I can’t say enough good things about OGA. My 7-year-old has been training there for a little over a year and half. My almost 5-year-old has been in their younger kids’ class on and off for a few months and is starting to get more interested. Eddie, Hannah, and Courtney are amazing instructors – humble and kind while also being masterful teachers that cultivate an environment that promotes hard work and teamwork. The gym has an incredibly inviting and positive atmosphere. I have no personal experience with jiu jitsu, but having watched my kids in many, many sessions, I recommend it to parents who are looking for: high energy activities (the class is hard and physically demanding, but the kids rise to the challenge), complex challenges (the kids learn complicated, highly technical moves - but the coaches are able to break it down for the kids), confidence building activities (the coaches celebrate every kid’s success, every class. The kids feel seen and valued) and grit (again, the class is hard, but the coaches motivate and inspire these kids). Both my kids adore the coaches and are growing stronger – both physically and mentally – from these classes. Also, when we first started there – I found they were not pushy at all about getting us to sign up. They give free classes for you to come see if your kid is a good fit – which is awesome. If you are on the fence, I recommend coming in to try it out.
Was traveling for work and dropped in for the NoGi class at Oregon Grappling Arts. Eddie and Hannah were very welcoming from the start. Everyone I trained and rolled with were great and I learned a new to me technique. If you’re local and looking to train jiu-jitsu, this is your spot!!
Our son (4 yrs) started class a few months ago and we’ve been so impressed by the patience, kindness, and respect that he learns each week. To see both his physical growth as well as his confidence grow is a gift and we are so grateful for the community and coaches.
My daughters recently started learning Jiu Jitsu at OGA and they really enjoy the fun challenge of the art. The gym is very spacious and clean perfect for wrestling and rolling around. Coach Eddie, Hannah and Courtney are the best instructors and basically magicians at tailoring moves for any level and pairing up the appropriate partner in wrestling rounds. There is lots of feedback given to the kids on refining moves in a safe manner. At the end of the class kids are acknowledged for what they did great and what coaches appreciated seeing done on the mat. I feel the coaches genuinely care for the development of the student and ample attention is paid to each one. Highly recommended Jiu Jitsu instruction for kids and youth.
My son wanted to learn martial arts but didn’t want anybody to punch him in the face. This led us on a quest to find a grappling gym, which we found here. There are a lot of weird people in the world teaching jiu jitsu, but not here. Eddie and Hannah are amazing. Their gym has a culture of respect, patience, pride, and support. The kids cheer each other’s successes as their own, the attention to safety is top-notch, and my son’s has never left a class without a smile on his face.
We started going to Oregon Grappling Arts when they started their 3-4 year old program. Hannah and Eddie are fabulous instructors and their passion really comes through their teaching. They keep the the attention and focus of over ten young students each class while keeping it fun and engaging. Hannah is so patient and kind, especially when our daughter was nervous at the beginning. Now, Ju Jitsu is something she looks forward to every week. We are looking forward to her joining the next age group and practicing on a more frequent basis. We highly recommend Oregon Grappling Arts. Such a wonderful community with high amounts of knowledge and experience
My 10-year-old has been training with Hannah and Eddie on and off since he was five years old, and we’ve had the privilege of following them from their original school, to their very own school, and now to their incredible new space. We feel truly fortunate to have them as our son’s instructors and to be part of the community. Hannah, Eddie, and coach Courtney are welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, while also maintaining high standards for behavior. When our son first started, he was particularly feral, but their guidance has helped him become much more focused and eager to learn. We couldn’t ask for better role models or a better environment for him to learn.
Awesome gym with great instructors! I dropped in for Hanna's women's nogi class and felt so welcomed and oriented right away. Been meaning to make it back for another!
My 10 and 8 yo have been so lucky to have Eddie and Hannah as their BJJ instructors for the last 3 years. Eddie and Hannah’s dedication to their students is unparalleled and both truly love teaching. And they are amazing at it. In his first competition a month ago, my 8 yo took first place among a field of 20 kids. And Hannah, Eddie and Courtney made the trip to Salem to help coach and encourage him and the other OGA students. That’s dedication. The kids classes are run with a combination of fun and discipline. Great space for kids to learn jujitsu and gain self confidence! 5 stars without a doubt!
Great coaches, people, and jiu jitsu! Incredible high level instruction. Huge women's team. Highly recommend to anyone from beginner to advanced level!
I really love the vibes at this gym, and the coaches are not only skilled but so friendly and approachable. I also feel like there are a good ratio of women to men at every class, which is something that is really hard to find in the BJJ community.
Amazing environment and group of people with excellent instruction to match!
I’m new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I was very nervous. Thankfully the coaches Eddie and Hannah were not only incredibly knowledgeable they were also kind and welcoming. The other students as well. You can tell they teach that kind of empathy and openness to everyone involved. There was no pressure to continue if I was too tired to continue. I’ll be back for sure. Thanks guys!
Came here to drop in on the women’s Sunday nogi class during my Portland trip and had a great experience! The staff were super welcoming and Hannah (the class instructor) even introduced me to everyone at the beginning of class and came around to me and my partner during drilling to make sure I had the proper technique. All the women were friendly and fun to roll with and were attentive and considerate to checking in about boundaries (any healing injuries I previously had or what intensity levels I wanted) during sparring. Post-roll banter was also great. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town!
Was in the area and dropped in at the women’s only class. This gym is SO welcoming, and the instructor, Hannah, was great. I first met her at a nogi summit and specifically dropped by because she was so attentive and approachable during her lesson! I’m glad I got to learn from her again and meet the team they’re building here. They also have a shower on site 🙌. I hope i can visit again! Thank you
Hannnah and Eddie are absolutely incredible instructors. They were so welcoming and supportive. I am a new student to there school and everyone was super nice which is rare when your a new student at a school. Furthermore, there classes were very helpful. We drilled, did positional sparring and then open rolls. Advance and beginner classes were happening at the same time so if your new your lessons will be slightly more tailored for you. Nonetheless, the community at Oregon Grappling Arts is just absolutely beautiful. I recommend all women and men come to this school. So blessed to have met Hannah and Eddie Osss 🤙🏽
For people brand new to BJJ: The people who train here are friendly and accepting. The instruction here will help you build a solid framework regardless if your goal is to compete or only for hobby. Eddie and Hannah are actively attentive to everyone's progress and are always available to help you. For people with previous experience: A good mix of belt levels to roll with. No weird rules, or dumb stuff to deal with. The mats are kept clean. Chill environment.
OGA really is a wonderful place to train. Hannah & Eddie are SO knowledgeable, and truly care about each of their students progress! I love the atmosphere they have created at the gym. It shows just how much they love jiujitsu and the students!
We have both our kids (ages 6 & 10) enrolled and they both love it. The coaches are great, and the community is welcoming. The kids are challenged and supported, and are learning discipline and respect while also having a ton of fun.
The BEST place to train jiu jitsu in the Portland area. Unbelievable coaches, amazing students, a great and welcoming community, and a place that will help foster your love for the sport through attentive instruction, helpful encouragement, demonstration & drilling, and a focus on techniques as they evolve in the world of bjj and grappling. You cannot find a better gym for all of these reasons and more.
What an amazing place to train jiu jitsu!! This is such a great gym for kids and adult Brazilian jiu jitsu classes for both gi and no gi. They have advanced, beginner, and even in-between/intermediate programs taught by internationally known coaches. Definitely recommend Oregon Grappling Arts for anyone wanting jiu jitsu or takedown wrestling techniques in the Portland area.
I've been lucky enough to train with Hannah and Eddie for almost a decade now. On top of being incredible teachers, practitioners, and competitors they've built an amazing home for jiu jitsu students at OGA. The community is extremely welcoming, safe, collaborative, and flat out fun... regardless of skill level or the various students' aspirations with BJJ. Cannot recommend OGA more highly. Come train!
OGA has been a great experience for both my kids. The coaches are great with kids, explaining both the techniques as well as safety info. The instruction is helping my kids outside of the gym as well: they're better able to stay calm, grounded, and present during heated moments (tantrums, arguments with friends, etc.).
OGA has totally changed my life. Getting to learn and roll with the lovely, dedicated, humble humans in this gym is the most fun I've ever had. Coaches Hannah and Eddie make all beginners feel welcome and safe, while being able to participate in drills and rounds. I've learned an incredible amount in my time at OGA, and made some awesome friends along the way. Oregon Grappling Arts is the best place for women's BJJ! >^.^
Eddie and Hannah are the Portland area's preeminent black belts; established world-class competitors, and sought-after teachers. Their new gym has a deep talent pool of higher belts, a relaxed atmosphere, and a unique approach to teaching. The gym is producing high-level competitors, bar-none the best women's team on the west coast, and a fun, engaging kid's curriculum. Highly recommended for anyone from beginners to black belts, but especially women looking for a great, supportive training experience, and parents looking for a stimulating sport that will prepare their kids for life challenges. Recently, they added a 3-4 yr old curriculum and our daughter loves it.
As a brand new grappler, and someone new to martial arts in general, I could not have chosen a better gym. Hannah and Eddie are both excellent teachers and have created an environment that is safe and welcoming. I always feel like I'm getting the personal attention needed to make my experience great, and I'm so thankful for all the support I've gotten from them and from other members—it really is a community of great people. If you're at all interested in jiu jitsu or grappling like I was, please, give it a try, and try it at Oregon Grappling Arts. I promise you'll have so much fun.
Dropped in for a fundamentals class while in Portland for a work trip. Hannah and all the folks at Oregon Grappling Arts were super friendly, welcoming and inclusive. Great instruction and plenty of great rolls! I highly recommend visiting this BJJ gym if you’re in the area and looking to train, you will not regret it!
Eddie is great - such a technical instructor. The man is a wealth of knowledge. Definitely train here if you get a chance.
I Eddie is an excellent coach and does a great job of teaching good technique which you can see in how technical the people who go there are. I highly recommend
Hannah and Eddie are great instructors who have cultivated a great space to learn and train in. Awesome gym culture whether you want to be a casual hobbyist or a competitor.
I've known coaches/owner Eddie and Hannah for about 8 years now. When I heard they were opening their own Jiu Jitsu school I was thrilled!!! These coaches are passionate about jiu jitsu and fantastic instructors and just great, kind individuals. Students come and go as you can imagine, but when I visited their facility they not only remembered who I was but received a warm welcome by them and the class! They had both gi and no gi classes going on at the same time so which ever you are interested in, they have you covered!!! if you live in the area and are considering trying Jiu Jitsu for yourself and your children, I highly ... highly ! recommend them.
Not everyone who is good at doing stuff is good at teaching it. Hannah and Eddie are not only accomplished martial artists who are constantly refining techniques for high level competition, but they are also talented teachers and coaches of competitive athletes and hobbyists alike. This is a fantastic training environment, where standards are uncompromisingly high, but students of all levels are met where they are and helped along, with nobody ignored or excluded. The vibe couldn't be less toxic. I'm an older, injury-prone guy, and I feel lucky to experience legit, high-intensity rolls in a setting where I trust my training partners to be safe, because that's the culture. Oh, and my son loved Hannah's and Eddie's superb kids' program, which is no babysitting service, but delivers authentic skills instruction in a fun, supportive environment.
Oregon Grappling Arts is an awesome place to train BJJ! Owners Eddie and Hannah are experienced practitioners/coaches who are heavily invested in their student’s development - and are all around great people.
My two boys (age 9 & 7) have been studying with Hannah and Eddie for about 2 years, and I cannot speak highly enough of the coaching. How they're able to help my highly active boys channel their energy in such a disciplined manner is such a valuable life skill that has carried outside of the gym. I am also so impressed the fact that while we have some students who are performing at the highest competitive levels, the culture of the gym is extremely positive and supportive of new learners, and all the students build each other up. Highly recommended!!!
I’ve trained with Eddie and Hannah for a few years now and will attest to their excellence as jiu jitsu coaches. They truly live and breathe jiu jitsu - but what’s more, they are just as dedicated to their students as they are to their own training; and not just select students but to all. If you want to compete seriously, that’s where they’ll meet you; but equally so if you’re training casually. As such, Oregon Grappling Arts has a welcoming culture where people with a wide array of goals come to get better at jiu jitsu together. I couldn’t recommend this gym more.
Eddie and Hannah give the gym such a welcoming atmosphere. It felt like training at my home gym. The instruction is top notch and applicable to all levels. Bathrooms and showers are clean and private for a great changing room. Visiting here is a must for seeing Portland Jiu-jitsu!
I have been loving coming to the Sunday women’s class the last couple of months. Hannah and Eddie are amazing: attentive, challenging, and supportive. They are incredibly talented and dedicated coaches. The vibe is welcoming and encouraging. Great place to train and make friends 😊
Fantastic training! Eddie and Hannah are both amazing instructors and have built a great team. A welcoming environment with very tough and technical rolls.
Wonderful gym and the instructors are so welcoming and technical!
My little girl has been going to Eddie and Hannah’s classes the last few months and they have been amazing. Their level of attention and care during classes is great to see as a parent. My little one is coached primarily by coach Hannah and she is a great role model for her. She is fun, clear, and a warm demander, everything a coach/teacher needs to be to teach. I’m truly impressed with the experience and the coolest part is watching the real Jiu Jitsu that the kids are doing. It is a lot of fun to watch, highly recommend!
Amazing gi/no-gi BJJ and wrestling gym. What really makes this gym great is the people, everyone is very humble and strong. The two coaches Hannah and Eddie are really smart strong sweet and knowledgeable. Both are always open to questions and helping you learn best. I highly highly highly recommend this gym to someone if Brazilian jui jitsu and wrestling is what you want to learn and improve.
Super responsive when I reached out about trying a class! The classes I’ve joined have had ample time for drilling and it’s been awesome to see how many people choose to stay and roll afterward. this gym balances safety and intensity, and they have a great presence in female jiu jitsu
Eddie and Hannah are incredible instructors and could not recommend highly enough to people to train, beginners or long time practitioners.
Dropped in visiting family, long trip from Florida. Eddie and Hannah were very welcoming to me coming in. Great structure to class; technique, drill and live rolls. I was able to get plenty of rolls in, good people and competitive crew. Definitely my drop in place for when I come back. Thank you for having me in!
Hannah and Eddie are awesome. Amazing instruction with high level of detail. Observant and great coaching when rolling with others. Thankful I get to train there. Plus lots of other great people in the room to ask questions to that are always welcoming in sharing information.
Fantastic place to train with a strong community. Hannah and Eddie are both awesome- the women's team is probably one of the best in Oregon and super fun to be a part of.
OGA is a great gym. Hannah and Eddie are great, empathetic instructors. They're pretty great humans overall as well. Our large, friendly and welcoming women's team should be viewed as a result of the safe, healthy culture that the owners continuously work hard to foster and maintain. They'll even drain your ear for you when you get cauliflower ear, which everyone knows of course is a great value add.
Hannah and Eddie are phenomenal coaches and some of the kindest people I have met. They have cultivated an excellent culture and make each class something to look forward to.
The coaches here are the best! Eddie and Hannah are fantastic with the kids and teach top notch Jiu Jitsu. I wouldn’t send my kids anywhere else. They are both well decorated practitioners but are very humble and grateful people. They teach Jiu Jitsu in a way where anyone and everyone can learn…no matter how long you have been training. There is such a wonderful community there and I can’t wait to continue to watch it grow.
Eddie, Hannah, and the entire OGA team are really welcoming and I'm so pumped that I decided to train here. I was looking for a gym after moving that had teachers with demonstrated performance in jiu jitsu (both Eddie and Hanah have a long list of accoloades), strong attention to detail, and a team that was open & welcoming. My time at OGA has been awesome and I can't wait to get my kids on the mats too.
Hannah and Eddie are fantastic coaches, with a comprehensive understanding of jiu jitsu that has allowed them to attain competitive success on some of the biggest stages in jiu jitsu competition. They are able to articulate and apply these concepts in their instruction, making them some of the most knowledgeable jiu jitsu instructors I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. Additionally, they are kind and compassionate people who genuinely care about their students and seek to create a comfortable, safe environment for those who train with them. I cannot recommend OGA highly enough.
My family & I have had the fortunate experience of training for a while under Hannah & Eddie in the Kid’s, Women’s, and Adult classes. The instruction has been top notch in all three areas; they teach strong fundamentals as well as cutting edge techniques in a caring & safe training environment. They are a formidable team with their combined expertise: Hannah is the best kid’s & women’s instructor we’ve encountered, and Eddie has extensive wrestling experience & knowledge of the Gi. Not only do they have high level competition experience & credentials, but are Jiu Jitsu nerds & good people. We couldn’t ask for more.
I LOVE Oregon Grappling Arts! Come train here! The culture is great, everyone respects modulating intensity. Hannah leads an amazing women's team, it has made a big difference in my skills AND I have so much fun with them. Eddie is great at coaching me through a roll in a way I can actually process in the moment. I never feel alone in figuring out how I can improve and they convey it with skill and respect.
The coaches here are top notch and really create a supportive environment where kids can learn real grappling skills. My daughter has been training with Coach Hannah and Coach Eddie for years. She has so much fun, gets her exercise in, and has really improved her grappling. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a nurturing and respectful gym for their children.
Hannah and Eddie are incredibly talented and knowledgeable jiu jitsu practitioners and coaches. They provide world class instruction, which is easily digestible for any age or skill level. The amount of effort they put into coaching and nurturing their students success is unmatched. Additionally, they have created an impressive and highly skilled women’s team that I am so grateful to be a part of. OGA is a welcoming community with the best training and training partners.
I can’t say enough positive things about this place. Eddie and Hannah are two of the most hard working passionate coaches. It can be intimidating to start on your Jiu Jitsu journey, but all of the students at OGA are so warm and welcoming. Eddie and Hannah make safety and inclusivity a priority. They go above and beyond for their students and it really shows in both the youth and the adult (both women and coed) programs. The time invested and care they have for their students competition preparation is unmatched. The current location is so conveniently located in a large, very clean space with plenty of nearby parking, and lots of places to grab a bite after training. There are plenty of both Gi and no Gi classes so you’ll never have to compromise. If you have been interested in starting Jiu Jitsu this is your sign! Eddie and Hannah have changed my life and I guarantee they will do the same for you!
I am fortunate to have been able to train under Hannah and Eddie for nearly four years. They are incredible practitioners, competitors, and coaches of the sport of jiu jitsu. No matter what your goals are, Hannah and Eddie will support you and help you achieve them — even if your goals are just to train recreationally and enjoy the sport! The strong presence of other women who train at OGA is exceptional — Hannah has created something truly special in attracting and nurturing a stellar group of female jiu jitsu practitioners. There is no where else I’d rather train than with Hannah, Eddie, and the other students at OGA.
Hannah and Eddie are such excellent teachers and are amazing at what they do!
If you’re looking for the best gym in Portland this is it hands down. True world class instruction whether you’re looking to compete or just getting into grappling. Their attention to detail and knowledge of the sport is unmatched. Hannah and Eddie are the best.
Hannah and Eddie are genuinely some of the most talented teachers I have ever learned from. They provide a warm and welcoming environment to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu regardless of your skill level. There is a strong presence of women at this gym, which I also deeply appreciate.
OGA is among the top Jiu Jitsu schools. Hannah and Eddie are spectacular (monster) competitors....lots of proof on youtube. Even better is the teaching; to the point, focused, clear and concise. It is refreshing to come to class and start learning technique right off the bat....that is the warmup; very efficient. The amount of techniques presented are just the right amount and not overwhelming excellent for better understanding and retention. When you are performing the techniques both instructors are paying close attention to all students and give lots of helpful feedback. Right after technique practice there is plenty of positional sparring to pressure test what you have learned...since time was not wasted in the beginning with "warmups". And because they are great coaches by nature, you get tips as you live roll/spar after the positional sparring. This the kind of environment I look for in learning grappling. My highest recommendation. Thank you OGA!
"Hannah and Eddie at Oregon grappling arts are great!!!! Not only are they accomplished jujitsu practitioners, they are also passionate and talented coaches. OGA has major community vibes and their youth and women's program are hidden gems in Portland.
If you enjoy coaches who not only have competed themselves at high levels but also study and understand modern jiu-jitsu as well as care about your own development as an athlete then you should train here. Basically if you're reading this, come train.
Hannah is amazing at managing a room of kids. Focused, tough, caring and tuned in.
OGA is a great place to train. Hannah and Eddie are top notch instructors and everyone here are great training partners. The level of personalized instruction during sparring has been great for my jiu-jitsu development and really sets the gym apart.
Oregon Grappling Arts is an amazing place to build skills, be a part of a community, and have fun! The teachers are expert practitioners and adept instructors. From the kid classes to the adult teams the skills and confidence built on the mats are enduring and invaluable. If you even have an inkling of curiosity, try it out. I’m sure you will find the incredible experience my family and I found.
