Been here since the inception. Have witnessed the progressive growth of the academy on all fronts. Very friendly and knowledgeable Professors and Instructors. The kids BJJ and Muay Thai classes are great as are the adult classes. The facility is clean. White Gi’s are mandatory. You can purchase all of your training needs at the academy or order online. They offer LEO discounts. There’s plenty of parking, too. There’s a run club that meets up on Saturday mornings at 0800. The bathrooms have showers and there’s a changing room. All and all it’s a great family friendly academy.
Posted 1 year agoI have always wanted to learned martial art since I was a kid, but never had the opportunity until now. BJJ is the thing. It amazing how you learn different techniques, how to move your body during every class and all the coaches are amazing. I have lost 20 since joining this gym, thanks to the conditioning the coaches put us through during every classes. I would recommend this gym to anyone.

Great Gym. My son has been training for a few months and his confidence has improved tremendously. I’ve been interested in training Martial Arts for a few years now but felt a bit intimidated by the sport, however, all the coaches here are kind, pleasant and skilled and I have now joined as well. Excited for this new beginning.
I LOVE this gym! I've been trying to get better at being more active and working out, and decided signing up for a sport would be the best option. I tried Akido and Kempo and neither were for me. I started to think fighting wouldn't be my interest, until I found One Way. I signed up for Muay Thai and have been having the time of my life! The staff is amazing, the people who go are fun, and you really get to feel powerful and strong! I highly recommend it 🙌🏾
I came to this academy a month ago for a free trial, my son accompanied me that day, what caught my attention was how they treated my son, it's as if they had known him all their lives and so did my son!!! From that moment I knew I was in the right place...I recommend this academy, the coaches, the staff, the place, the vibe... everything is great here!!!
I'm 40 years old with no background in martial arts. I signed up for Muay Thai and have been coming to this gym for just over 2 months now and I love it. A genuine community with a group of people from all walks of life. The variety of training available is wider than most in the most northern tip of Alexandria. The coaches are all professional and some even have MMA or boxing records. The affordability range is actually much more impressive than I anticipated and you can discuss family or discounted rates on site based on your profession. This location is family oriented, clean, and welcoming. I highly recommend that you visit the location in person, sign up for a free one day trial, and sign up!
One Way is an immaculate, welcoming gym environment with a wide variety of classes and a stacked staff of instructors! They are helpful and supportive or new students but also challenge you to push yourself to exceed personal limits. Their professionalism and the mindful atmosphere at One Way is incomparable to other gyms. Plus they are SUPER family friendly- often the owners have their babies and kids at the gym! This place has been an absolute amazing experience. I liked the free trial, so I signed up. I want to join this place forever. Anyone who wants to learn new skills or is a total beginner, this place is good for them. Even if you have experience and knowledge it’s amazing for you too.
If I could write an essay about all the positives about this gym I would…but I won’t so I’ll summarize. (BJJ POV) Coaches: Mahamed, Patrick, and Renée…knowledgeable, personable, and approachable. As soon as walked in they welcome you with open arms and you could genuinely tell they were happy to have you. Students: From my perspective, at all belt ranks everyone has been super friendly and helpful. Everyone was super welcoming to me upon my first few classes Facility: top tier…you can run a marathon with how much mat space is available. Nice little lounge area and locker room with a shower. Variety: Even if BJJ is not your thing, you have the options to Box, wrestle, or kicking boxing/muay Thai. Overall for the amount you will be spending for a membership here (that comes with a Gi btw) it’s simply unmatched. Try out a free class the staff is more than happy to welcome new student 💪🏾.

Honestly joining this gym was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. After finishing my wrestling career I felt like I was missing a part of me. After hearing about one way through my brother who’s the wrestling coach here. I signed up for the free trial. The free trial was a very fun experience and I ended up learning so much. The atmosphere here is fantastic. “Everyone is very welcoming. Anyone with any level of experience is welcomed in with open arms. The quality of coaching from the entire staff is very high level. I’ve been coming into this gym for several months and the results have shown through competition. I’ve made so many friends here that I hang out with outside the gym. If you are worried about getting hurt don’t be. Safety is a high priority here. You’ll be looked out for and taken care of. Highly recommend coming in for the free trial if you are considering it.
Mahamed is a black belt World Champion and an even better person. I can’t think of a better place to learn martial arts. Mahamed, Jansey, and Patrick are some of the kindest people in the martial arts community. Highly recommended!

I absolutely fell in love with this gym after my first BJJ trial class and decided that this is the gym I wanted to build my martial arts journey in. With the wide variety of classes and times, it makes going to the gym flexible. I found myself doing all the sports and the timing allows me to discover and try everything. Not only are the professors/coaches amazing and extremely knowledgeable, they build friendly relationships with the students that make the environment comfortable and fun. I enjoy coming here and highly recommend this gym for athletes of all levels!

I joined last month and so far I’ve had an amazing experience. I’ve trained in other Martial Arts but never Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. From the trial session I could tell this was a place for high level training and good atmosphere. Everyone has a great attitude as well. I plan to also train in Muay Thai and other training they offer. I’ve trained in many other places as before and One Way Martial Arts is legit. I look forward to going back every week.

By far one of, if not the best, martial arts gyms in the DMV. - Fantastic clean facilities (including bathrooms with showers) - Clearly very dedicated coaching staff that are also competition black belts - Great variety of class schedule (classes every day) and sports (Muay Thai, wrestling, BJJ, etc). It really doesn’t get better than this gym, if you’re new and looking for a welcoming, safe, and worthwhile environment I would recommend One Way.

I've been to a lot of places in NoVa but none compare to the training I did here (Muai Thai/kickboxing). Definitely a solid place to train. Only reason I stopped is because I moved out of the area.

This is my fourth BJJ school and by far the best!! This is the only school in the DMV where you will find world-class, elite, BJJ instructors as well as elite level Boxing and Muay Thai instructors. I highly recommend One Way Martial arts for anyone looking to start their martial arts journey, get in better physical shape, or continue to improve their martial arts skills. In any of the modalities offered One Way Martial arts is by far the best martial arts school in the area. In addition, their kids program is better than any I have ever seen. Coaches are doing a phenomenal job working with kids across the spectrum capabilities and experience. One Way, second to none!

I want to start by saying that One Way Martial Arts has truly changed my life, both mentally and physically. I have immense gratitude for this place. Before discovering this gym, I was going through a challenging period. I struggled with confidence, battled with weight, and felt lost. I am genuinely blessed to be a part of this gym. I consider Aly, Patrick, and Jansey like family to me. They go above and beyond for their students. You couldn't find better mentors; these guys are truly elite as they come. I was initially nervous to train, but I quickly realized how mistaken I was; everyone in this gym respects each other deeply, regardless of experience level. When I had to freez my membership for an injury they made it super easy and convenient to freez my membership, all I had to do was email them.

I have tried probably every martial arts gym in the dmv since 2018 and this is by the far the best one. You are being trained by the very best, no doubt. The level of focus on technique and strength training is unmatched. I used train in Muay Thai for 3 years over 6 years ago in Richmond, Va. When I moved back to the area in 2016 I was on the hunt for a good gym to practice at and I tried every single one and I just didn’t feel that I got the level of professionalism and training that one way gives. The coaches are all pro fighters and really give each student individual feedback on training and technique. You really feel like you are learning the craft and art. This gym is a blessing and I am so glad it was opened up.

By far the best gym I been to in the DMV. I’ve tried a lot of other gyms for boxing/Bjj and there is a noticeable difference when it comes to the coaching and the non egotistical attitude. The 2 trainers are world class for BJJ as well as the world class training in Kickboxing. To add to all the the hospitality given by the gym is incomparable, if felt like family since day one and I can honestly say this is my home away from home. One Way Martial Arts is family

Can’t say enough good things about this gym! I was very intimated to try Jiu Jitsu at 31 and not being in very good shape. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. All the coaches are super patient and helpful at all times, and the whole community is fantastic. There is a treasure chest of combat sports knowledge here and I’m grateful for having something new to look forward to throughout the week outside of work and adulting. After less than 3 months of training and missing 2 weeks due to being sick, training at One Way has already helped me lose weight and has been so great for my mental health. Can’t recommend this place and these people enough!

I knew nothing about BJJ until I walked into the trial class 6 weeks ago. It has been such a fun and rewarding experience. I appreciate the way the coaches take the time to ensure all students fully grasp techniques before moving on and how welcoming other athletes and staff have been to me and my family. My only regret is I didn't find them sooner.

BLUF: Super friendly atmosphere with world class instruction. Clean and Modern facility. I’ve been training Jiu-Jitsu for 6 years and this is by far the best Academy I’ve ever had the privilege of being a part of (member since July 2023). One Way Martial Arts has World-Champion class instruction without any toxic atmospheres, machismo, or intimidating cultural norms you might find at other high level training facilities. Patrick and Mahammed truly care about the One Way Family (members). Going out of their way regardless of the belt rank, age, etc. Great amounts of effort go into the development of all members; seeing a world champion cornering a white belt in a local tournament says a lot about your values. I’ve seen similar amounts of effort put into the Muay Thai, Wrestling, Kids BJJ, and Yoga classes, but my main experience there has been in Jiu Jitsu.
Nearly 40 washed up athlete, played w/ the pros etc... this is definitely the place for you to go replace all the sports you used to play and challenge yourself both mentally and physically. Most importantly to be around good people and extremely rare talented coaching. A+

Came to One Way with no martial arts experience whatsoever and have been here since for about 4 months now and have loved every class and minute of my training. It has helped me so much mentally and physically. it has helped me maintain a more positive attitude in my everyday life, it has given me more confidence, i have met friends and coaches and training partners who motivate and inspire me to stay disciplined and keep learning everyday. the team really does feel like a family and everyone wants to help each other grow and be better. I have never been made to feel bad or discouraged from staying committed even when i had literally no clue what i was doing. The facility itself is very clean and equipped with everything you could ask for from training bags and dummies to pads and gloves and jump ropes, etc. I really can’t recommend this place and team enough and i genuinely love and appreciate every opportunity i get to spend here. First, I would like to say I'm so proud and happy for my Brazilian brothers (*Mahamed, Patrick and Jansey) who have sacrificed so much to be here and to be living the American Dream. I've been training BJJ for over 12yrs... visited and trained at many schools for seminars, etc in the USA. This school is on another level with their World-class instructors. Together they share their years of experience and knowledge they received from some of the best martial art instructors in the world. The teachings they share have been battle tested in the field and in World-class/High level competition across the globe. I can't say enough about this school...we have a great group of students who are respectful and eager to learn from all age groups and backgrounds. The school has more classes to attend than majority of the schools in the DMV area. Some of the classes include BJJ, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Judo and more. It seems they are adding more classes to the schedule weekly/monthly. They have so much to offer you would think they are never closed except Sundays. If I didn't know any better I would think the instructors eat, sleep, train and live at this school. A couple added bonus that they offer is showers, which I haven't seen in any martial schools in the DMV that I have visited. Also the school location is Metro accessible with the Van Dorn Metro being practically across the street. You can't beat that for the convenience of training. If that's not enough and you want to train more there is the DMV gym behind the school with state of the art equipment owned and operated by a fellow Veteran. I've been taking Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai classes at One Way for the past few months, and it's been an incredible experience! Professors Mahamed and Patrick and Coach Jansey, on top of being world class competitors, are wonderful teachers and very passionate about martial arts. The gym itself is also fantastic - very spacious and all new equipment. They have classes nearly every day and throughout each day so that you'll always have time to train. See you on the mats!
Joining this gym felt like deja vu, there were so many replica experiences to my first gym that made me feel immediately at home and in a familiar place. The instructors are kind, patient, and encouraging (my favorite instructor is Mahamed). Overall, I think this is a wonderful place to build, or continue, your BJJ education, and I encourage anyone and everyone to try it out for yourself.

Amazing classes and accommodating for all body types. Everyone is so knowledgeable and can alter exercises for any fitness level. They have high level practitioners who visit during open mat as well. Lots of people to learn from. This is a great location and close to everything.

It’s a very rare opportunity to truly learn from someone that has reached the highest level of jiu jitsu. I just had a great experience here at One Way BJJ. It felt welcoming and the both BJJ instructors (Mahamed and Patrick) were patient, attentive, and very cheerful. I especially loved their perspectives on what techniques have an increased likelihood of working and the fine tuning of some basic novice techniques to be performed at a world championship level. It was definitely some world class instructions from high level practitioners of the art. Highly recommended!
I loved the environment, but the new uniform rule is not my thing. So get ready so throw away your current gear. Even though it starts months from now, I can't bring myself to support a change like this.
Unfortunately not professional…not friendly and expensive… many other places to do the martial arts cheaper and professional.. never going back to this place again
