Being female I was looking for a safe place to learn Jiu Jitsu with my friend. When we came we were never made to feel awkward or unwelcome. Instead the owner welcomed us and was very kind. When we were there he gave us a trial period to see if we would enjoy it. They have a very flexible schedule for adults during the weekday there are three times they have classes, which would work for anyone’s schedule. Also classes on Saturday. If you don’t have a gi they will let you borrow one if it fits your size. The price per month is very affordable and you get unlimited jiu jitsu lessons in the month with access to a small gym. I will definitely come back here when not traveling.

So, I’ve been here for quite a while, but I stopped going due to some personal issues. Now, very simple. This place is amazing. It’s a pretty huge adult class, but the best part. Is that even tho there’s a lot of people, the professor pays attention to every single student. You don’t feel like outcast. Whoever is instructing. Makes sure that everyone is learning the techniques. There’s no little group cliques here or there, but compared to places I’ve been at here in Jax. As soon as you walk in, you feel so welcomed. I will be going back again, ASAP.

From out of town, and needed a place to train, the instructor Bill welcomed me with open arms. Attending the Brazilian jiu-jitsu class led by bill, who embodies the perfect blend of informativeness, attentiveness, and patience was an absolute delight. Throughout the session, the instructor demonstrated a deep understanding of the techniques, providing clear and detailed explanations that were easily grasped by students of all levels. His attentive nature ensured that each participant received personalized feedback and guidance, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. I dropped in this past Monday. There was a kids class going and Bill(the instructor) was leading class. After a few mins, he came out to greet me and welcome me in. A couple students were there and everyone was very welcoming. The facility was clean and well maintained. Mats were in excellent condition. They have a fair sized mat. However it is oddly narrow and long. There’s plenty of room, it just feels a little odd when you first walk in. The room is split down the middle with a warm up side to stretch and workout with weights, bags, etc. bathrooms in the back were clean and well kept. There’s plenty of space for people to sit on the side and watch and a fair sized lobby separate of the training area. The students were nice and friendly. They were good rolls. Most of the people I trained with were my age, 30-50, and gave a good, hard, technical roll. No one was really spastic or felt dangerous to roll with. The best thing about it was after the rolls, I did not feel like I got ran over by an angry blue belt. I got a good solid workout from these guys. The instruction was on point. There are few guys this technical that can teach it that well. Definitely felt like the instruction was top notch. Simple, clear and concise direction of class. He taught 4 techniques from closed guard. All of them tied in to one another and made sense in the sequence. Well thought out instruction. I will be going back. I’m not a competitor. So I don’t know how they match up competitively, but they have quite a few competitor medals hanging up. So take that as you will. Had an amazing time at Old School BJJ! Professor Perez is awesome! He breaks down everything so it’s super easy to understand, especially for beginners. He’s great at giving one-on-one tips, which I really appreciate. The place itself is spacious and clean, perfect for drilling and rolling safely. It’s also super welcoming for families, which is pretty cool. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been at it for a while, you’ll fit right in. Definitely a top spot for anyone into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!

Family. That is definitely the place everything begins and ends at Old School. I had no martial arts background when I first brought my middle son to our first class 6 months ago, and honestly didn’t know what to expect. A friend of mine had started with his son and finally talked me into trying it. I can’t thank him enough. Now all 7 of my kids train with us, and my wife trains in boxing at the gym. From the beginning, we were welcomed, encouraged, taught, and pushed. I can’t recommend Professor Bill high enough. Whether you have decades of BJJ experience, or are looking for a way to develop physically and mentally, Old School is the place for you!

With what's happening in this crazy world, fathers need to provide a way for their children to protect themselves from physical threat. The discipline needed is what this place teaches.
