TL:WR: if ur looking for the sauce, it’s here. These dudes (Shane and Colin) know their stuff— they’re dedicated to making your jiu jitsu experience rich in technique, community, and growth. New to the sport? They’ll make sure you feel welcome and safe. Seasoned and already in possession of a senior belt, but looking for a new place to train? They have plenty of high-level players, in all shapes, sizes, and weight classes. Not new but out of practice? They’ve got a place for you, too— they’ll make sure you walk away from every single class having learned SOMETHING, no matter how small a detail it may seem to be. They’re very accommodating and dedicated to making an excellent learning environment for the sport. There is no weird air of hostility or tension, and while the atmosphere is one of hard work, it’s never one of malicious competition. Check them out! They keep jiu jitsu fun and functional.

There's a few things that distinguish a great jiu jitsu gym from any other, and Otherworld has all of them. The culture and training environment are the right mix of competitive and collaborative - managing to provide real challenge while keeping you safe. Shane and Colin offer thoughtful, technical, and detailed instruction that can be integrated into your skillset seamlessly. Their passion for the sport is evident in their work. And they spared no expense in getting very high quality mats - I absolutely love the mats at this gym. It's a welcoming environment for beginners while still offering great rolls for experienced grapplers.

Great training from anyone who’s a beginner or advanced! I’ve been training under Shane and Colin for years. Super friendly environment and great vibes! Very welcoming to anyone who walks through the door. The instruction and techniques taught cater to all levels of BJJ! I always feel comfortable knowing I’m going to learn something new and exciting! If you’re new to BJJ or advanced you definitely have to stop in and get some training. I highly recommend OtherWorld BJJ!

Great school!! Dropped in for their open mat while visiting the area and definitely got some good work in. Was surprised at how many people were there on a Sunday. The professors, Collin and Shane, as well as the other black belts and students were all very welcoming and have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport. I’d definitely come back for some instruction and more rounds. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a school to start/continue your JJ journey or if you’re just visiting the area like I was.

I stopped by Other World Jiu-Jitsu in Lawrence for an open drilling class and was impressed with what a great environment they have. The instruction and flow of the session were phenomenal, clear, focused, and packed with a lot useful details. Both instructors Colin and Shane clearly know what they’re doing. Whether you’re just dropping in or looking for a new gym to call home, this spot is definitely worth checking out. I definitely will be stopping by again when I’m in the area.
