring each other.
If you’re thinking about getting involved in a self defense training program, make an appointment with Damon immediately. You'll be so glad you did. Believe me! The vibe is welcoming and super friendly. If this school was a bar, it would be “Cheers" for sure. (for you younger guys and girls who are not familiar with the TV show “Cheers”, look it up and watch it and you’ll know what I mean) But I digress. This is a great school. Damon and the other instructors are highly skilled, yet fun loving and humble. You work hard, and you sweat, and you also may have quite a few laughs along the way. The commitment to teaching from the instructors and the eagerness of a great group of fellow students who desire to learn, make for the kind of MMA school you’ll feel proud to be a part of. And this is coming from someone who isn’t even an MMA/UFC fan. My only connection to the sport of MMA is from listening to Joe Rogan yap about it for hours on his podcast. My main objective with training with Damon is true, raw self defense. As I stated, the classes and the people in it are great and you should be attending those for sure. I accompany those classes with some private lessons with Damon, even if it’s only once a month. For me, this is the bread and butter of my training. The personalized attention to detail for anything you want to focus on in your self defense journey during your private one on one sessions will take your comfort level with training to a higher level. Want to know knife defense? Done. How about knife offense? Done. How your belt can be one of your greatest weapons? Done. Want to take an entire hour going over a move you were confused about in a previous class? Done. Want to run countless “what if’s” by Damon to see what he would do in any of those circumstances? Done. Want the opportunity to toss around Damon for an hour? Done. Point is, the private lessons are an invaluable addition to your participaton in the regularly scheduled classes, and I can’t recommend it enough. Damon’s passion for self defense will inspire you to becoming a better version of yourself. Now, if you took the time to read this review, I’m confident I’ll see you on the mat soon. Peace and Love.
I have been attending jiu-jitsu classes at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu for roughly the past 5 months and it has been the healthiest and focused I have felt in my life. As a newcomer to martial arts, Damon's classes made me feel comfortable; smaller sizes allowed me to get clear/consistent feedback, while an overarching emphasis on safety allowed me to practice comfortably and without the fear of anyone running me over. Damon is a true teacher of martial arts. He knows what to say and how to say it in so that "practice" quickly turns into learning. Aside from this, the other experienced practitioners in his gym help beginners like myself learn constantly. Additionally, from a mental standpoint, training jiu-jitsu with Damon and his class has truly taught me how to remain calm in stressful day-to-day situations. Simply stated, PJJ has to be your first stop for any martial arts training in Philly.
i started going to PJJ about a month ago as a complete beginner. At first it was quite intimidating to start judo and Jiu-jitsu but after the first class the worries went away. Damon is an awesome teacher who's very chill and has a lot of patience with beginners. The best thing about PJJ is that classes are small (15 at most ), so you will have a lot of one on one attention and someone will correct you if you're wrong. Everyone who trains here are very nice and will take time to help you learn and grow as a beginner. There are no egos at the gym and everyone is basically family, i cant stress how important this is! especially for someone my size i don't want to have to worry about some psycho trying to take my head off during a spar. That kind of crap will never at PJJ since Damon puts safety first. The thing that sets PJJ apart from other MMA gym i've been to is the fact that there are no contracts or linking your bank account, crazy fees or that kind of BS. Prices are super affordable for all the class you're getting (judo , Jiu-jitsu , Muaythai , submission wrestling , and stick fighting) i highly recommend Philly jiu-jitsu if you are serious about starting MMA.
I have been training Mixed Martial Arts for 3 years and have visited and trained in many Academies. Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu is an amazing Mixed Martial Arts school located on Cherry Street in Philadelphia. I attended a class this past week and was extremely impressed with Damon and how he runs his academy. It is obvious that Damon loves teaching his students and has a great deal of knowledge. He is very conscious of making safety a priority and monitors all students through the entire class looking at students technique and assuring safety is given from both partners during drills. He pairs up students to make sure that the more advanced student is able to help a beginner. The school is very clean and the atmosphere is very friendly with student of all levels participating in the classes. I felt very welcomed as a new student and enjoyed the class very much. I will definitely be returning when I am in the area to train there. Thank you Damon and Philly Jiu Jitsu students for giving me such a great experience.
I've been training at Philly Jiu-Jitsu for several months now and it has been an all around awesome experience. When I was first looking for a place to train I was deterred by how many other gyms insist on locking you in with a contract, or focus too much on the commercial side of the gym instead of the educational side. It does not take very much time training with Sensei Umholtz to see where his focus lies. Every single class he not only teaches us several new moves, he also answers any questions we have and shows how all the positions and techniques blend together. This way, you aren't just learning discrete moves, but it feels like you are really truly learning the martial art as you see how everything connects and flows. The atmosphere is great, and its an excellent learning environment; I look forward to every single class because I know I will learn a lot and because I enjoy training with the other people there. The classes are very accommodating of beginners, but there are also advanced classes to challenge yourself more. I really cannot recommend Philly Jiu-Jitsu enough; if you want to learn, this is the place you should be.
I was very impressed with the variety of services that this school offers. Calling this a JiuJitsu school does not do it justice. This is the only school that I know to offer JiuJitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, and weapons training. The main focus seems to on practical self defense skills rather than simply winning tournaments. For me this is its greatest attribute.
I've recently starting training at Philly Jiu Jitsu and I can honestly say this place is the greatest. I've trained elsewhere before and never got the kind of personal attention I get at PJJ. Damon Umholtz is an incredible martial artist and instructor, giving tons of individual attention to each of his students. You'll learn Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and all kinds of other crazy things Damon knows. Most of the other schools don't teach judo and have you start your jiu jitsu on the ground and that seems pretty silly and unrealistic. At PJJ you always start your sparring standing up and incorporating both Judo and Jiu Jitsu. Just a wonderful place to train filled with many knowledgable people who are always willing to help. Oh, did I mention you don't have to sign long term contracts? Pretty much the only school I've ever heard of where you don't. So, wether you're and advanced fighter or you're looking to just get started, Philly Jiu Jitsu is the place to go.
I've been taking classes at Philly Jiu Jitsu since late February. I'd been wanting to take self-defense classes for some time, but couldn't find a place that was easily accessible. One day I came across several positive reviews about Philly Jiu Jitsu and its instructor, Damon Umholtz. I decided to try it out and it's been one of the best choices I've ever made! Damon is fantastic! He's very passionate about his craft! I'm very thankful for his patience and his willingness to answer questions. He really cares about his students and their progress! The other members are great too! I learn so much from my classmates!!! They consistently provide me with great feedback and pointers. As a female, I feel more empowered and knowledgable about how to defend myself. One of the coolest things about class is that you have the opportunity to spar with people of different sizes, strength, and speed. This was one of the most intimidating things I've ever had to do (still is), but it's made me stronger! The classes (Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Kick Boxing) are challenging. It takes committment, focus, dedication, time, practice, and patience in order to learn... It's completely worth it! Thanks Damon (and all the members of Philly Jiu Jitsu)!
When I was in Italy at summer school I met such a unique man like Damon Umholtz. I learned from him not only new moves used during a fight, but all Damon's words influenced on thinking. Classes were conducted in a relaxed atmosphere. When someone had problems then Damon immediately solved it showing correct positions or movement. Thanks to him I could forget about daily responsibilities. There is no way how to describe it all. I recommend this school. Five stars of course, check it out! Brakuje słów by opisać to wszystko. Polecam tą szkołę. Pięć gwiazdek, oczywiście. Sprawdź to!
Damon is one of the wisest, most friendly and the most aware instructors I've ever seen.
I like Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu and the way the classes are taught. The classes are small and have a longer time length than my last school. The classes are taught with a standing and ground part of the class. Joining the school was fairly easy, Great school would recommend it.
Review of Damon´s seminar on Summer school of combatives in Czech Reppublic. All trainings with Damon were great and it gave me a lot if inspiration and informations. Maybe there could be less techniques and more drills next time. Because there was so many of moves to remember. But Thanks to videos it is all ok. And some guys from summer school told me that they would like to do more basics. But I am happy about a level he teached us. Perfect was to see that Damon is really impressed and full of spirit and he really wanted to teach us, that was super, also his after-training sparrings and helping with techniques. Specially his visit in our gym in his free atime was great. So thanks a lot :). Byla to skvělá zkušenost a ohromně rád si ji kdekoli zapokuju,
Damon is THE MAN. Flat out, Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu is the best school around. I tried other places and those who taught were very knowledgeable individuals, but I can't say that they gave me the same learning experience that Damon has given me. When I tried other places my experience was learning a move or two and then rolling for a little while afterwards and that was it. So you would get taught how to do a rear naked choke, but then had no clue how to actually get yourself in position to pull it off. I went to Damon's class and it was a learning experience that is comparable to nothing else. Every class we are taught an abundance of information and we are able to get individual attention from Damon himself to make sure we are doing things correctly. Damon has opened my eyes in regards to how students should be taught. It is an absolute pleasure to be learning from this school. The environment and people are great. I would recommend any and everyone interested in Martial Arts to pay Damon a visit. You won't regret it!
From the night of my first class 8 months ago, to now, I have never stopped learning. That’s what impresses me about Damon’s teaching. He provides a learning environment that is conducive to a deeper understanding of martial arts. Like a true master, he breaks the moves down scientifically, so students become aware of what needs to be done within the progression of each situation. Essentially, he teaches his students how to ‘think’ rather than just react. Perhaps what makes him so effective in his teaching methods is the relaxed atmosphere of his dojo. He’s able to keep his students spirits light even while the lessons increase in intensity. It is a gift that I’ve found to be rare in other dojos that I’ve visited. Damon cares about his students and will provide individual attention, where he sees fit, to ensure that his students succeed. I would highly recommend Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu to anyone that wants to learn and become proficient in mixed martial arts.
One of a few teachers of MA who have the expertise but don't charge ridiculous sums of money. If you're looking for an open minded trainer with experience from multiple styles, Damon is there for you. Greetings from summer school in Italy.
Damon Umholtz, what a amazing guy. I meet him in Rimini Italy at the summer school. I was at his matrial arts lesson and it was so cool. I do pro wrestling, so for me to meet someone with so much experience in so many different fighting style was just so cool. Not only is he calm and relaxing to be around in the lessons. He gives every student time and keep things easy but at the same time, making some moves that´s good to know. I have never seen someone getting out of my jumping sleeperhold before, Damon, show´d me different ways to get out of it, i have never seen it before. I´m a guy from Norway, so for me to meet this great guy, was a good experience that i never gonna forget. Not only his he a great guy when he teach, but also without the lessons. You can tell him everything, he´s really a guy you can look up to, and i respect you so much Damon. Thanks for everything, and i really would love to come to philadelphia and see your place and learn more. Something on norwegian: Du er virkelig unik, har ikke møtt en trener som deg. Som kan så mange ulike kampsport teknikker, tar deg alltid tid til spørsmål og andre ting. Takk for alle samtaler, du har hjulpet meg på mange måter. And Damon, if you want to know what i said on the norwegian part, just look up my facebook status, and you will see it there. So to all people, if you want to learn some fighting/self defence, judo etc. Take contact with Damon and you will be in the best hands you can! Looking forward for a long friendship, and i really hope that i soon can come visit your school and see more of what you have in order.
I met Damon during an international meeting of Sports Science students in Rimini, during the Summer School 2010 and again in 2011. Since then we have meet every year in Bologna. In those years I also took part in his lessons of MMA and self-defence and that was a great experience. I am sure Damon is an excellent instructor and much more he is a good friend, great quality of teaching allows him to transmit peaceful feeling despite the field of his teaching.
I started studying under Damon in 2006, and I highly recommend him to everyone. He is great at integrating students of all skill levels into an environment where everyone learns. An environment were the students are competetive and supportive and push each other, all at the same time.
My experience at PJJ has been transformative. I joined PJJ in 2012 without any prior MMA experience and trained with the beginner/intermediate students for about 4 months. Although I've always ran out of breath at the end of each session (not to mention always getting tapped out), I noticed that I've been improving my strength both physically and mentally. The acquired mental strength was an amazing experience. I particularly enjoyed Damon Sensei's view on life - he taught me that great martial artists are also great philosophers. I've relocated to Hong Kong and I'm continuing my journey in the martial arts, currently in the form of Muay Thai. PJJ is welcoming and has no bull crap - If you put in the hard work and would like to challenge yourself physically and mentally, you will get a lot out of it. I strongly encourage anyone who's thinking about trying out MMA to give Damon sensei a call. He's a true warrior with a kind soul and will definitely answer any of your questions/concerns. Good luck.
I met Damon a little more than a year ago at a BJJ/Judo clinic in the Pittsburgh area. Even with my 25-plus years of experience on the mat, this clinic opened up my eyes to a new sport (BJJ). This clinic reignited my passion for Judo and my new sport "BJJ". The two sports combined can make one truly unstoppable on the mat. I definitely admire Damon for his passion, skill level, and his desire to be the best that he can be, not only on the mat, but in life!
I came to Philly JIU-JITSU in 2007 without any martial arts or wrestling experience. I was incredibly Intimidated, but Damon Umholtz, the owner, worked individually with me until I felt confident to join the group classes! During the past six years i have grown tremendously. Damon has taught me about all facets of martial arts, as well as become a close personal friend and mentor.
I began training Jiu Jitsu with Damon in 1995 (unless the memory is gone as well...), back in the early days of his school. I was at the time, and still, a musician, and met him in that capacity first. He was a dedicated musician, and a good and honest man. Training with him showed me much more - I trained in Tae Kwon Do for 8 years in adolescence, and acquired a black belt at age 14. One thing that I knew I learned from that experience was that much of the chaff was allowed to slip through the sieve. With Damon, every moment in the Dojo was one centered around positive relationships. Those positive relationships mean trust. They mean honesty, both with yourself and others. They mean helping your brothers and sisters on the mat, regardless of their ability, and trusting in others to help you. Since studying with Damon, I have since moved about in the country and trained at a few different schools. There is no doubt that my experience with Philly Jiu Jitsu remain a core of my Jiu Jitsu, a fact of which I am proud. And from the looks of the rest of these reviews, I know I am not the only one. Congratulations, my friend, on your success. The words of your students speak volumes.
Damon and I have been friends since 1993 and in that time I've trained with him in several forms of martial discipline. In addition to being an outstanding fighter/trainer, Damon is also a living resource of martial art history who encompasses not only the modern sport applications of fighting but also the nuts and bolts of the traditional styles that modern martial arts evolved out of. I can't think of any other dojo in Philadelphia that covers so much material to that effect.
Philly Jiu Jitsu is a great place to learn good old-fashioned, no-nonsense self-defense and mixed martial arts in a fun, safe place. Damon's instruction is top-notch - the guy is the definition of a warrior-poet, a thinking man's fighter. He doesn't just tell you what to do - he tells you why you do it, how each maneuver affects a combination as a whole, and how to get yourself into a "thinking 5 steps ahead" mindset so that you don't just freeze up and wonder what to do next after finally get that sweep you've been working on. It's not just theory and small talk, though - when you get into the gym, you're committing to 90 minutes of non-stop drills, for both your mind and your body. Stick with this place for three months, even if you only go twice a week, and you will come out in some of the best shape you've ever been in. The other great thing about this place is that everyone who sticks around is there because they love being there - it might take you a little time to get to know everyone, but again, if you show some commitment, you'll have everyone's attention and support in every aspect of your training.
I trained there from 1999 to about 2005. The quality of instruction is high and notable for the breadth of the program. In contrast to a typical jiu jitsu school or even a MMA gym which may teach both BJJ and Muay Thai, the Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu program is far broader. Judo and Wrestling stand up skills are emphasized. High quality Judo and Wrestling instructors are brought in on a regular basis for seminars. Muay Thai and boxing are part of the program as well. Weapons, including stick and knife are taught as well. In addition to a jiu-jitsu curriculum. Students from the school regularly compete and are successful in grappling tournaments. Some students fight in MMA as well. In name, it's a jiu jitsu school. But as you might expect based on the program, students acquire well rounded skills: striking, clinch / takedowns, ground control and submission, and the usage of weapons.
I trained under Damon's instruction at PJJ for over three years while living in the Philadelphia area. He provided first-class instruction in jiu jitsu, mixed martial arts, and general self-defense in a comfortable atmosphere where everyone was made to feel welcome, regardless of skill or ability. I highly recommend Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu as an affordable, comfortable, and high-quality school to anyone interested in improving physical fitness and self-defense skills.
It was very nice and informative to participate, for the second consecutive year, to the stage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu held in our area by Damon Uhlmotz of Philadelphia Ju Jitsu. In 2011, the stage was held at the Budokan Institute of Bologna and was reserved exclusively for the teaching staff of the Bologna Dojo. In the summer of 2012, due to the earthquake that hit the Emilia Romagna region, the stage was held in Castenaso and was attended by many martial art teachers and athletes from across the region. The stages showed the mastery and a deep knowledge of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu by the teacher that was visiting Italy and Europe in his teaching tour. It was very nice the progression of teaching in which the teacher and friend Damon was involving all the participants. Very good the technical cues provided to the participants, useful to strengthen their basic knowledge and to open up new teaching horizons.
I have known Damon Umholtz for over 20 years now and have seen his Dojo, "Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu" grow from a great local Philly Mixed Martial Arts School (actually the first MMA school in Philly) into an International Martial Arts family! He truly is a great MMA instructor who's passion and kindness continues to this day to amaze me. Few people actually know that he was once even awarded a commendation from the Mayor and Police Chief of Philadelphia for going above and beyond the call of duty and stopping a handful of crimes including saving a woman from being strangled and raped. This type of civic duty to the community he has instilled in his teaching, and he often says he would rather our fighting ability go to saving or helping someone then for the glory of the ring. As well, his school has never closed in over 23 years for anything at ALL including ALL holidays! This is real commitment to the Arts and I am proud to work with him and call him a friend. Don't be fooled by people claiming to teach Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu or say they were the first MMA school in Philly. Damon Umholtz has most likely taught them at some point and he is the original and real source. I highly recommend his school "Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu" or "Philly Jiu-Jitsu" to everyone.
I met Damon During the Summer of 2011 in Rimini Italy, where he was teaching MMA. What can I say ? He is a professional.
If you're looking for the heart and soul of the Philadelphian martial-arts experience, look no further than Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu (PJJ). Located in a city renowned for its martial prowess and history of famous fighters; PJJ is honorably waving the "old school" flag because it was at the forefront of the city's new wave of BJJ and MMA culture. The founder, Damon Umholtz is a highly skilled, highly trained, super cool and very creative instructor. He specializes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA, but like a true martial artist is willing and regularly cross trains in anything practical. His experience is a testament to his dedication and it's great to learn from someone like him. Come to PJJ, train and educate your mind and body, no matter what level you're at and see the results for yourself.
If you are like me, you may be a bit hesitant about starting a mixed martial arts program for fear of immersing yourself in a world of skintight affliction shirted douchebaggery. Well, fear no more. Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu is a school for everyone, from beginner to expert. Ive been training under Damon for over three years, and enjoyed every moment of it. No hidden fees, no contracts, and best of all, a school where you can be yourself while learning from one of the best. I urge anyone who is on the fence about beginning training to check out a beginners class, you wont be disappointed. Great instructor, great friends (even if they are trying to submit you daily) and a great instructor. What more can you ask for? Oh, and it will help you get less fat. See you on the mat!
As an active duty law enforcement officer of 23 years, I have always wanted to train in MMA. Upon researching different gyms in the area, I found Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu to be the best fit due to old school environment, small class size and easy instructor access. During training you feel like you are training with friends that are trying to help you learn techniques that are being taught that day. You walk in a immediately feel welcome, and I have never felt intimidated by the more experienced students. This is a great place for you if you are looking real world/street fighting tactics. The kind of training that I would use during real street encounters is perfect for my profession. My instructor, Damon Umholtz, has taught me invaluable techniques that I will use regularly.
I trained with Damon for 2 years while attending school in Philadelphia. I was a total beginner then and had no prior experience with MMA / Jiu Jitsu. He was also teaching amateur and professional fighters at his school. Damon is a great teacher and he got me completely hooked to martial arts. He gives you personal attention and makes it a point to spar with every single person in the academy, including white belts. His curriculum is also unique. Too many other schools today have students start sparring on their knees and totally ignore the stand-up aspect of the fight game. You will not see this at Damon's school. His students are taught a comprehensive blend of stand-up grappling (Judo, Wrestling etc.) in addition to ground fighting and striking. Damon will ensure you come out of his school with a well-rounded skill set. I strongly recommend him to anyone looking to get into martial arts in the
When I was training under Damon umholtz he was a true friend and always all about the student! He was also willing to help outside of class, after class, before class or you can even call him about a question. The answers you would recieve from him were more than you expected. He would give me advice on Judo, different tips and tricks and books to check out to learn more. I told him I have to be somewhere right after class and he offered up his shower to me after class so I can clean myself. He is friendly while remaining a disciplined work environment. Martial arts is his life, he loves sharing it with the world and it shows.
Damon rocks!!! As a professional and a person, he is extremely passionate and dedicated person.
I started training at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu around 4 months ago. Damon is an extremely technical and experienced martial artist, who is an extremely competent teacher. Most mixed martial arts schools focus on Muay Thai & Jiu-Jitsu, although these are part of the core curriculum at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu, you will also have arts such as Judo & wrestling as part of the curriculum. The Judo is not just lightly touched upon, but a very extensive part of the curriculum, and includes hybrid throws and such to improve your MMA and Jiu-Jitsu games. This is not just a competition school. It includes practical applications for street fighting and weapons (stick fighting, knife fighting) as well. Rounding out the curriculum to include striking, grappling, and weapons to address all 3 aspects of what Mixed-Martial Arts truly is. My experience has been great thus far. I came in with a wrestling background, and Damon has helped build off the strengths of that while addressing and building up my weak points. There is a great balance of drilling and teaching with sparring and grappling. I would highly recommend Philly Jiu-Jitsu to anyone interested in Mixed Martial Arts whether they are entering with or without experience.
I started training at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu five years ago. It ended up being one of the best decisions of my life. I had tried other martial arts in the past, but felt unsatisfied with the results of my efforts. When I showed up at PJJ, I quickly learned that it is the real thing. I showed up as an absolute beginner but I learned skills applicable to self-defense and competition. The size of the school allowed for plenty of individual attention to my progress and my instructors and training partners have become great friends. Martial arts often promise to develop confidence. After my many many hours on the mats at PJJ, I've learned a confidence I'd never known before. As a grappler I develped a whole new relationship with my body. I'm healthier and in better shape in my 30's than I was in my 20's. I'm so glad I decided to train with Damon and the martial arts community at PJJ.
Where to start..So much to say..But what is the most important - Damon is a GREAT FRIEND AND INSTRUCTOR!!:) I met him during the summer (2011) in Italy. I went for a camp Edusport, where he was teaching MMA. And here I go..first practice of martial arts in my life..I had my doubts which disappeared very quickly thanks to Damon. He is a great teacher, very talented, skilled, who puts his heart into work. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or not. Damon finds time to work with everyone. He is full of passion for his work, life and goals. He cares about his students and wants to give them a lot of knowledge. I learned a lot. Not only about MMA but also about me as a person and athlete. I am very lucky that I met him. I can't visit him often but we stay in touch. I know that I can talk with him about everything. When I have problems I can always count on him. He is true friend. Too sad, that I don't live in USA. I can't practice with him but I truly recommend his school. Great man with many years of experience!! Damon U re the BEST!:)
My first time visiting Philly jiu jitsu was my first experience with mma and jiu jitsu. I took a seat by heavy bag and want watched Damon instruct class. A week later I enrolled in classes. I appreciate the attention to details when Damon is demonstrating and teaching techniques. As a beginner, it can be overwhelming trying to retain everything...but Damon, or a more experienced student would be there to give verbal cues or further demonstrate while working through the technique. There is a certain attentiveness to the new students that makes a rookie feel secure that someone is there to help/someone is watching. Damon also provides insight into principles, reasoning, history, and appropriate decision making of a martial artist. Always with analogies, stories, and thought provoking quotes...I feel enlightened after a conversation with Damon On the wall of the dojo there is a photo of Martin Luther King and a photo of Ghandi. I think this symbolizes the notion of martial arts also as a tool to promote fairness and progression of humanity. Damon once said "we represent a tradition of people that gather to work on something" Damon is a teacher that promotes teamwork, comradery, understanding, and fluidity. To always be seeking alternative ways to gain the advantage and overcome challenging obstacles in life and on the mat
Damon has a true martial arts passions, it's a deep studious and mixed curiously the different styles. I think that its courses are very interesting.
I had the pleasure of training at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu for just about a year while at graduate school. I have trained with many jiu-jitsu and judo black belts over the past 12 years who are world-class, and many who are not (me included!). Damon certainly belongs to the world-class group. Damon is kind, dedicated, and skilled. He is a gifted teacher and mentor. I learned a lot not only about jiu-jitsu and judo in my time with him, but also about myself as a person and athlete. I value my discussions with him as much as my workouts. The people who train at his school are also helpful, kind, and humble. When I came to Philadelphia, I knew no one, but the people at PJJ treated me as if I had known them forever. I have fond memories of my time at PJJ, and cannot recommend it enough.
I did Jiu Jitsu with Damon for about a year back in 2004. Damon was a great teacher, and always got me excited about training. At the time his classes were very small, which was nice because it allowed him to tailor his classes to student's interests.
Philly Jujitsu is a highly technical and practically tested style. Based around Sensei Damon Umholtz's overwhelming knowledge of the grappling arts, it takes from wrestling, jujitsu and elements of various Chinese and Japanese arts to create a style that puts you on another level. This highly effective style has been the basis for many of the MMA fighters of in the Philly area, yet it relies on skill and not brute force. Class sizes are small, the attention is personal, there are no contracts, and there is even a Muy Thai based kick boxing class once a week! It is routine for a two members to have more than a 50 lb weight difference, but a round of sparring or grappling is decided by experience and skill. All skill levels welcome, $100/month, FREE BEGINNERS CLASS ON SUNDAY
What I liked most about Phila Jiu-Jitsu was that there was both men & women training. Everyone had different skill levels which made me feel comfortable being new to Jiu-Jitsu. Sensei Damon Umholtz made me feel welcome and trains in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. He focuses not only on the technical aspects but also the spiritual aspects of Martial Arts, which i enjoyed. They offer flexible group lessons and it's so convenient right in Center City!
Philly Jiu-Jitsu is where I discover the real meaning of martial arts. I had already practice for many years Muay Thai and, Kick Boxing and Karate but when I met Damon (the Sensei), its great passion and its great capacity to teach it was like I had discover martial art all over again. Martial Arts are really a form of art, and Philly Jiu-Jitsu it is really the place to learn it from a real artist! Trust me!Now Damon and I are good friends. I moved back to Italy since few years but I am inviting him every years to run the Martial Art classes at a two weeks intensive programme on Sport Science that I am running for the University where I work. Every years the students are telling me how good of a teacher and an inspirer Damon still is!
I started my martial arts training with Damon Umholtz and never looked back. I have trained and competed all over the US for 20 years and never backed down from a challenge all because of the training and support from Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu. No up front fees, registration fees or belt test fees. Reasonable rates and complete acess to Damons enthusiastic and expansive knowledge and experience of Martial Arts. All good things through Jiu Jitsu.
This is not a part time job for Damon. This is his life. He takes everything seriously, but still teaches with fun. I wish I still lived closer and could take more classes (I am not longer in Philly). I took his self-defense class through a college, but loved it so much I ended up going to his dojo for a while. He treated everyone with the same respect, care and patience whether it was a woman who just wanted to learn a few moves to ward off an attacker or a young guy who wanted to get into martial arts competitions. I highly recommend Damon and Philly Jiu-Jitsu. Damon knows his stuff and keeps up his studies and training at home and abroad. Get off your butts and train! HB
I've trained at several excellent jiu-jitsu schools since coming to Philadelphia in 1998, and, while I have also received fine instruction at other jiu-jitsu gyms in this city, Damon Umholtz's school has been my favorite, by far. There's a great sense of camaraderie at this school, and every time I go to train there, I can feel my mood instantly improve, and my stresses and worries fade. Damon's school offers a great combination of knowledgeable and thorough instruction, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and affordability (including, importantly for me, no contracts). Damon himself has a wealth of knowledge and experience in jiu-jitsu and judo, and in martial arts generally. In particular, as a "little guy," I especially appreciate how he can use his experience to develop tweaks in techniques for stand-up fighting, standing grappling, and groundwork, in order to make them work more effectively for people of different body types. For me, Damon's drive to seek out and test new techniques--in jiu-jitsu, judo, and other martial arts--indicates spirit of openness that I consider to be the mark of a true martial artist. I highly recommend Philadelphia Jiu-jitsu for jiu-jitsu players, judoka, or other martial artists, of any skill level.
I've known Damon for over 4 years now, he's a great jiu jit su instructor. Damon is very patient and willing to give personal one-on-one instruction during his classes. He has a no hassle policy which helps taking his classes even easier.
PJJ is positively a family style School.. Damon, is Great at Building confidence, in your Game and your practice habits. i came out with a lot more, than i put in in terms of Physical self Awareness, and understanding of what works and what Doesn't. I have recommended, Umholtz System for years! if your new to MMA or advanced, its a great place to find people who simply Love Jiu Jitsu, and no Hassle..Worth The Buck and the Time!
Damon is a first rate Sensei in Judo, Jiu Jitsu and armed combat. Aside from that he holds on to traditions of the art lost in many gyms. I am looking forward to my next trip to Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu.
I was there when Damon Umholtz First had the drive to form his own school. He had been studying at another acclaimed local jiujitsu school. He wanted to create a community based mixed martial arts school. Focused on the arts, fitness and a positive environment of friends and teachers. not so much on flashy awards and competition. He did it. Started real grass roots small space at 2nd and chestnut to an awesome well equipped facility in the heart of central Philadelphia. Damon's drive and devotion has spawned a great environment for his students. young and old, experienced and novice first timers, all come away from this school having learned and a healthy attitude. Naturally over the years Philadelphia jiujitsu has gained competition awards and recognition. It's a new martial arts experienced based in tradition, knowledge, discipline and fun. oh! and Damon can play the hell out of the guitar, bass...write songs...cook.. raise a great dog...
If you are looking to learn jiu jitsu or continue your training, this is the place to go. No bs or gimmicks, just an incredibly dedicated instructor and a space in which to learn. There is a good deal of high quality judo going on here as well. Pick Damon's brain and practice takedowns and throws- you will be well ahead of most competitors if you have a solid base in judo. I don't know any other school I've trained in where you get as much time learning from the owner/head instructor as you do here. And not making you sign a contract is huge, it's no pressure, and that's why people stay. Not because of contractual obligation but to get the best instruction. This is also one of the few gyms with a true community feel to it. Members get together frequently to grab a bite to eat or a drink. Damon will come if you promise him fish head stew.
Damon is a real martial artist, humble and with no pretenses. He is a fountain of information. He treats all of his students with kindness and integrity, whether they are trained fighters or individuals who want to get in shape and learn about martial arts. Philly Jiu Jitsu is the original in Philadelphia, and one of my favorite places to visit.
I met Sensei Damon last year in San Marino Dojo, where I teach. The lesson of BJJ was fantastic!!!! Showed us several ne-waza Hairi kata, simples and effectives, he has dedicated time to particular that the judokas often do not give due importance.A great teacher and a great friend.
I know Damon from Rimini, Italy during Edusport in 2011 too. We had an amazing two weeks with seminars and practical classes.Damon was teaching MMA indoor and outdoor.I had met martial arts before during my studies and to be honest I wasn’t the fan of it.But Damon showed us interesting movement and self defense techniques then my opinion totally changed :) .I still practise in the gym what I learnt from him.He is a really great guy in life and an exemplar in sport. If you have chance to train with him don’t miss it you can learn from the best!!!!
Hello to everyone....first time i met Damon was during the Summer school 2011 in Rimini. I took part of his MMA and Self-defence course during that period. He was an excellent instructor, very proud to be one of his students. He did also two weeks-seminars in Switzerland and it was awesome. Great man, great quality of teaching, great experience, umanity and a great background of martial arts. And a great friend...!!!!!!
Damon was instrumental for my rebirth in the martial arts. Specifically the way he mixes up Judo and Jiu Jitsu is superb. He made me understand that if you want to improve your Judo you got to improve your Jiu Jitsu too. The too arts should always be taught together like he does. I look forward to be attending his next seminar in Italy or to visit him at his Dojo during my traveling.
Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu is perfect for students of every level, from absolute beginner to world class athletes. The instructor, Damon Umholtz, is an experienced, engaging, and thought provoking instructor. The warm-ups will challenge your mental toughness, the teaching will sharpen your technique, and the atmosphere will inspire you to work harder, longer, and smarter than you ever thought you could. The appeal of this gym is not only just the instructor, when you sign up at Philly Jiu-Jitsu, you are becoming a part of a team of driven MMA practitioners, and a voluminous amount of knowledgeable upper ranks, who will give you every resource necessary to accomplish your goals of incredible fitness and self awareness. Warning: Damon Umholtz is the real deal, no easy belt promotions, no whining, and certainly no excuses.
My brother and sister both went to college in Philadelphia, and when I visited, I preferred to train at Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu for the great vibe and excellent instruction. Damon (the instructor) sets a great example as a true, functional martial artist. His dojo is clean, comfortable, and coducive to an amazing learning experience. Whenever I've visited, I've taken his grappling classes and brought a lot of knowledge home in the gi and no-gi environments. Whenever I visit Philadelphia, I always make sure to stop by Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu, as it's my home away from home.
Damon Umholtz is a great instructor. The facilities are excellent just what i was looking for in a school. His knowledge of the Martial Arts is extraordinary apparently he has been training for several years now in Europe and across the world this adds to his ability to communicate the material in a way that is easy to learn and fun! The classes are very challenging and making for a great experience. Its clear to me that I made the right decision by finding Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu and Damon Umholtz.
I partecipate at a seminar of Damon in the Repubblic of San Marino, I am a Judoka and it was a great experience and an occasion to improve my techniques. Damon is a great Sensei with a great passion and spirit! Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu is the best!
Damon Umholtz is the real deal. I have never met an instructor who was as much a student of martial arts as a teacher. Damon has invested many, many years in learning the most effective techniques from some of the best practitioners in the world. It is no wonder his teaching is in demand in Europe and in the U.S. It's crazy how lucky we are to have Damon and Philadephia Jiu Jitsu right in our own back yard. Plain and simple, if you want to learn REAL martial arts that effectively work in real life situations, Damon and Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu are the best kept secrets in Philadelphia. I've been to many places, but another thing I've found great is the camaraderie. It's just a great bunch of guys to train with. It's a great time while learning from one of the best.
Damon is one of the most down to earth, non-intimidating martial arts experts I've ever known. A phenomenal school, where traditional martial arts and the best MMA and jiu jitsu techniques are taught. Definitely recommend Philly Jiu Jitsu to anybody interested in learning effective fighting techniques without all the 'monster energy drink' vibe of other MMA gyms. Probably the best part of training here is that you will be part of Damon's extended family. Awesome dude, great place.
I had the oportunity (in Italy) to met the best teacher of marcial arts that I ever know. This academy is the best place in Philadelphia to practice this sport.
I met Damon in Italy while i spend two awesome week in a Summer School program. At the time I dont know what is Jiu Jitsu exactly, but after his one hour Jiu Jitsu lesson, i know i love these techniques and i want to know everything about them, with these techniques I have a chance to avoid the bullying in the streets. Once my cousine who is a Soilder asked a question: -What do you do in a bar if somebody try to hurt you? I said: -I'm not a hero, i will run as quick as i can. But he replied: - Yeah it's a good idea... ...and your girlfriend? After that i know if you have a chance to learn martial arts you have to seize the opportunity. And if you think the same as me than you never had a better trainer than Damon, you should visit the Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu and start to work on your new self-confident life.
I have had the pleasure to train with PJJ a few times, not being a local to Philly I will not be able to train there on a regular basis but I will say that myself and people from all over the world look forward to training with Damon, Having trained at many schools and with hundreds of people I can tell you this school has everything you could ever want, the instruction is world class and anyone who is able to train there on a regular basis is very lucky
I had the honor to attend a few of Damon's seminars. They were excellent!! Damon has a great knowledge base in jiujitsu, judo and other types of martial arts. He has a excellent teaching style and is patient with students new to the martial arts. There is always a positive attitude and will take time on or off the mat to answer questions and point you in the right direction. If you are looking to train in the martial arts, I would highly recommend Philadelphia Jiujitsu! You will not be disappointed.
Posted 13 years agoIn a hot june of last summer I met Damon! Luckily! Thanks to him I learned many new things and I understood the importance of some that we take for garanted.. training with him was great, it was perfect for the climate that was created.. he could be serious and at the same time making us laugh!! It would be great to have him as a teacher every day.. :-D Now I conclude with one of his pearls of wisdom: "relax and steady"
