If you are looking to get into shape, make friends, learn how to defend yourself, or just pick up a new hobby then you should definitely check out Ohio Combat Sports Academy. I had trained jiu jitsu for a couple of years and when I was moving to Columbus I wanted to keep it going. I found this gym and I e-mailed the owner. He invited me out to a class and I instantly decided it was the place for me. First, the facility is huge and very clean. It’s a very comfortable atmosphere. Everyone makes you feel welcomed and you quickly understand it’s a safe family atmosphere. There are multiple families that train here and everyone helps each other get better. There are people like myself that just like burning calories and learning some self defense but there are also members that compete in jiu jitsu and MMA matches. It’s a safe, diverse team with many first responders and school teachers as members and instructors. It does not matter what shape you’re in, what your age is, what your background is, or what your goals are. Don’t make the same mistake that I did! I wanted to try jiu jitsu and mma for years but I always talked myself out of it. My first day of training made me realize I wasted years by not just going into a gym and checking it out in person. If you’re interested in learning and becoming a better person then you will find success as a team member here.

I’ve been training here since 2016 and have been practicing martial arts for over 10 years. What has always stood out to me is how much the owner and other teachers care about their students. They become more than instructors, they become friends. OCSA provides a genuine learning environment with highly qualified, experienced instructors and a supportive student base. Dustin is always looking for opportunities to bring in the best instructors from all over the country and internationally to constantly expand the knowledge his students have access to. There really is something for everybody here. My daughter loves the kids Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and boxing classes so much and enjoys the inclusive team atmosphere. I’ve trained a little bit of everything but am particularly fond of the Judo and BJJ programs. It’s an hour’s drive for me but it is absolutely worth it and we train as often as we can.

My 9 year old daughter and I both train at the Ohio Combat Sports Academy and love it. All of the instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. Neither of us had any experience in grappling prior to joining, but we never once felt unwelcome at the gym- every one is great! We’ve been going now for almost two years and have no intentions of going anywhere else to train!

Walked into OCSA over a year ago just looking to get some information for my then 11 year old son. Dustin greated us instantly and talked to my son as if he was already one of his students. Asking him questions and telling us stories of past and present students. He then offered a free week to my son so that he could try it out and see if it was really something he wanted to do, which we jumped right on. After two days my son was hooked and we both decided to sign up! The instruction provided by Dustin and the junior instructors is world class. The atmosphere and other students make you feel like you truly are part of a family. As a veteran, that aspect is extremely important to me. I have and will continue to recommend anyone interested in BJJ, visit Ohio Combat Sports Academy to learn from the best and feel comfortable while doing it!

Great instruction and great team atmosphere. One of the few places that the black belts with stay after and work with you. I felt like a part of the team the first day I walked in, several years ago. Now it's just an extended family. Great for the kids and all the instructors are top notch and go above and beyond. The best part is the entire team is always looking to help each other improve. Highly recommend for kids, adults, and even old guys like me.

I've trained at gyms all over the world including some of the most high profile gyms in Rio de Janeiro and the USA as well. I will say that, of the HUNDREDS of gyms I have trained at, about three of those feel like home from the minute you walk in, The Ohio Combat Sports Academy is one of those gyms. With multiple black belts training and teaching and the welcoming, friendly atmosphere: I would dare to say that anyone would feel comfortable training here. Give it a shot...I think you will love it!

Dustin has never been anything but a professional towards myself and competitors/practitioners from every gy . Very welcoming, open people who are respectful and love to roll. Trained with and competed against his team at his events, and definitely didnt get "cheated by in house refs" as others claim. If you want some of the best instruction you can get in Columbus, check it out.

I started BJJ a few years ago. I have traveled to out of state academy gyms. This gym is fantastic. I really felt at home. Everyone is welcoming. The coach Dustin really cares about the students knowledge. I entered one of his tournaments. It was professionally ran. I also know some of the other affiliates of his school. In Marietta Oh also has a great school. I hope to train again with all of those guys. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I received word of a job opportunity from western PA to Columbus. When I asked my professor for his recommendation to continue by jiu jitsu journey in Columbus, he directed me to Dustin Ware of OCSA. Since the day I walked into OCSA, the school has been next to family. Dustin spent an hour the first time we met talking jiu jitsu and what i was looking for and i had already been training for 18 months. This was a simple transfer yet he still made the effort to know exactly who wanted to train at his school. With that said, there is not a single ego maniac or wannabe tough guy at the school. Everyone only intends to teach their teammates to make them the best they can be on a daily basis. Dustin's BJJ black belt instructors, MMA coach, and boxing coaches have a passion for their discipline that is hard to find. They will stay after class for as long as you need to answer questions or perfect that guard or that ground and pound or that slip. Lastly, Dustin actively pays attention to everyone's progress and observes during live rolling sessions. He knows the status of his students and the work they are putting in. Outstanding school with outstanding people.

Excellent school, top notch instruction! I have been to many martial arts schools throughout my 14 years training, & I have to say that this is one of the nicest gyms I have ever had the pleasure of training at. Large facility that is maintained very well, and everyone in the school is very welcoming. They have classes available everyday of the week ranging from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Grappling, Judo, Kickboxing/boxing, strength and conditioning, all for both children and adults. I currently train at this school and I must say that it has become much more than just a gym that I train it. My teammates are my family and there is a sense of community and friendship at this school that is extended to every person that takes the first steps through that front door. Showed up to the 545 beginner class at 545 like I was instructed. The class had already started. Nobody greeted me after I came in so I sat down and waited. For 45 minutes. After no interaction or even acknowledgement, I got up and left. Still no word from the owner and it's been a week. Terrible experience and incredibly unprofessional. If I was meant to be there earlier than 545, then why not tell me that? I won't be back and I'll make sure to spread the word about my experience.
